      Can we honestly expect caucasian "scientists" to render a fair and just interpretation of a non-white civilization? I think not! Knowledge of the world is already in big enough shambles, and will be engulfed in an even bigger one as long as caucasian people continue to "discover" and present THEIR insights to the rest of the non-white world.

      I thought it you said was a city of tents and that the Persians were nomads? Also, wouldn’t they have destroyed it because it was the place where those that were conquered by Persia had to go and lie on their faces and pay homage in the form of taxes, it represented their subjugation in the form of architecture. Oppressed people often destroy those that oppress them or the symbols of those that oppress them and Persepolis would clearly have been the biggest symbol of their oppression.

    I enjoyed this documentary. I am from the United States, but I self-educated myself in a love of ancient history, which included an interest in the Persians. I recently saw a travelog on RUclips that showed a bit of Iran. In truth, it is a beautiful country. It is strange how politics and religion creates enemies. I guess all civilizations have their high points and their falls.. (maybe multiple times). I suppose that my country will do the same. What endures really is the beauty of the people, the land, the cultural highlights that they give to the World. It seems strange to me that Iran is such an enemy here currently or China or Russia or Cuba. Oh well, time will pass. Our relationships and values will change. I don't know that I ever expect total World peace-understanding;; but I think some underappreciated Cultures will be recognized over time for their nobility, creativity, and contribution to Humanity. I think we all count, but we have to learn to live together.

    That morning I had the privilege, on my 3rd visit to Persepolis, to be totally alone on the entire site. I walked through the ruins of ancient vestibules and corridors, kitchen and library and paid homage to the cliff carved tombs of the great Persian kings, including that of Cyrus the Great, unifier of the Pars tribes, in Pasargades.
    Only a solitary visit to the towers of silence of Yazd at sunset in 1998 possibly managed to match the emotions I felt at Persepolis. So many fond memories that I’ll have to revive with another trip together with my wife...

Iran has constantly reinvented itself like any other culture, no Iranian would ever dispose of Hafez , Ebne Sina , Ferdosi, Zakaria, Saadi… they were all products of the Islamic era … we must expand our understanding of historical events and their impact in multi dimensional growth of our cultures …giving up the victim mentality and erasing biases can give us a better perspective in thriving within our vast historical repertoire .

However, there area lot of similarities with Sumerian civilization in Mesopotamia (bassorelieves look almost identical with Sumerian ones). This makes me think that each civilization has copied or mimicked from earlier one. Like Greeks got from Egyptians, Romans got from Greeks, etc. Still, ancient civilizations amaze people in modern times.

    I always find it strange some of these places were abandoned for thousands of years. No other people ever came alone and took them over .

    I was there in 2000, and I vividly remember how absolutely overwhelmed I was when I saw it in reality and strolled along the magnificent panels like in a dream. As an archaeologist, I have seen many great places of the ancient world, but for me, this was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. As regards the quality of the stonework, the only place where I saw something comparable (or, in part, maybe even better) was the - sadly much more destroyed - palace of Kyros at Pasargadae. I was still a student of Classical Archaeology then, and saying this when I was back at my university did not exactly help me to win friends amongst some graecocentrist-minded professors of mine...

    Something archeologists should be aware of;
    The shallow long staircases weren't designed to slow a progression, they were constructed to accommodate the Horses, Camels, Goats and Sheep that were presented as royal tribute, as can be seen in the reliefs adorning the passageways.
    Steep steps wouldn't have been practical for horses and camels.
