Join us on a thrilling adventure as we set out to recreate an iconic Star Wars scene on the stunning Skellig Michael Island. Some say I look like Luke Skywalker (the old one!), and when Melissa told me about this remote island, I couldn't resist the challenge. Little did I know the adventure that awaited us.
We had to overcome unpredictable weather conditions and a treacherous boat ride to reach this isolated island, which is about seven and a half miles out to sea. The boat ride to Skellig Michael was more intense than expected, with rough waves and strong winds. But we made it to this incredible island, known for its dramatic cliffs, unique wildlife, and historic significance.
Our mission was to recreate a scene from "The Force Awakens" that was filmed here. We faced steep climbs, breathtaking drops, and strong gusts of wind in an attempt to capture the perfect shots.
Skellig Michael, an ancient monastic site, was a remarkable place to explore. It's a testament to the determination of the monks who once lived here. We got a glimpse of their daily life, from beehive huts to their gravity toilet.
This unforgettable journey is filled with adventure, stunning landscapes, and a touch of Star Wars magic. Don't forget to watch the video to see if we were successful in our recreation! And if you enjoy it, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe for more exciting adventures. May the Force be with you!

Our driver was in shock and awe that we were able to see Skellig Michael from the Ring of Kerry. We stopped many times for photos because the opportunity to view from the safety of dry land comes once in a blue moon. Winds off the ocean have been intense this week making sightseeing a hit or miss situation. Don’t think I would risk life or limb on the water when the weather was that dicey. The Star Wars production team had to build a set of Skellig Michael nearby on the mainland because the weather gods were so against them while they were trying to film causing huge delays. Gotta give you credit, your no tenderfoot. I’ve been on night tuna fishing excursions that were less dangerous than what you experienced in this video. We love you guys, please stay safe!

As a UNESCO síte, the Skelligs are very sacred. The bird population is very unique and only exists because of the absence of rodents. There were very mixed feelings about it being used as a film location as this, and the ensuant litter, posed a huge risk to its delicate eco balance. All visitors should take great care to bear in this mind if visiting this sacred space.

Good call on getting on the biggest boat available. A friend and I went out to the Skelligs on a boat that had no cover, called the Lady Clare. We were like two drowned rats dripping all over a restaurant we went to after in order to get some hot food into us. I felt sick but thankfully didn't throw up. There was a woman puking into a bucket a few feet away from us. Never again!

Lovely work, Melissa and Larry Skywalker - your videos make me realise how beautiful my own country is and proud to be Irish. It would be hard to pick a dry day for Skellig Michel but ye made the best with what was thrown at you. Isnt it crazy to think how some mad Irish monks in the 6th century thought "hmmm you know where would be a great place to live". I am enjoying watching your journey in Ireland and look forward to seeing the other places you have visited around the world once I get Ireland done. Thanks for a great video and a few laughs along the way.

It's worth remembering the island of Skellig Michael is 7 miles off Ireland in the Atlantic Ocean and is only accessible for a short time during the Summer months each year, even then bad weather (not unusual in Ireland)will close the access to the island. When you do get to the island you're then faced with a somewhat daunting climb, as you saw in the video, to get to the top, strong winds are not unusual, but if you happen to get good weather and the sun shines on you, oh is it worth it. Failing that you could always travel to the North East of the country to Co. Meath and visit the 5000 year old Passage Tomb, Newgrange.

Imagine the monks used to row out to those islands in tiny boats. Apparently their diet was mostly shellfish and seaweed. One can only imagine how hardy you would have to be to survive that environment.

    Hello from Catholic Ireland.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
