Almost imperceptibly as human beings, we are finely tuned to pick up upon the prompts displayed by the behaviours and characteristics of our fellow participants in this ruthless human race.
In this video I discuss how the status symbols of style may be impacting upon your personal success and may make you rethink your own approach to your style attitude.

    Agreed on everything.
When you really begin to "dress to impress" on a regular basis, you almost find it to be a new lifestyle that you've embarked on.
When I'm on location at various businesses, it's assumed by many that I'm the business owner.
The employees have even used me (saying I'm their boss) as a good excuse to chase problem customers away, such as unwanted advances, etc.
I've had job offers out of the blue, since it tends to reflect your level of capability.
There are a majority of women around me since we work with retailers, and it never hurts to have a reputation as being handsome and well dressed.
But I also make sure that folks know I'm down to earth.
One thing you'll want to avoid, is anyone assuming that you're a snob.
If or when it's appropriate, I make sure they understand that I do so enjoy a more classic, gentlemanly style. But it's also a good form of manners, 'cause I like to dress properly to be in THEIR company.
Become the very best version of yourself guys, in all respects. It's so worth it.

@@TheChapsGuide as a young man I never understood this in fact I never thought about it but some years ago I had my road to Damascus moment and it was a shock. I'd been making so many mistakes and this captured me to be across the subject properly. Now I'm Australian which is far more informal than Europe or the UK. However, it's there under the surface waiting to be rediscovered. Thongs and a T shirts with a can of Fosters is not going to cut it, even in Australia.
In fact I'd go further, Australia has that image of layback easy going informality but nothing could be further from the truth.

    Dear Ash,
good clothing sometimes acts like a door opener.
My father never left the house without a suit and tie.
He often used the phrase that clothes make the man.
I've neglected that a bit. Now I dress more consciously again and I feel good about it.

This is true. When I was a professor, I dressed casually...as did most other professors... and even more so because field research was part of my work. When I moved to administration, my mentor insisted that I upgrade my wardrobe and overall self-care. I found people treating me like a completely different person. I've enjoyed new compliments, opportunities, and company quite different from anything in y previous lifestyle.

One needs to develop one's confidence. I once long time ago have seen an elderly man not far from Cambridge UK wearing trousers and sport jacket shirt and tie but somehow not in the best condition (some maybe sadly go through harsh period in life and cannot effort always news clothes) but he wore his attire with such confidence that it looked good and respectable.Really to be admired. Without confidence even a bespoke suit will not look as good as it should. And let us not start with hats and bow ties that requires the most confidence.

@@happydancer3025 I said no such thing regarding those who dress in t-shirts and jeans, nor do I see how anyone could draw that conclusion from my statement. I think jeans, t-shirts, ball caps and sneakers have their place. I simply echoed Ash on the affect of dressing well has on others, and their is a marked difference. If you think how you dress and present yourself isn't a major factor in the impression you make, then you are fooling yourself. This sounds like your own reflected insecurities. No where did I say I wouldn't spend time with someone in trainers. That's from your own insecure head. I dress well because it makes me feel good, and it does have a notable social effect. If you want to dress down that's your business, but as Ash said this is a channel for well-dressed men, so what exactly do you expect here? As far as my life: I found time to get two Ivy League degrees, raise two children, launch a successful career and still found time to learn how to dress myself in a gentleman's manner. It can be done. As far as women are concerned, Ive never had a problem in that area. I'm glad I repulse you 'madam', as I'd have no interest in someone with such low self-esteem, chips of insecurity on their shoulder, and such a fragile little ego. Its your bad attitude and atrocious manners that makes you ugly, not your jeans and trainers. The best fashion in the world cant help you with that.

Whether it be, grooming, clothes selection, or mannerisms. The compliment on your colognes, your choice of fabric, not to mention, your intricate details, are never ending. Even bosses stumbled on their own words, because they can’t help but be polite and subdued, in addressing the nature of the work place.

I tend to stick to henleys, short sleeve sweatshirts, or polos with jeans or chinos and a pair of brown suede chelsea boots for my going grocery shopping look/going out casually look in the summer. In the winter I like shawl collar sweaters and cardigans. You have inspired me to possibly throw on a blazer every once in a while! I used to dress fancier before I was married, but that fell to the wayside, as alas I gained too much muscle (good problem) and none of those clothes fit anymore. I used to tend towards pants or denim with a button down shirt and a vest and tie.

This is pretty spot on! I love wearing a three-piece suit and the way I get treated is very different to how I'm treated otherwise - like when I'm wearing my biker jacket! ;) But whilst it's not right, people do still judge a book by its cover so for a gent, it's important to understand this and know you can use it to your advantage. I've received preferential treatment on trains, in shops, got seats in a restaurant whilst others have been turned away and generally treated with more courtesy. Great vid.

    I agree on many points.
First, good clothing of a timeless style is an investment, one that pays back in the depth of time and money.
Back in the late 1970s a book called DRESS FOR SUCCESS came out, and I bought a three-piece suit of conservative cut for what was a good amount of money. I wore that suit for nearly 22 years before I essentially wore it out.
My shirts came from THE CUSTOM SHOP here in the USA, and while they cost about five times a cheap shirt, they wore like iron, and showed a great deal more style as they were of a serious design. Very cost-effective. And beautifully tailored, perfect fit, great attention to detail.
As for other pieces, I have found shoes, one pair black-and-white wingtips, for example, for $6 in my size, fit perfect. Within the last two years I have purchased three pair of shoes in black, brown, oxblood in VERY expensive style, for $6 each at a local resale/charity shop. I confess I had used my 30% seniors discount...but still...$6 each? Really?
I have found very nice shirts for $5, fresh from a professional laundering, still on the hangers.
    THESE ARE OUT THERE.
Two years ago I outfitted a friend who got a job as a Cadillac salesman, equipping him with three tweed jackets, two silk shirts, a nice selection of ties and four pair pleated pants for less than $80...and tailoring cost him less than $30 to get the pants and one jacket hemmed.
    HAUNT resale shops.
    CRUISE charity shops.
    FORAGE yard and estate sales.
PUT UP "WANTED" cards in stores that allow such things....if you don't ask, you'll never know what you can find.
I have even found men's clothing that was virtually free, as the woman selling them said she wanted to see someone she met wearing her husband's clothes, rather than see them go in some anonymous church jumble.
    BEST OF LUCK!

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  2 года назад +2

I utterly agree with your clothing ideology. I cannot afford many nice pieces for the wardrobe, but I aspire to wearing quality ites - the answer is to seek out the best items at prices that I can afford. By way of an example, I own about 10 shirts made by Turnbull & Asser (probably the best shirtmaker in the world). All these shirts have been sourced pre-owned from ebay and many have been in 'as new' condition. Never compromise, simply find another way to achieve your goals!!

If a Man looks his best when he's well dressed, why doesn't he want to do it everyday? Of course if your doing work or a project at home where you may get dirty or soiled, spending time with family or friends in the backyard etc; being casual is more warranted; however after that, it's time to dress better to be at your best. Dressing well doesn't have to be just for special occasions. After all, Life,

Hey, loved your video. But to me, I personally think having a pair of shined shoes is almost just as important as wearing a suit if not more. I've saw many people who wear suits at weddings, or just as I walk across city centre. Yes they look good, but their shoes are often unpolished or in some cases dirty. This rule when applies to people who wear trainers, most People who do wear trainers don't bother to clean to them properly.
The best way I distinguish someone who is well dressed to someone who "believes" they are well dressed is either A. They have shined shoes, B. The trainer's they wear are clean to the point they almost look brand new. Most people underestimate how cleaning trainers properly rather than just using a wet rag to clean them. Really does bring life back into the trainer's.

I've also noticed that a lot of times by Leading by example that it also encourages other people to start dressing a little nicer. It always vexes me to see people coming in our shop wearing pajama pants and flip-flops in public. It's almost like they have put out absolutely no effort and it's almost like they've just given up. I have found that it doesn't take that much effort and it does make you feel very good to look nice and get compliments. Thanks for the good work keep it up. Cheers Ron

It is always disheartening to encounter people wearing their nightwear in the supermarket at 4pm on a Tuesday, it does make me wonder about the future of the human race, but dressing well is as much about personal confidence as it is about the way you are perceived by others. I certainly know that a shirt and tie always lifts my self esteem...... a cheap boost in anyone's terms.

He was dressed in a navy blue shirt and dark trousers. He also told me that he had heard from his daughter how I place a significant amount of importance on my shoes. I was wearing a smart pair of made-to-order burgundy boots. He said all the people that come to me are very intelligent great academics...but I look for someone who will get along as a team and works well with others. Many intelligent people are loners and that isn't the best when it comes to a work force and people with new ideas. Getting on with each other for 8 hrs a day is very important.

As I passed them by, I heard one say to the other, 'Old school', which made me gently smile with amusement. Also, I remember being told, a long time ago, that a well-dressed man/chap, should always carry something, like perhaps a furled umbrella or walking stick, or even an overcoat. And if you needed to put your coat on, to carry your leather gloves or perhaps wear one and carry the other in your gloved hand.😊 I do this anyway. What do you think?

On the Nike's: I've never understood why people spend actual money on clothes that don't have any potential to benefit them. For people whose relationship appeal is more transient (few years), maybe it makes sense for novelty reasons, but for most men, I just don't see justification.

Red Grenadine tie, black wholecut leather dress shoes oxford style, white linen pocket square, dior elixir cologne, messenger bag (dont have attache case yet), black gloves providing its cold. fresh mints, slit back style of hair.
I should get the job alongside with being overprepared for the job. And im muscular too. Oh and my sports watch too. And to be shaved before the interview too.
I bliming hopw i get the job. I think I stand out due to being quitw muscular too. And the fact the clothes are fairly well tailored to my shape.
My shoes were very recently polished too.
Oh and will wear a winchester (contrast collar and cuff) shirt with subtle blue detail stripes, but primarily pale pink stripes.
I steamed my garments and removed any dandruff
My shoes are goodyear welted too and from Barkers. Leather bottom soles for that elegant sound.
No belt since trousers have side buckles. Its literally whay id call a 10/10 outfit. The suit was a luxury suit from Charles Tyrwhit. Im aware theres better brands out there that i couls get 2nd hand. But Regardless of that no one even at my place of work even tries to dress so well. Just standard boring navy suits. and just plain white or blue shirts.
