“Unlike the Star Wars movies that were shot there, Skellig Michael will never be forgotten”. Gold! As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I doubt that Star Wars as a whole will be forgotten, but I’m already trying to forget the particular Star Wars movies shot on Skellig Michael. Say, where are the beached whale-cows with the blue milk?
"What's this?? It's Geo Perspective out of nowhere with an absolutely brutal potshot at the Star Wars Sequels! I don't care what universe you're from, that's GOTTA hurt."
That's so interesting... The County Wicklow Glendalough monastery was founded by Saint Kevin in the 6th century. A round tower was added at a later date, most likely during the times of the Viking invasion into Ireland. The monastery was destroyed by English troops in 1398 and today is in ruins. Glendalough monastery has become a famous attraction for thousands of visitors each month.
Pray for good weather:) Most stable is in March. There are three villages renting boats. Pre plan. I was lucky to get there third time (in poor weather nobody sails). And we got to slowly circle Little Skellig, with thousands of gulls. Spectacular, serene, blessed place. One of the churches of St. Michael Archangel's Sword. When you climb up there are puffins sitting at the stretch of your hand. Local guides explain what you see. Amazing are these beehive huts. Some 1m wide wall. There are also on the land. It was part of local monastery.
You'd have to plan stay in the general area nearby for a few days as the sea conditions dictate if boats can go over & winds/weather dictate if it's safe to climb
What a wild place to try and live! I'm listening to an audiobook called 'Haven' by Emma Donoghue, a fictionalized account of the settling of Skellig Michael - a brilliant listen, if you can bear it! 😂
And development of music: Gregorian Chants, art. After Protestant Revolution, killing hundreds of thousands Catholics, also artists, craft masters stained glass art was renewed in ...XIX century. Greedy kings, using narcissistic Martin Luder's ideology (he was not about religion only) put Europe in ruin, really dark ages. You are very knowledgeable. It's sheer pleasure to watch and listen. Thank you and God bless you:)
@@GeoPerspective Always fascinating to hear. It's rumoured that Lenin spoke English with an Irish(Dublin) accent too, because of his teacher, but don't take that as an insult! Subscribed.
Nicely researched introduction to these remote islands. A pity, though, to emphasise the 'dark ages' in the title; this terminology is used to denigrate a rich period of European history by those who think nothing happened between ancient Rome and the Renaissance - a blinkered view of history!
Another link between Irish (Gaeilge) and Slav languages connects 'sláinte' with 'слон'. Years ago, my Serbian friend pointed out that when we (in Ireland) drink to good health, it sounds like we're raising a glass to 'little elephant' to someone from former Yugoslavia!

Enjoyed your video. I visited the Island a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the sea was not calm enough for us to land. It was still a great experience.

This whole video was made for an insult 🌶️🌶️
? Film crew hurt this place. A piece of rock fell off because they were fixing their there gear.
Much of Star Wars will live long in our memories. My blu-ray copy “The Last Jedi” will live long on the shelf of a local thrift store.

And now they're dumping scores of economic migrants in the hotels near it.
& now they're planting fake refugees there so they can destroy it. 😔🙄
Great video, love the patreon map.
That looks absolutely brilliant. Would like to visit one day! Cheers from Holland.

So I watched the video about Latvia, and I was immediately curious - how does this Latvian guy have such an Irish accent?!
From my school teachers :D

Can anyone tell me the significance of the sword of St Michael?,that is the straight line of monestaries from Skellig to the holy land
The monks shown at 6:12 have got a lot of fingers! Btw many of the sketches in this video are not of Irish origin.

Star wars mega roasted at the end, i know i know it was garbage and they deserve it.

Thanks for watching till the end
@@GeoPerspective Thanks for making it worth watching to the end.
@@GeoPerspective Absolutely, very informative. Thank you:)
Perhaps, because they were fixing their gear to the rocks and later one piece fell off. They did not respect this place. Unholly Hollywood!
Скала (skala) is cliff in Slav languages
Skelik is deminutive form
