Don't Tell Mom is actually one of my favorite comedies. I remember back in the 90's, me and my husband going to the drive-in theater to see it with our young kids. Back in they day when you got a couple of cartoons, two features, and the dancing food commercial. There was also a playground and contests as well. On this excursion two other couples and their kids came too. We really had a great time, stretched out in our lawn chairs, children running around. But best of all was this movie! It was fun and funny! It's a really fine memory that I relive every time DTMTBD is shown on TV. Thank you Minty!
Actually, he's done more than that for me: he's reminded me of some great movies I'd forgotten about---so I opened a new window and ordered copies! Stay safe.
That's why I love this channel so much. I watched The Monster Squad with my ten year old daughter a few days ago and it was like I was ten again watching with her.

I can’t believe anyone was considered besides Applegate. She’s the only reason I went to see this. I saw this movie on my 17th birthday first show by myself with a big bag of Checker’s food. I was on top of the world and still till this day that was (for many reasons) one of the best days of my life!
Seriously! I know I do! SO many great quotes! I LOVE the way that toy section of the store looks and the supermarket when the kids were there, plus the grainy look of the movie...PURE 1990!
I would always remember when they played this movie on prime time back in the 90s with my brothers and sisters sharing a blanket and sharing popcorn while watching this and how cool it would be to have all that petty cash lol
@Felipe Solis :):) I love when the music starts up once she finds it! "Zach, I bought a pair of boots and a magazine! You bought a HOME ENTERTAINMENT CENTER?!" When I was a kid watching it on tape I always couldn't WAIT until I got the chance to run the house with my parents gone! Once I did, them going to the Midwest to visit my grandparents, I kicked butt:) Didn't get to go out spending any petty cash, though, but I DID get to eat whatever I wanted for dinner!
Well done Minty. Great wrap up as always. One thing people might like to know about Keith Coogan who you mention here as well as for Adventures in Babysitting - is that he is the grandson of Jackie Coogan, who was the actor who originally played Uncle Fester in the TV series The Addams Family, and Jackie Coogan was as a child the actual child in the Charlie Chaplin Classic 'The Kid'. So Keith is part of a lineage of movie history.
I think the plot of the mom going to Australia and the way they placed the house they loved in out in the boonies of LA somewhere had a very married with children in the real world feeling. They were a broken home just getting by, for me the honesty of that whole set up is what makes the movie really work. They are obviously the trashy house on the block and she can't afford to go on vacation with her friends. It's very very relatable from the get go. I love love love this movie

Thanks for paying such a great tribute to this film Minty. Nice Segway from your recent Adventures In Babysitting one. Cool spot on David Newman using the same style of synths, clicks & harmonica as he had done all through Heathers, although, what I noticed on this OST is that he had tracks in the style of his Heathers work, whilst also contrasting and broadening the sonic palette with more pieces that either sounded to me like they had elements/inspiration from Danny Elfman's work of the time & definitely John William's work from Home Alone. That might've been another reason critics felt it reminded them of the latter at times. :-)
The tomboy daughter in this is named Danielle Harris. She was also in "The Last Boy Scout" around this time. I have always had an unbelievable crush on her. And she's still hot today.
Loved that scene where they're blasting the dishes from a clay pigeon launcher and he say's "The dishes are done man!". The other scene is where the boy's in the car with his gf and the old lady comes out and say's "Time for little boys to be in bead. And time for young trollops to go home!". Good times good times..:D
One of my fav movies. I watched this as a kid and many more times as years went by. Thank you making this video. I wanted to be like her getting a job at a fashion company lol
As a child I loved this movie, still do. Being from the UK no one had really heard of it. My mum let me buy it at a car boot sale. I was like 6/7. I fancied Danielle Harris, already knew of her existence at the time through the Halloween movies. Man my mum and Dad let me watch all the R rated movies and my claim to fame was, at my local movie rental store “ Movie Express “ at 7 plus years of age I could rent 18 certificate movies because my Mum told the owner I watched them. And they allowed it. The only kid I know of in my town. The 90’s hey. It’s crazy I don’t even watch movies anymore, the futile movie releases of the last 10 to 15 years have killed me inside a little.
Oh Minty... If only you and I were teens together in the late 80's early 90's. We could have went to the dollar show together watching all these great classics. Went to the video store and found great videos to watch as we ate our Chinese takeout food. 💜💜💜😁
I saw this when it first came out on cable when I was 7 or 8 and not only found it funny, but quite smart with approaching attitudes and taking things like money for granted. It might be dated now but it's still amusing. As for the mom abandoning them for a trip to Australia with her boyfriend, well...crazy as it sounds, that's kinda how we got a stepfather later in the 90's, so not that far-fetched.
I saw this in the theater and we giggled the whole time. The dishes are done, man! My best friend looked just like Christina Applegate so we had fun with this and Married With Children.
I always think of that line anytime I have to wash dishes. I fantasize about hanging out on the roof with my friends, Remington 12 gauge along with those god damn dirty plates yelling: “PULL!”
I was four years old when this movie came out. My grandma rented it from the video store and we watched it together. Some years later, they had a special airing of the movie on TBS (edited for content, of course) and I taped it, watching it frequently after. Still years later, I would catch it on cable often (unedited). To this day, I still watch it once in a blue moon.
I loved this movie so much, and I'd almost that Keith Coogan played both Kenny in this movie, and Brad in "Adventures in Babysitting", both babysitting themed movies, funnily enough! 😂
I love it too, and I absolutely love how Kenny is like a complete 180 from Brad! I STILL wish Christina had been Chris, though, since Brad had a crush on her, that would've been EPIC:)
I remember when this movie came out and my friends and I went to see it no less then 5 times! We loved it!! It was the first movie I ever saw multiple times in the theater! It's still a classic!!!
He was the lead actor and I've always wondered at the end of the movie. It seemed like there was going to be a sequel, but it never happened. Then his acting portrayals became second characters like in "Hot Shots" with Charlie Sheen. However "Major League" would not be that bad either😂 lol
You are right on top of it, Minty. Revenge of the Nerds. Adventures in Babysitting. And now Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead? Please do Toy Soldiers next!!
I actually I liked this movie. Fun Fact: I used to watch David Duchovny, late night as the reader of the letters, in the Red Shoe Diaries. It used to come on late night. Tales From the Crypt on HBO & Red Show Diaries on Showtime
I remember watching this movie on tv when I was about nine years old. Yeah I know I was a little young for it but it strangely clicked with me quite well. The kids were an all such terrific characters. And Christina Applegate, smoking hot! Terrific movie! Great job on this review! Definitely need to watch this movie again!
I was spoiled when I was a kid. I grew up with HBO and this movie would play all the time on it. It’s one of those movies I remember every scene from. Great video of this 90s classic Minty
Ha, I LOVE this movie so much! When you want one that is a nostalgia GOLD mine this is it, the grainy look of it and all of the stuff in it from that amazing toy store to the food product placements to that supermarket to Clown Dog to that strip mall...Retro Junk would have a field day with it:) And Christina and Keith have AMAZING chemistry and Kenny is MILES above Spicoli as a hilarious stoner kid! I always felt so bad for poor Zach when they don't care at ALL that he was dumped by his girlfriend, and of course when Walter fell off the roof I can FEEL it! I love Sue Ellen pouring the giant bowl of Captain Crunch, Kenny mowing dirt while their friends help clean the house and his friend cuts his hand carving the ice sculpture, and of course poor Mrs. Sturrack having a heart attack from seeing Kenny's room! I love when the kids are watching Hollywood Squares (this is the Sun Light commercial: ruclips.net/video/E-K7VZeHJ8Y/видео.html), all of the montages, and Sue Ellen's friendship with Rose:) Gus being a troll and of course David Duchovny as Bruce! Whole movie is just awesome! But RIP Zach, though, poor kid died young from drugs! "Hey, isn't your mom going away for like months?" "Well, now, they were just borrowing your irresponsibility." "Oh, shut up, Kenny! I am in deep $hit!" "Sue Ell! You'd better get in here! Melissa and Zach are beating each other up over the last Snoball! It's the only food we've got!" Huge scream, massive crash, Kenny runs back inside:) "School starts in a few days. Lazy days!" "I don't know. I was thinking about going to class more. Taking some Home Ec, graduating...maybe go to the culinary academy or some $hit like that." "What was he doing on the ROOF, Kenny?!" "I don't know! I should've been with him! Reading 'Green Eggs and Ham' or some $hit like that!" "Help your brother. I can't believe this!" "Go to hell." "Dammit, Kenny!" "What's the job?" "I am the executive administrative assistant to the senior vice president of operations." "What the hell's that?" "I don't know." (I love how in this scene Sue Ellen's all ticked off as she's telling Kenny about Carolyn when Walter runs up to them for more money and she gives him an annoyed "go away" type of motion as if he's interrupting them on a DATE or something!) "Call the cops!" "Oh, yeah, what're we gonna say? Liza Minnelli stole our Buick?" "Wasn't even our Buick." "You're at the office all day doing interesting office things while I get to stay here cooking, and cleaning, helping Melissa with her fast ball, being a role model for Zach, spending quality time with Walter, doing your party $hit! You've got the car and you even don't take me anywhere anymore! And when was the last time we went out to dinner together, huh?" "I mean, I never asked you to whisk the couch." "Well...it needed it." "I've got a date with Sue Ell's friend Nicole." "THE NURSE?!" "MRS. CRANDALL!" "WHAT?!" "Mom's home." "Sue Ell! One more thing...WHERE is the babysitter?" "I'm gonna believe some kid. Go to hell, Gus." "Grow up, Carolyn!" "Mouse-brown hair, looks like she's chewing her face?" "Mama Celeste face-up, I go to work. Mama Celeste face-down, we're selling carnations on the freeway off-ramp." "She must've had it on her!" "Well, it's ours! Go back and get it from the old hag!" "Oh, yeah, what're we gonna say? 'Gosh, we left our money in our dead baby-sitter!' No way!" "She went to the YARN store! Yeah, she's crocheting this massive doily for the couch!" "Just copying it right outta the book?" "NO. I changed the name, and I'm adding some glamorous fashion STUFF." Kenny serves blackened Belgian waffles. "Doesn't look like Julia's." "Shut up, Quizzoid. Eat." "Sue Ellen, have you ever had a forty-eight-hour orgasm?!" "No, I've never been to Santa Barbara!" "Cynthia, you're my moon goddess." "Time for little boys to be in bed!" "Can't you see I'm in the middle of a date?!" "And time for little trollops to GO HOME!" "Time for little girls to dress like little girls! Sugar and spice!" Melissa flips Mrs. Sturrack off. "When our food's gone...we can eat Elvis!" "Elvis, I'm gonna make you high!" Kenny and his friends smoking pot with the dog. "Zachary! Where have you been? You're our maitre'd!" "Cynthia dumped me for Jacob." "I'm sorry!" "Get over it!" "Did you get the diamond back?" "Don't be rude to anybody, don't spit on anybody, and don't wander off because I want you to meet my boss." "Yeah, yeah, yeah." "And call me Mommy. Let's rehearse it. 'Melissa, come here honey!'" "'Okay, Mommy!'" "Good!" "I love that they're wearing our uniforms! Fabulous touch!" "What is your name and what do you do here?" "I'm Bruce, I'm head inventory clerk...why?!" "Well, Bruce, I'm an executive administrative assistant. And when I get those reports ready, I'll give you a buzz and you can run on up here and FETCH them! All right?"
I'm stuck here, cooking and cleaning and mowing. Helping Melissa with her fastball, being a role model for Zack, spending quality time with Walter, doing your party shit!!!! Classic!!!
It was so satisfying seeing the family clean up the house, the lawn, the pool, and the brother getting a really good haircut. It was frickin awesome.

Halloween 4+5
Minty! Dude, always groovy to revisited many childhood classics. Thanks for always being awesome and spreading some movie joy. 💜
I say "the dishes are done, man" every time i'm done with the dishes. I had forgotten were that came from! Thx!
One of my fav movies. I watched this as a kid and many more times as years went by. Thank you making this video. I wanted to be like her getting a job at a fashion company lol
One of my favorite early 90s flicks
I’ve always had a thing for Christina.
Who hasnt
😁
I ruined many a sock with her
@@danielkinn782 🤣
Every 80's and 90's boy had a thing for her. She is still beautiful. Personally find her more attractive now.
As for the mom abandoning them for a trip to Australia with her boyfriend, well...crazy as it sounds, that's kinda how we got a stepfather later in the 90's, so not that far-fetched.
one of my FAVORITE childhood movies!!
I saw this in the theater and we giggled the whole time. The dishes are done, man! My best friend looked just like Christina Applegate so we had fun with this and Married With Children.
That is cool. Personally, I appreciate those days. ✌
I always think of that line anytime I have to wash dishes. I fantasize about hanging out on the roof with my friends, Remington 12 gauge along with those god damn dirty plates yelling: “PULL!”
I frequently use "I'm right on top of that Rose" and end up having to explain the movie due to the blank stares I get
I just quoted, "The dishes are done, man" the other day. 😁
Came out when I was 17, I loved it then and I still love it to this day. Great video.
Now this was a dam flashback. I haven't seen this since it came out.
One of my favorite movies growing up. Still love it now.
Love it!! You keep sending me to my childhood!!💚🧡
I remember when this movie came out and my friends and I went to see it no less then 5 times! We loved it!! It was the first movie I ever saw multiple times in the theater! It's still a classic!!!
Haven’t seen this one in years,a classic.
That's correct Mark, we are all friends! Hope you are staying safe & healthy down under my friend 👍
Omg can’t Believe you made this video! Loved this movie! It’s so underrated.
Bro!!!! You're doing all the true classics. love it
I'd like to see a 10 Things "Hiding Out" with Jon Cryer another 80's Classic
YES! Also "Plain Clothes" - hugely underrated 80's cop in high school to clear his brother movie
He was the lead actor and I've always wondered at the end of the movie. It seemed like there was going to be a sequel, but it never happened. Then his acting portrayals became second characters like in "Hot Shots" with Charlie Sheen. However "Major League" would not be that bad either😂 lol
Also with Keith "The dishes are done, man" Coogan. Playing the nerdy cousin driving that awful Geo (I think?)
You are right on top of it, Minty.
Revenge of the Nerds.
Adventures in Babysitting.
And now Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead?
Please do Toy Soldiers next!!
Dishes are done man.
i still say that 30 years later
My favorite quote
i knew i wouldnt have to scroll far to find this comment LOL
i still say it when i do dishes also..
My favorite line in the movie!
I just did a 30 year retrospective with star KEITH COOGAN! SUBSCRIBE! ruclips.net/video/tp1W3QkYWKM/видео.html
I actually I liked this movie. Fun Fact: I used to watch David Duchovny, late night as the reader of the letters, in the Red Shoe Diaries. It used to come on late night. Tales From the Crypt on HBO & Red Show Diaries on Showtime
Don't forget Stephen Herek's greatest movie; the 2000 Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston classic "Rock Star." 🤘
One of my favorites. May watch it now lol
I was spoiled when I was a kid. I grew up with HBO and this movie would play all the time on it. It’s one of those movies I remember every scene from. Great video of this 90s classic Minty
I went to school with the guy who played Lizard.
MINTY!! This film , adventures in babysitting and Return to Oz....you are making me relive my childhood!!!!
I say, "The dishes are done man" every time I do the dishes.
Wonder why the "F" word gets used but they voice over Sue El calling her brother a "prick" changing it to "punk".
Yeah and you can totally tell what she said!!
"Hey, isn't your mom going away for like months?"
"Well, now, they were just borrowing your irresponsibility."
"Oh, shut up, Kenny! I am in deep $hit!"
"Sue Ell! You'd better get in here! Melissa and Zach are beating each other up over the last Snoball! It's the only food we've got!" Huge scream, massive crash, Kenny runs back inside:)
"School starts in a few days. Lazy days!"
"I don't know. I was thinking about going to class more. Taking some Home Ec, graduating...maybe go to the culinary academy or some $hit like that."
"What was he doing on the ROOF, Kenny?!"
"I don't know! I should've been with him! Reading 'Green Eggs and Ham' or some $hit like that!"
"Help your brother. I can't believe this!"
"Go to hell."
"Dammit, Kenny!"
"What's the job?"
"I am the executive administrative assistant to the senior vice president of operations."
"What the hell's that?"
"I don't know."
(I love how in this scene Sue Ellen's all ticked off as she's telling Kenny about Carolyn when Walter runs up to them for more money and she gives him an annoyed "go away" type of motion as if he's interrupting them on a DATE or something!)
"Call the cops!"
"Oh, yeah, what're we gonna say? Liza Minnelli stole our Buick?"
"Wasn't even our Buick."
"You're at the office all day doing interesting office things while I get to stay here cooking, and cleaning, helping Melissa with her fast ball, being a role model for Zach, spending quality time with Walter, doing your party $hit! You've got the car and you even don't take me anywhere anymore! And when was the last time we went out to dinner together, huh?"
"I mean, I never asked you to whisk the couch."
"Well...it needed it."
"I've got a date with Sue Ell's friend Nicole."
"THE NURSE?!"
"MRS. CRANDALL!"
"WHAT?!"
"Mom's home."
"Sue Ell! One more thing...WHERE is the babysitter?"
"I'm gonna believe some kid. Go to hell, Gus."
"Grow up, Carolyn!"
"Mouse-brown hair, looks like she's chewing her face?"
"Mama Celeste face-up, I go to work. Mama Celeste face-down, we're selling carnations on the freeway off-ramp."
"She must've had it on her!"
"Well, it's ours! Go back and get it from the old hag!"
"Oh, yeah, what're we gonna say? 'Gosh, we left our money in our dead baby-sitter!' No way!"
"She went to the YARN store! Yeah, she's crocheting this massive doily for the couch!"
"Just copying it right outta the book?"
"NO. I changed the name, and I'm adding some glamorous fashion STUFF."
Kenny serves blackened Belgian waffles.
"Doesn't look like Julia's."
"Shut up, Quizzoid. Eat."
"Sue Ellen, have you ever had a forty-eight-hour orgasm?!"
"No, I've never been to Santa Barbara!"
"Cynthia, you're my moon goddess."
"Time for little boys to be in bed!"
"Can't you see I'm in the middle of a date?!"
"And time for little trollops to GO HOME!"
"Time for little girls to dress like little girls! Sugar and spice!" Melissa flips Mrs. Sturrack off.
"When our food's gone...we can eat Elvis!"
"Elvis, I'm gonna make you high!" Kenny and his friends smoking pot with the dog.
"Zachary! Where have you been? You're our maitre'd!"
"Cynthia dumped me for Jacob."
"I'm sorry!"
"Get over it!"
"Did you get the diamond back?"
"Don't be rude to anybody, don't spit on anybody, and don't wander off because I want you to meet my boss."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah."
"And call me Mommy. Let's rehearse it. 'Melissa, come here honey!'"
"'Okay, Mommy!'"
"Good!"
"I love that they're wearing our uniforms! Fabulous touch!"
"What is your name and what do you do here?"
"I'm Bruce, I'm head inventory clerk...why?!"
"Well, Bruce, I'm an executive administrative assistant.
Classic!!!
I can hear his voice and inflection as I read that lol
I really love this movie I remember being so proud of christina Applegate's character " well I'll be dammed".
