This is an amazing, AMAZING video, not only worthy of being watched more than once but also of being saved for watching again in the future. Your content really is class. 😊
Move blocking with a land speeder works well. Cheapish and tough enough that your opponent can't ignore it and may have to redirect heavy fire towards it to clear the lane as most melee won't get through it. They're fast enough to make it work early in a game and give you a foothold too. Being a WS successor player, and only casual, I'd like to run a list with a few of these to give me options to play how I want. But this is second time round for me so still building my army up. Really good video. Super helpful!
cheers bud, it sounds like you are playing with legends units then! If you use matched play rules id consider looking at scouts/ATV's for the low cost units to do that with!
You can also charge the scary damage dealers and base them with something expendable. For example, i LOVE charging the MOE and berzerkers with a trukk. Then i dont care when they fight first into my nobz simply because the big dmg dealers are forced to hit the trukk
Another note abut the fights first pile in situation. Any units that aren't valid to fight at the start of the "fights first" stage don't fight until the "Remaining Combats" stage. So you can pile into a "fights first" unit multiple times before they get to fight back.
Is this correct? I can see that in the App, last paragraph of Introduction in Fight Phase. It does say if you pile into a unit that unit fights in remaining combats. Supporting this. However, the app also states that all unit with Fight First, fight in that part of the Fight Phase. Secondly, the Fights First unit is now in Engagement Range. So under the same part of the rules it is now eligible to be chosen to activate, in the Fights First step. Thoughts?
@@MitchNotKeithorRob In the app if you look under "remaining combats". It states specifically this includes any units with the fights first ability that weren't eligible to fight at the beginning of the fight phase and now are. So the fight first ability only works if your eligible to fight at the beginning of the phase, if you become eligible during it you resolve that combat in the remaining combat step.
@@MitchNotKeithorRob No problem. I don't know how often this will be applicable, how often do you have a fight first unit next to another unit you can charge with 2 units. But its worth knowing, especially if your up against the Lion or something.
@@tyhar7493I have question about this. I fought Dark Angels and one unit had fight first due to ability of the leader. The unit was embarked in intercessor. After my charge with two units to intercessor, first unit destroyed it and then he had fight first or my second unit could pile in and fight first?
If you're close enough to pile into a fights first unit they can heroic into you. I guess that would force them into spending cp to not lose their fights first unit. Smart
Awesome recap and game John! Loved the list and playstyle. I'm gonna try a similar Stormlance list, the reactive move is really hard to play around even for combined arms like Necrons, I'm a bit mote concerned on how it'll do against melee lists like wolfjail though. Btw I've been playing a lot of games in gladius and I feel like people are actually sleeping on 5 men sternguard w Captain, and sternguard MSU altogether working as a fairly good skirmish that somehow gets to punch up hard.
On playing around "Fights First": I've heard about this interesting rules interaction before, and I've used it in my game -- but what the heck do we do when your opponent knows about this and keeps their Fights First units isolated? Cheers, love the stuff :)
Hey! I really liked the video and i'm definitely thinking more about my list. I do have a few questions if you wouldn't mind me asking. It's mostly about list building. Now that deepstrike to 3" has been nerfed to 6", how important is it to bring a group of space marine infiltrator's to hold my back line? Would it be okay to bring something like heavy intercessors? Also, I'm stuck between 2 choices and would love advice from someone who knows more than I. I run ultramarines btw. I have a Guilliman already, and a Land raider Redeemer. I could either put Marneus with 6 blade guard inside of it, or bring those 6 blade guard with a lieutenant and a group of 5 intercessors instead. With Marneus I was 10pts over which is why I was curious on the Heavy intercessors. Because I would likely loose out on the Infiltrators. One last question. How good is a Captain with jumpack attatched to a 5man JPI squad? I used to run him, but to throw Marneus in there I was thinking of taking him out. Thank you so much for reading this, means a lot! Loved the video :)

@Happykrumpingwargaming007 I probably will haha, I was looking into the description but wasn't able to find the link to book a meeting. Any way I could get one here? Thank you!
I have to look on this video again. I think my 1k army is complex but I have tournament for 1,5k and my gorkanaut is useless. 😅 and I’m short of trukks 🙈
"Don't split fire" seems like it's own trap to me, unless I miss understanding the phrase. I've only been playing since 10th but I understand the concept of focus firing from other game systems. However seems to me you should focus fire with affective weapons in my opinion, I don't see the point firing off everything on my Ballistas Dreadnought into a 2+ armoured vehicle when I know the storm bolters probably aren't going to do anything. Instead I select 2 priority targets, one being armour and one being infantry and focus the appropriate weapons from all units into those targets.
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 I think that's where the message don't split fire is confusing for some. It could mean If you have multiple weapon profiles make sure to focus all of those profiles into one target regardless of the type of weapon. or If a certain weapon profile has multiple shots don't allocate some shots to one target and other shots to another. Because I've seen "split fire" used in both definitions. But I disagree with the first.
I feel like lethals are inferior to lance in almost every case. I mean, wounding with +1 seems far more efficient for taking down durable targets than 17% of my hits auto-wounding. Don't get me wrong, it's far from worthless, it's just not as effective as lance. Also, I'm using lance to mean anytime you get +1 to wound, not just on the charge. I know it's not accurate to call it that, but same effect.
lethal becomes MUCH more efficient when you have hit rerolls! If you have hit re rolls you would rather have lethal, assuming you are going into a high toughness unit.
@Happykrumpingwargaming007 yea, I can agree with rerolls lethals does help some. But if I need lethals chances are I'm using red rampage and it kinda depends on the target if I'm selecting lethals, lance or taking battleshock for both.
For the pile in trick against Fights first, keep in mind that, as written in the core rulebook, you have to pile in to the closest ennemy (the charged unit in most cases), so the fights first unit needs to be clos enough for you to enter in combat with them using the pile in on the charged unit.
Always love videos like these. Really helps build up the solid foundation to get better. Keep up the great work!
