Thank you for mentioning Seth's role in the original IT. I feel like not a lot of folks (even the most die hard SG fan) know that he was one of The Lucky 7.,❤️
@@mikef3790 Another fun fact: The song features performances by the late Rahsaan Roland Kirk, who was notable in the jazz scene for playing multiple instruments at one time. If YT hasn't taken it down again, try to find a live version of him performing "I Say A Little Prayer" - it's really amazing what he was able to do.
Those glasses were known as "NHS glasses" because opticians dispensed them free via the National Health Service to people who couldn't afford to buy nice glasses :)
another movie about nemeses? being simultaneously frozen and waking up in the future also came out around that time, Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes
Minty's accent always did remind me of someone; but . . . Austin Powers? How'd that happen? Is Mints a more "International" Man of Mystery than he lets on??
Great video! MTV here in America saturated their broadcasts with Austin Powers adverts in preparation for the premier, including frequent playing of Ming Tea's "BBC" music video. I thought everybody went to see it, because everybody was quoting lines from the film with that "British" accent 😀
now i have a sense of purpose for adding the australian version to a dvd collection, this series was a staple in my childhood, and mike meyers in general, classic
I remember seeing it with my dad on tv when I was a kid and LOVED it,havnt seen any of the movies in years now but for sure going to rewatch em now rofl
I remember before the movie was released me and a friend were obsessed with watching 4 clips from the movie they released on the web when dialup internet was a thing. We used to go around quoting the sharks with freakin laser beams scene before the movie ever came out. We were so happy the whole movie turned out funny ;) Thanks RealPlayer!
Myers also mentioned in the commentary that they wrote and produced the whole school marching band sequence in the streets of "London" before finding out that British schools don't have marching bands, but they decided to just leave it in anyway as it was such a good sequence XD
I remember when this was being put in the machine wondering what it was.... Didn't appeal to me, but thought I'd watch anyway... Blown away... I loved it. I was watching it my friends house with his family who are Australians...
when Austin Power 1 first came out, our local theater never showed it. It was a small 4 screen theater in Nebraska and we didn't get all of the new releases. by the time Austin Power 2 came out, I was living in Georgia, but still happened to not see the first. A date of mine wanted to go see it and I thought ok. But a lot of the running gags were lost on me because I hadn't seen the first, and I was about the only one in the theater who wasn't laughing. By the time I got around to finally see the first one, it all was just lost on me.
I absolutely love these movies!!! And as much as I love them, my wife hates spoof movies. Austin Powers, SpaceBalls, etc... So now I get to watch them to laugh, and about her. It's a double wide baby, yeah!
Is it coincidence that the first one was released the same year as Tomorrow Never Dies, the 2nd one released the same year as The World is Not Enough, and the 3rd one was released the same year as Die Another Day?
i didnt like the first Austin Powers movie and wondered what everyone found funny about it.. then I watched the second & third movies and started to get it & now I love all three.
I always remember the couple of days before my Real Estate exam my instructor told us all to forget about the test and do something other than studying. My choice to watch the second Austin Powers movie and I passed first time.
There's another little known fact about the whole Austin Powers series that you missed. In 1993 after So I Married an Axe Murderer came out Mike was doing an interview in the CHUM/CITY building in Toronto to promote it. It was a rainy night and the roads were still wet. Mike and a friend left the building through a back entrance and went to cross Richmond St just before the intersection at John St. They walked out into the road from between two large movie trucks parked on the right side of the road and never looked to see if there was traffic or if it was safe to cross... basically carelessly jaywalking. They stepped directly out in front of the vehicle i was driving and I barely managed to come to a stop without hitting them. Both of them just stopped like a deer caught in my headlights as my bumper came to a rest a few inches from them. Mike turned and have me two thumbs up and his classic meek smile. If it were not for my reaction and reflexes the world would have never experienced Austin Powers. You're welcome! BTW...Mike, Im still waiting for that personal thank you. You've never owned up to your carelessness or how terrifying it was to have the two of you just step out in front of me leaving me to think I was in the process of ending two lives.
Ooooh behaaaaaave, Minty ;) Funny thing all 3 Austin Powers movies were rated FSK12 in Germany. Because apparently sexual innuendos are no biggie over here.
i was in high school when this movie came out. nobody was really in to go seeing it. Then i remember i went to blockbuster lol and rented it. for u kiddos that was our netflix and chill. watched it with my gf and we lol through out the movie we told ppl to watch it and every one was surprised how good it was. yes it didn't take off til it hit VHS or u were able to rent it
Here's something that most people didn't know about the movie (Sadly) Joe Son who plays Oddjob was convicted in 2008 of rap, torture, and attempted murder on a woman back in 1990. Then in 2011 was convicted of murdering his bunk mate in prison. Glad that bastard is locked away
Hello Minty, I am not sure if this memory is correct because it was so long ago but I am pretty sure I seen the spy that shagged me first(not in theaters). So yeah you are right it took a bit to take off at first. Oh an as for gold member I didn't like it at first but it did grow on me. Mainly because of gold member quotes lol. Have a great day bud.
The Dr. Evil voice was said to have been created by his buddy Dana Carvey (Garth in Wayne's World) and was a spoof on Lorne Michael's voice (the producer of Saturday Night Live, where both Carvey & Meyers worked for years). For years Dana Carvey had a beef with Meyers for "stealing" the voice of Dr Evil, but it seems he's let it go in recent years. Meyers would say that they would usually improv for a "button", the end of the scene gag after the main plot of the scene was finished. For Austin Powers 3, Meyers would do his best to say the most outrageous improv lines to make his co-star Beyonce break character, she'd get harder & harder to break and Meyers would revel when it finally happened.
I loved the Austin powers movies back in the day. Saw the first one on VHS as it's cinematic run flew under the radar for me but when the sequel hit theaters I didn't miss the opportunity to see it on the big screen and laughed my ass off. By the time Gold member was out I watched it on my computer and in enjoyed it but it was clear the franchise was running out of steam and was happy to see it left at that. I'm glad they didn't run it into the ground as I can look back on it fondly instead of thinking "uggghhhhh just let it die already "
Well done Minty. I didn't know that Bond and Powers Franchise played well together. I had heard rumors that after Goldmember, The group who own the rights to Bond had sent a cease and desist order. True or false????
8:46 its a joke to the James bond movie where he's driving on the same spot and the aerial view shows an american road with double yellow lines. In the uk we have white strips
Same thing happened in the U.S. A handful of people saw the movie and loved it. They never shut up quoting it. So the small percentage of people who saw it in theaters actually wore everyone else down to go out and see it. It definitely took a couple years to be as popular as it should have from the get go.
Instead of The Love Guru, Mike Myers should've instead made that 1950s-style prequel of Austin Powers that he was at first interested in making. With Drake Bell as Young Austin/Young Dr. Evil, and Jude Law as Nigel Powers.
I always assumed that Austin Power look was also inspired by the character of Jason King, more around the teeth aspect. Michael Caine was also the spy Harry Palmer in 60's wearing those glasses
A friend of mine asked if I wanted to go see Austin Powers. I had never heard of it and it sounded like garbage. But I liked SNL so I followed along. By the opening dance number I was hooked.
Speaking of VHS releases...my best friend and I almost worse his out rewinding this scene over and over in tears laughing as kids. High School kids that is...01:14 👀
Funny... Austin Powers was big in early high-school for me. I remember my science teacher telling me to "zip it" when I was talking during class... my response was "look at me, I'm zippy-longstalkings" lol. What made it funny was that I'd been shaving my head for years... and still do, so the hair reference was stupid funny then. I guess probably not so much now that more people are shaving their heads, but was funny as heck then.
The U.S version cut all of the dead henchmen scenes. Only found this out after renting it on RUclips a couple of years ago. I honestly felt a bit ripped off. People never think how things affect the family of a henchman..
I thought that I read or heard that there would be a film about Dr. Evil ? Have you heard anything ? THAT would probably be pretty cool ? Maybe ? IDK ?
Ok how many people either thought or said out loud "Yeah Baby!"?! I think you should don a wig and cravat and be Minty Powers when covering the sequels! What say you groovy guys and Femmebots?

Minty should see the American TV version wherein they edit out "horny." They replaced it with "randy." Also, it popularized the term "shag" which Americans began over using when visiting Great Britain, which annoyed the Brits due to it being a curse word perhaps.
Michael York aka Bassel Exposition was in my favorite 70s scifi movie Logan's Run.

04:48 Wait Susanna Hoffs from the Bangles? I love they way you just blew through that with no further information.
He also never once mentioned the Mods, the British 1960s fashion trend that Austin Powers is based on.
Yes, he did.

It’s mentioned at 10:20.

Fun Fact: The Austin Powers theme song "Soul Bossa Nova" was composed and played by Quincy Jones for the first time in 1962
"Soul Bossa Nove" was written for the film, "The Pawnbroker." It was a scene in a bar.
@@mikef3790 Another fun fact: The song features performances by the late Rahsaan Roland Kirk, who was notable in the jazz scene for playing multiple instruments at one time. @Mike F might as well have called it "The Bank"...a scene in a government lobby.
Double fun fact, the piano player on QJ's Soul Bossa Nova is Lalo Shifrin ; who wrote the theme to Mission Impossible.
That song was also used by Woody Allen in Take the Money and Run.

Austin powers never gets old a great classic!!!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
it always reminded me more of "In like Flint"
The ring tone in Austin Powers came from "In like Flint". Which itself, was an earlier & more restrained James Bond parody. 📱 🎶
@@ghostrider88jinetedelfanta31 It was inspired by that ringtone, it was an homage to it. It wasn't the same ringtone.

They should do a new movie where its now almost 30 years later and he has to adjust again, and his clothes and slang are now extremely 90's
That is a killer idea
Which part of the 90s? Sometimes, esp. technology wise, they were almost two separate decades.
Awesome video! Austin Powers 2 is still one of my favorite comedic films but you couldn’t have it if they didn’t kill it in this first films.

Daniel Craig should play Vladimir Putin in a movie, also; we need another Austin Powers move.

Hey Minty, can we get one on Kids in the Hall? I thought they were hilarious. " I'm crushing your head!"

i have always loved these films. mike myers is hilarious
Still can't believe he left Dana behind. There were always a character he could've played.
Now I want to go to ausy land and get the DVD
You could get the unrated version in the US too. That was the version I saw first. Then was annoyed when every other time i have ever seen it is pg13.
Can we a take a moment to just wonder at the fact that Liz Hurley looks pretty much exactly the same to this day.
in the UK all 3 of the AustinPowers films were given a 12 rating

How can one get their hands on the Australian version?
Sean Connery wasn't the first James Bond. Casino Royale was the first 007 film.
