  • Empowerment can be a useful attitude to adopt with our pain sensations.
    In this video I go through an example of somatic tracking with an emphasis on empowerment.

    "Letting go of the part of you that wants this to go away. That needs this to go away." I spent so long in rest trying to make myself feel better and the irony is the moment you say that a shift happens in me and I start to relax a lot more and symptoms lift way faster.

    That was revolutionary. Thank you. When you were talking about being safe, my fatigue symptoms turned into simply a warm and cosy tiredness! Madness. Which video would be the best to share with someone with fibromyalgia as their first introduction to brain training?

    I was relieved to hear from you (and Miriam G. B.) not to attempt Somatic Tracking when sensations are peaking. When that happens, the deep tissue massage gun feels helpful. Levels have been down, however, for almost a week. Looking to reduce fear (for me frustration) and not to "fix" the pain is an eye-opener. BTW, my sensations dropped by 75% after 6 straight days of working with an Amish crew washing and staining my entire house. I was greeted by relief the very first day after we were done.
    I have had 5 straight days of relief since!! Why? Two reasons: Project Done and Accepting Help. Can you weigh in? Also curious how you "accepted" the pain and walked anyway. I still limp even with sensations down.

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  Год назад +3

      Yes it is so important to follow the process. This is how I started to walk while still in pain, I just made sure it was mild to moderate and would do a form of somatic tracking as I walked. Also it is great your pain has dropped, this could be for lots of reasons however having a goal outside of our pain can be really useful. Feelings of accomplishment are wonderful as well! Keep going!

    I really enjoy your videos Tanner. Thank you for them. I tried the tracking last night and as soon as you said don’t do this if the pain is more than moderate, my pain level jumped way up. I didn’t have that problem this morning. I found this jump exciting as it told me my body was listening and validated the reason for my pain.

    Can I ask you about an earlier video where you advocated being in the body, how does that work? We use our minds to think and experience emotions so how do we focus on our bodies

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  2 месяца назад

      This is by shifting to focus on sensations in our body and exploring them. This is where emotions are held. Check out my somatic basics video for guidance!

    Hi tanner
    Im a bit confused about what to do, as you say you can do somatic tracking any time, but most of what i have read and your ad ise is not to pay attention to your pain to much, but i am worried about paying attention every time i do somatic tracking
    Can you
    tell me what you would advise on this
    Thankyou best regards
    Terry

      Good question. It is definitely a balance and everyone is a bit different. I liked doing brief 2-3 minute somatic trackings throughout the day, and the rest of the time I focused more on my emotional state and trying to enjoy life. However everyone is different and it can take some exploring.

      I will try to do a video on this in the future. It is too difficult to explain it fully in a comment. Basically in PRT we are also trying to teach our brain that movement is safe.

    Tamer please confirm with me if I’m doing it right
    When I feel tightness or burn in my chest,
    I let it be there and choose to focus on another sensation in my body ?

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  4 месяца назад

      Yes, this is a portion of somatic tracking! Somatic tracking includes: being mindful of the sensations of pain or symptoms, giving cognitive messages of safety, and positive affect induction (focusing on a pleasant sensation, using positive visualization or images, humour, analogies ect.). I hope this makes sense!

    Question: How do you do somatic tracking when there's multiple symptoms?

    • @painpsychotherapy
      @painpsychotherapy  11 месяцев назад +2

      This depends person to person what works best. For myself I would focus on just one area, one area that is most prominent, or follow the sensations moving around my body. It can take some exploring in seeing what works best.

    Lie to ourselves 😢. Been doing that for years. Cause we need to be able to LOOK OK. LOOK able. Earn a really good living . Make investments to get cash flow monthly. Too much fears sensations & Allergies inflammation & itchy nerves on cheast & back & arms, etc.(ENVIRONMENTS, Locations , FOODS Allergies.
    Frustrating 😤.

    I don't really understand why all we do is constantly nonstop observe the pain and how this will change anything I'm not convinced. I've been observing the pain sensations for years and years.
    I thought the real healing happens when we reassure ourselves it is our brain "misreading" sensations as pain but really we are healthy. But you almost never address this and don't incorporate it in your public somatic tracking exercises. Its seems like the most important part is always totally absent from your somatic tracking exercises. Is that not how you did it? Or is that only for paid sessions? I'm just confused. Most of us are experts at being aware of our bodily sensations we don't want to get more advanced at feeling them we want to turn down the volume or Retrain our brain, not become experts at observing our pain.
    I am already 100 percent convinced its "TMS" i understand all the concepts but i have really been an expert at Being hyper aware of my body and this has caused me to be even more hypersensitive. I naturally observe different sensations in my body what i believe needs to be incorporated is some type of self talk to retrain the brain but I've not heard you address this or if you have it was a brief passing comment. I've watched about 20 of your videos and very much appreciate your trying to share information but i feel like only constantly observing our pain passively is only half of the solution.
    If there is some corrective or positive self talk during these tracking sessions i would be grateful to hear it. How much can we continue to observe and describe the pain. Is that how people are healed? If its neuroplastic, that would just be strengthening the pathways and not changing them.
    I agree a feeling of safety is crucial but how do we retrain our brain to understand it is misinterpreting a healthy body as feeling pain.
    If you did this corrective self talk in your process or if that is part of the brain "Reprocessing" therapy can you please walk us through it. Maybe you never did that part. If you did it would be nice if you would share it.

      Thanks for the feedback. I do try to incorporate messages of safety in the tracking, however I will try to amplify this in the future! Cognitive messages of safety can be an important part of many people's journeys including my own. Perhaps I'll do a full video on this in the near future!
