Fun fact in the original myth Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, she didn’t go there on her own free will and she was basically forced to stay there. She also cried a bunch and no matter how many gifts Hades brought her it would never make her happy because she wasn’t with her mother, and the same goes for Demeter. No matter how many gift or temples were built for her she only wanted Persephone. So it’s really funny to think that they demonized Demeter for being a good mother

tbf there's several interpretations of the myth and different reasons people have Hades take Persephone the way he does. iirc Ovid's Metamorphosis shows that Hades (or Dis/Pluto) was on the surface world to make sure Typhon (Typhoeus) wasn't trying to break out of his continental prison. Before he had a chance to make his way back to the underworld, Aphrodite (Venus) tells Eros (Cupid) to snipe him with an arrow (though I've seen 2 reasons for this: 1, She wants control for her and her son over the underworld since everyone becomes subjects to Hades once they die. 2 the alternative I've also seen is she thinks Hades is lonely and tells Eros to hit him with an arrow and he will fall in love w the first person he sees. In this one, I think Hades was just exploring the surface world to survey the area out of curiosity and then got hit with the arrow). Ovid's Metamorphosis (43 BC-17)
@@varsity.1 Facts ... Here, the most known story is that Zeus practically said "Hey, you want a wife? Have my daughter" All of this happened, and Demeter was indeed a good mother searching for her. But Persephone fell in love with Hades and depending (because there's no an actual confirmed one) she could or could not knew that if she ate the granade seeds she would have to stay in the underground for six months. This is a story I actually believe taking in count how it is related to other moths where Hades and Persephone both appear. But...I suppose it changes depending... That being said, lory Olympus definitely didn't make a good job with the "romance" if it was based on the "love story".
In the earliest story we can track, the part where we see her after Hades kidnaps her (at Zeus' command, mind you) is actually fragmented, we know that she's sad, but that's it. And Hades tells her to not be sad because as his wife she'd be respected and one of the highest goddess. This comforts her pretty well. (Though, the pomegranate seeds are Hades' fault. But the story makes a point to blame zeus for everything else. When Demeter searched for her daughter, she went to Helios and he said that he saw her get kidnapped, but told her that zeus ordered it.)
My breaking point was the moment Daphne asked Thanatos, "Why do you care?" When he was talking about her getting preferential treatment, and it was framed as this big Armor Piercing Question, where he is supposed to realize she's right, and he's a whiny baby. But like, he'd been working there since he was ACTUAL child, for a thousand years minimum, and this 19 year old girl is getting treated better than him in the span of like 3 days, because Hades wants to bonk her. I'd be livid man. It was the moment I realized that none of the characters could have valid negative opinions about Hades and Perse's relationship, and that they would ALWAYS be framed as ultimately in the right.
here's the thing, having people disagree and fight with your main characters is the most interesting thing you can do, for the readers AND for the writers. going out of your way to avoid that just shows how the comic is nothing but a insane power trip to the writer who has self inserted themselves as Hades' lil bimbo.
I hate how Lore Olympus demonize Demeter, especially considering how Demeter and Persephone are reflections (and also time pieces) of how Ancient Greek women were treated. Ancient Greek women were deemed lesser than men and therefore had little to no autonomy, especially when it came to marriage. A lot of women were wed off and probably kidnapped in the same way Persephone was by a man they didn't know or want in the first place. Demeter was a loving, protective mother, who was only ever trying to help her daughter. When the curse happened, she fought for her daughter's life and freedom and actually won against Zeus. And imagine that too, Zeus who was so powerful and scary that no gods really ever challenge him, and to have this mother go toe to toe just for her beloved daughter??? And they demonize that???? Nah man... It's not the big feminist move they think it is, especially when they completely demonize Demeter in the hopes of showing Hades or other male characters in a more favorable light ... that's a no from me
I want to see this retelling, where Persephone and Demeter get to actually be a happy family. Where maybe things are rocky, but ultimately they still love each other and Demeter wants what’s best for her. I want a retelling where Hades realizes his mistake, how hasty he was in going to Zeus and how messed up the whole system is. That he can have a woman who’s never met him simply because he asker the right person for her. But once you’re tied to the underworld, there’s no going back. You belong to it from then on, you’re a part of it. And I’d like to see a retelling where Hades regrets taking Persephone, recognizes her person-hood, regrets taking it from her by reducing her to simply being his wife. I think she’d come around eventually, but she should be allowed to be mad at what he did to her.
I feel like most people forget that Demeter is a goddamn Titan and Zeus's sibling. She's daughter of Chronos and Gaia at the same title than Poseidon, Hades and Hera, yet she's always so disrespected or just commonly unknown. She is known to be goddess of harvest true, but hells, it also makes her the goddess of famine. I don't think Demeter was a 'good mother', at least for today's representation, overly protective is interesting to write cause it borderline crosses toxic behavior, especially towards your child who's clearly outgrown the role you want to force upon them. I like the retelings that Kore becoming Persephone by herself, runnung away from expectations and finding herself falling in love/being trapped by it. Adds some grey nuances that while freedom is the one thing you seek when escaping abusive/toxic relatioships, it doesn't mean safe. There are also monsters out there, but I want stories telling about needing to fight the monsters out there, because right here is the bigger threat, that the unknown is and feels safer than where and who you live with. Also, I don't like Hades toxic behavior being romanticized, but I guess it's culture bias to do so. The beauty and the beast did it well in the original fairytale, in which the morale was to teach girls accept to marry older men without loving them back at first because while they may look monstruous, if you love them enough, you can fix them. And so on during centuries of patriarchal society women have been told to romanticize emotional, verbal and physical abuse, because it mean the guy loves them ! Happy to see much more content about how unhealthy this is, but there's still too much misconception and mixing up between romance and co-dependance/other toxic behaviors. Even more cringe is that the biggest audience for this kind of story are young teenagers with few to none experience about dating, and be with someone, super influenced to think that this is what true love is.
what makes me the most angry has to be the fact just how damn popular it is. i hate the fact that this degrading, disrespectful, lazy story is one of the faces of webtoon. LO should be used as what not to do as a writer. pretty colours and shapes can only get you so far

As someone who has never read this comic it weirdly reminds me of the situation with RWBY where it started off indie so people excused all the rough edges but as time went on and the series never really changed for the better despite the project being the flag ship for their respective companies.

I feel like the comic honestly just doesn’t handle Greek mythology with enough respect either. The comic is still based on actual mythos that had real meanings behind them. The entire myth it’s based on was supposed to be about Deméter and Persephone as a mother and daughter and is meant to comment how women had little power in those times, which was a big deal because it was one of the only things to do so. It sucks that the comic makes Deméter out to be awful for honestly having some very valid concerns to just push the ‘romance’ further. I feel like the comic could’ve been done well without throwing out the whole intent of the original myth, and should’ve focused on Persephone more as a character
So like it’s not a retelling of Persephone getting abducted, but I really like Hadestown’s characterization of Hades and Persephone. They have their problems but they do love each other. Hades is a bit of a hardass, Persephone’s a drunk, but it *works*

I also do not Care for Persephone in that chapter. Minthe was mean and Suspicious of Persephone being a homewrecker out to steal hades. even if we’ knew it wasn’t true. But Minthe was valid in her suspicious of hades liking her. And would cheat on her if Persephone didn’t set a boundary saying that minthe not deserving getting cheated on, but Persephone ended up dropping that rule faster than you can say Xenia. They try to portray Persephone as the higher person in most situations but when they show her wrath side, mostly they make her into a Hera 2, Acts like she is above others, anyone that foil or Challenge her gets punished. Her friends only exists to talk about her life with Hades. And ‘That Chapter’ Even tho Persephone has nothing to fear on Hades cheating on her, She still threatened this nymph who is not’ a threat to her. But then why do this? Because she needs to remember her place? Learn not insult the’ Persephone ?? I thought Persephone was supposed to be above acting free of consequences. anger and wrath because she seen first hand what the consequences led to living with the Greif and regret of her past actions. Also when minthe criticized Persephone, minthe was the bitch? When Persephone does to the nymp it’s fine ? Also when minthe was Jealous hades find it ridiculous and off putting. (Even tho she was right he was already ‘emotional cheating) When Persephone is jelly and terrorized a nymp that did nothing but flirt with hades. Hades think is the hottest thing ??!! Hera who calls Minthe Trash. And Hades never defended her, because… I donno!?, they never took the relationship seriously until Persephone showed up!? Sounds like I’m defending Minthe. I’m not. I’m only pointing out How you can contradict your writing of characters. How they can end up looking the same and acting the same. It would be fine if they portrayed these as flawed people. but No, the main goal for readers is always to root for Persephone and HAdes, have no second thoughts on how our Main characters affect people’s lives. Also you can argue Persephone has a wrath side she has hard time controlling sometimes. But she is not unaware of her actions she shown that before. (It isn’t a Dr Jekyll and Mr. hide situation it’s a part of Her. It’s just her) I’m just saying the Parallels here are kinda Not hard to miss.
My opinion I think it dropped off after it was revealed about Persephone’s acts of wrath and the set off the arrest for her. I mean it was cute the Art when hades found her and was worried. We had some great art pieces up to that point. But ever since then it feels like jokes and serious moments felt flat and became impassive. inpatient in the writing and unfocused in the art.
Persephone didn't created boundaries in regards of contact with Hades. She said "maybe we should slow down" while still hugging Hades Hades knew about Minthe being with Thanatos, also as soon as the relationship became exclusive she stopped his advances while Hades kept flirting with Persephone
It’s funny to me because this narrative so badly wants me to hate Minthe, but she accidentally is a way more interesting, complicated, and consistent character than either of the MCs. “The slap” episode only exists to turn the entire audiance against Minthe tbh, because up until that point she hadn’t actually done anything explicitly wrong. She was insecure about her centuries-long on/off boyfriend (with WAY more power and influence than she has, whose entire family treated her like garbage specifically because she was a nymph) having an affair with a LITERAL TEENAGER - something ANY adult woman whose long-term partner (whether is casual or serious) should have some damn questions about. She dropped her side-piece the moment he asked for exclusivity. Hades didn’t. She drew hard boundaries with people because she wanted to take her relationship seriously, despite her trauma. He didn’t give a damn about that. Minthe was actually trying, Hades never did. And the slap episode was the only way to assure that Minthe would be unforgivable to the audience so Hades would be free to chase after teenaged girls. Ngl it’s really difficult for me to not see Hades as a horrible billionaire predator who isn’t above exploiting the financial situations of his love interests to get what he wants out of them. He knew Minthe lived most of her life without financial stability, and leveraged that to his advantage. That’s called “financial abuse.” We shouldn’t give him a gold star for not robbing her of a home when he found a teenager who is also a god to bang instead, and yet him not evicting her is shown as this magnanimous, generous thing. Not even touching on the power imbalance between nymphs and gods, he was her BOSS. She had no power. It’s so screwed up. Also, hades bragged about using slave labor to make his millions, and Persephone doesn’t have a problem with that. So that says enough about both their characters imo. As far as Persephone, she was never a good person. Every time we see “cinnamon roll” Persephone, it’s literally only done to manipulate other people in her life into thinking she’s good. Nothing about her “goodness” is consistent or genuine at the end of the day. Minthe may be screwed up and had made mistakes, but I’d take a consistently troubled character over an inconsistent character Im supposed to believe is “good” any day.
As someone who is into the hades and persophone fanfic trope they should make Demeter like her in the actual myth but still make hades likable by not forcing Persephone to eat the pomegranate seeds is have Persephone accidentally eating the seeds and let Demeter look on how much hades and persophone love each other and do like a half a year thing. Also both Demeter and Persephone love Cerberus because he is a good boy
I actually did something a bit similar in a "Greek mythology modern AU" I work on on and off where Persephone and Hades are supporting characters (main retelling is Eros and Psyche). Demeter is a good mom (maybe a bit anxious about her baby leaving the nest, but not to an unreasonable extent), she just has misgivings about Hades because of his family's reputation. Hades himself is kind of a nervous wreck who is so anxious about ruining his and Persephone's relationship and being disapproved of by her mother that he does exactly that and "kidnaps" her (reads: he wants to go on vacations with Persephone but he knows she'll tell her mother and Demeter will disapprove, so he creates a convoluted plan where he claims Demeter will come with them and she doesn't have to plan anything ahead of time with her). Demeter freaks out over her daughter not coming home when she was supposed to, activates her network and, upon finally learning what's going on, starts a road trip from hell with Zeus and Hestia to go and fetch her daughter (Hestia being the driver and the only thing physically stopping them from killing each other). Persephone is shaken by Hades' deceit and they decide to have a pause in their relationship. She spends time with her mother, he spends time with Hestia and sees a therapist, and they eventually start dating again, this time with Demeter actually getting to know Hades and the rest of his family. In the end, Demeter is still a bit peeved, but she can see her daughter is happy, her son-in-law is behaving himself, and she has grown to like making pies with Hestia and talking farm equipments with Hephaistos, so all is mostly well 🙂
Lore Olympus has motivated me to try and eventually write my own version of the Persephone and Hades retelling but Persephone is the definition of a girl-failure. Monster energy drinks on the floor, her hair messy in an ugly way, and the horndog that makes everyone around her question her sanity.
I really liked it at first, and then... Trigger warning of SA, spoilers Apollo showing how awful was. You know the scene if you got that far. There was so much that gave me hope until that scene. It felt like Apollo would not get punished or like we would have to wait forever for it to happen. The cute friendship with Eros that and some other lil details that happened around that time kept me reading for a little longer but... It was soured and went downhill and never recovered from that moment. Not to say that you can't have SA in your stories it just felt... Wrong. The way it was handled, IMO. I know a lot of people hide that it happened, try to ignore it but. If felt like it was glossed over. If there was a payoff for that arc, i dont think its worth waiting for.
It felt for me like the SA stuff was just for Persephone and Hades relationship, they bonded over it, and the shock value. I think they could have handled it much better. It's just my Personal opinion but I am fed up with SA for cheap plot reasons or for the tragic backstory.

Dude, that stuff set me off in high school. Like- I understood it was a plot device but like- something *reaaaaaally* set me off about it and now I can recognize why. And I wish I didn’t go back to the story later in life, and like- I get that SA is a usual thing in the time setting, but like- it’s used to build up characters so much it’s like- huh???? It doesn’t feel like it’s about healing from trauma as much as shoehorning it in for brownie points.
I feel like the comic should have ended at the last episode of 'season 1', when Persephone and Hades finally got together after her banishment. To me that's pretty much when everything went rapidly down hill afterwards. It seems now like Rachel is just trying to drag out the story for herself, most likely for money imo.

There should not be 200+ episodes about Persephone and Hades falling in love and getting married💀All of the other episodes don’t even focus on Persephone and Hades. WHY ARE WE READING A BOOK ABOUT PERSEPHONE AND HADES IF 50% OF THE EPISODES ARE ABOUT HERA OR MINTHE OR SOME SHII. Can Apollo please just get punished for r-wording Persephone now? Please? I love how much the series wants Persephone to be “not like the other gods” because she’s nice to lesser beings, but the moment a nymph flirts with her husband she threatens to murder her.
I like the videogame 'Hades' take on greek mythology, I think it's one of the most accurate family drama about our era. I just like the whole message behind the whole story and how it just explores father/son relationship, romances, brotherhood, mother/son, daughter/father, nephew/uncle/aunt/cousin, friendship, toxic behavior and relationships in general. Just a great narrative for a great game. So hyped for Hades 2, we'll be seeing Hecate as a mentor and she looks so badass from what we could see, and see much more Gods we haven't seen yet.
Not to mention the huge age gap between Persephone and Hades. When they met, Persephone was 19 and Hades was 2,000+. It’s disgusting. I also hate the way that Persephone is drawn to look very small in comparison to hades. I get height differences and whatever, but Hades looks like he could be her dad. Hell, HES OLD ENOUGH TO BE HER DAD. And the way that Persephone is drawn as very skinny, with massive breasts just feels weird. I get it. It’s supposed to be stylized anatomy, but it just looks really really ugly. And it’s very very inconsistent as well. It bugs me so bad. This entire comic just bugs me so bad 😭

I tried to read the comic in middle school yrs ago and I think an early chapter hades takes Persephone home after some party and I immediately noped out and stoped reading the whole thing felt really weird
What rubbed me the wrong way about Lore Olympus was how the women constant get thrown in the background in favor of the men. All of Persephone’s friends (or at the very least the people she confides in the most) are men. They’re men who either have a crush on her, like Hermes, or have wronged her and faced next to no repercussions, like Eros. Aphrodite was also such wasted potential because as the goddess of love, you’d think she’d have more to do and say considering Lore Olympus is a love story. True, she’s the one who told Eros to get Persephone almost date raped, but the conflict of Persephone’s love for Hades despite home still dating Mynth, could’ve been a golden opportunity for Aphrodite to redeem herself by being Persephone’s guide for love. It would’ve been cool to have an older woman be a guide for Persephone since she’s still super young and never fell in love before. I would’ve hade Aphrodite approve of the romance, not because Mynth is a nymph and “of inferior stock” but because Hades’s love for her isn’t real.
I might be reaching with this comment but the treatment of minthe rlly irritates me. Nymphs and Satyres are coded as lower class citizens, and the way they are treated rlly pisses me off. Like hers constantly calls minthe “nymph trash” or called the satyr running the motel “goat man” like, it’s a really odd thing to add racism in the story, especially when hera does it, it’s seen as a girl power move. That brings me to the minthe plot. The episode before she’s turned into mint, she tells the story how her and hades met and… it’s genuinely upsetting. She’s a working class nymph who’s struggling to pay rent. She gets a job, hades takes her hat, and she doesn’t get the pay she promised *because* hades takes her hat. So she goes to hades, and demands her for her hat back, and extremely brave move to confront the king like that. And when she finds out hades pushed her away for a goddess, and emotionally cheated on her, she confronts him again and was TURNED INTO MINT. Persephone turned a lower class POC coded nymph into a plant, because that nymph confronted hades for treating minthe like the other woman in her *own relationship*
This series used to be easy to follow, but ever since Rachel started adding new characters and plot points that didnt need to be added, nor explored, it felt like she had no clue what the story was supposed to be anymore and was just stalling. Id wait for new episodes to come out, and I'd be so confused because the previous episode was almost always detatched from the current one and involved a character we hadn't seen in like, 10 episodes. It genuinely just hurt my brain to keep reading because the story and structure are just a mess and I couldnt keep track of anyone. It should've been a simple love story between hades and persephone, and that's it. The apollo conflict was kinda intersting ig but was pretty much swept under the rug, and STILL hasnt been resolved to this day. I think its been handled terribly, especially given the sensitive material. It just pisses me off that people continue to praise this shit show when it clearly fell off years ago. Im pretty sure it was originally meant to end after they got married, but because of all the other unresolved plot points, now its gotta keep going for god knows how many more years.
I think the effort was diminished because they later partnered with webtoon and you gotta have a good upload schedule for webtoon to like you And when you draw faster your effort dies down and it looks sloppy
This series was so bad this inspired to make my own. I wrote them and used stories of Greek mythos and I used youbra culture. I'm a black person and the nymph racism could have been good if they didn't treat it like it was okay. I had written that with classism and racism. Rachel I'm think has no poc on her team. And she not one herself. I'm fine with that stuff but have someone read who's minatory. Also writing (Demeter) Like it's weird to not write her as a good mom. Because of Racheal when I was younger, I had to stop my whole I hate Detmer and Shes shitty but when I read it made me think of my mom and what she would do for me if she was like. Even in my version she is overbearing but it's understandable. Like she works with gods she doesn't like or trust and has seen their behavior. The weird Idea that Ares is in love with P is dummbbb. READ APHO AND ARES. It's so weird to have them not together or a least thinking about each other. Like they're not perfect but come on. But if I wanted to be dicked over in rep I would have went to JKR. There are no poc characters and I think Racheal has said there are like artmiss. If I were to look artmiss she has no features. Same to the women and men of this comic. If your queer and poc don’t expect story written by woman who fantasizes about racism and paints it as write to have stand on racism. Twilight and Racheal have so many similarities with how they deal with racism. LGBTQ little next to none. There’s one in Racheal and it’s for a second. Then you have body representation. Same thing it’s hard to find when your chubby character changes. Then the one plus size character is there for 3 times and has not character. But there’s is nothing I could say is for people who queer, and poc and plus sized. I could go on how much representation she fail at. No one who read this story could feel as if they could have someone they connect with because the woman who wrote can’t think of anyone else but her self. You can’t feel represented if you can’t even find more than one thing to latch on.

Hey! (Unprofessional)Writer here! What mostly deterred me was the writing. It felt like the creator couldn't decide where she wanted to go. There is a lack of character goals, a lack of consistency, and a lack of a clear ending. Only reason I read it was because I was curious.
16:04 There’s a cohesive way to achieve this. Avatar the last air bender does multifaceted storytelling beautifully. Rachel instead uses character introductions and other stories the keep the the audience away from the point. She uses them as roadblocks to keep us from the main story because she wasn’t too sure what to do once she got the main pairing together. It’s just bad writing.
my own pet peeve of this comic is the character design being aweful, i can't tell a character from another and the badass gods are reduced into blob of colors that aren't even consistent between the panels. The clothing is boring af and dosen't tell anything interesting about the characters. For me character design is the most important part in a comic and they failed miserably at that - someone who loves making character desing

I'm a sucker for Greek mythology, I absolutely love it, especially all of the Apollo myths (I'm sure you can see where this is going.) From when I first heard about Lore Olympus, I immediately disliked it. It's just.. not it. I've never read it personally but from what I've seen it's so lazy and hardly even lines up with the actual mythology and seems to focus more on the romance rather than the main character(s) as a whole. The demonization of Demeter angers me SO MUCH and the SA situations in there are disgusting. With Apollo, how he acts in LO is NOTHING like how he is in actual Greek mythology (also why tf is he PURPLE?????) . It is so disgusting on how he was portrayed as well, and the same goes with Persephone and all of the other gods that are just not how they actually are within Greek mythology. I just hate LO so much.

I don't think any single specific moment that makes LO immidiately bad before it was good. I think LO had bunch of problems since the very start BUT instead of getting resolved LO gained even more problems to the point you can't ignore it even as a casual reader.

I'll be honest, I stopped reading it after Apollo came to pick up Persephone at the college. Like, I didn't even finish the first book. Hot take, but I hate they just casually put SA in the book and with Apollo of all people as the perp?! I would expect something like that for Zeus, Poseidon, Dionysus or literally Hades. There's a reason Apollo was a favorite amongst the greeks. He was a pretty stand up guy unless you pissed him off. If anything he was screwed over by the other gods. Zeus killed his son, Eros shot him with an arrow to make him fall in love with Daphne and shot a lead arrow at Daphne to make her detest him, the frickin wind killed his lover Hyacinthus because he was jealous. But the inaccuracy is not the only thing I'm mad about. As an sa survivor, he's poorly written! Apollo feels like a character a 13 year old would write just to be edgy. He's a bad villain. And Artemis is so fucking annoying!! Literally, both Hades and Persephone are written as characters who do no wrong and it is infuriating. Not to mention the "Born sexy yesterday" character trope really grosses me out. Over all, hated the characters, hated the way they handled serious subjects, and I hate the tropes.
@@aloozerontheinternet I personally like the Lore Olympus Rekindled series going on right now. That, at least to me, portrays both the victim and the perp in an accurate way. He's a villain which personally is still not my favorite. But at least his whole personality isn't based on "I did an unspeakable act now I'm twirling my villain mustache" he has more to him. I myself, plan on writing a plot somewhat based in LO but with a completely different story about the complexities of corrupt gods and moral greys. It's through the lens of a brand new god learning their family isn't exactly as good as they thought and they have to learn to break the mold. Sorry for ranting I'm just- ahhhh T-T

I always liked the art style and I thought the story, in the beginning, was going to go somewhere very interesting. But it just remained unnecessarily bland and aimless. LO took something as exciting and messy as Greek myths and made it into a “office scandal/romance” except more boring and disorganized. It wasn’t worth waiting for the chapter updates.

There is plenty of reasons not to like the comic, but to say that it's fully a corporation product is showing a lack of understanding of how publishing work. Idk how much Rachel earns at this point except that I know she is fully able to live of the comic. Say what you want about the product, but to fully be able to live of your own creation is rare. Hating on it really isn't this big fuck you to "the man" if that is what people think.

Fun fact in the original myth Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, she didn’t go there on her own free will and she was basically forced to stay there. She also cried a bunch and no matter how many gifts Hades brought her it would never make her happy because she wasn’t with her mother, and the same goes for Demeter. No matter how many gift or temples were built for her she only wanted Persephone. So it’s really funny to think that they demonized Demeter for being a good mother

tbf there's several interpretations of the myth and different reasons people have Hades take Persephone the way he does. iirc Ovid's Metamorphosis shows that Hades (or Dis/Pluto) was on the surface world to make sure Typhon (Typhoeus) wasn't trying to break out of his continental prison. Before he had a chance to make his way back to the underworld, Aphrodite (Venus) tells Eros (Cupid) to snipe him with an arrow (though I've seen 2 reasons for this: 1, She wants control for her and her son over the underworld since everyone becomes subjects to Hades once they die. 2 the alternative I've also seen is she thinks Hades is lonely and tells Eros to hit him with an arrow and he will fall in love w the first person he sees. In this one, I think Hades was just exploring the surface world to survey the area out of curiosity and then got hit with the arrow).

All of this happened, and Demeter was indeed a good mother searching for her. But Persephone fell in love with Hades and depending (because there's no an actual confirmed one) she could or could not knew that if she ate the granade seeds she would have to stay in the underground for six months.
This is a story I actually believe taking in count how it is related to other moths where Hades and Persephone both appear. But...I suppose it changes depending...
That being said, lory Olympus definitely didn't make a good job with the "romance" if it was based on the "love story".
In the earliest story we can track, the part where we see her after Hades kidnaps her (at Zeus' command, mind you) is actually fragmented, we know that she's sad, but that's it. And Hades tells her to not be sad because as his wife she'd be respected and one of the highest goddess. This comforts her pretty well. (Though, the pomegranate seeds are Hades' fault. But the story makes a point to blame zeus for everything else. When Demeter searched for her daughter, she went to Helios and he said that he saw her get kidnapped, but told her that zeus ordered it.)
My breaking point was the moment Daphne asked Thanatos, "Why do you care?" When he was talking about her getting preferential treatment, and it was framed as this big Armor Piercing Question, where he is supposed to realize she's right, and he's a whiny baby. But like, he'd been working there since he was ACTUAL child, for a thousand years minimum, and this 19 year old girl is getting treated better than him in the span of like 3 days, because Hades wants to bonk her. I'd be livid man. It was the moment I realized that none of the characters could have valid negative opinions about Hades and Perse's relationship, and that they would ALWAYS be framed as ultimately in the right.

I hate how Lore Olympus demonize Demeter, especially considering how Demeter and Persephone are reflections (and also time pieces) of how Ancient Greek women were treated. Ancient Greek women were deemed lesser than men and therefore had little to no autonomy, especially when it came to marriage. A lot of women were wed off and probably kidnapped in the same way Persephone was by a man they didn't know or want in the first place. Demeter was a loving, protective mother, who was only ever trying to help her daughter. When the curse happened, she fought for her daughter's life and freedom and actually won against Zeus. And imagine that too, Zeus who was so powerful and scary that no gods really ever challenge him, and to have this mother go toe to toe just for her beloved daughter??? And they demonize that???? Nah man... It's not the big feminist move they think it is, especially when they completely demonize Demeter in the hopes of showing Hades or other male characters in a more favorable light ... that's a no from me
I want to see this retelling, where Persephone and Demeter get to actually be a happy family. Where maybe things are rocky, but ultimately they still love each other and Demeter wants what’s best for her. I want a retelling where Hades realizes his mistake, how hasty he was in going to Zeus and how messed up the whole system is. That he can have a woman who’s never met him simply because he asker the right person for her. But once you’re tied to the underworld, there’s no going back. You belong to it from then on, you’re a part of it. And I’d like to see a retelling where Hades regrets taking Persephone, recognizes her person-hood, regrets taking it from her by reducing her to simply being his wife. I think she’d come around eventually, but she should be allowed to be mad at what he did to her.
I feel like most people forget that Demeter is a goddamn Titan and Zeus's sibling. She's daughter of Chronos and Gaia at the same title than Poseidon, Hades and Hera, yet she's always so disrespected or just commonly unknown. She is known to be goddess of harvest true, but hells, it also makes her the goddess of famine. I don't think Demeter was a 'good mother', at least for today's representation, overly protective is interesting to write cause it borderline crosses toxic behavior, especially towards your child who's clearly outgrown the role you want to force upon them. I like the retelings that Kore becoming Persephone by herself, runnung away from expectations and finding herself falling in love/being trapped by it. Adds some grey nuances that while freedom is the one thing you seek when escaping abusive/toxic relatioships, it doesn't mean safe. There are also monsters out there, but I want stories telling about needing to fight the monsters out there, because right here is the bigger threat, that the unknown is and feels safer than where and who you live with.
Also, I don't like Hades toxic behavior being romanticized, but I guess it's culture bias to do so. The beauty and the beast did it well in the original fairytale, in which the morale was to teach girls accept to marry older men without loving them back at first because while they may look monstruous, if you love them enough, you can fix them. And so on during centuries of patriarchal society women have been told to romanticize emotional, verbal and physical abuse, because it mean the guy loves them ! Happy to see much more content about how unhealthy this is, but there's still too much misconception and mixing up between romance and co-dependance/other toxic behaviors. Even more cringe is that the biggest audience for this kind of story are young teenagers with few to none experience about dating, and be with someone, super influenced to think that this is what true love is.
what makes me the most angry has to be the fact just how damn popular it is. i hate the fact that this degrading, disrespectful, lazy story is one of the faces of webtoon. LO should be used as what not to do as a writer. pretty colours and shapes can only get you so far

As someone who has never read this comic it weirdly reminds me of the situation with RWBY where it started off indie so people excused all the rough edges but as time went on and the series never really changed for the better despite the project being the flag ship for their respective companies.

I feel like the comic honestly just doesn’t handle Greek mythology with enough respect either. The comic is still based on actual mythos that had real meanings behind them. The entire myth it’s based on was supposed to be about Deméter and Persephone as a mother and daughter and is meant to comment how women had little power in those times, which was a big deal because it was one of the only things to do so. It sucks that the comic makes Deméter out to be awful for honestly having some very valid concerns to just push the ‘romance’ further. I feel like the comic could’ve been done well without throwing out the whole intent of the original myth, and should’ve focused on Persephone more as a character
So like it’s not a retelling of Persephone getting abducted, but I really like Hadestown’s characterization of Hades and Persephone. They have their problems but they do love each other. Hades is a bit of a hardass, Persephone’s a drunk, but it *works*

I think it dropped off after it was revealed about Persephone’s acts of wrath and the set off the arrest for her.
I mean it was cute the Art when hades found her and was worried. We had some great art pieces up to that point.
But ever since then it feels like jokes and serious moments felt flat and became impassive. inpatient in the writing and unfocused in the art.

Persephone didn't created boundaries in regards of contact with Hades. She said "maybe we should slow down" while still hugging Hades
Hades knew about Minthe being with Thanatos, also as soon as the relationship became exclusive she stopped his advances while Hades kept flirting with Persephone
It’s funny to me because this narrative so badly wants me to hate Minthe, but she accidentally is a way more interesting, complicated, and consistent character than either of the MCs.
“The slap” episode only exists to turn the entire audiance against Minthe tbh, because up until that point she hadn’t actually done anything explicitly wrong. She was insecure about her centuries-long on/off boyfriend (with WAY more power and influence than she has, whose entire family treated her like garbage specifically because she was a nymph) having an affair with a LITERAL TEENAGER - something ANY adult woman whose long-term partner (whether is casual or serious) should have some damn questions about. She dropped her side-piece the moment he asked for exclusivity. Hades didn’t. She drew hard boundaries with people because she wanted to take her relationship seriously, despite her trauma. He didn’t give a damn about that. Minthe was actually trying, Hades never did. And the slap episode was the only way to assure that Minthe would be unforgivable to the audience so Hades would be free to chase after teenaged girls.
Ngl it’s really difficult for me to not see Hades as a horrible billionaire predator who isn’t above exploiting the financial situations of his love interests to get what he wants out of them. He knew Minthe lived most of her life without financial stability, and leveraged that to his advantage. That’s called “financial abuse.” We shouldn’t give him a gold star for not robbing her of a home when he found a teenager who is also a god to bang instead, and yet him not evicting her is shown as this magnanimous, generous thing. Not even touching on the power imbalance between nymphs and gods, he was her BOSS. She had no power. It’s so screwed up.
Also, hades bragged about using slave labor to make his millions, and Persephone doesn’t have a problem with that. So that says enough about both their characters imo.
As far as Persephone, she was never a good person. Every time we see “cinnamon roll” Persephone, it’s literally only done to manipulate other people in her life into thinking she’s good. Nothing about her “goodness” is consistent or genuine at the end of the day.
Minthe may be screwed up and had made mistakes, but I’d take a consistently troubled character over an inconsistent character Im supposed to believe is “good” any day.
As someone who is into the hades and persophone fanfic trope they should make Demeter like her in the actual myth but still make hades likable by not forcing Persephone to eat the pomegranate seeds is have Persephone accidentally eating the seeds and let Demeter look on how much hades and persophone love each other and do like a half a year thing. Also both Demeter and Persephone love Cerberus because he is a good boy

I actually did something a bit similar in a "Greek mythology modern AU" I work on on and off where Persephone and Hades are supporting characters (main retelling is Eros and Psyche). Demeter is a good mom (maybe a bit anxious about her baby leaving the nest, but not to an unreasonable extent), she just has misgivings about Hades because of his family's reputation. Hades himself is kind of a nervous wreck who is so anxious about ruining his and Persephone's relationship and being disapproved of by her mother that he does exactly that and "kidnaps" her (reads: he wants to go on vacations with Persephone but he knows she'll tell her mother and Demeter will disapprove, so he creates a convoluted plan where he claims Demeter will come with them and she doesn't have to plan anything ahead of time with her). Demeter freaks out over her daughter not coming home when she was supposed to, activates her network and, upon finally learning what's going on, starts a road trip from hell with Zeus and Hestia to go and fetch her daughter (Hestia being the driver and the only thing physically stopping them from killing each other). Persephone is shaken by Hades' deceit and they decide to have a pause in their relationship. She spends time with her mother, he spends time with Hestia and sees a therapist, and they eventually start dating again, this time with Demeter actually getting to know Hades and the rest of his family. In the end, Demeter is still a bit peeved, but she can see her daughter is happy, her son-in-law is behaving himself, and she has grown to like making pies with Hestia and talking farm equipments with Hephaistos, so all is mostly well 🙂
Lore Olympus has motivated me to try and eventually write my own version of the Persephone and Hades retelling but Persephone is the definition of a girl-failure. Monster energy drinks on the floor, her hair messy in an ugly way, and the horndog that makes everyone around her question her sanity.

Apollo showing how awful was. You know the scene if you got that far. There was so much that gave me hope until that scene. It felt like Apollo would not get punished or like we would have to wait forever for it to happen. The cute friendship with Eros that and some other lil details that happened around that time kept me reading for a little longer but...
It was soured and went downhill and never recovered from that moment. Not to say that you can't have SA in your stories it just felt... Wrong. The way it was handled, IMO. I know a lot of people hide that it happened, try to ignore it but. If felt like it was glossed over. If there was a payoff for that arc, i dont think its worth waiting for.
It felt for me like the SA stuff was just for Persephone and Hades relationship, they bonded over it, and the shock value. I think they could have handled it much better. It's just my Personal opinion but I am fed up with SA for cheap plot reasons or for the tragic backstory.

Dude, that stuff set me off in high school. Like- I understood it was a plot device but like- something *reaaaaaally* set me off about it and now I can recognize why. And I wish I didn’t go back to the story later in life, and like- I get that SA is a usual thing in the time setting, but like- it’s used to build up characters so much it’s like- huh???? It doesn’t feel like it’s about healing from trauma as much as shoehorning it in for brownie points.

I feel like the comic should have ended at the last episode of 'season 1', when Persephone and Hades finally got together after her banishment. To me that's pretty much when everything went rapidly down hill afterwards. It seems now like Rachel is just trying to drag out the story for herself, most likely for money imo.
The funny thing is that the chapter where Hades ask Persephone to marry him has more likes than the marriage chapter

I like lore olympus, but that doesn’t stop me from complaining about it. It honestly feels like everyone who didn’t like Persephone and Hades relationship was demonized and degraded and it just was...ew. I also hate how the comic tries to make it seem like Persephone is this innocent little child and Demeter is this over protective mother who doesn’t want her child to get married.
I just needed to add more. I also hate how Persephone was like supposed to be the bigger person or whatever and be like: “We need to set boundaries! So you can’t cheat on Minthe!” And then immediately drops the boundary. I also can’t help but be filled with absolute rage when Persephone got special treatment at work, and everyone who got upset about it was immediately criticized and hated. I like the videogame 'Hades' take on greek mythology, I think it's one of the most accurate family drama about our era. I just like the whole message behind the whole story and how it just explores father/son relationship, romances, brotherhood, mother/son, daughter/father, nephew/uncle/aunt/cousin, friendship, toxic behavior and relationships in general. Just a great narrative for a great game. So hyped for Hades 2, we'll be seeing Hecate as a mentor and she looks so badass from what we could see, and see much more Gods we haven't seen yet.

What rubbed me the wrong way about Lore Olympus was how the women constant get thrown in the background in favor of the men. All of Persephone’s friends (or at the very least the people she confides in the most) are men. They’re men who either have a crush on her, like Hermes, or have wronged her and faced next to no repercussions, like Eros. Aphrodite was also such wasted potential because as the goddess of love, you’d think she’d have more to do and say considering Lore Olympus is a love story. True, she’s the one who told Eros to get Persephone almost date raped, but the conflict of Persephone’s love for Hades despite home still dating Mynth, could’ve been a golden opportunity for Aphrodite to redeem herself by being Persephone’s guide for love. It would’ve been cool to have an older woman be a guide for Persephone since she’s still super young and never fell in love before. I would’ve hade Aphrodite approve of the romance, not because Mynth is a nymph and “of inferior stock” but because Hades’s love for her isn’t real.
I had a super toxic "friend" who would abuse me because she thought I was beneath her. She kinned Persephone, looking back, that was sign to run

I might be reaching with this comment but the treatment of minthe rlly irritates me. Nymphs and Satyres are coded as lower class citizens, and the way they are treated rlly pisses me off. Like hers constantly calls minthe “nymph trash” or called the satyr running the motel “goat man” like, it’s a really odd thing to add racism in the story, especially when hera does it, it’s seen as a girl power move.
That brings me to the minthe plot. The episode before she’s turned into mint, she tells the story how her and hades met and… it’s genuinely upsetting. She’s a working class nymph who’s struggling to pay rent. She gets a job, hades takes her hat, and she doesn’t get the pay she promised *because* hades takes her hat. So she goes to hades, and demands her for her hat back, and extremely brave move to confront the king like that.
And when she finds out hades pushed her away for a goddess, and emotionally cheated on her, she confronts him again and was TURNED INTO MINT.
Persephone turned a lower class POC coded nymph into a plant, because that nymph confronted hades for treating minthe like the other woman in her *own relationship*

This series used to be easy to follow, but ever since Rachel started adding new characters and plot points that didnt need to be added, nor explored, it felt like she had no clue what the story was supposed to be anymore and was just stalling. Id wait for new episodes to come out, and I'd be so confused because the previous episode was almost always detatched from the current one and involved a character we hadn't seen in like, 10 episodes. It genuinely just hurt my brain to keep reading because the story and structure are just a mess and I couldnt keep track of anyone. It should've been a simple love story between hades and persephone, and that's it. The apollo conflict was kinda intersting ig but was pretty much swept under the rug, and STILL hasnt been resolved to this day. I think its been handled terribly, especially given the sensitive material. It just pisses me off that people continue to praise this shit show when it clearly fell off years ago. Im pretty sure it was originally meant to end after they got married, but because of all the other unresolved plot points, now its gotta keep going for god knows how many more years.

Since childhood, mythology has been one of my special interests. Thusly, I’ve had conceptual beef with Lore Olympus since the moment i saw it
This series was so bad this inspired to make my own. I wrote them and used stories of Greek mythos and I used youbra culture. I'm a black person and the nymph racism could have been good if they didn't treat it like it was okay. I had written that with classism and racism. Rachel I'm think has no poc on her team. And she not one herself. I'm fine with that stuff but have someone read who's minatory.
Also writing (Demeter) Like it's weird to not write her as a good mom. Because of Racheal when I was younger, I had to stop my whole I hate Detmer and Shes shitty but when I read it made me think of my mom and what she would do for me if she was like. Even in my version she is overbearing but it's understandable. Like she works with gods she doesn't like or trust and has seen their behavior. The weird Idea that Ares is in love with P is dummbbb. READ APHO AND ARES. It's so weird to have them not together or a least thinking about each other. Like they're not perfect but come on. Also, LO IS BASCIALLY WHERE PEDOS CAN FEEL LIKE THEY DID NOTHING WRONG WITH GROOMING. I had a whole argument with someone about grooming that even if she is an adult, she can be groomer. Grooming can happen to anyone it happens more to children but it does happen when you're an adult. College or work. (The person assumed when you turn 18 POOF grooming be gone!)

I had to look up lgbtq characters. There two and “it’s could be incest but most of mythology is”. To be honest there are many ideas of sexuality I’m not the to say but everyone has there own idea. But if I wanted to be dicked over in rep I would have went to JKR. There are no poc characters and I think Racheal has said there are like artmiss. If I were to look artmiss she has no features. Same to the women and men of this comic. If your queer and poc don’t expect story written by woman who fantasizes about racism and paints it as write to have stand on racism. Twilight and Racheal have so many similarities with how they deal with racism. LGBTQ little next to none. There’s one in Racheal and it’s for a second. Then you have body representation. Same thing it’s hard to find when your chubby character changes. Then the one plus size character is there for 3 times and has not character. But there’s is nothing I could say is for people who queer, and poc and plus sized. I could go on how much representation she fail at. No one who read this story could feel as if they could have someone they connect with because the woman who wrote can’t think of anyone else but her self. You can’t feel represented if you can’t even find more than one thing to latch on.
I like the art. But the story is too boring to actually read so i treat it as a picture book.

Hey! (Unprofessional)Writer here! What mostly deterred me was the writing. It felt like the creator couldn't decide where she wanted to go. There is a lack of character goals, a lack of consistency, and a lack of a clear ending. Only reason I read it was because I was curious.
16:04 There’s a cohesive way to achieve this. Avatar the last air bender does multifaceted storytelling beautifully. Rachel instead uses character introductions and other stories the keep the the audience away from the point. She uses them as roadblocks to keep us from the main story because she wasn’t too sure what to do once she got the main pairing together. It’s just bad writing.

I'm a sucker for Greek mythology, I absolutely love it, especially all of the Apollo myths (I'm sure you can see where this is going.) From when I first heard about Lore Olympus, I immediately disliked it. It's just.. not it. I've never read it personally but from what I've seen it's so lazy and hardly even lines up with the actual mythology and seems to focus more on the romance rather than the main character(s) as a whole. The demonization of Demeter angers me SO MUCH and the SA situations in there are disgusting. With Apollo, how he acts in LO is NOTHING like how he is in actual Greek mythology (also why tf is he PURPLE?????) . It is so disgusting on how he was portrayed as well, and the same goes with Persephone and all of the other gods that are just not how they actually are within Greek mythology. I just hate LO so much.

I got annoyed as soon as I saw the first trailer for it years ago and saw little snips of it having horrible anatomy, so I said nah.
Thank FUCKING GOD I didn't join that cult of a fandom. They didn't even mention how Zeus kidnapped and raped an 8-y.o. boy and made him so much of a walking fleshlight that his god status and duty is to protect kids from his fate. And straight girls call him the god of homosexuality.

I'll be honest, I stopped reading it after Apollo came to pick up Persephone at the college. Like, I didn't even finish the first book. Hot take, but I hate they just casually put SA in the book and with Apollo of all people as the perp?! I would expect something like that for Zeus, Poseidon, Dionysus or literally Hades. There's a reason Apollo was a favorite amongst the greeks. He was a pretty stand up guy unless you pissed him off. If anything he was screwed over by the other gods. Zeus killed his son, Eros shot him with an arrow to make him fall in love with Daphne and shot a lead arrow at Daphne to make her detest him, the frickin wind killed his lover Hyacinthus because he was jealous. But the inaccuracy is not the only thing I'm mad about. As an sa survivor, he's poorly written! Apollo feels like a character a 13 year old would write just to be edgy. He's a bad villain. And Artemis is so fucking annoying!! Literally, both Hades and Persephone are written as characters who do no wrong and it is infuriating. Not to mention the "Born sexy yesterday" character trope really grosses me out. Over all, hated the characters, hated the way they handled serious subjects, and I hate the tropes.
I can't speak on Apollo's writing, but I also hate how Persephone was written 😭 She had so much potential 😔

He's a villain which personally is still not my favorite. But at least his whole personality isn't based on "I did an unspeakable act now I'm twirling my villain mustache" he has more to him. I myself, plan on writing a plot somewhat based in LO but with a completely different story about the complexities of corrupt gods and moral greys. It's through the lens of a brand new god learning their family isn't exactly as good as they thought and they have to learn to break the mold. Sorry for ranting I'm just- ahhhh T-T

i think people forget that lore olympus used to be *one* woman's creation and it was a fun little story she was writing up until the fans demanded more and then corporations and businesses got involved, thats when lore olympus kinda went to shit imo... i still very much love lore olympus, i personally relate to persephone in so many ways, soo i get the hate, i know no one can be as beautiful and untouchable as i am .... sucks no one else relates..... I always liked the art style and I thought the story, in the beginning, was going to go somewhere very interesting. But it just remained unnecessarily bland and aimless. LO took something as exciting and messy as Greek myths and made it into a “office scandal/romance” except more boring and disorganized. It wasn’t worth waiting for the chapter updates.
I used to like it but now I hate it very much! I don’t like the way they portray the gods(Demeter, Persephone, APOLLO) it makes me upset if anything the game hades absolutely ate with the descriptions

Thank you! I used procreate in this video and a screen recording app I found. For my past two vids I used fire alpaca on my PC and just screen recorded with the program it came with. For my PC I used a xp- pen artist 12 pro tablet, and I used vllo to edit :)

There is plenty of reasons not to like the comic, but to say that it's fully a corporation product is showing a lack of understanding of how publishing work. Idk how much Rachel earns at this point except that I know she is fully able to live of the comic. Say what you want about the product, but to fully be able to live of your own creation is rare. Hating on it really isn't this big fuck you to "the man" if that is what people think.
I never meant to imply that LO was solely a corporate project, I just think that webtoon as a company could be why the comic suffers so much, I just didn't have the words for it at the time. But thank you for your comment bc it rlly made me think.
