I've always adored Elvira! Got to meet Cassandra once in Seattle about 15 years ago. She hosted a double feature of her 2 films and did a Meet and Greet with all the fans present. Super nice, super friendly, she just seemed to be having a ball, and yes she was in full Elvira costume and make-up for the show.
Cassandra is on of the most down to earth people, super nice and witty, back in 2010 I got to hangout with her for a full day in vegas as a friend knows her she is just as silly in real life as she is as Elvira .
She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet honestly. I got called up at Knott's Scary Farm to be a back up dancer for her stage show at the event when I was younger and she was the most amazing person to work with.
Her gag writer was her Groundlings friend, John Paragon. He also worked with Paul Reubens in creating the Pee-Wee Herman show and is best remembered for playing Jambi the Genie. When he died Petersen had his ashes. She and Reubens then had a fundraiser so they could inter Paragon in style. He’s buried at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and his urn is in a glass display case and is made to look like Jambi’s box.

And it’s a wonderful tribute to Paragon as well because, honestly, with that makeup and gold glitter and everything it could have been ridiculous. But Paragon imbued the character with such dignity that I don’t think anyone could ever laugh at him.

I was once babysat by The Mistress Of The Dark, Elvira while she was in character. I live in Colorado Springs, where Elvira went to high school. My friends mother and her went to school together and have remained good friends to this day. Back when i was 19 (1994), Elvira came to Cripple Creek, Colorado, to do an appearance, so my friends mom arranged for us to go meet her. The problem was that Elvira was appearing in a casino, and most of us were too young to get in, being only 17,18,19 years old. Elvira talked to the management of the casino and took 100% responsibility for us all, and we had to stay with her the whole time at her autograph table until she went on stage. So technically, Elvira was my babysitter for the 1½ hours that we spent with her.
A good reason the lawsuit Maila Nurmi brought against Cassandra Peterson wasn't successful was because even as early as the 1950s other Vampira imitations had already appeared across the USA on local television stations hosting horror movies. And during Elvira's heyday there were plenty of Elvira wannabes and knockoffs. Cassandra Peterson took it in stride probably thinking the imitations were a form of flattery.
Fun fact: Elvira and Stan Lee were partners in founding Los Angeles Comic Con. It was founded as Stan Lee's Comickaze Expo and they were the founding partners in the enterprise.
I had the same experience. I met Cassandra (not Elvira) when I was young. I was so scared to approach her because I didn't want to be "one of those". But I apologized for bothering her and simply asked if I could just shake her hand and told her I enjoyed her work. When I extended my hand, she grabbed a tight grip of it and said "Oh, come here, you". She pulled me in for a quick hug. SHE SMELLED SO GOOD! She does have the most beautiful eyes! She really is a classy person. I was star struck. I've never forgotten how she treated me. That is one of the highlights of my life!
As an 80s kid, Mistress of the Dark was another of those movies that we'd stop and watch whenever it was re-running on cable. I loved the idea of suddenly discovering I had magic powers and a shape-shifting dog. What kid didn't? LOL
I worked with her at a number of charity events and later was given VIP to her beer launch and her character retirement party. She was always extremely nice personable everytime I had dealings with her, even when frustrated. She never acted like she was above anyone. I still have a 6-pack of the beer, Elvira's Night Brew: full bodied and busting with flavor.

May I suggest you do a video like this on the Detroit and Cleveland area horror host from the past: Sir Graves Ghastly (Lawson J. Deming) of Sir Graves Ghastly Presents (from 1967 to 1983)? A lot of Gen X grew up watching his show on Saturday afternoons. He played an array of characters on the show and it was hilarious and fun for all us kids who watched his show. His program cemented the love of horror movies that I have had all my life. He introduced me to the greats like Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee.

When my daughter was 12, she was feeling really down. She said people didn't like her, she never fit in, and she didn't think she could be herself. I sat her down and we watched the Mistress of the Dark, and i told her the whole story of Elvira, the girl who put the Boob in "Boobtube". The self made, cultural icon who takes no crap from anyone and only does things her own way. The very reason I had such an interesting adolescence. And how she is still doing it 40 years later. I discovered her as a kid on my Super Mario Bros. Super Show VHS tape. It was a Legend of Zelda episode called Sing For the Unicorn. The live action intro was her guest appearance. Been a fan ever since.

I love Elvira Mistress of the dark, it's an underrated gem of a film. Cassandra Petersen has always been an extremely charming and gorgeous woman and is still a stunning lady today.

I'm just as enthralled with Elvira today as I was when I was 15 when the Elvira character was born.
When I was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, in 1988-1992, a coworker's husband worked at a video production company.
He told me that he had converted film and photographs to video for Peterson's family.
He told me that Cassandra was actually a redhead.
That's when I realized my whole life was a lie.
I'm a die-hard fan of Vampira, Vampirella, Morticia Addams, Lily Munster, Crematia Mortem, Ivonna Cadaver, The Lovely Tangella and Lamia Queen Of The Dark.
I'd marry ANY of them if they weren't fictional women.

There was absolutely nothing scary about Elvira, except how quick I'd be finished. Lol!
When my daughter was 12, she was feeling really down. She said people didn't like her, she never fit in, and she didn't think she could be herself. I sat her down and we watched the Mistress of the Dark, and i told her the whole story of Elvira, the girl who put the Boob in "Boobtube". The self made, cultural icon who takes no crap from anyone and only does things her own way. The very reason I had such an interesting adolescence. And how she is still doing it 40 years later. Snobish opinions, be damned.
My daughter smiled at me, gave me a big hug, and has never questioned her self-confidence ever since.

Haunted Hills actually had special screenings around the US for about a year before the DVD release. Sucks that it didn't get better distribution, but as a 60s Corman spoof, it was always more niche than the first movie.

She also had a cameo in the Burt Reynolds film Stroker Ace.
I discovered her as a kid on my Super Mario Bros. Super Show VHS tape. It was a Legend of Zelda episode called Sing For the Unicorn. The live action intro was her guest appearance. Been a fan ever since.
She's great. Charming, very funny, and of course (still) gorgeous. Good for Cassandra for taking control of her creation and continuing to keep Elvira a popular and lucrative pop culture icon.

Cassandra was a friend-of-a-friend apparently. She was friends with my mom's best friend prior to establishing Elvira.
Her original movie "Mistress of Darkness" was the best movie that ever came out. I tried to watch the other movies and they were WAY a step down. I love she's a culture icon at this point. I remember growing up with her through my life.
You should do one of these on "Rhonda Shear" and/or all of the "USA UP all Night!" series.
