The style switch in Stayed Gone has another purpose that you missed. The switch happens when Vox's broadcast starts, the manic and energetic part is what he displays to the public. He hides his sinister side and displays the entertaining persona. Meanwhile Alastor continues broadcasting even through the sinister parts, he doesn't hide his evil, he revels in it. The style switch is used to show this contrast between Vox and Alastor, Vox manipulates and fakes being good while Alastor might also manipulate people, but he never hides his evil nature.
@@hanyoukimura He hides his intentions but it's not like he conceals his evil tendencies and violence from her. Pentious and the Loan Sharks that were after Mimzy can attest to that. That's what I meant when I wrote that he manipulates people but doesn't hide his evil nature
THANK YOU for not making the hotel a “plothole” it’s a very intentional thing, it’s supposed to start a discussion of who can and can’t be redeemed. we aren’t supposed to blindly follow charlie
Also, I think it would be okay even in-universe if not everyone can be redeemed. It's a way to siphon off overpopulation, and it's not as if the exterminations wiped out every sinner either. Valentino and his ilk can stay in Hell and marinate in their bad vibes for as long as they like, but not every sinner is a Valentino.
@@helenanilsson5666 that a good way to discribe it an di really like this video on hiw who knows abot the show flaws but he focuse on the storng part on why this is good and disney doing ummmm something wrong with the music and villain and hazbin hotel like it or not its still show how far they come .
There is also the fact that to be redeemed the sinner must want to change. Alastor made it clear he is not interested, The Vees also dont care. Or other Overlords. Or even those that are alies like Cherry Bomb or Husk dont care for redemption. There are so many nuances with the redemption plot. And that makes it interesting.
I get the feeling the people working on the poster, the script, and the songs were kept in isolation with all the parts being then given to the animators to cobble together.
I feel like Hazbin also did a better job with the whole narcissistic villain with a song better than wish since Adam is good example of a “silly” narcissist Villain (who has a catchy song) than whatever they where trying to do with the wish villain
They also seperated the “goofy villain” and “narcissistic villain” into 2 seperate characters, giving us 2 awesome villains with defined traits, as opposed to giving us one character with both traits but lots of inconsistency and a lack of actual villain behavior.
The fact that Hazbin made 'Stayed Gone' a swing jazz song when Alastor died in the 30s and Vox in the 50s is SO smart, it's like the style of music that was popular between the two eras in which they existed when they were on earth. You really can tell when something has passion and love behind it; it makes a world of difference.
Omg I didn't even notice that, the more I learn about Hazbin the more fantastic it is. A shame it only got so little episodes for season 1 and had to be rushed
It's true though. Hazbin hotel is so much better than honestly anything Disney can come up with...as long as their not taking from anime (Lion king, I love you but your Kimba in all but name).
@Passions5555 I know Stephanie Beatriz played Maribel in Encanto, Jeremy Jordan is Varian in the TV show of Rapunzel but I'm blanking on the 4th one..... Edit: sorry guys just now seeing the replies. Thank you for letting me know!! It's so awesome to see Broadway talent get the respect they deserve!! They can sing, act and voice act!!! Truly inspiring.
I must admit it’s better than most disney made but during their golden age they was even better but they had got like 200millions budget and the other idk but surely less.the hunchback of notre dame has the greatest vilain music EVER and an amazing story that come form on of the greatest writers of 18th century but honestly I love hazbin hotel has much but a little bit more the hunchback of notre same but disney did really good movies but the fact it’s for kids sometimes make some things that could be amazing just good like fight battles generally their better in adult shows than kids ones
Charlie's belief goes from "Everyone can change!" to "Not everyone can change, but they at least deserve a chance to try to change." Asha's belief goes from "Grant everyone's wishes, no matter how good or bad they may be!" to "Grant everyone's wishes, not matter how good or bad they may be!"
Exactly. Because nowadays, the disney protagonists have to have NOOO flaws and always be in the right so they can be more “likable” but flaws in heros make them more human and relatable, which is why people like them so much An example is Charlie’s sheltered nature, which is why she didn’t understand that not everyone can be redeemed. That’s just my take though.
Actually, it’s because of one reason and one reason only that Asha’s belief never changes. It’s because Disney wants to show these fake fantasies to minors so it sells. It’s all for marketing. Just put an unrealistic magical scenario and make the world look like the best place to ever exist, then boom. It sells. And it sells big time. Disney doesn’t give a damn to what the kids learn. Like most/all companies in the world, all they’re out for is money.
This is why I love episode 4 of Hazbin, not only does it prove that Charlie was right that someone like Angel deserves a second chance. But, Charlie’s interactions with Valentino makes her realize that some people aren’t worthy of forgiveness
It makes sense ones a series that has taken years to come to its full potential with characters painstakingly designed through real life experiences…and the other is a greedy corporate cash grab relying on nostalgia
I cannot express how much I love hazbin hotel. The lore, the fandom, the art style, the music, the details of little Easter eggs of past scrapped characters. Of course there’s flaws but i haven’t seen something that can pull so many things off
I rewatched it like 4 times pretty much immediately after watching it the first time and I like fully pay attention when I watch things. Tbh I fully thought I wasn't going to like it much, btu watched it because a friend asked me to and it does look really cool visually. I also initially got freaked out by the musical aspect, but now I really enjoy it tbh.
Finally, someone who sees the good in Hazbin Hotel. I feel like I was losing my mind because people were saying how it objectively sucked. Good to know there are other people with me on this
I was a person who didn't like it at first not like those dumb twitter stands but just didn't find interesting and made dumb jokes to my sister but she was was always interested in it even when the pilot came out and when it came on prime she was excited and on that day i came in her room behind her while watching and i just decided to give it a watch now i like it the plot, the charcters, and of course the songs so yeah that's what happened and now she has me and our mother hook on both helluva boss and hazbin hotel
@@Matthewgaming20 I wasn't into it originally either, but my brother was a huge fan. I'd watched the pilot and it wasn't my cup of tea, probably due to me being uncomfortable with the themes of the show at the time. But now I can appreciate them much more. Sad that other people just wanna hate on this show though
In general, an important joke is that all the main characters of Hazbin have their own signature style of music. This is especially noticeable in the song "Hell is Forever" - Charlie has the melody of a straight classic Disney (perhaps the birds will soon come to kiss her on the top of her head), which is contrasted with Adam, whose music is rock.
Yes, Angel Dust is pop music, Alastor is classic jazz, Husk is soul jazz, Vaggie is rock ballad, Carmilla is flamenco, Pentious is ballad(?), Velvette is pop rap/modern hip hop, Lute can be rock as well but her style is more like Evanescence which is gothic metal, and Lucifer is Tin Pan Alley/ballad.
Vivienne was very, very passionate about making Hazbin and Helluva. Indie shows are made out of passion, love, and pride. Big studio musicals are made for money.
Hell's Disney Princess upstaging real Disney princess will always be amusing. I'm really proud of and happy for Vivzi for sticking to her biggest wants for the show: it has to be a musical and the characters have to keep their core traits. She was able to surround herself with like-minded people who all had the same goal and loved the characters and world enough to do them well. I don't feel like it got enough episodes to accomplish everything it wanted to, but how much it managed to accomplish in 8 episodes is BECAUSE it's a musical. Music has a narrative function [normally] that allows a lot of information to be introduced and processed within a short time frame. I hope they get more episodes for season 2 because they have so much more to show us.
Haven’t even watched Hazbin Hotel, but just listening to the songs-I learn so much about the story and personalities of the characters singing them. Like that one song More Than Anything, which shows Lucifer is this guy that is clearly suffering some kind of trauma at having his wild ideas blow up in his face, with his angel family turning their spears at him and this single moment of soul crushing rejection and failure lead him to fear that his daughter was heading down the same road. But Charlie is this girl who found people she wants to risks it all for. And so the father decides to be proud of her for standing her ground. Or like that one song, It Starts with Sorry-Charlie is someone who is so open to giving anyone a chance that she makes the guilty guy cry, asks those around her to have empathy-to remember that they’ve been there before and would have wanted a second chance-and *succesfully* gets them to abandon killing the snake. And because of that, the snake get the chance to apologize and start the road to redemption. She has the characteristics of a leader, and the kindness of heart to change those around her for the better. Like it’s actually so cool how good the songs are at storytelling. I haven’t seen all the songs, but when there’s singing, it’s rarely wasted. The song and the visuals always tell something.
Wanna know the funny part? IT STARTS WITH SORRY ISN'T EVEN THE BEST SOMG IN THE SHOW!!! there have been many places where the songs were ranked, it starts with sorry usually doesn't even get that high of a ranking, yet it still tells the story perfectly for someone who hasn't even watched the show yet GODDAMN!!! And then there's wish...
That’s the best kind of musical (where the songs move the plot along) and I think the ones that AREN’T like that are the ones that make ppl say they hate musicals. Where they STOP the story so the characters can sing about something happening right in front of them that the audience already knows. And the song has no important character moments/new info in it, just a rehash of everything we already know which makes the audience wish they’d just shut up and keep going. It’s like if someone was reading you a book and every time you got to a good part they closed the book and made you listen to a 3 minute song before continuing
The solution is simple: hire songwriters who actually have experience in musicals. Like, thats literally what the problem was with Wish. The songwriters they hired had experience in writing for musicians, but not for musicals. And yes, there is a big difference in the general vibe of musical numbers vs songs.
Also they were only given three weeks and weren’t shown the script or movie. They just got a vague description of what is happening, which explains why none of the songs have any meaning and they all sound rushed
It’s hilarious that a animated show about Hell and sins for 16 year olds with inappropriate songs is wayyyy better than most of Disney’s songs and surprisingly most of the movies that Disney released, Hazbin Hotel is just goated
Keith David had one of my favorite Disney villain songs with “Friends on the other side” and then he had an amazing song in Hazbin Hotel with “Loser baby”. Do find it interesting that in Princess and the Frog Keith’s character was a guy that used voodoo, shadows, and was from New Orleans. And now his character Husk in Hazbin Hotel is controlled by Alastor who seems to use shadow magic, has little voodoo looking shadow puppets, and is from New Orleans.
Ironically series what has best villain songs today is My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. And I'm serious! This series is loaded with amazing villain songs, but tend to go under radar due to expectations. This Day Aria Say Goodbye to the Holiday Open Up Your Eyes Under Our Spell Unleash The Magic We Will Stand For Everfree The Midnight In Me All are top tier stuff!

Hell's Greatest Dad is basically a song duet of Genie vs Dr. Facilier in style. Even Alastor's colors during the song are bright pinks, purples and greens!
I despise musicals as much as I despise romance films and romcoms, but clearly the true reason on why Hazbin Hotel is objectively better than WB Studios and Disney is because Viziepop puts true passion into her work@@juliaboskamp9666.
@@Kayta-Linda And better than Miraculous, a show that Disney is focusing on rather than all their other better shows like Big City Greens, Moon Girl and Hailey’s On It.
I love how they basically changed Charlie’s core beliefs. Because we all have core beliefs but there will be times when those core beliefs will be challenged, questioned and even changed. And what I like about Charlie’s character is that she’s allowed these challenges, questionings, and changes which allowed her to develop as a character. And it’s okay to be wrong. It doesn’t mean you’re stupid or bad or inferior. Characters are allowed to be wrong and have flaws. In the beginning, Charlie is privileged, sheltered and naive about the world around her and that’s what makes her likable. Charlie’s core belief was that “everyone has good in them and are redeemable” but then it changes to “anyone can change but not everyone will”. Redemption is a choice and something you would have to want. And not everyone would want to. Charlie is right about people like Angel Dust and Sir Pentious being deserving of second chances but when she met Valentino, she realizes that not everyone is worthy of forgiveness or second chances. At first, Charlie was naive, but as the series progressed and her beliefs were challenged, she became wiser. And when the meeting with the seraphims goes about as well as expected (which not at all), and was basically her last chance to resolve some things, she is at her lowest and doesn’t know if she can believe in anything anymore. So then, with Alastors knowledge, the only other option left is to defend her home with all the weapons and allies she can gather. Charlie is also allowed to be scared, vulnerable, and in need of being lifted up just like how she did for everyone since the beginning. Charlie is truly an inspiration of a flawed character who is actually likable alongside the other cast of characters. Meanwhile, Asha’s core beliefs were “everybody deserves to have their wishes granted” to “everybody deserves their wishes granted”. This made Asha’s character bland and unlikable. She was never challenged with her core beliefs nor did she ever once questioned if she was right or wrong. In fact, Asha wasn’t allowed to be wrong or have any flaws besides “she cares too much”. Okay? And? That’s it? Hazbin hotel is what would happen if a Disney movie was rated R and you also have a Disney princess in hell which is brilliant.
I will say it’s definitely not the song writers’ fault that the music turned out bad in Wish. According to an interview they had very little information about the story and only two weeks to write each song. Meanwhile Hazbin had a much better pipeline and more time for development. So there was bound to be a big difference. Disney exes, you are the villains here.
Yeah. In constrast I heard about someone called to contribute to a Helluva Boss episode. They managed to write and PERFORM their own song! I wonder what the backstory behind that is.....
@@somedragonbastard Yes!!! That's him! I hope we get the backstory of writing that song someday! It'd be nice to compare it to the stories of the Wish songwriters!
Hazbin Hotel intentionally made you hate their Valentino character on purpose, while Wish had a Valentino character that was accidentally made unlikeable that people hated
Yes! I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed. A talking goat meant to be comic relief, yet ends up just being annoying versus a moth demon pimp who abuses his employees, and is intended to be a hateable villain.
HH managed to make all the villains cover different roles. You have Alastor who you should hate but like, Adam you who love to hate because he's so entertaining, Valentino who you hate hate, and Vox/Velvette who you hate by proxy but don't really do anything too terrible.
Magnifico could’ve been more interesting if they went with the original idea of making the Queen just as evil as he was. Imagine a Disney villain duet song.
@@TheBLBrothersso I guess u haven't watch obi one,the marvels, wandavision, doctor strange 2. All those movies and shows suck but they all still show women being villans.
@@Pelican07.23 Even Ursula in the little mermaid live action remake was allowed to remain evil despite all the attempts to downplay the evil with other Disney villains in the live action remakes. I may not be a fan of the little mermaid remake (and this is from someone who is usually more fair with some of the remakes) but it’s refreshing Ursula was allowed to remain hammy evil like in the original.
Vivzie made a better disney princess than Asha. Charlie is a strong female character done right. Yes she is naive and she just lets her people push her around, but that's because she's sheltered and sees the world in black and white and think kindness would fix everything. She acknowledges this and apologizes to Angel Dust for not realizing the severity of his situation. She is flawed, yes, and keeps trying to fix everyone else's problems except her own like husk said. The way she sees the world is different but her intentions are noble. Imagine being born in literal hell and staying kind and happy? We all could never
Totally agree. The reason no one likes Asha as a character coz she has no personality or flaws. The only personality that Asha has is her quirkiness. And her other flaw that “she cares too much.” Yeah sure Charlie does the same thing but it’s not annoying.
Right, I agree. My only issue with Charlie is that the show (and herself) both try to imply and *actively say* it is Charlie's destiny to be the leader of hell. Which it is, in a nepotistic take, but I found embarrassing that the MC proclaimed it was their role to be leaders when never did they show the ability to lead (literally every character got comforted by someone else) and didn't even learn anything to truly lead. Cannibal Town didn't even count because it wasn't about Charlie learning to convince people, but actually trying the same proved mostly useless singing method that "It never works" "But it'll work here", which is the only reinforcement that it is her destiny to lead others... Felt quite off that the season ended like that, but Charlie still has a lot of room to learn more things through next seasons while Asha will never learn anything.
@@Anonymous__S I think part of what makes Charlie's situation work though is that she clearly *isn't* ready to be a leader by S1's end. I saw the last two episodes as more building the foundations with her realizing and accepting that she's been forced into a leadership role (ready or not). Rallying Cannibal Town behind her is more a lesson of self-confidence and accepting responsibility than learning to lead or persuade. Corny as it is, both are fundamental to good leadership.
Yeah. Charlie is a woman with naive soul and doesn't understand her true strength. During the S1, the reality caught up to her; she has been forced awake from the cute protected sunlit garden. Now, she has to walk the path with mud puddles, broken glasses and deadly traps, on her own feet, if she wants to continue her dream. She's finally standing on the doorway of becoming a true powerful leader. But I don't see anything like this is Asha, she does now grow up. Rather, her childish motives are enhansed by the Star and are used like a puppet. You can see it the most when the Star comes down. It's really scary. The event at the Cannibal Town was, I think, done to teach her that people are different and require different ways to reach. Her singing didn't work for others, so she gave it up altogether. But Madam knew the residents likes singing ...impling that Charlie is careless about gathering information, the very first thing you need to do to convince someone. She kinda learned this with Angel but are still less careful and still isn't as much as she should be. Maybe it will come back to haunt her in later seasons hehehe. Also agree on the "lesson of self-confidence and accepting responsibility" part. She's a princess of hell, she's been saying that and she wants to act like it. So she needs to act like one when the time comes, and her preference won't matter then. The worst part of her is that she sees everything in rainbows with a twist of unicorns and candy rains. But in any case, very good show. I wish Alastor would step on me.
I think most people miss the message with Hazbin. It's like Ratatouille: everyone CAN change, but not everyone WILL change. Redemption is active choice. You need to WANT to change, then COMMIT to changing.

You hit the nail on the head - Disney has forgotten how to make a musical and relies heavily on nostalgia for past films to fill seats! Meanwhile Vivzie had to cultivate a fan base for a brand new IP and pay close attention to the quality of her product: as a result, she wound up creating a classic Disneyesque musical better than anything Disney has made in recent years!
You know you messed up when a controversial show about Hell and Demons is better than your safe and kid friendly movie about the concept of wishing. Moral of the Story? Take more risks. Who cares if you get cancelled? You're doing better than most out there by taking that chance.
Or… do not alienate your fans. For the longest time, Disney was the “conservative” one of the 3 major cartoon/kids channels. Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon would allow swear words on occasion, but Disney was supposed to be the most conservative of the 3. Also, they got too big for their britches and decided to deviate from their roots (cartoons with clear, black and white morals).
I'd say Hazbin Hotel has pretty accepted morals about redemption and if you look over the swearings and violence, its message is to me very consensual. The form is what makes it interesting and new but the message is overplayed. You don't need to go on trying to "trigger" anyone to get attention, you just need to make something worth watching.
I would say that most of the characters have their own style in their songs. Like jazz for Alastor, slut pop for Angel, disney princess songs for charlie, rock for Adam etc.
This is why I love indie animation. It’s so much better than the animation of bigger companies. I’m honestly disappointed by disney. It’s Hazbin that makes my life better! Thanks for this man! 😊 Edit 1: also I wanna say that musicals in the theatre production side is much better than all of these in my opinion. DONT COME AFTER ME-
I love how Stayed Gone is, like, mirrored. the second half of the song is like the first half just reversed, the only difference is the first half is vox's perspective and the second is alastor's, and I'm not sure I've ever seen a song structured like that so specifically.
This song is also somehow reveals human nature of taking all the good things for granted. This guy created his own kingdom, make it safe and prosperous (didn't look poor and miserable to me at least), and on top of that, he's even granting wishes from time to time, for free! And this is the thanks he gets...

"Be careful what you wish for" has been a common proverb for a long long time. The full phrase is "Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it", meaning that our immediate desires may not be what's best for us.
Disney got out-Disney'd on their 100th anniversary by an adult indie cartoon that's essentially about the invention of purgatory What a time to be alive
even though I have not watched the wish one think I understand about a musical is when its on screen people can connect with the person singing something hazbin hotel delivers while wish fails at doing so.
Really hope success of hazbin hotel & helluva boss gets more adult animation projects green lit. Wish felt so G rated made the Snow White running thru spooky forest scene look more intense.
the fact that this isn't even the first video i've seen that uses hazbin hotel as a herald of the rise of indie animation taking over the entertainment landscape... i'm also surprised that the sheer quality of the music didn't come into play, like idk wtf that magnifico "song" was supposed to be but it was grating and didn't have a cohesive melody, whereas the hazbin songs are very much in the disney _tradition._ especially "happy day in hell" and "you didn't know," they feel like traditional musical fare (and it probably helps that they got broadway musical alums to do the voice acting instead of just throwing big celebrity names like chris pine at the audience). there's a couple of clunkers in there - i'm not a fan of anything carmilla sings - but the overwhelming majority of the soundtrack is just banger after banger, they've got middle school kids who aren't even allowed to watch the show singing the songs. this adult animation literally stole disney's audience on music quality alone.
Exactly! Also, Hazbin has big names on it but they dont use it as a pushing point to get people to watch. It's more of a "holy shit i recognize that voice" when watching
@@Si1vercherryIt's the same as with Hazbin's sister animation Helluva Boss. As the series has progressed the production value has gone steadily up and they don't skimp on the voice actors. The season 1 finale had to be delayed quite a while because Ke$ha was voicing Beelzebub. The season two mid-season musical has several songs, one of them is a love song between Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice the musical) and James Monroe Iglehart (who played Genie in the Broadway production of Aladdin). It's absolutely delightful.
I love how you used stayed gone as the example, the whole reason it's my favorite song is because the difference in it instead of two people going together in a song they're against each other, and then it also has like what 2 or 3 different tunes, it also gives backstory and some in-depth of both the characters, it's amazing
For real Hazbin Hotel is a better celebration of Disney's legacy than Wish is supposed to be. There's a bunch like all the ones you mentioned but the one that's especially ironic is Lucifer. Disney scrapped all the creative team's ideas for the star to be an actual talking character in Wish for fear of him being too similar to the Genie in Aladdin. Meanwhile Jeremy Jordan said he used the Genie as his inspiration while voicing Lucifer, and the animators for his solo in Hell's Greatest Dad make nods to him too which, I didn't even notice ANY of that because of how unique Lucifer is even while directly referencing Genie. Seriously, I thought nah the Hell's Greatest Dad similarities are probs just surface level reaching till I saw side by side Genie and Lucifer use puppets, slot machines, and magically serve food while singing in a fake French accent. Like what a perfect example of paying tribute to something, and I already knew the golden fiddle was a reference to The Devil Went Down to Georgia too so it's fitting if Lucifer made other references
Now that you bring it up, it becomes the perfect way to properly put a nod to Robin Williams, who was a great Comedian, Singer, Actor and VA around. And a stand-up guy even at the end.
I see the similarities between the Genie and Lucifer and I like it, inspiration is not plagiarism. The characters did not serve the same purposes in the show, don't have the same motivations, don't have the same stories. I agree with you, even disney references are better in hazbin hotel
Vizie putted effort in her show because she was passionate about those characters, about the story and she spent the last of decade sharing this love with us,promoting it and she knows that we waited a lot of time for watching this show, and she busted her ass to make this show wonderful. Disney doesn't give a fuck about it's viewers, they already know that with every movie,no matter how much it's shit, they already know they are gonna get a certain amount of money.
Let's be fair, Alastor is the most terrifying thing in Hazbin Hotel. This guy strives to be at least disturbing in each of his appearances. If I had to compare him to a Disney villain, it would be Ratigan. Yes, I know, he's not the one we think of when we say "disney villain", but it's for a simple thing: Ratigan's motivation is to be evil. The first thing he does once announced as Prince Consor is to impose a tax on the elderly, children and the disabled. Alastor is the same: he loves being evil and savors every moment. Like the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors. Music here: ruclips.net/video/YoWom0CCRKM/видео.html Honestly, it's Alastor if he had become a dentist instead of a serial killer.
but Alastor is a villain. a great one, we can't even read their true intentions. we only know that he is bad and doesn't fears anything. he laughs at the face of the devil himself. literally.
@@waltermelo1033 I would argue he's afraid of whoever has him "on a leash" as Husk said, and also Zestiel to some extent since his appearance made Alastor nervous and he switched to his "best behavior" the moment the guy arrived. Aside from those two people, however, yea he just smiles and laughs at everyone else. Him poking and prodding Lucifer was hilarious.
Usually I can't deal with musicals, but Hazbin Hotel is just so great that I honestly didn't mind any of the song. Actually Stayed Gone is just such a great song I listened to it ON PURPOUSE, that's bassically unheard of!
My boyfriend saw it and thought I would like it, and I was like 'eeeeeeeh, a musical?' But I did watch it and I absolutely loved it - its got characters, story telling, and pulls on actual mythologies- and real villians/antagonists. Plus I just love 2D animation 😍
Honestly I think that's the most interesting "Classic Disney" thing Disney could come out with right now: The first Disney sequel ever to be leagues ahead of its predecessor not leagues behind? A movie that says the last one's wrong that comes out within a few years of the original? I actually... might want to watch that ....If they have musical theatre people directing. It doesn't even have to be for every song, there can still be some pop! Just give us a real Disney Villain Song and maybe one "I want" or "I messed up" ballad.
Actually, this video got me into Hazbin! I just wanted to see another person mock Wish, and didn't even care about Hazbin, but when I heard that "Welcome home," I was hooked. I decided to take the plunge, listen to Stayed Gone, and things spiraled.
I think Charlie is also really similar to Rapunzel from Tangled, both from the hair and personality. Both are really kind and naive, wanting to see the good in everyone. They even both sing about having a dream lol.
The thing that hurts me the most about is not that It was effortless...It wasn't the first time Disney did something without putting heart in It, and the amount of live action movies they made proves it. What hurts the most is this: this movie was made as a commemoration of Disney's anniversay, 100th anniversary. Very few companies could say to have reached a century of activity, and the film that has to resume Disney's career in all of it's glory... Is this. And this is the thanks we get
I cannot stand live action movies. There is no heart in to it. Almost every live action is basically the same plot: girl boss trope. Bland villain story and so much more. And making wish may be their wasteful potential.
@@Muna-Jlore0997What? Live action is just another medium. There is nothing good or bad about it. I'm not sure what word you were trying to use, but live action ain't it.
I just saw Wish, and frankly, I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like the animation was unfinished. And really, out of all of Wish's songs, only like 2 of them stood out to me (one of them was Magnifico's) mainly for the catchy rhythm they had, and I do believe that in "this is the thanks I get" it was meant to establish his more... greedy and power-hungry side, plus some scenes try to imply he's like that, on top of being a narcissist. I think him opening the song with him talking about his looks is meant to be like, "Why would anyone betray someone as handsome as me?"again implying him being narcissistic. Meanwhile, Hazbin managed to achieve so much more in only 8 episodes, and despite the flaws it may have, it actually had more impact than Wish did. Hazbin didn't shy away from just having evil doods being evil doods they're in hell.. for a reason, after all. In any sense, I thought Wish was just... ok. It's not the worst thing I've seen, but it's definitely not the best that Disney has to offer. It's just ok.
I feel there was not a single "ugly" or "flawed looking" character in Disney's "Wish", and in my personal opinion, that's one of the big overlooked reasons of what made "Wish" boring. Disney background characters used to look so unique and diverse, and the villains used to look so cool in design and had several traits in their features that exaggerated them being sinister, scary and even playful. King Magnifico being so handsome honestly makes me take him less seriously as a villain, if he was ugly yet confident like Yzma from "The Emperor's Groove" or couldve been anonymous by wearing a mask for most of the film, then maybe he would've had more charm to him.
@@torytellstales fr. Wish was so damn tame for it being Disney's 100th year anniversary movie. Marketed as a movie 100 years in the making, this is supposed to be a prequel to all the Disney movies. And it's just so.... mid
@dragoniccrab Right? I think they should've took a darker spin. Perhaps they couldve made the kingdom of Rosa's a utopia in only Asha's eyes and her "wish" is that she wants to get into this kingdom to cure her 100 year old Grandpa's illness, thinking this is where the land of magic is.
I think I know the reason that visual and music wise, Hazbin hotel exceeded *FAR* OVER what Wish could ever be. It’s because of the time they had to actually think of stuff and the production styles of each piece of media. How Disney produces stuff, nowadays is they get writers to write something, and then they just quickly make all of that into a movie, then releases the final product and makes merch over and over again. Meanwhile, Hazbin hotel wasn’t jumping from movie to movie over and over again, they spent a whole four years developing everything in this musical, so they had much more time to think about it then Disney did. Plus, they weren’t focusing on making merch for Hazbin hotel, the only thing they were focusing on was the musical itself.
I'd rather watch a show with a million flaws that people actually care about than a perfect story created as a cash grab by a company. Heart in a project means so much, and Hazbin Hotel is so important to me in that way
@@Someduudeit’s honestly weird how they went from oh we just a channel who makes fan songs for games to we are known throughout the world because of our banger songs and we got a song into a theatrical release and we got hired by Amazon to write songs for their new show
Minor correction. In the conflict between Vox and Alastor 7 years prior Vox won. Though the way it is phrased in the show is that he almost lost to Alastor. Which is still to say that he won... but it was close. Thus Alastor retreated but Vox is still scared of having to fight him again. He may have had help beating him from the other Vees. But I also suspect that he was backed by someone like Alastor is. That is I think someone has the Vees souls and is boosting their power.
@@spinedotlazuli1120k Agreed. We only have Val's words to go on and the absence of Alastor for 7 years. Val stating that Vox almost lost could have been bragging. But we do know that something caused Alastor to go missing for 7 years.
Greetings! I’m a musical theatre actor who has been training since I was 14 years old to become professional. I’m currently in numerous productions and conservatory (aka professional theatre college) I appreciate videos like this which point out a few things about how the musical genre works. Musicals are a story told through music and acting and ironically a lot of people forget that. Songs have a purpose otherwise they aren’t included because of time. Every song either is supposed to be a character driven song aka a song where we hear a characters personality/wishes and desires and goals, or a plot driven song, a song that drives the plot forwards and established key details or motifs. Only rarely do you have songs like “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast which is a showstopper fun number. I haven’t seen Wish but I definitely have checked out the music, and I genuinely feel disappointed. Magnifico genuinely in his song depressed me so much I had to take a moment to sit in silence to process what was really being projected into my eardrums. Villains typically get “I Am” songs, songs that establish them as a villain without diving deep too much into their wants or desires because that makes them more 2D and therefore harder to relate to. It helps flesh out the protagonist in comparison. But Magnifico’s song is so entirely bland and establishes what we supposedly already know and repeats so many times that it’s not innovative enough to actually establish his character all that well. It also doesn’t show off what he’s like as a threat. If we look at Poor Unfortunate Souls for an example, we get that Ursula is evil. We see that. And we generally know her deal before the song. However, the song illustrates how dangerous she is, how cunning she is, her mastery of manipulation which is a common thread from that moment onwards in the story and is key to the climax where we have the final fight. Magnifico just seems like some guy…almost as if they wanted him to be quirky like Asha but terrifying and imposing and couldn’t seem to pick so they waffled back and forth. What we’re left with is nothing because it doesn’t enhance anything so we’re right back where we started. You could cut the song entirely and you’d still be left with knowing what kind of person Magnifico is and what “threat” he poses. 😂😭
This comment is pure facts. King Magnifico's villain song's only purpose is to tell you how soulless and badly written the villain is. Where did the budget even go?
Hazbin is a Broadway musical. A lot of the cast have Broadway or theater backgrounds and it shows in how the songs are meant to move the plot forward. Wish's songs were written by pop writers. They're not concerned with plot. Wish is not quite a jukebox musical but it really feels like it is getting close
I feel sorry for the song writer. They didn't even let her see the movie beforehand and now all the internet is laughing at her. Yes the songs are hot garbage but what potential she might have had to make them better, disney took away
One thing that makes hazbin hotel character design awesome in my eyes is that each character has an alignment they follow Like charlie is chaotic good, vagi’s lawful neutral, alastor’s lawful chaotic (follow’s a code but no one can tell what in h*ll it is) While other shows don’t seem to go as in depth with the designs and allignments, like how you mentioned that you couldn’t tell if the dude was a jock who needed help or a maniac who needed to be beaten Just makes hazbin hotel feel more real and engaging to me
we are seeing the collapse of AAA production. in both Movies, Series and Video Games. it's kinda fascinating how desensitized these productions are... how under so much corporate junk... none in these companies can find what they lost...
@@Muna-Jlore0997 and the sad thing is that Hazbin still tops that with More Than Anything. Used in two types of love songs. First is between father and daughter. And later between a couple. Wish used it with people and their own wishes.

It makes me so happy how hazbin hotel is made with so much love and it is easy to notice in the series, even the voice actors enjoy a lot to be part of the show and have a "connection" with the characters they play. I've seen the cast meetings and it's so nice how they get along so well and it's noticeable how they love the project
I actually remember finishing hazbin hotel first season and thinking to myself what the fuck Disney? The billion dollar giant that pioneered this industry of animation and musicals, and they spectacularly dropped the ball. The ball didn’t even touch any air. It went straight from their hands and teleported into the ground.
The main drawback I find with Hazbin Hotel is that they weren't given enough time. A series with a planned 16 episodes in the first season were only given eight, with a decidedly short runtime (the actual episodes lasted 20 minutes, not even up to the normal 24). Almost every single gosh darned problem the show has could be solved with double the runtime. The show runners, cast, animators, everyone working on the show showed they could do it with a genuinely hooking first season with less time than most modern films. The second season will be great, and hopefully they'll be given more time to breathe inbetween story arcs.

Asha's belief goes from "Grant everyone's wishes, no matter how good or bad they may be!" to "Grant everyone's wishes, not matter how good or bad they may be!"
Exactly. Because nowadays, the disney protagonists have to have NOOO flaws and always be in the right so they can be more “likable” but flaws in heros make them more human and relatable, which is why people like them so much
An example is Charlie’s sheltered nature, which is why she didn’t understand that not everyone can be redeemed.
That’s just my take though.
Asha developed a T to the no matter after the entire movie.
Actually, it’s because of one reason and one reason only that Asha’s belief never changes. It’s because Disney wants to show these fake fantasies to minors so it sells. It’s all for marketing. I don't feel like it got enough episodes to accomplish everything it wanted to, but how much it managed to accomplish in 8 episodes is BECAUSE it's a musical.

Where they STOP the story so the characters can sing about something happening right in front of them that the audience already knows. And the song has no important character moments/new info in it, just a rehash of everything we already know which makes the audience wish they’d just shut up and keep going.
Okay? And? That’s it?

I will say it’s definitely not the song writers’ fault that the music turned out bad in Wish. So there was bound to be a big difference.

@@CixzagI call dat B freaking S. Elemental has a love story and it was cute. And Hazbin hotel has romance in it too.
Corny as it is, both are fundamental to good leadership.
i think she sees in NOT in black and white
I wish Alastor would step on me.

the fact that this isn't even the first video i've seen that uses hazbin hotel as a herald of the rise of indie animation taking over the entertainment landscape... i'm also surprised that the sheer quality of the music didn't come into play, like idk wtf that magnifico "song" was supposed to be but it was grating and didn't have a cohesive melody, whereas the hazbin songs are very much in the disney _tradition._ especially "happy day in hell" and "you didn't know," they feel like traditional musical fare (and it probably helps that they got broadway musical alums to do the voice acting instead of just throwing big celebrity names like chris pine at the audience). there's a couple of clunkers in there - i'm not a fan of anything carmilla sings - but the overwhelming majority of the soundtrack is just banger after banger, they've got middle school kids who aren't even allowed to watch the show singing the songs. this adult animation literally stole disney's audience on music quality alone.
@@BrokensoulRiderTen years later, and Robin Williams’ death still hurts.
Robin Williams must be very proud.

Plus if I remember right thx to the company they teamed up with it let’s them get hazbin out while helluva takes a while
I'd rather watch a show with a million flaws that people actually care about than a perfect story created as a cash grab by a company. Heart in a project means so much, and Hazbin Hotel is so important to me in that way

King Magnifico - Charismatic, yet awful king
Alastor - Horrifying, yet fascinating radio host
Hazbin is a Broadway musical. A lot of the cast have Broadway or theater backgrounds and it shows in how the songs are meant to move the plot forward.
Wish's songs were written by pop writers. They're not concerned with plot. Wish is not quite a jukebox musical but it really feels like it is getting close
I’m a huge fan of musical broadways. Wish on the other hand… why?? Yes, there are a few modern pop music in Hazbin hotel but it’s not out of place.
I feel sorry for the song writer. They didn't even let her see the movie beforehand and now all the internet is laughing at her. Yes the songs are hot garbage but what potential she might have had to make them better, disney took away
One thing that makes hazbin hotel character design awesome in my eyes is that each character has an alignment they follow
Like charlie is chaotic good, vagi’s lawful neutral, alastor’s lawful chaotic (follow’s a code but no one can tell what in h*ll it is)
While other shows don’t seem to go as in depth with the designs and allignments, like how you mentioned that you couldn’t tell if the dude was a jock who needed help or a maniac who needed to be beaten
Just makes hazbin hotel feel more real and engaging to me
we are seeing the collapse of AAA production. in both Movies, Series and Video Games. it's kinda fascinating how desensitized these productions are... how under so much corporate junk... none in these companies can find what they lost...
I know that Hazbin Hotel had better songs than Wish
The only song I remembered in wish is At All Cost. It’s a love song. They couldn’t even allow that.
The only songs on the soundtrack that I liked enough to buy on iTunes are “This Is the Thanks I Get?!” and “At All Costs”.
@@Muna-Jlore0997 and the sad thing is that Hazbin still tops that with More Than Anything. Used in two types of love songs. First is between father and daughter. And later between a couple.
Wish used it with people and their own wishes.

I personally thought that the style change in Stayed Gone was supposed to show that even though Vox is evil(or tires to be) behind closed doors, he has to be apealing to the public eye to keep up his reputation and in order not to lose his viewers' trust and respect
It’s kinda both. In a way it’s displaying his personality while also connecting to the story
Ain't nobody gonna talk about Poison?? That is a masterpiece. Only We don't talk about Bruno managed to stay in my mind that long but Angel dust's Poison has me on thr floor

Disney 'wishes' (haha) it could have Hazbin's success. Never saw the movie, but this is supposed to of been the 100th Disney movie?? They have really fallen off the wagon. 3 years in and they haven't surpassed Encanto is funny to me.
Not the 100th Disney movie, it’s somewhere in the 60s… it was meant to celebrate 100 years of the animation studio
@@turmericchai9 Uh no Encanto was the 60th. The 100 years of Animated Studio thing was just a short.

Looking forward to Lackadaisy joining the ranks of great independent animated series
Lackadaisy is gonna take a minute. But I am patient.
Release Date ??
@@sleepycat-zu4ck the best that I can find with Google is mid to late 2024. Crossing fingers, knock on wood
The pacing of this video is amazing! Honestly I was shocked when I realized this had under 1k views! Great video :D!!
Thank you so much!
ngl the songs in Hazbin Hotel are kind of addicting ''Hell is forever'' has been playing in my brain for the whole week
I'M SORRY BUT BRO JUST HAD TO PUT THE TOUNGE KISSING SCENE AT 12:00 I'M ON THE FLOOR💀

Tbh I tuned out when watching wish it seemed bs, but watching hazbin hotel I was addicted, practically all the songs are on my musicals playlist now.
Dude, I couldn’t even past the opening scene of wish. It was so boring. So yeah I have hazbin hotel playlist too. One in Eng and Japanese.
Adams hell is forever is also a great villain song that destroys this is the thanks I get
The main drawback I find with Hazbin Hotel is that they weren't given enough time.
Yeah, the only thing bad about it was the pacing. That’s really my only criticism. And even then it gets nullified because animation is expensive.
@@Someduude yup same thing happen with Miraculous Ladybug cause the creator originally wanted it to be 2D but its expensive and aswell hard to animate Ladybug's suit patterns, plus one good thing that Vivzie did is stand on her ground to make Hazbin Hotel 2D instead of moving to 3D.
@@sarahzahira7432yeah real shame I kinda liked the 2-d animation a bit better mostly because it has anime aspects and I’m a big fan of anime wish we could’ve at least gotten one episode of a 2-d animation even if it’s short
@@levievil9220 i agree
Gotta use this Hazbin ep 2 quote bc it fits better than it should 😂:
The audience while watching Wish (and maybe the actors while recording): wow... WHO WROTE THIS?? 🤨
The writers at Disney: it's great right?? Keep going! 😁
Sir Pentious was a really good innocent child
6:31 Alastor ALMOST beat Vox, not actually beat him. So whatever happened scarred Vox enough to react that way.
Hazdin hotel is proof that their isnt no more storys to tell just theirs no more creative people getting the chances to tell them and I am glad to see that beginning to change
