- I uploaded a video on my TikTok showing some hazbin redesigns, and though it would be fun to go through the process of redesigning these character.
The original designs from the show are obviously not mine and are from Vivziepops Hazbin Hotel animated series on Amazon prime. Let me know if you want to see a part two of redesigning more of the main cast ;P

When it comes to Alastor, Vivziepop said he existed since she was 15 years old and I think that explains a lot. She never added more or less to his design as his character grew and developed. For example, the Creole stuff she may have just said either because she actually wanted that for his actual character or to sound more inclusive, yet it’s barely shown through his final design. So, thank you for actually taking the Creole, 1930s, and deer stuff into account :)

Tbh I always wondered why people were upset Al's design didn't "represent Creole good enough." Like, take a look at all the other sinners... almost none of them have any sort of hint as to their ethnicities - especially a lot of background sinners. And for example, I mean, what about a femboy spider says "Italian"? Lmao. Most don't even look anything remotely human, either.
That fits Alastor in a way when you think about it... Vivziepop got attached to the design she made when she was a teen so she won't upgrade it too much, and Alastor is all about not moving forward from his time period

Black is the presence of all colors. A perfect way to show Charlie's love for the rainbow without making her look like a mid 2000s OC(Though that lowkey would have been hilarious to see).
Edit: I had color mixing with paint/pigments in mind when I made my comment. To be technical, primary colors(red,yellow, and blue) is what can make black. When it comes to the color/light spectrum, it's actually white that is the presence of all color.

Actually, black is the absence of colors. None of the light in the spectrum gets reflected back towards our eyes when the object is black, in contrast to white which is all the colors present (because all of the light is reflected back from the object to our eyes). This is why white can be an overstimulus for our eyes, and why we can't see anything in the dark. I guess with black it's a case of: they are all there but we just don't see them :)
You are technically correct, black can be representative of the presence of all colors. But that only really applies to subtractive color models like paint and printing, where mixing all colors together eventually creates black and the absence of color is white. In additive color models like how light is understood to work, the presence of all colors of light creates white and the absence of light creates black.

I like how u didn’t stray to far from the original designs, it really feels like u were focusing on making small improvements instead of just changing the entire character design, it makes the characters feel more like them and doesn’t feel like a random character plopped into the cast. I feel like some redesigns do this. I really like them and I think these are probably the best redesigns I’ve seen! (Also your art style is so pretty)
I’m sorry but the way vivziepop took Charlie’s fit from the pilot and made her look EVEN MORE like a white girl in a suit is DIABOLICAL 😭😭
I mean, atleast she looks more mature compared to the pilot (still not the best design though)

My favorite redesigns here was definitely Charlie and Angel Dust. I didn't realize purple would fit Angel SO MUCH.. although I think another cool thing you can do is add patterns, Angel had stripes pattern and I think if done right you can add them back to the redesign in some way. Lovely video by the way.

BTW I LOVED THE REDESIGNS LIKE UGHHHH IF THESE WERE THE ACTUAL DESIGNS THE SHOW WOULD BE MORE APPEALING TBH (specially bc of the HUGE presence of red not only in the characters but also the background and it hurts my eyes sm)
I do think that one of the biggest problems for the show it how much red there is it’s just very overpowering
yeah it gets exhausting quickly in my opinion, i understand they want the backgrounds to be red for lore reasons but the characters themselves could use some diversity in palettes
i like that you kept the core idea of each character but added more context from the backstory and added a variety of colors to each design while still keeping the show's color palette. vivien's designs are eye-catching but they don't make sense and not only blend together but also clash with the background.

As an animator myself. The reason why we make our characters simple is because it’s easier to animate! Too much going on leads to a lot of work! That is why animating Angel dust is like a challenge! Hope this helps

I love the redesigns! I agree with you when it comes to them being a bit boring and RED. I feel like they could've had more interesting color pallettes like gold or brown or black with red accents. Also thanks for getting rid of Alastors ugly bob.

Hazbin has always been one of those love/hate franchises to me. Ive been around since the OG pilot and its what got me into art, but at the same time I can't deny that they fumbled HARD on some aspects

The thing still confuses me. I've seen people say a lot of theories like how she died due to her wounds & then was reborn or something, & that she tried to hide her identity as an angel by pretending her to be a moth demon. It doesn't help that in the show her hair looks even more like moth wings compared to the pilot

Adding purple to Angel dust looks so good. Plus, it makes sense thematically since it's the colour of lust (in the show at least), it's just so good.

Vaggie was such a cute little short queeenn! I loved her fit and the way the X on her eye looked a bit more pink then intense red. Love!
Angel looks like one of those 90’s goth baddies which really matches his personality to be honest. I love the purplish color you added to him and his little spider tusk things!
Alastor looks 100x better oml- he looks so different but AMAZING! I can finally tell bros a deer and a radio host you just NAILED IT.

The only dramas I've seen were an ex worker shitting on Viv and people saying Viv is sexualizing trans people, SA survivors and that Viv doesn't let other people hire her staff.
But all is debunked.
First, the person shitting on Viv was an asshole herself to people that didn't do anything (you can try search for it, idk their name)
Viv sexualising trans people was because of Millie's sister in Helluva Boss since there was suggestive merch.. but there was suggestive merch of every character ever so that's just people nitpicking. Trans people can be sexy too and stigmatising them doing the same as cis women had done for centuries is kinda shitty.
The whole SA sexualisation thing is because of Angel Dust.. but you have to be both deaf and blind to think Angel Dust is enjoying himself.. and of course it's sexualised- Valentino is literally the abusive boss of Angel Dust, whom is a cornstar..
And the whole "Viv doesn't let her workers get hired by others" is all because Viv and friend of hers agreed to not hire the same people at once due to young artists experiencing stress when they get too much work but also being determined to take on it anyways. It was ONE person that turns down people that work for Viv, not everybody in the industry.
There might be more and legit drama, but I'm not familiar with it if there is any, this is all I know.

(ram horns are much thicker than goat horns, along with having a more prominent curve--goat horns are shorter and slimmer)

If ur a hazbin hotel fan and ur scared people will judge u bcz u are in the fandom, don't be scared they won't they just judge the disgusting creepy fans as long as ur nice and friendly ur fine! I really love the show but i also don't support Vivize's actions, it's sad how the show's fandom did stuff like this and Vivzie did "those" actions in the past (zoophile and another one i cannot remember).

Edit 2: also i can see why ppl think the show itself is cringe with a lot of s3xu@l things happening almost every second, how the characters act, design etc etc. But remember this is only season 1 the show has potential to grow better! (even with the terrible fandom already forming)
I love the redesigns you did! I've noticed in the show that a lot of the details or "motifs" are REALLY subtle like there being a hoof pattern on the bottom of Alastor's shoes and I like how you just amped it up a bit. Charlie and Alastor are probably my favorite ones😊
My main issue with the designs is the clear indication that she does not do research for designing characters. She doesn't know color theory that well or basic coloring logic (no offense to her), she can't seem to get time period appropriate designs and her characters she claims are poc never look or have any reference to their heritage. Also I feel like Vivsiepop has never seen a deer before cause those are not deer ears those are straight up cat ears. LIKE GIRL IF YOU'RE GONNA BASE THEM OFF OF ANIMALS MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE THE ANIMAL THEY'RE BASED ON! Like I try not to hate the show so badly but everything about it just feels so poorly made, and I use to be a rwby fan, I know poorly made. This is worse than rwby imo. AND RWBY HAD FLAWS. MAJOR FLAWS.
Since I see the confusion about the ears, here's what's up: They weren't supposed to be ears, it was originally gonna be hair, but since the entire internet wanted him to have ears and the fact that she'd get crucified if she made the designs way too different.. it just went the way it is now.
Big thing people don't always take into consideration is the fact that those characters were popular for 4 years before the show.. changing their design too drastically could easily have backlash.
Also the color theme seems to be intentional, as all the reds are meant to connect the sinners design-wise.. which would be cool if the series wasn't mainly focused only on the sinners and angels. But in Helluva Boss we get to see the other rings, more angels and humans which makes this whole color palette connection more appreciateable.
Also that might be only my opinion, but if the characters were too drastically different in color palettes it'd feel less like they all belong in this place and more like random characters that happen to be there.. but that's just me
@@Emz_yelevele if she was able to change the design a little right before lauch she could have still done a little to him and fixed it. And if people wanted ears, she could have made them deer ears but she didn't. They're cat ears. Also that doesn't mean the designs are good. They're still bad and people can criticize them for being bad. Shes had these characters for years, change isn't bad and before the show was even going to be created she still had time to fix things. Also although you want the characters to be cohesive, you don't want them to blend into the background. Red accents or one or two red characters makes sense but every character having full on red, gray, and black in their design and that's it? That's not good. That's poorly made.
@@insertusernamehere3173 I wouldn't say exactly bad design, but mid is fair. Bad design wouldn't be that recognisable amongst people. The main issue is that, yes, there's repetition when it comes to certain attributes (e.g. sharp teeth, slim and tall body, "creepy" smile, red.) but gotta take into account they're also very different for the most part due to the variety of other attributes.
They deserve criticism, but ctiticism should also be considere, because I'm tired of critics throwing "bad" left and right.. if the characters are liked (and big part of it is the design btw) there's reason for it.
Changes would totally be positive thing tho, because I agree.. there's stuff that annoy me as well.
Also the "cat ears" aren't even cat ears.. they're just big chunks of floof😭
They lack the internal parts of.. any animal with ears.. which annoys me too, but seeing how harsh people are with Viv I see why.
It's easier to indulge the fanboys than satisfy the haters.. if there's this huge of a following it's understandable to try and keep the people already there for it happy.
@@Emz_yelevele if you believe they mid then that's your opinion, mine is that they're bad. There is nothing wrong with people thinking it's bad. If a lot of people are saying the same thing, maybe it's because there's an issue. Sure some people like it, but that doesn't negate the infinite amount of problems in the design. People calling it bad isn't the end of the world. Criticism is good and I think it's a fair criticism. Also already having fans doesn't mean there aren't things that could use fixing especially if even fans hate it. You should always try and fix and change things. Staying stagnant is bad.
@@insertusernamehere3173 that's true, change is good, but isn't easy to do when it's not simply a passion project anymore.. that's why pilot episodes were always meant for network executives and that's all. While Hazbin Hotel wouldn't have happened without its massive popularity and following online, this same following makes decision making very hard.. unlike animations from the past that weren't influenced by their internet fanbase, instead leaving people to wait and see for themselves later before giving any immediate impressions.. also yes, early episodes do that, but early episodes are also not the same as a straight up pilot.
And I think the designs are mid mainly because of the opinions I see people having. Personally I love them, but I see as much hate as love for them, so can't say they're exactly bad if it largely works.
Bad things don't work, mid things get through somehow.
