I've lived in Saudi Arabia for 20 years..and I've got an archeology background. For years I've been yelling , ""Stop the car and let me take photos! This has to be something archeological!" I'm so happy to finally see this!! They are absolutely everywhere in the northwest of the country.. It's been obvious to people living here for a very very looooong time.... Then the western archeologists arrive like heroic Columbus "discovering" America.
Don't blame western academics for all the ills of the world. I'm not from that mind set
but rather of eastern philosophical back ground. I believe what has been stalling any
academic developments in SA and many Islamic countries is exactly that. Islam.
They won't allow anything to have existed before Islam and rather destroy any evidence of it. That mind set didn't allow academics from exploring.

My coworker and I drove from Riyadh in Nov 2020 to Al Ula. We are nurses from the states working here. We hired tour guides which I highly recommend. It was an incredible experience I will forever cherish.

If that was to your liking, then come to Jordan where you will see more Nabatean, Crusader, Roman, Greco and Islamic archaelogical sites than you could possibly have time for.

what's interesting to me is that the Bedouin locals knew the Mustatil predated the Nabateian structures, and their chief even said it was relayed to him by his ancestors that these are from the stone age. Very impressive if they knew that based on oral tradition alone.

they have always been stone worshipers, the kaaba, the obelisk there...I think that most of costumes and uses of islam were already existing, they just put a new name to it, and redacted certain idea... and mohammed impossed his version of his tribe to the rest, versions that wouldn´t vary that much in most of the cases, I think that is makes it possible, in some cases, the rapid explosion and expansion of some empires of the past, in a way most of the job was done, just that one strong ruler managed to "put the sh..t together".

This is one of the only things that make me sorry I'm getting old. They have found so much in the last 30 yrs. or so that it completly changes everything we were taught in school! They don't even have time to write a book on ancient history any more. I've learned more in the last 5 years than most of my life.

The history of al ula is also told in the quran saying "those who lived in alula were granted with mighty strength" They built all of the houses temples and statues with their bare hands.

While ancient Arabia tribes and their amazing buildings and carvings were mentioned repeatedly in Quran, there is no mention of Alula people under this specific name so this phrase doesn't exists in the Quran.

@@Allinda. It doesnt mention Al-Ula by name but it describes the people of Prophet Saleh called Thamud (which the name for one of sites Mada’in Saleh derived from) who lived there. The people of Thamud were much stronger than the people of Prophet Hud (Eber in the Bible) called the people of 'Aad who came before them, strong enough to carve and build such enormous homes and palaces. They are described in Surah Al-A'raf (Chapter 7) Verses 65-78. This verse however describes the ancient carved homes and palaces we've so far discovered in Al-Ula.
"Remember when He made you successors after ’Âad (referring to the people of Thamud) and established you in the land-˹and˺ *you built palaces on its plains and carved homes into mountains.* So remember Allah’s favours, and do not go about spreading corruption in the land.” [7:74]

wow.. old town is fascinating! it's construction reminds me of some of the first large human settlements such as Çatalhöyük, Aşıklı Höyük, and other truly ancient early human villages going back 12,000+ years... I feel like we could learn a few things from it.

Many people are looking for “steps to salvation.” People like the idea of an instruction manual with five steps that, if followed, will result in salvation. An example of this is Islam with its Five Pillars. According to Islam, if the Five Pillars are obeyed, salvation will be granted. Because the idea of a step-by-step process to salvation is appealing, many in the Christian community make the mistake of presenting salvation as a result of a step-by-step process. Roman Catholicism has seven sacraments. Various Christian denominations add baptism, public confession, turning from sin, speaking in tongues, etc., as steps to salvation. But the Bible only presents one step to salvation. When the Philippian jailer asked Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” Paul responded, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:30-31).
Faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior is the only “step” to salvation. The message of the Bible is abundantly clear. We have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23). Because of our sin, we deserve to be eternally separated from God (Romans 6:23). Because of His love for us (John 3:16), God took on human form and died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). God promises forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven to all who receive, by grace through faith, Jesus Christ as Savior (John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; Acts 16:31).
Salvation is not about certain steps we must follow to earn salvation. Yes, Christians should be baptized. Yes, Christians should publicly confess Christ as Savior. Yes, Christians should turn from sin. Yes, Christians should commit their lives to obeying God. However, these are not steps to salvation. They are results of salvation. Because of our sin, we cannot in any sense earn salvation. We could follow 1000 steps, and it would not be enough. That is why Jesus had to die in our place. We are absolutely incapable of paying our sin debt to God or cleansing ourselves from sin. Only God could accomplish our salvation, and so He did. God Himself completed the “steps” and thereby offers salvation to anyone who will receive it from Him.
Salvation and forgiveness of sins is not about following steps. It is about receiving Christ as Savior and recognizing that He has done all of the work for us. God requires one step of us-receiving Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin and fully trusting in Him alone as the way of salvation. That is what distinguishes the Christian faith from all other world religions, each of which has a list of steps that must be followed in order for salvation to be received. The Christian faith recognizes that God has already completed the steps and simply calls on the repentant to receive Him in faith.

Thank goodness I have these fascinating documentaries as I will never see these things in person.
I’m not trained, only an infinitely curious, lifetime observer of archeology and anthropology. However my very first thought when they discovered the bones was a processing center created to preserve (smoke) meats. A place where any (nomadic?) tribe/family group could bring their animals. This may have even been during a particular season or time of year, creating a great gathering place for large groups to interact, trade and possibly intermarry among other activities. Although the actual experts there have probably considered this & dismissed it or it would have been mentioned.
I think youre heading in the right direction. I think that some of the site are astrological. And the reference to the egyptians is no mistake. They could have been the early egyptians practicing their art. So the sites could be a place where they made offerings to the gods or led the way to the heavens while travelling to the after life.
They are a people mentioned in the Noble Qur’an, God sent to them a prophet, and they disobeyed the Prophet, so God removed them from the earth, and their land was the abode of torment. And this is one of the signs of God Almighty

In a manner, but the systement , "we are interested in the past" isn't true. They are interested in information. Which is different. They seek something other than what they are telling you. For instance, they seek a connection to their alien race that they call the "architects". But according to history even, we have sumerians and those who built the great Pyramids which they left no signature. Egyptians left their language, but the original builders didn't.
This places them before historically recorded history. Because all historical evidences were wiped away, in a post-apocalyptic event. It is called the Flood. Recorded by the Same dynasty that created the silk road, recorded an event that only 8 people left a boat and inhabited the earth after this worldwide Flood event. If 10000 years is their starting point, then it wasn't an alien race, but human beings that lived a few millennium on this earth before the Chinese wrote about that Flood.

@@EEA75 - Interesting, although half of the video is you traveling to the place. I'd say (educated guess) that it's a massive ancient cemetery: each mound a tomb, each precint maybe a family burial/ceremonial plot, the open one a communal area. The (relatively) fertile lands are downhill, right?
@@LuisAldamiz well this was a super difficult area to get to so the journey there is part of the experience. Although I do have a video on just the drone shots of the area. Appreciate you watching the video and commenting. Down below the area is dry also, desert area...but at one point in time it definitely looks to have had a river or rivers down below and probably very fertile wet land. You make a very good observation about it being a cemetery. Why do you think the areas are not any specific shape like a perfect circle or triangle like similar ancient gravesites found in Saudi Arabia?
@@EEA75 - Not a real criticism, my apologies, just grumpy old me wanting to get to the "real deal". I understand that it's an adventure rather than an archaeology channel and that's fair enough.
There was one or two shots where you captured that downhill landscape but very briefly. Not enough for me to evaluate but seems like broken by ancient rivers, the kind of which existed in Arabia (and the Sahara) in the "pluvial" periods. I'd conjecture that the people lived downhill and that was probably their cemetery. Hopefully your video will attract someone with academic influence into properly excavating those mysterious mounds.

There is no telling what could be uncovered under the thousands of sand hills throughout the deserts around Taif, Jeddah, and other cities. The sand storms cover any structures in the desert. So there is no telling what is under all that sand
They won't find Jimmy Hoffa.

Interesting and informative documentary. I’m Saudi and when I take a plane and see these structures, I always wonder who built it and for what purpose because these are scattered throughout Arabian peninsula. At some point, I know it’s for some ancient rituals due to the fact these are hard to be distinguished unless you are some feet above the land but I wouldn’t imagine these are soo old like 7000 years old. My favourite structures are the triangle with circle on its head,I think these deserve to be studied. Arabian peninsula must be archaeologically discovered since it’s one of the first places that ancient human migration started out of African continent and Arabia was definitely different from what it is today in term of weather and terrains.
There is more than what we have been told about our history. Advanced techniques way older than actual history. Similar techniques everywhere around the world that we cannot explain, America, Europe, Asia, etc.

Hey Michael, there is nothing like Muslim or non-Muslim to be allowed to travel to SA. There are only two locations which are limited for Muslims and that is from religious perspective since they are sacred places and non-Muslim are forbidden to be there. Also, Saudi Arabia has launched new policy for international tourists from almost 50 countries (mostly non-Muslim majority countries as some people like to call it) and it will take you less than an hour to have it without any invitation ( check visitsaudi.com). Unfortunately, these eVISAs are suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions recently. You are more than welcome to visit the country when the life get normal again.

Mustatil looked like a cattle enclosure used to keep them safe at night from predators and probably had wood or straw materials covering them from the sun. Modern cattle herders in East Africa use the same technique. The circular structures could've been used to hold feed or water for the animals.
