This is incredible to see footage of the There and Back tour, it would be nice to see if this show was recorded in its entirety!! Very few videos available of Beck still using a plectrum to create long flowing beautifully conceived incendiary lines!! Great stuff
I had the great good fortune of seeing the same tour with a good friend at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California. It was,and still is, some of the best live music I’ve ever heard.
My college roommate did a summer internship at JPL and took in both shows at the Greek, if I recall correctly that there were 2 shows. We later saw this tour when it hit Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. We had seats right at the sound board and could read the set list. Got to see the band at the stage door as they came out to board the tour bus. Great times!
Good grief Simon is relentless. He is still the same drummer, he was fully formed from early on. The power, spontaneous creativity and confidence on the kit too. Amazing!
I saw this tour a few months later in Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. Seats at the sound board. Simon was a freight train throughout. JB was the icing on the cake. I have many photos from that show.
I saw him here In Eugene, Oregon at one of the horse barns at the Lane County Fairgrounds. This was just before or just after the footage we are seeing here. I was front row center right in front of Jeff. We were all standing on wood chips in there. My jaw dropped while watching Jeff do his thing.
This is superb to see ….what an amazing drum kit and superb drummer. Jeff has always given his musicians time to solo. Love it all. Thank you so much for sharing. I don’t know how long it’s been available but I’ve never seen it before. Hugely grateful 🙏 RIP Jeff Beck ❤❤🎶🎶
I was there at this show. The SB County bowl is one great venue. Small outdoors where the sound is outstanding and your right there on top of it. For me "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" was the most incredible thing I ever heard on an electric guitar live. Its not how fast you can play. Its how slow and with sustain and feeling, breathing every note. Jeff Beck is guitar territory very few venture to learn let alone play. Once before I heard this sort of thing with Carlos Santana in 1976 at UCSB Robertson Gym and the classic "Europa"...for the first time ...live. and later a beautiful guitar solo Eric Clapton did as an intro to "Wonderful Tonight"... in 1982 when he had Albert Lee and Ry Cooder on stage with him.❤ Thank you. For the great memory.
I have never seen any footage of the There and Back tour, this line up is just simply unbelievable, I saw this tour in Portland oregon Aug 80 and it blew my 19 year old mind, Simon Phillips is from another universe. Thank you for sharing this gem
Just outstanding! I would love to see every minute of footage. Thank God this is on video as it's a grand display of Jeff Beck on Fire, no one ever has played a guitar like that. He is relentless, and searing. Beck's musical ear goes beyond just notes on a fretboard. The entire band play on some other level.
Awesome! I saw this tour (I was 17), and it remains one of the top shows I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.... I knew from the album that Simon was killer on the drums - I play - but I had no idea what I was going to witness. His work remains an influence on my playing even now. And of course Jeff and everyone else were AMAZING. So cool to see this. Heck Yeah!
I'd never seen any footage of Beck playing *THAT* Telecaster before. And shame on me, I had never realized what a powerhouse drummer Simon Philips is. Thanks for this, Mo.
There's actually great footage of Beck playing that Tele in a jam w/ Eric Clapton, it was either a Prince's Trust thing or the Secret Policemen's Other Ball...they play Further On Up The Road, and Beck is just slaying, at one point making Clapton just chuckle in awe...
Saw this line up in Manchester at the Apollo. I tried to learn every note played on There & Back as a Si Phi super nerd. Drumming has evolved since yet his unreal playing still gets me excited 44 years on. I bought everything I could find with Simon on from that point. I was ill in hospital in summer 1980 and heard Tommy Vance play Space Boogie on his BBC radio rock show. [Was already aware of Simon due to following Gordon Giltrap who I also saw at the Apollo. ]that made a massive impression on me and immediately I was able bought the single which had Led Boots on the B side , which turned me on to Narada who played on Wired. I was just beginning to study drumming then and those are vivid memories for me. So thankful for this footage. Obviously would love to see the whole thing!
Wow, just wow. I always wanted to see this lineup and this is the first time I've ever seen them. What a great performance. Thank you for finding and sharing this!
I took saw this tour. Manchester, England. Astounding playing by everyone. Beck urged Simon on and he obliged. The drums sounded astounding, never seen them mic'd up like that. Years later saw Bozzio drumming for Jeff. That was at another level again. Seemed like a 2 hour assault on a drum set
This is from a video that Mo insisted on showed me at his townhouse in 1980. He was justifiably proud of the music this lineup made together, live and in the studio ("There And Back". He explained that he was somewhat discombobulated on this gig by the huge P.A. Simon had installed under the front of his drum riser (pointing forward).....thanks Mo, RIP.
Saw Beck when he toured with Santana, with Pino and Bozzio and I think, Hymas... He was so damn good that I was fully saturated musically!! I could not really get into Santana, who was one of my very early favorites. I took me a while to get into what Santana was playing, Beck was that good!! RIP
I saw this tour at The Cage at UMASS - AMHERST, GREAT SHOW! It started late due to some electrical problems, but once that was solved it was a Jammin' Night. They start off with "Blue Wind" from the 'Wired' album. Beck and his Band just melted The Cage that night, Thanks Jeff....R.I.P. 🙏
Very cool! Considering this was such a big album for JB it's surprising there's not much live footage from the tour supporting it. There's not much live footage of Simon Phillips earlier in his career so that part is also great. This is around the time he was on *everyone's* short list for session drummers. Same place Joni Mitchell played for her 'Shadows and Light' concert video in '79.
Thanks for posting this! Interesting that Jeff uses a pick here. For those non-guitarists, Jeff Beck is known for not using a pick for the vast majority of his career.
My first of several Jeff Beck shows. I saw this tour at the Spectrum Philadelphia, September, 1980. I actually turned down a National league baseball championship game between Philadelphia Phillies and the Housto Astros. 3rd row behind the dugout! Made the right move!
I was at the opening date of that tour in Portland Or. His first tour in about five years. Part of our group was a guy in a wheelchair, so we got escorted to the front row. That was when there was festival seating. So that was f'n awesome. He also snuck in two pints in his pant legs. No one would dare frisk him there.Been to a ton of shows over the years and that was top five.
Yes, I was there for one of the two Hammersmith Odeon dates, My first (of many) times seeing Jeff live in London. I have some crappy photos, but sadly pre-dates me being able to capture video.
This is both amazing, and incredibly frustrating that it isn't better filmed, and isn't compete. How do have that many cameras filming this thing and fuck it up this badly -- and not get all of it?
These clips were taken by one of the road crew 'Robyn', on Mo Foster's personal camcorder during the gig. As far as we know there is no further footage.
Santa Barbara Country Bowl is where I’ve seen 2:34 easily 60 concerts in the last 45 years… From the Allman Bro’s (3X) the Kinks, INXS, Marshall Tucker Band (5X) Yes (3X) Jackson Browne and a ton more… the best venue there is!
Worth it to see a young Simon Phillips absolutely at the top of his game. Total monster 😮

He's done some great work with Hiromi Uehara. Check her out, you will not be disappointed.

My favorite guitarist. I saw this tour when it stopped in Pittsburgh at the Stanley Theater.
This is superb to see ….what an amazing drum kit and superb drummer. Jeff has always given his musicians time to solo. Love it all. Thank you so much for sharing. I don’t know how long it’s been available but I’ve never seen it before. Hugely grateful 🙏

There and Back is an amazing album and was huge in the 80s amongst my musician friends. Live footage of the tour is rare. Thank you! 🍻

Saw this in Pittsburgh! As a budding guitarist at the time, Jeff became my hero and still is!

To see Space Boogie live with the original line-up is such a treat! Thanks for sharing.
Yes kids, this is what it was like.
All killer no filler!
Just incredible. My 17 year old self would have lost his mind at that show. Thank you soooooo much for posting.

Saw this tour at Greek Theatre Los Angeles CA. I sat 17th row. Only time I got to see Jeff play 😢. Thanks for uploading this.
This is really fantastic, astonishing musicianship.
Would love to see the full show but grateful for this😊

What a treasure vid of Beck in his trio of legendary era albums. Fusion man from Australia
saw them in Edinburgh and the combination of Simon and Jeff was out of this world
Newcastle City Hall (UK) for me . Absolutely phenomenal .
Stupendous . RIP, Mo Foster.
I was at that show! Radio stations were playing 'El Becko', and 'Star Cycle'.
Amazing! Love the There and Back album. Great footage! Thanks 👍
Awesome, thanks for the share, brings back memories of the There & Back Tour.
I always wondered this there and back tour was anywhere in Florida or only some states that are listed here

The best. Thank you.
This is GOLD!! Thank you so much 🎸
This is incredible footage! Hopefully there’s a full version coming soon!
Wow!! So great to see this rare footage ❤

I was at the T&B Tour when they played at Cobo Hall in Detroit, MI. AWESOME CONCERT!!!

I saw this tour in San Diego. I was amazed to see Simon Philips do his drum solo during Scatterbrain in the same time signature.
Great video !
Thank you !
Oh, damn! The Tele-Gib sounds incredible on Space Boogie.

Missed this show in Pittsburgh. Just didn't have the money as a kid. Wore this record out!!!
I sawhim with Jan hammer I was close to the front . It was fantastic.
Fantastic find!
Bought me to a tear to listen to Jeff at his best 20:01 ❤
Thanks for posting this! Interesting that Jeff uses a pick here. For those non-guitarists, Jeff Beck is known for not using a pick for the vast majority of his career.
Wow-I love this line upof the Beck band-foster,phillips,hymas-There & Back is a 5 star album that sounds as good today as it did 40+ yeras ago.
Saw this tour at DAR Constitution Hall in DC. Awesome show!
incredible musicians . i so miss JB and his elaborate sound
Saw this tour at the Open Air Theater in San Diego (SDSU) in -- what, 1980? Great stuff. RIP Jeff & Mo.
There n back...if I take the old black record out I can see right through it. :) Thats why I bought the cd later on. Brilliant album!
Fantastic!
My first of several Jeff Beck shows. I saw this tour at the Spectrum Philadelphia, September, 1980.
I actually turned down a National league baseball championship game between Philadelphia Phillies and the Housto Astros.
3rd row behind the dugout!
Made the right move!
One of the best Beck bands, but they're all stellar.
Wonderful! And flip! Simon Phillips at only 23 years old!
I was at the opening date of that tour in Portland Or. His first tour in about five years. Part of our group was a guy in a wheelchair, so we got escorted to the front row. Saw this tour 5 days before in Seattle…legendary performance. A great era when instrumentalists could sell out 2000+ seats.
Saw this about a month later in October at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. First of many times seeing my favorite drummer Mr Phillips...
FANtastic !
Love that album from 1980
Caught him in Birmingham England that year! He liked the appreciative brum audience
Saw the There and Back tour at the Edinburgh Playhouse. A classic!
For those commenting on Phillips...check out 801 Live, he was 18 in '76 I believe... Tears it up... So he must be about 22 here!
Hammersmith Odeon was a great venue to see this tour when it rocked into town - gentlemen at the top of their game.
Yes, I was there for one of the two Hammersmith Odeon dates, My first (of many) times seeing Jeff live in London. I have some crappy photos, but sadly pre-dates me being able to capture video.
Saw that tour in Eugene Oregon. Incredible!
Incredible ...
Best band, best music, and best tour ever!

I saw him at DAR Constitution Hall on this tour.
Was at the Vancouver Canada concert of this tour. Stanley Clarke was the opening act. This recording in no way does this band justice. Great memories.
In 1979, JB, Stanley, Simon and Jan Hammer toured Japan… that would’ve been a show to see.
@@volvo945 agreed, but what a great addition Tony Hymas made to Jeff's canon, both live and on record!

I see it and I can't believe how Beck can play this stuff on guitar.

NO whammy bar gimmicks and tricks- very good. Barbaric drum solo: does not swing a minute.
What a shame there aren't any full songs or more images and sounds of Jeff Beck himself. Anyway, thanks.
pretty cool
And to think - Tal was ( negative ) 6 years old.
