It's astonishing that we have written evidence of the deliberate robbing of the royal tombs by the priesthood during the time leading up to the Third Intermediate Period, let alone the actual physical evidence. This is a superb documentary presenting new discoveries and historical conclusions rather than recycling old stuff. Amenhotep III was the Pharoah at Egypt's undisputable zenith, but that does not make him the greatest Pharoah. (An aside: the term "Pharoah" only came into use for the king about his time). I think that Hatshepsut and Thutmose III set the stage for Amenhotep III's magnificence, and very much added to Egypt's power and wealth. Also, I think the key person in the kingdom at this time was his father-in-law, Yuya, who may also have been his uncle, as well as possibly the father of Ay, who (nefariously) succeeded Tutankhamun. Some wild speculation (Osman) has even suggested that Yuya was the biblical Joseph, but that's contradicted by the fact that his mummy and that of his wife Tjuyu and their daughter Tiye are very well preserved in Egypt to this day. During the reign of Amenhotep III, the cult of the Aten was already significant, and after Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten's accession, Tiye still had an influential position, so I wonder whether Yuya had something to do with the beginnings of the Aten cult and the conflict with the Amun priesthood.
How much I love Egyptian history ... I can not describe. Our school at the time was embarked on a journey of WORLD HISTORY and even included the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD .. HANGING GARDEN OF BABYLON WAS ONE OF THEM.. And now back to Amenhotep , Atenaken , Tutankhamon ( sad he died too young as a Pharaoh ) Nefertiti the wife .. and more after Seti .. our world history class .. was only up to here.. Thank you and thank for the best enthusiasm you have had like me . THE EGYPTIAN , PHARAOHS , PYRAMIDS , KING OF KINGS AND VALLEY OF THE KINGS ...
I bet it is... she's my role model.. I adore her and she is so unique in spirit, I've often wondered how someone with her personality, who has such a love of ancient Egypt and spent her life surrounded and amazed by beauty... would decorate their home lol !
Great discovery of Dr. Joan. She has eleborated the entire archaeological findings of Amenhotep III very vividly. Well done Madam. Thanks for your valuable contribution to the Egyptian history.
Joann's presentation of the subject is wonderful. She brings history to life, I can listen to her all day! What a marvelous woman to retell marvelous history.
I think now the Pyramid is not what I cannot imagine but the fact that the empire existed continuously for thousand of years. Maybe that is the reason why they can build great thing like the Pyramid of Giza.
There is nothing else as most amazing and powerful in the world, than listening to a person, who's heart is burning like the brightest sun, for the subject they know and love.
@@riverdeep399 More like : who better to know that religion is phony , just a way to wealth & power than the priests ( and that's about every religion in the world ancient or present )
Unfortunately, corruption was endemic in the ancient Egyptian priesthood for much of its history. After worshippers left consecrated offerings to the gods at temples, the priests would divide all the treasures up amongst themselves.
Some rival pharaohs give the order to was not just done by the priests you mean like how the politicians or leaders do today lol The priests was very badly punished and then who ever give the order just blame the priests just like the knight templars (knight priests)
Great episode. I love how it ties together so many generations of the pharaohs and the priests ... the political and religious struggles that are seen in the clues left behind.
She is an amazing host...her love and enthusiasm for what she is seeing and explaining is contagious. She makes these documentaries some of the best I've seen. Scenes of her strolling or sitting in the desert with her dark clothing, red hair, and black umbrella...iconic. What a legend lol.

Good video. It's a blessing to have been able to discover the burials, tombs and mummies, pyramids and large statues of Egypt and to be able to decipher their drawings on the walls of chambers, relics and to be able to see these items in the museums.
They do put their heart into the telling of these stories handed down. It comes from long years of intense study and reflection, to make you feel you’re experiencing it yourself.

Golden age of Kemnet is highly viewed as one of the thriving points of ancient kemmet. Pharoah Amenemhat lll built great constructions such as the black pyramid at Hawara and temples. His statue is self explanatory and so is the name Kemmet.
I know she's controversial now, but I always loved Joann's documentaries. She has SO much passion for what she's talking about, and she's gone into more detail in her docs than any other presenter/historian/archeologists I know (and I've watched a LOT on ancient Egypt 😅)
@@yurironoue5888 She was part of a group who were searching for Nefertiti, and they had a docu crew with them from Discovery. She got banned from Egypt until 2008 as a result. It was a whole messy thing 😅

I love the professor’s passion for historical Egyptology. Even getting emotional at certain artefacts. I also love hearing the Egyptian workers singing whilst they dig. Wish I new what words they were singing.
I love the way she goes into detail about Egyptian lifestyle not only about there political standing and principles, but also how she can only imagine what one must have been at that time period.
I find it funny that when the priests decided to raid all the tombs, they couldn't find King Tutankhamun's tomb. I guess you could say that Tutankhamun and his parents had the last laugh....
I read about King Tut's tomb. What the deal was while they were working on his tomb, he died by having a Hippo bride and she rolled on top(so he died prematurely. His tomb was not ready. They wanted to get him buried because the FLIES WERE GETTING THICK so they put him in a finished tomb of a noble. The Pharaohs tomb would have been higher up in the walls of the valley. The noble would be in the valley but buried at a lower spot.. Every spring the rains come and like a dirty river go down through the valleys. Because King Tut was a short lived king he did very little so not much is written about him. Then the fact he got stuffed into a Lower tomb which may have had the rains for a couple of seasons, and Tut's tomb was in a corner ov the valley; after the first rain storm the silt and sand would have covered over the entrance and it may have been underwater for awhile so its location was lost. Tomb raiders could not find the entrance as it was filled with sand mud and silt.. Besides, anyone buried down low was not a pharaoh, so not worth digging for.. If all the stuff in his tomb was from the Armana age, then it is tainted gold. It would not be much for a short lived ruler. . So what was found in Tut's tomb was alot for a rule of 10 years...,Imagine what was in Ramses II who lived until he was 97 He ruled for over 60 years.
@BunzeeBear I watched documentaries on King Tut. Some say he was murdered in order for someone else to take the thrown (which isn't uncommon). Others say he had a nasty accident while driving his chariot and because of the limited knowledge of bacteria and such, he died (which this was proved to be more likely after X-rays). His wife, was actually, his sister. So because of inbreeding, the babies died.
Well king Tuts father was the blasphemer king Akhenaton! the hated monotheistic king! That change centuries of the mass religious practices With his rule! And Tut died young so maybe It was a secret slight of hand burial..
37:11 Look through the gaps in the 2nd chariot from the left. That really freaked me out for a second when I saw it. Can anyone identify what it is? A statue? A doll? It seems a lot more realistic than other statues I've seen.
It appears to be a portrait bust of Tutankhamun; we'd have to check out one of the several "treasures of King Tut" style documentaries to be able to identify it further.
These documentaries are really interesting and keep you in sense of wounder that how the life has existed on earth and keeps on living thanks for sharing your knowledge and efforts

During the reign of Amenhotep III, the cult of the Aten was already significant, and after Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten's accession, Tiye still had an influential position, so I wonder whether Yuya had something to do with the beginnings of the Aten cult and the conflict with the Amun priesthood.
awuma You raise a good point, someone influenced Akhenaten.
It's my understanding that Aten was a very old God worshipped during the old kingdom.
And you believe in the Easter Bunny as well ?

Ive seen this womans house ..
Its just as amazing as Egypt itself .
I bet it is... she's my role model.. I adore her and she is so unique in spirit, I've often wondered how someone with her personality, who has such a love of ancient Egypt and spent her life surrounded and amazed by beauty... would decorate their home lol !

I almost forgot he was Tutankhamun's grandfather.
I love Ancient Egypt, I love her passion, thats why you want to listen to her and absorb her brilliance.
If I am lucky, one day I hope to go to these places and see these things. It is my truest and deepest wish.
I think now the Pyramid is not what I cannot imagine but the fact that the empire existed continuously for thousand of years. Maybe that is the reason why they can build great thing like the Pyramid of Giza.
There is nothing else as most amazing and powerful in the world, than listening to a person, who's heart is burning like the brightest sun, for the subject they know and love.
she did an excellent documentary her enthusiasm and passion about antiquity keeps you interested
First Time I have Used Internet To Watch such a Fabulous Video !!

I didn't know either but I'm not surprised.

The Priests do the same today, Expect the Tombs they rob... are peoples Soul's !
Thank you for this documentary, indeed it helps a lot to know and understand how magnificent ancient Egypt.
The way se talks and explain thing is everything...you can tell that this is something that really interest her...love this
Professor Joann Fletcher really brings history to life!!
It's really sad that the tombs of the pharaohs were raided by the priests themselves, so much history lost. At least tutunkhamun's survived
Unfortunately, corruption was endemic in the ancient Egyptian priesthood for much of its history. After worshippers left consecrated offerings to the gods at temples, the priests would divide all the treasures up amongst themselves.
I think the priests even new this was BS. ??
Some rival pharaohs give the order to was not just done by the priests you mean like how the politicians or leaders do today lol
The priests was very badly punished and then who ever give the order just blame the priests
just like the knight templars (knight priests)
Great episode. I love how it ties together so many generations of the pharaohs and the priests ... the political and religious struggles that are seen in the clues left behind.
I love this prof. She takes me on a journey I cant stop watching I wish I could go to Egypt and learn with her KEEP THESE Coming please🙌🏿🙌🏿❤

She is an amazing host...her love and enthusiasm for what she is seeing and explaining is contagious. She makes these documentaries some of the best I've seen. Scenes of her strolling or sitting in the desert with her dark clothing, red hair, and black umbrella...iconic. What a legend lol.
Love love love these documentaries and the presenter. She’s just lovely, and I love how she gets emotional, that’s how it should be, she’s so passionate and dedicated, touched by her area of study. It’s so refreshing and wonderful to see and I think you can get more onboard when you see someone really relish and be connected with what they do. ❤️❤️
It still amazes me what they were able to build 3,000-4,000 years ago. Mind blowing.
Good video. It's a blessing to have been able to discover the burials, tombs and mummies, pyramids and large statues of Egypt and to be able to decipher their drawings on the walls of chambers, relics and to be able to see these items in the museums.
Professor Fletcher makes learning about history so much fun and easy!
They do put their heart into the telling of these stories handed down. It comes from long years of intense study and reflection, to make you feel you’re experiencing it yourself.
if i had teachers like her, i would have done so much better in school. she loves egypt so much and she shows so much passion when she speaks. thats everything
Golden age of Kemnet is highly viewed as one of the thriving points of ancient kemmet. Pharoah Amenemhat lll built great constructions such as the black pyramid at Hawara and temples. His statue is self explanatory and so is the name Kemmet.
This is the best Egyptology series I know of. Thank you so much.

TIMELINE is the New History Channel. The New Nat Geo. The NEW Perfection.
I know she's controversial now, but I always loved Joann's documentaries. She has SO much passion for what she's talking about, and she's gone into more detail in her docs than any other presenter/historian/archeologists I know (and I've watched a LOT on ancient Egypt 😅)
Why is she controversial?
@@yurironoue5888 She was part of a group who were searching for Nefertiti, and they had a docu crew with them from Discovery. They submitted the paper saying "yes we think we've found her", but Zahi Hawass (and others) disagreed. Then Hawass got butthurt because the documentary came out, and he claimed it violated the Egyptology rules of not making things public before all the proper paperwork had been submitted. She got banned from Egypt until 2008 as a result. It was a whole messy thing 😅
Thank you for making these documents free

I also love hearing the Egyptian workers singing whilst they dig. Wish I new what words they were singing.

Persians and Egyptian and Greek History is so deep and it’s funny how most these countries have forgotten who they are
I find it funny that when the priests decided to raid all the tombs, they couldn't find King Tutankhamun's tomb.
Google the artifact press images.
The only few things i knew abt the Egypt is pyramids mummys & pharaohs and the rest i learnt is from this awesome professor Ms. Fletcher ✨
