I’m Egyptian and I would like to thank you for mentioning the camels thing. People think camels are part of our heritage and culture but it’s totally not. It’s only available at touristic sites for merely commercial purposes. Unlike what people may think, we are much more about agriculture than desert stuff. The pyramids were surrounded by agricultural land until a century ago. Most of our traditions and habits are strongly related to the agricultural nature of old Egypt.

n a recent study, genetic samples were taken from at least 90 mummies. What geneticists working alongside archaeologists found was that the mummies had closer genetic connections to the Middle East, specifically the Levant and Anatolia. This is an interesting find since it suggests that modern Egyptians are more African than ancient Egyptians.

Colonialism can change culture and language but not the people themselves. Modern Egyptians are more or less the same as the ancient ones as much as the modern Nigerians are more or less the same as the ancient Nigerians.
FYI, The Egyptian Language (coptic) was still the majority native language in Egypt until 400 years ago and still to our date it remains the official language of the Egyptian orthodox church and is still used in some parts in Egypt. And still, most of the cultural heritage of Egypt is about the agricultural lifestyle and to this date the vast majority of Egyptians live along the banks of the nile river.

This lady is who I wanted to be when I was growing up. My path didn't end up that way, but I love watching her. She is so intelligent, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You can see how much she loves what she does. This series is informative and very well directed. Fascinating.

I was always fascinated by ancient Egypt. I never thought I would be able to go but I finally made a dream come true. The feeling of seeing the Giza pyramids is overwhelming, beautiful.
Even as a child Egypt fascinated me. I used to spend hours reading and watching documentaries about every part of Egypt.
It is still a major dream of mine to visit and spend weeks exploring and learning about Ancient Egypt to the Egypt we know today.
Egypt is part of every single one of us in one way or another.
My love and respect to this amazing culture and incredible history.

As a child I was amazed by Egypt and even now I would sit down all day reading and watching videos of Egypt and the things they did it's still my dream to visit Egypt and see all the amazing and fascinating things they left behind

What I'm most impressed with is that there was ancient tourists back in 1300BC visiting an even more ancient structure. The step pyramid of Djoser was already ancient to the 1300BC Egyptians. Gosh.
I’m still hoping that someone will take the time and effort to make a Virtual Reality environment of how these monuments looked when they were new, just finished. To see Giza Pyramid complex when the pyramids were shimmering in white limestone and capped with gold, all the colors and palm trees...wow.

I was born in Bosnia and grew up surrounded by medieval castles. 700 years old but still standing. Pyramids are much older and sturdier. Impressive.

The pyramids are old but if you are looking for something that really boggles the mind then look at the buildings uncovered at Karahan Tepe in Anatolia, they are at least 12,000 years old, 7000 years older than the pyramids. The carvings on the 5 metere high, 10 ton, T-shaped roofing pillars are so old as to pre-date the discovery of agriculture!!!!!!!

I watched all Timeline documentaries on Egypt. I’ve been there 2 times already. Many times this passionate historian and lady brought tears to my eyes while watching and reliving the beautiful moments I’ve spent in Giza, Cairo, Saqqara, Luxor, Valley of the Kings etc. I can not describe the beauty of that land, especially when you grew up fascinated by pharoahs and pyramids…and the fascination never quite died. I can’ wait to visit one day the GEM, Abydos, Alexandria and Assuan.

My partner and I visited Egypt in November 2020 , an absolutely incredibly wonderful place , too many places to mention my favourite was nefertari’s tomb , stunning , if at all possible do it you will never regret it x

I got to go there in 1969 and again in 1977. Great place to visit as all 86 of the nation I have visited are but I Like living in NYS on the Border with PA on the Apalalcan side of Troups Creek. Prettiest place I have ever see.

I went all the way there & our guide told us we might not be able to get in if a tour comes & buys tickets for the whole day- ( they only allow a certain amount of ppl in 2 x per day bc when ppl sweat in ruins the limestone) well I never thought this would happen, but guess what??? It Did!!! Instead of telling me I could hv gotten up early & went & bought them myself for my daughter & I/ he was just like, oh someone bought all the tickets!! I was devastated !! I go all the way there & could not go inside!!! That was the only day I could hv done it due to the schedule!! I’m still so upset & that was 6 yrs ago, & I rly wanted my 13 yr old daughter to see. How often do you get to go on a trip like that, not that often! I literally cried, but I still love Egypt & will hopefully go bk 1 day!!!!

I read in a book some time ago that whenever you were in a tricky situation that there is always someone there in a position that can help you, it's just whether or not they choose to help you.
Ever since I read it I have noticed that there were a number of times where a person was in the exact position to help me but they didn't do it.
Now whenever someone asks me for help I try to do it. Unless I get a bad feeling about them, then it's safety first!
Her sincere enthusiasm takes you at the edge of your seat. Very eloquent, unbiased to her story telling style, it's not like one of those documentary where somebody forces you to believe everything what is being said but how she delivers is relaying information and educate about a certain culture and history.
She's definitely not unbiased. E.g. trying to pass hyerogliphs as the olders writing systems, while actually cuneiform is the oldest (a few hundred years older)

Really? Ireland's New Grange predates dynastic Egypt and was built during the Neolithic, Gobleki tepe in Turkey dates from the end of the last Ice age and is many thousands of years older than Sumer and Egypt.

@Carl Lewis Who knows if Arabic as a language was found at ancient Egyptian times or not? I have no clue rather than Arabic language was spread because it is the language of our religion which is Quran. Even earlier Jewish Egyptians in Egypt were talking Arabic not Hebrew as example. We are not Arabs because of the spoken language. We are Egyptians because of the land that feeds us every day! We appreciate our ancestors beliefs not because of the controversial to our faith, but because of the pleasure to compare how they were and what our beliefs now are to worship one God. Language is not the issue here. And realistically majority of Egyptians are not Arabs! We are Turkish who used to speak and write Arabic because we are muslims ! So, Arabic as a language was spread because of many people returned to Islam as a religion after era of darkness !!

do we have any clue why those images at Qurta were created? perhaps as some kind of "hunting magic." why do these "archeologists" always conclude or assume our ancestors were superstitious morons who believed in magic and the supernatural? here's an idea. maybe the images were created out of a deep appreciate for natural beauty and an overwhelming desire for self expression. you know, its called ART! they were simply recreated the images they saw before them because they admired their beauty and not for any ceremonial or religious reasons.

im young and im learning about egypt and found this and now i feel like i want to be an archeologist of egypt because there are so many things to be discover in egypt.

We are a degraded successors of our great ancestors. It’s fascinating to realise, even they had 24 hours a day and created wonders. Also need to thank each and every human force involved in excavation project and bringing this to light. Simply outstanding.

What amazes me are the techniques that most ancient civilizations had to have buildings withstand thousands of years, and still have it be structurally sound to this day.

I am going to really enjoy this series. If ancient Egypt fascinates you then I have a tip for you. Rent or buy Assassin's Creed Origins as it has a historical mode that allows you to not only visit many locations of ancient Egypt but it also has 60 narrated historical tours that cover a wide range of interests. The game is set during the time of Cleopatra and beautifully recreates ancient Egypt. Not everything presented is historically accurate as some accommodations had to be made for game play and some architecture had to be guess at such as The Library of Alexandria but none the less the recreation is stunning. With that said the creators went to amazing lengths to preserve historical accuracy. It is an amazing opportunity to roam around ancient Egypt and take in the sights. You can even run around as Cleopatra if you like!
And you can impale people on a pike...Vlad style!
If you want to save some money, and/or don't want to engage with the murderous M-rated gameplay of the main game (which is quite fun btw), the Discovery Tour is available as a separate purchase on PC for 20 bucks. While it is included for free in the full game, 20 dollars might be well worth it for educational purposes, or for exploring with kids. I think it'd be a dream for a curious kid to be set loose among the pyramids, get to go INSIDE THEM, and along the way, learn their history and how they were each built... then you can go beyond that! Don't be put off by the violent reputation of the series, this truly is fun for the whole family. There's even controversial aspects related to that, as some nudity in ancient art has been censored out! Nary a stone nipple to be ogled.
