The Hebrew Barrister Funny story here actually. Several years ago now, I ended up in court over a dispute and the individual I was in dispute with came to court in this hideous, cheap, poorly fitting, metallic white suite and garish, metallic gold tie. I didn't own an actual suite at the time, however, I dressed well in fitted clothing and subdued colors, a decent blazer and a nice overcoat. Within the first five minutes, you could see by the judges expression exactly how things were going to turn out. I have never been more thankful for having good taste and good sense in my life.
Gentleman's Gazette You are very welcome and I hope it helped to illustrate your point that how you dress matters. And thank you, sir, for all of the advice and insight you share. It has had and will, I am certain, continue to have a very positive impact on my life. And wardrobe.
Bjorn Ronaldson I always had my work attire relatively on point, but never worried too much about going out casually. That experience changed my mind. the worst I'll do now is chinos, polo, boat shoes.
The Hebrew Barrister which sounds perfect. I have found that I actually need to expand my collection of chinos and polos,. A lot of the work I do is manual labor these days and I cant tell you how badly I want to change into something comfortable and decent looking after I get done working.
Gentlemen's Gazette seriously doubt you would have received that line of credit for $100,000 had you been dressed in a graphic T Shirt, shorts & flip flops. I work at a International Airport, during the summer I see many men dressed this way. Once overheard a well dressed lady passenger tell another passenger, that some European countries say "The average American dress like their going camping."
And it isn't just the t-shirts. What brands/styles of shoes are people wearing? Sports or hiking shoes. Coats? Same thing with brands like Northface which are mostly meant for hiking.
Dressing down isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there is a time and a place for it. On top of context, it is also a lot about dressing well and with intent. A casual outfit with perfect fit will garner more respect than a dressier outfit with a poor fit in most situations.
@@turonov You are only right if you try to take what John said to the extreme. A mediocre suit will look more formal than than a great polo for sure. But wearing well fitting neat dark jeans, dress shirt and sport coat will look better and more formal than a really sloppy suit, or one you are bursting out of.
In this chaos world, men do not know how to wear, how to act like a gentleman, they nearly forget what great things their grandpa and their ancestor had. Your channel is guiding people back to the traditional lifestyle, Sven Raphael Schneider! Your behavior is so civilized and elegant! Great job! Keep moving!
Last month I went to see The Phantom of the Opera. My friends and I dressed up, went to dinner and then went to the show. Sadly, most of the people there looked like they had just rolled out of bed. It was sad.
I Literally LOVE to dress up, but have been reluctant to, because of what other people have said. It's funny, because people will try to get you to dress down or even call you, "over dressed," just because they are to lazy to dress up. GREAT VIDEO!!
Badazzcanbe ! I struggled for years worrying about what others thought. Eventually I realized that my opinion counts too and now I don’t care what they think anymore. I encourage you to wear what you want in spite of what others think. If you do, I bet you’ll find that the people who matter will respect you for it.
Same thing I find at times. Especially from people who are close to you. Perhaps they feel threatened. It comes easier though, since they’ll get used to it. Weird how it’s strangers who appreciate it more than your close friends. I’ve gone to Walmart with a three piece suit and gotten some compliments from people I didn’t know. They love it! I mean, people watch vintage films and say things like “Back when people actually dressed better!” But they do not dress up themselves. So my take is, be the change you want to see. Dress up!
You are correct. I was hired for my last teaching position because I wore a navy blue suit and tie to the interview. I was the only person interviewed who wore a suit. I worked at that school 20 years. ( Until I retired) BTW- It was for the economics teaching position. I dressed as a banker, dressed the part.
@@2bitrasputin793 they're fundamental. Economics is (at it's most basic level) supply vs demand. One form of this is Money supply vs money demand. When there's a lack of money supply in the economy, the value of each existing unit of currency goes up and vice versa. A metric you might be familiar with is inflation. Banks are fundamental to helping grow and shrink this money supply in the economy through lending. This money can go into endless things, whether it's for consuming goods/services or investment into the business (which give people jobs and eventually pay taxes). While this is a rather rudimentary example, I hope it helps.
I'm a first-year college student who has recently started dressing up more regularly, helped in part by this great channel. It really doesn't take much; just a pair of chinos here or a pocket square there and I already have an advantage over my fellow students. And yes, some do ridicule the sight of a 19-year-old in a shirt and tie in a sea of sweatpants and t-shirts but at the end of the day, it's what I feel comfortable in if nothing else.
I'm a diplomat working in Turkey and was invited to a charity concert (at night). I was picked up, in a brand new black BMW SUV, and to my surprise by colleagues wearing jeans and t-shirts, and sandals no doubt. Although very hot during the summer, I was utterly shocked by their lack of formality and respect for the event and event organizers. When I entered the car they said "Ok, first things first. Go home and change. You're making us look bad", to which I replied "I agree with going home and changing, but to your home. This is a concert after all.". We arrived and I was met by the organizer who ushered me to the front of the hall, unclipped the red velvet rope and sat me down next to several ministers. I wanted to ask him to reclip the rope and leave my colleagues in the aisle. This was based on my simple style of dark blue Chinos, a white dress shirt, a dark tan suede blazer and brown penny loafers. I purposely made an effort to sit directly next to the Turkish authorities to avoid photos taken of them sitting next to other diplomats in t-shirts. How have we come to this? Come one people, wake up!
I've been watching your videos for years and keep going back to my favourites, even as a woman there's some very solid advice that can be applied to everyone. A lot of common sense and good philosophy. Aside from that, I have two brothers and an SO who rather rely for me on advice and when in doubt, I come here to educate myself. There are a million blogs out there but very few hold up to your standard, and for someone who is interedsted in fashion and dressing well, (and not just for women), your channel is gold. Thank you.
As a 16 year old I can't really wear a suit to high school, though I stay at least neutral and when I have any chance to dress up, such as visiting a theatre with class, I always do. In my opinion, sweatpants should stay at home :)
Jan Rerych very cool. Very rare today. It will pay off. We are more than the clothes we wear but you will be treated better simply because of your good manners and consideration of how you appear to others.
Jan Rerych i am 16 and I live in France. No uniforms at school but It as been now 2 years I wear a suit everyday and for the first months peoples told me sometimes that I shouldn't dress this way as a teenager but now most of peoples don't even give a look, sometimes people that I know well tell me if what I wear looks great or not. You firstly dress for you, I don't know how peoples in USA High schools would react but don't worry. Try going sometimes at school wearing a suit! Hope you understood my english, I apologize, I am still learning after all.
Baptiste Jordan yeah, well the thing is, as much as I'd like to wear a suit to school, I go to electrotechnical school and not only that it is more comfortable to wear a hoodie and jeans, but I also don't want to ruin my suit xd And I'm from Czechia actually :)
Its all about context and pourpouse . If you work in a millenial casual Job showing up in a Suit you show a lack of social fluency and risk a certain level o exclusion. But if youre a lawyer going to help out milenials you show authority , si its all about context
I saw the Twitter CEO on TV a few days ago (my first time seeing him, so it was a "first impression") in an interview addressing an extremely important topic and he was in a frumpy t-shirt which just made him look like a slacker who didn't care about the topic he was talking about. Clothes are indeed a form of communication.
That's Silicon Valley style for you. I really don't get the appeal of dressing like that, even if you're in the tech field. Not only does wearing a t-shirt to an interview make you 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 like a slacker, it probably makes you 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 like one too. A t-shirt and jeans makes me feel like I'm going for a leisurely walk outside. A jacket and tie gets me pumped and ready to work.
I've always felt something awfully sinister and disingenuous about this Silicon Valley style. I guess it's the message it sends. Having the world's most powerful CEOs dress down to their employees might look like a friendly gesture, but it's a bit of a "wolf in sheep's clothing" situation where a man can instantly sell all your personal info to any corporation and will probably make your job disappear, but "he's totally okay, guys, not like those evil Business Suits".
I've dressed in a polo shirt and khakis to most IT interviews I've had and it's worked well for me. Once I've got the job, it's generally jeans and whatever I want to wear on top. It's all about what you know and what you can produce. You can't BS your way into producing a program or website by dressing better than anyone else. Also, I save time and money by not having to iron clothes every day, and no need to pay for dry cleaning.
People do notice you if you look and dress well. You will stand out because so many men dress so poorly, sloppy and with not much real care. If you just put some effort into looking well, people around you notice. They will even if they say nothing. Just today I stopped by my local alteration store that does most my tailoring on my way home from work. I was dressed sharp and with a shirt jacket on. Though I wore the jacket to work, I didn’t keep it on all day being relaxed at the office. But you never know where your going to stop on your way home. As I walked into the store, the girl that usually do my cloth measurements immediately recognized me and shouted out my name just like that to her other coworker to get my cloth that was tailored. I was impressed she knew my name in full. She then commented how sharp I looked, including my nice shirt jacket style. She does have a part in me looking dressed well. As she has personally fitted me over and over in at least 50+ Trousers. I could see the girl had a sense of pride in not only me being a customer, but she seemed to feel great in mood in having fitted me often for tailoring and looking well dressed. People do pay attention even if you think they aren’t. Just dress well and go about your daily business or visiting places. People will surely react to you different how you appear in and around them.
Ardent, Thanks for sharing your story. I live in Jersey and go to New York City often and I am mostly in a suit. And I sure notice that people usually do respect me more since I am wearing a nice suit. And I think people ask me for money more in New York because I dress in Double breasted or single-breasted suits, and they think I have money! People are definitely more polite and respectful to me wearing a suit than they would be if I was in a white T shirt, jeans and work boots. Keep dressing nice my friend. You are correct people do notice when you dress well ! All the best.
In the very end, it is always a question of common sense, good taste, perception of contexts and people and self-care, with some consideration for the opinion of others since we live in a society and what others say can be useful.
Years ago I read an article about dress and attitude. One comment I will never forget was from a retired stewardess. She commented how when people used to go to the airport men had on suits mostly and women nice dresses or skirts. You looked nice. Now you see flip flops and sweat pants and shorts and crop tops. She said the poor attitude goes with the dressing down. She said when people were dressed up their behavior was much better than in years when dressing down at the airport became popular.
They treat people like animals when they go through the airport. It would take an extra 30 minutes to make it through security if you don't wear sweatpants and flip flops...
On a recent trip to Germany, I dressed daily in dress slacks, blazer, and a hat. I was stopped three times in one day in the train station by tourists asking if I spoke English and could I provide directions. Apparently, not dressing in sneakers, "mom" jeans, and a sweatshirt meant that I looked like a German businessman instead of an American tourist. It was quite funny to see their expressions when I told them I spoke English as well as they did and where I lived. I also remember when people dressed decently when traveling instead of like slobs.
Whilst I broadly agree with the nine reasons dressing down is overrated, I think the general direction of the argument that dressing well is weighted more toward the world of business and commerce. I have worked in factories when I was younger and obviously dressed 'blue collar'. That said, I now work in education (a primary school teacher) and as a male teacher. I try to dress 'up' in order to bolster my authority. I don't wear a business suit however I do wear a formal shirt and jacket. My colleagues comment on my dressing 'up' - mostly in a positive way. The children, I think, notice that I've made a certain amount of effort and I'd hope it reflects in the way they behave;-) I do enjoy your videos. They are about the best on RUclips (I've looked at others and I don't find them as good - in my humble opinion)... At the moment I'm searching thrift and vintage shops...must have quality pocket squares! Must get another tweed jacket!!! Regards Tony
One value I wish my parents had instilled in me when I was young is to invest in quality things and take care of them. I've only learned that lesson in the past few years, and wish I'd picked it up a decade earlier.
Long time follower here. Your videos have always been great but it is fun to watch how the production quality has also increased. Thank you for posting these.
I am a woman who enjoys your channel. I work in an industry where we dress for work. Even so, I dress to the best of my ability. I never where pants. I wear skirts, dresses, skirted suits, dress pumps, and good quality jewelry, brooches, and silk scarves. I feel my dress makes me more serious in my field, which as a woman is important. When I fly, I always dress well. Dressing well does not mean being uncomfortable. I wear a low heeled pump, a comfortable skirt, a jacket and sweater, and I carry a silk pashmina for warmth on the plane. When I go out to run errands, I dress nicely, too. Part of dressing up is how it makes you feel about yourself. It's about the respect you give yourself, which gives others the signal to respect you back. I have a similar story to Raphael about dressing to get a job. I dress when I get together with friends. One of my friends offered me a job that I really wanted. Since I always dress well even in casual settings, my friend sees me as competent and professional which helped me to get the job offer that I really wanted.
I appreciate how video blogs like the Gentelman's Gazette are bringing back everything that is positive about masculinity. In my opinion, being a gentleman means being a capable, thoughtful, and trustworthy person, someone who is always conscious of what is happening around him and will take action when needed. I would also say that you don't have to have an office job to care about your clothes. If you do physical work, insist on a proper, well-made work uniform and take good care of it. You get what you pay for. Well-made work clothes improve the image of the company while taking good care of the working man in all environments. I have great respect for anyone who clearly shows he has pride in his work. Also, you can wear your work clothes for the physical work you do in the day and then change in the evening to go out for dinner or just grab a drink with friends. The first rule is: don't wear to work or on the street the same clothes that you'd feel comfy sleeping in! (no sweatpants and hoodies please!). If you just wear a clean, collared shirt you're already miles ahead!
I worked in IT on Wall St for about 15 years. My philosophy was to dress for the job I wanted. The end result was that the snooty traders deferred to me over the other 'nerds'. They saw a man that dressed like a director and gave him that level of respect. Perception is everything. Would you fly on an airplane if the captain and his crew showed up in shorts and sandals?
Jordan Belfort is also big on dressing well as a means of reinforcing your persuasiveness and respectability with people. And while Belfort doesn't do this himself, he's also pointed out that some really hardcore salesmen dress up all the time, even on weekends, just to maintain their mental state and to always feel comfortable in their work clothes. Very much like method acting.
Great video again. I like your mention of price. Dressing in classic menswear like suit and spots jacket combinations is far cheaper than in the more common sweatpants, flip flops, and athletic t shirt more commonly seen. Just this past week I picked up a very nice J. Press Grey Pinstripe Suit for $7 at a thrift store. Dry cleaning cost me $12. Then I let down the pants hem. Total cost of suit $19. In comparison a cheap mall t shirt cost around $25 to $30. I saved $6 and have a nice set of clothing that will last until I have grandchildren.
What some call "pandering to the opinions of others" I call "taking advantage of mindsets and reactions." Even if a man prefers to rock a more casual style in his day-to-day, learning to dress to a tee and look like a million bucks is a piece of badassery we should all have in our repertoire. I try to remember not to judge a book by its cover, and remember that everybody else DOES. Plus, looking sharp just feels sharp.
I am dressing better to avoid being depressed. I feel motivated to exceed at work and I have made a lot friends. We meet for coffee every morning. Dressing well has done wonders for me. I feel more confident and less isolated.
... a regional federal agency director in town for a meeting on the golf course. We paired up to play 9 holes. We both sported excellence golfing attire and exchanged our contact information. Several months later, he interceded in my favor to avert a serious situation. Case in point, always dress smartly!
I love the messages in this video, every message of it. This reminds me several years ago when i was totally oblivious about dressing well. my friend took me to his workplace (TV station) and the people who will perform dressed so well. seeing them close up live and seeing them on tv is a very different experience. after i got home i started to realize how bad my jeans already was. colors fading and feet area all torn up. i became ashamed of myself for never noticing such things long ago, it's like a shock therapy i need that was long overdue. then i started watching youtube style channels and started buying clothes that fit my size and personality. started throw away many old clothes and jeans because my eye has opened. at first my friends are shocked how changed i was and some even dislike me for it, but i don't care and keep moving forward. though i still need many pieces in my wardrobe, right now i'm proud to say that i can dress appropriately for most occasions. people tend to look at me more for dressing well and start conversation with me more. right now i'm into fragrances and i gotta say this is the invisible weapon to my style.
I feel like in today's world dressing up says "I don't care what others think about me" a lot more than dressing down. A lot of people will call you pretentious when you're the only one in a nice classy suit in a sea of jeans and graphic tees, but if you don't care and just stay true to your own style it makes you look a lot more confident and independent minded. I'm a woman but I'm very drawn to the whole gentleman culture this channel is all about, trying to craft my own variation of it without wearing the so-called power suits for women all the time.
So true. I am one of your female subscribers, and there is pressure on women to dress down as well. And there is some hostility towards us when we wear a dress or skirt, but I am fighting back. Thanks for the info.
6:16 "... that you show respect to the event ..." One time i deliberately dressed down do show disrespect to the even i was at, because i did not respect the BS that was going on. It felt really good.
Thank you for this video and thank you for taking the time to share with all of us here in RUclips land! The only thing I would add to this, as an addendum, is that dressing well is possibly even more important then dressing up. You can easily purchase drives of expensive, yet horrifying article of clothing that are called suites or jackets and still look bad.
Yes, my Italian-American grandparents and my mother taught me that dressing well shows respect to others. They were people of very little means, but they always found a way to dress well.
Thank you so much Raphael to having share this thoughts about dressing up or down. I firmly believe, as you stated in the video, that dressing up can pay more in a long period of time . It requires time and expertise, because not always if you pay more you get more.
Getting one pair of classic timeless leather shoes thst will last you decades is less expensive than buying new Nike Airs every four months when a new model comes out.
On that note about confidence, to quote Colin Firth’s character from the Kingsman films, “A suit is the modern gentleman’s armor.” That is to say, I know that when I have a three-piece combination with matching accessories on, I feel pretty bulletproof.
Ive worked in security all my life, i took a flight with my wife and kids to Zurich. I got talking to a guy who works for the swiss defence services...i ended up recieving a 24 month contract with the swiss government-on going...simply because Im 007
I feel like you are saying that dressing down, and dressing bad are the same thing. There are a lot of things that you can’t wear in the office place, that are still nice and make you look good, although There are occasions where a nice fitted suit is the only option, but you don’t need to wear a suit everyday to look good and respectable. If you wear a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie everyday, that can be considered dressing down and it looks bad, however wearing a flannel, nice fitted jeans and clean white sneakers is also considered dressing down however no one will look at you badly
Great video, I often get asked why I dress up and it sounds very off putting to me at first. But then when I give them my reasons they usually say " oh okay I totally get that".
Dressing well is always better than dressing poorly. One of the worst things that ever came into office culture was "Casual Friday". There is nothing casual about it. Casual Friday is one of the most complicated and stressful situations there could be because no one ever feels that they've dressed correctly. Everyone is trying to be a mind reader attempting to figure out exactly how Human Resources or the boss INTERPRETS what Casual Friday actually is. It's maddening. It also requires you to buy an entire secondary wardrobe just for one day a week. Most people don't wear the clothes they wear around the house on "casual Friday". It was much simpler when you dressed the same every day of the week. It also gives people the satisfaction at the end of the workday on Friday to loosen that tie or take off your dress shoes and start to enjoy the weekend. Simple and straight forward is the best. Love your channel!
"People often approach me that I otherwise wouldn't approach... and good things come out of it..." My favorite quote from this video. How true! Dressing well earns the respect and admiration of those who have earned respect. It is a form of good manners.
Ive been dressing up for about 3 months now just simple things like polos and sports jackets which is more dressy then what most people in my area and work wear and last week I dressed down jeans and t shirt for 1 dat as I was getting my hair cut and didn't care as I was just going to get hair in the shirt anyway. The whole time I was out I felt like I had forgotten something. I had forgotten to dress up. @Gentleman's Gazette Thank you for the tips I don't think I can go back to dressing down anymore.
I like that you say people approach you that perhaps you would not initially approach. I am somewhat shy as a female, and I feel inspired that dressing better may help me meet people and have them approach me first. I am friendly at the point that I actually meet someone, I just do not initiate.
Preach Papa Schneider! I completely agree. I work as a massag therapist doing home visits to clients in London. Even though I wear athleticwear when I'm actually treating people, I still wear an OCBD shirt, chinos, smartleather shoes and a smart coat when I'm on my way to them on public transport.
Extremely well-done and knowledgeable video on how men should dress! I like dressing up when it's called for and... YES! Thank you...When you dress up it shows respect for the other person too! And YES! people respect you more dressed up than dressed down! And you often feel better about yourself dressed up! People ask me for money all the time visiting New York because I am usually in a nice suit, and They think I have Money! I even went to Atlantic City several years ago with my girlfriend. In the morning we wore shirt and jeans but at night we both were dressed up. I wore a black suit and she wore a mini-skirt and heels. Hopefully societies men can start dressing up a little more than they do now! Great channel.
Such a wonderful channel. Every time I hear that intro, makes me want to dress up and smoke a cigar, while reading by the fireplace. That said, I must agree with the point on confidence: generally taking care of oneself, spending time getting ready, contributes strongly to that. Now, I've never been a fan of suits, I used to see them as trivial, penguin-looking, and they gave me an impression of lack of originality, but, as this channel convinced me, it was mostly due to ignorance. I do think, however, that it's better to dress down properly, than dress up poorly / distastefully. Anyway, glad I'm subscribed.
Hey, Raphael. How are you? I found your channel 2 weeks ago and I think I've already watched all your videos. Simply amazing! Congratulations. You've once said your parents are from Brazil. Do you speak portuguese? I'm from Rio de Janeiro, but now living in Portugal. I have to build my wardrobe from scratch, I have just a few pieces of clothes, formal or casual. I love the idea of dressing-up - I follow Aaron Marino since the begining of his channel - but I confess I'm lazy. In Brazil, flip-flops and shorts are pretty much everything you need, but in Europe the standard is higher (and I appreciate it). My doubt is: When are we "allowed" to dress down? I work at home, so I don't have to dress-up in a daily basis and I just go sloppy everywhere. Thank you very much and keep going with this great work! You are a great inspiration.
One of the best videos I've watched recently. Most people dress really lousy and most people lead lousy lives. Causation isn't correlation. Anyway, I imagine there's a strong correlation in this issue. Hey Raphael, Alles Gute aus Brasilien. Your videos are just great.
I liked your point that it’s easier to look good by dressing up, then by changing your physic. I think ultimately it’s important to take care of both, but dressing up is low hanging fruit that can be accomplished immediate, while you improve your body improvements. If you don’t like the way you look. Get a gym membership, to improve in the long term, and get some articles of clothing to improve your image right away. I am totally on the get clothes that fit you today, and worry about replacing them once/if your body composition changes tomorrow.
How to look your best as a rural mail carrier. I ended up purchasing a pair of Thursday Boot Co. President boots. I can't wear a suit, but what can i wear to look more dapper?
It depends on what kind of job you have. In tech, dressing up is frowned upon. Most people work long hours at their desk and want to be as comfortable as possible. Dressing down certainly helps.
I wear western clothing. That said when I dress up I wear a frock coat waistcoat( vest ) Tie and nice clean Stetson hat and boots. If in the city for special occasion a tweed coat , vest, pocket watch and tie , Fedora and nice dress shoes.
Unsure if other people have mentioned it already, but one of the main reasons I dress well nowadays is because it's like a form of "uniform". Its a conscious signal to myself when I look in the mirror that I'm going to be meeting and speaking to co-workers/peers and to respect the people and places I go to. You show respect to other people by showing them that they were worth the time to "dress up". Maybe I've been too indoctrinated from schooling where we had uniforms, but when I see a well dressed man even doing the grocery shop I give this little nod of respect knowing they made an effort and didn't just roll out of bed and walk in with their pajamas.
For myself, losing weight and dressing well have been an immense confidence booster. At times, I feel like I'm walking on clouds lol
How’d you do it.

Yep here in England spotting the Yanks on holiday is easy.

Reminds me again how much the standards have lowered and how inconsiderate so many have become.
It's just the decline of western civilization.
Dressing down isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there is a time and a place for it. On top of context, it is also a lot about dressing well and with intent. A casual outfit with perfect fit will garner more respect than a dressier outfit with a poor fit in most situations.
Wrong. Perfect fit will not compensate for dressing wrong. Mediocre fits with the right clothes will compensate for the lack of fit
@@turonov You made this comment for the sake of argument. Not only is it wrong, but it’s annoying. Fit is everything.
Well said, I totally agree
Last month I went to see The Phantom of the Opera. My friends and I dressed up, went to dinner and then went to the show. Sadly, most of the people there looked like they had just rolled out of bed. It was sad.
maccollectorZ Jesus won't judge one based on what he/she is wearing; however, I do enjoy wearing suits to church.
( Until I retired)
BTW- It was for the economics teaching position. I dressed as a banker, dressed the part.
awesome!
What do banks have to do with economics?
@@2bitrasputin793 they're fundamental. Economics is (at it's most basic level) supply vs demand. One form of this is Money supply vs money demand. When there's a lack of money supply in the economy, the value of each existing unit of currency goes up and vice versa. A metric you might be familiar with is inflation. Banks are fundamental to helping grow and shrink this money supply in the economy through lending. This money can go into endless things, whether it's for consuming goods/services or investment into the business (which give people jobs and eventually pay taxes). While this is a rather rudimentary example, I hope it helps.
I showed up to my inteverview at the comc book shop back in college and they were like.... uh this is the guy.
Dressing always paid off.
I always loved the saying " My first sign of respect for your human dignity is my state of dress." Great video, thank you!
Dressing well shows respect to those you engage with.
Deep... Ponder mode engaged.
I really like that
Love that!
it summons respect from those you engage with
That's literally what is said in the video.
I love your style ! Your positivity ! Everything ! Don't ever change ! You have the eternal youth in your state of mind !
Evan Rice thank you :)
Baptiste Jordan yeah, well the thing is, as much as I'd like to wear a suit to school, I go to electrotechnical school and not only that it is more comfortable to wear a hoodie and jeans, but I also don't want to ruin my suit xd And I'm from Czechia actually :)
Oh ok, yes it would not be cool to ruin a nice suit by working all the day in conditions that are not suitable for wearing a suit^^
Its all about context and pourpouse . If you work in a millenial casual Job showing up in a Suit you show a lack of social fluency and risk a certain level o exclusion. But if youre a lawyer going to help out milenials you show authority , si its all about context
My face lit up when you said oxymoron. My college professor said it like that and I’ve been following his lead ever since (20+yrs).
Love it!
Right. If you wear a suit for a Silicon Valley interview, you are often unlikely to get the job.
@@fountaincap Friggin millenials *smh*. (I'm a millenial too btw).
My father had to wear his sunday best when he got on a plane in 60’s.
I think we need to bring back the no shirt no service rule.
"Dressing well is a form of good manners" I love that.
The airport defense for flip-flops doesn't cut it. There are perfectly good looking and comfortable slip on options.
Compare airline quality "back in the day" to today and this really shouldn't surprise anyone - least of all the airline employees.
@@ernststravoblofeld you could also just get over yourself lol.
Very helpful...I love this channel. So informative. I wish they had a classy ladies version. But I haven’t been able to find one.
One of your best videos Sven, and that says alot!
merci
Whilst I broadly agree with the nine reasons dressing down is overrated, I think the general direction of the argument that dressing well is weighted more toward the world of business and commerce. I have worked in factories when I was younger and obviously dressed 'blue collar'. That said, I now work in education (a primary school teacher) and as a male teacher. I try to dress 'up' in order to bolster my authority. I don't wear a business suit however I do wear a formal shirt and jacket. My colleagues comment on my dressing 'up' - mostly in a positive way. The children, I think, notice that I've made a certain amount of effort and I'd hope it reflects in the way they behave;-)
I do enjoy your videos. They are about the best on RUclips (I've looked at others and I don't find them as good - in my humble opinion)...
At the moment I'm searching thrift and vintage shops...must have quality pocket squares! Must get another tweed jacket!!!

Concerning the last point- I dress knowing that any woman I meet could be my future wife.
4:55 - 5:21 - Killin' it with the syllogisms and immensely strong arguments. Keep on!
Your nightwear is probably more dapper than my friends entire wardrobes 😆 thank you for the video
"The important thing is this: to be able, at any moment, to sacrifice what we are for what we could become."
LOVE this channel! I’d simply say eating right is 80% looking good, while working out will do the rest - thank you so much!
"Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man" Z Z Top
He said "inVESTment" during that clip putting on the vest... Nice
Whenever I wear a suit I feel 10x more confident and have no problem socializing but when I when I dress down my confidence falls.
Respect is a reoccurring point, and something to definitely consider. Great video and well put, Sven!
Thanks for your amazing videos!
I am dressing better to avoid being depressed. I feel motivated to exceed at work and I have made a lot friends. We meet for coffee every morning. Dressing well has done wonders for me. I feel more confident and less isolated.
I agree. One never knows who will cross one’s path who may inadvertently and soundly influence your future status and earnings. For example, I met
... a regional federal agency director in town for a meeting on the golf course. We paired up to play 9 holes. We both sported excellence golfing attire and exchanged our contact information. Several months later, he interceded in my favor to avert a serious situation.
Case in point, always dress smartly!
Ah yes that classic friendly, calming and educational voice
Fantastic video and fantastic message. This should be required watching for today's men, especially when travelling.
7:38 I really like that combination. It reminds me of mint chocolate-chip ice cream.
LOL 5:22 is so true. I suit up when I fly, more dining options upon arrival.
Gentleman’s Gazette, I am not a fan of the colors OR the materials he uses but dang he’s got lots of wisdom to share.
Love this channel.
1:31 I love that image in combination with the narration about society, very powerful
Thank you for this, I'm slowly learning to dress better and I am noticing a great change in my co-worker's reaction to my more professional wardrobe.
Why would anyone dislike this video. If it isn’t your thing, don’t watch! I’m wearing a suit to work on Monday and I’m going to look bloody fabulous.
I firmly believe, as you stated in the video, that dressing up can pay more in a long period of time
. It requires time and expertise, because not always if you pay more you get more.
Getting one pair of classic timeless leather shoes thst will last you decades is less expensive than buying new Nike Airs every four months when a new model comes out.
Yep my Farthers Churches have only just been resoled after 20 years and they still look dam good. How many nikes are still going strong after 2 years?
When it comes to dressing up or dressing down, it always depends on the situation.
Thanks for this video. I 've been dressing in a well-fitting suit for years and agree 100% with your points.
Great topic Sven. When a grown man dresses down he looks clueless and lowbrow. Dressing well projects to the world that you take your life seriously.
01:13 "Three out of four men feel underdressed all the time" - Video shows a hipster with a manbun.
🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣
I had no idea that you have kids! Your baby looks so cute and will probably grow up to be the most dapper kid on the block 💚
Erick Rodrigues for me it's when you're gonna meet other people like your friends, family, or coleagues
Classic. Saving this video for when I dress each day. Gold.
nice video do you have some tips for dressing as a gentleman if you go back to school? thank you
thanks for tellin what i can expect
Way to set the record straight!
Loved it!
I wear western clothing. That said when I dress up I wear a frock coat waistcoat( vest ) Tie and nice clean Stetson hat and boots. If in the city for special occasion a tweed coat , vest, pocket watch and tie , Fedora and nice dress shoes.
Very sharp. Subscribed
Im back. Thanks to this video I have going to the tailor to order a couple of suits on my next to do list
I think this is in my top five favorite of your videos!!!!
About that banker bit. Luck is when opportunity meets preparation.
Great vid Raphael I will be wearing a suit everyday at my new job.🤘😎🤙
Good!
My motto has always been "look good , feel good". ... also i notice the ladies young and old literally salivate when I dress up. AND I'M 48 YEARS OLD!
