- Howdy! fellow adventurers. Wavey and I have been exploring the "No Man's Land" on the Keweenaw Peninsula recently. The black flies temporarily put a stop it...you'll see.

Job 12:7-10
"“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind."
See you again soon...

I think I would carry some rolls of fly paper with me. They are small and cheap and don't take much room but priceless in a situation like this.
You need a solar-powered bug zapper and a case of beer. Have a party
@@MrOtis1956 yes! To both ;)
It's pretty cool seeing two series at the same time. Definitely need yourself a bug zapper! Thanks for sharing.👍
I wonder if one of those would work. I'm going to look into it.
@@brentonsriversidehermitage they have a spray for cattle to keep flies off of them. Maybe a diluted version could work on The Beagle. Just a thought....
Calm waters = many flies. Great videos, keep it up!
Thanks. Those little buggers do a great job keeping the beaches and streams clean. Heard them described as defenders of the wilderness.
Flies (black, stable, deer, horse) are no joke in the UP. It is a wet country. Brenton is in the higher elevations of the UP and without out much of any snow this past winter, those bastards still hit hard. Don't get me wrong. Any beach on the Great Lakes has flies but the UP takes it up a few notches. If a viewer is planning on a vacation to the UP, plan on late July and hope you get onshore breeze to truly experience either lake Michigan or Superior. When you get a friendly turn of cards, magical place.
🪰🪰🪰🪰 Holy Smokes!!! I thought the fly's on my farm are bad, but that is multiple levels beyond. I feel for you, that's rough rough rough!
God’s Glory is seen in all of His creation!
You got it;)
Great video Brenton...Glad your back in Superiorland!!
Those black flies are nothing short of a horror movie. EEEK!!!!!! And Wavey is the best dog ever. Thanks for another interesting adventure Brenton and Wavey!
Was hiking that coastline a few years ago and the flies came out.. I was cover so thick that you could not see my clothing!!! When I made it back to my vehicle there was some hikers there wanting to pay me $100 to give them a ride to town or their vehicle... I did it for free...
It's like a horror movie!
Love your beach glass. My wife and I have been collecting it for close to forty years. Literally thousands of pieces from all over. From Maine to Alaska. Glad you and Wavey are doing well. I bet the trip home with the barge would've been an entertaining video on it's own.🌴
I love collecting beach glass. Ita good to hear it's in Maine too, we plan to go there this fall. It's a good excuse to slowly walk all beaches;) like we need one
Great video, grew up on the Ontonagon river and have spent many hours on the shores of the lake from Ontonagon up to Silver City. I now live in Georgia and only get back up there once every few years.
Great Vid Brenton, I remember those fly's now thanks.
Those buggers are ancient biters and make me swell up! Crazy how many you had! If I get barnacals growing on my boat, I'm going to blame you for bringing them to the Great Lakes! Lol! Is love to poke my way up Sleepy Bay River but screens in!!! Fun run otherwise! AllthebestRoy
What an awesome place, but those flies would drive me nuts!
I'd have to have a motor that could plane out and get away from the Flies
@@libertyforamericanow and run out of fuel :(
Toby is a deer dog too.
👍
I’ve camped at Brimley SP and had to move to the lower peninsula just because of the black flies.
Ouch! I know it, when they come on...it's murder:(
🤠👍👍
Black sand usually has gold mixed in
In Superior - Keewanaw country a south wind brings the flies out.
End Time Plagues? Those Deer Flies would have me donning my Everglades Bug Outfit! Does Skin So Soft work on them? A Man could spend a lot of quality time nosing around all those inlets ya got up there!
It does feel like end times plagues! Lol. Come on up buddy;) no man's land. The flies will be gone soon.
Enjoyable video! New sub
@freeravenadventures6925 thank you for finding us ;)
Wow with the black flies! I was wondering about them. Could it be because it was so still also? That might be a deal-breaker for living there, do you have them that bad at your home? Still so beautiful, the peace and serenity and the Wilderness, with not lots of people. You can't beat that. Thanks for taking us along, Brenton. The weird thing is, here in the North Carolina Mountains, I see a dramatic decrease in insects this year and last. Bizarre.
Does it feel good to be home? What an amazingly beautiful playground you have. 😊👋☀️🌊☮️🌎
Hi Dyan, I agree on the flies. The good thing is they don't last long, maybe a month and sporadic. The price to pay I guess ;) lake superior is the place to be in summer and especially fall
@@brentonsriversidehermitage I understand. I guess every place has its pluses and minuses. If it doesn't last that long, that is good. Seems like so many positives there on the UP.😊
Nice trip flies not withstanding.
Ment yo mention when you were in Florida on the waterway across the state that equipment along the side I do believe was whst we call peekers it's jet engines attached to generators designed to create extra power during high demand periods. Very expensive way to do it but effective.
Were is your gold sluice? Run that black sand
@@lorencolt I've seen videos of folks finding great lakes gold
If God grants me a few more years of life
If he gives some of my family members miracles to save them. I’m going to look for a cruiser this time with twin outboards to drag me around the canals.
You have got to start trolling behind your boat! You could be eating fresh fish everyday!
At 5 mph?
We have those black flies on Lake St. Clair. Miserable little Buggers!!!
Have gone thru your pain all I can say is screens !!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Man, I feel for you with those little bastards. If / When they find you, it's atrocious.
I'm so confusededed! ICW & lake okachobe to lake Superior in the same week? I would assume it's last year but the new plastic tender is there. Did you trailer everything north?
Yes we did. We stopped the loop (for now) in Oriental, NC and came home to Superiorland for the summer
Thermacell works well for keeping mosquitoes and black flies away from you.
Thank you! I'll try them
@@brentonsriversidehermitage just make sure you get the Multi Insect Repellent for the black flies. The regular repellant only does mosquitoes.
@@spot.2020 okay. Thank you!
Live in central NY and Black fly season is not that bad compared to being in Canada or where you are. Those northern black flies and mosquitoes are a little meaner and a lot hungrier and come out in swarms. Bug spray with DEET is like a condiment to those little bastards. Head net, long sleeves and pants all tucked in.
@brianbaker5753 that's a good way to put it...and condiment;) lol
I don't react well with black flies.. those darn things sure would run me out of town in a hurry
You sir have help change my outlook on retirement. I wont be working past 62 your sure, and i thinking that i can do my 40 and out with my employer and make it. Thanks for the videos and all the info. I'm here in N.C. Just curious what area did you come through and what did you think of the Carolina's. Please keep up the good work!
Howdy. The Carolinas were great. Those videos are coming up.
Hi Brenton, just love your videos. Just curious, why cant you let Wavey go on those deserted beach areas? Or wont she come back?
Hound dogs just follow their noses and charge off. No Stopping Them! Fricken Pains! Just had to put down our Walker Coon Hound, God rest his soul. He could not use his back legs at the end and he still tried to follow the sent trail. He was the 45 pound version of Wavey, Ruled by their noses.
Bug Zappers?
25:32 no way, get me the f out of here now!
I thought florida had bugs.
Right?! For a couple months...they come and go.
I'd try some Deep woods Off
Where is your bug spray and why is the door wide open to invite the flies in ?
Noisie lit motor
It is. Too nosey. Air cooled.
You made good time, 5 minutes ago you were in south Florida now you're on Lake Superior. What happen to your scooter?
Right!? ;) the scooter is in my garage, rusty!
What happen to the Great Loop trip? It seems you stopped in NC. I wait for those updates every week. Was looking forward to how you would handle MD home. What happened or was that the plan?
It was getting too hot down south, and I have some work to do here in Superiorland. We will finish the loop, it's just going to take 2 legs
Frign' flies food for the birds?
@@wallsle and fish! ;)
I was interested to see that you were picking up sea glass, I have been making seaglass pictures for about twenty years. Good seaglass looks like beautiful gemstones, but it is getting really hard to find (so many people collect it now).
I love beach glass. We have a lot of it. We send it to folks as gifts
@@brentonsriversidehermitage wonderful gift!
People stopped throwing glass in the water. I live near the beach in Florida and I have been told - Cruz ships used to throw bottle overboard regularly- but now seaglass is super rare.
Do you figure they might be a driftwood fly? lol
Does @brentonsriversidehermitage ever get back to a certain beach where the blueberries were plentiful oh so many years ago?
Mel? Email me. I know even better blueberry spots than that. bnetz95959@yahoo.com
Yeah, I saw that light house for sale a while back. Curious what the final sales price?
I heard it was around 350k
how do handle when the waves get big on lake superior? do you look for an inlet?
If they started getting really big, yeah...we run for shelter
14:43 need another camera so we can walk it in with you.
Hi
Hi Logan ;)
Bet they bust it up into small lots 1 acre or so develop some roads services then sell the lots for 1+ million lake front choice property. Ruin it. All private access.
I don't think there is a bug spray that will repel the black files.
I've never found one or heard of one
Brenton, debating on powering the project. What is the year model of the workhorse? Is it carbed or EFI? Which would you suggest? Thanks.
Mine is a 2008 Yamaha 60 4-stroke EFI high thrust and it's a great motor for this boat
Thanks alot. It looked like an older model. Didn't realize the 60s were EFI in 2008. Saw you were around the Superior driftwood collection. I've always been partial to the piece in the Beagle barge. I've got one on my fishing cabinet I had considered using on my project although I saw an episode from years back you were selling some small driftwood. I would be forever grateful and make a good contribution if you would send me a piece for my shanty boat. Thanks for considering.
i wounder if a electric leaf blower would blow the flys away
They will drive you to try anything.
What is beach glass? What is it from?
Beach glass is a natural phenomenon.
Its from lightning strikes on driftwood.
The electrons heat up the wood to 27 million degrees and it breaks apart taking up the color of the water molecules. Thats why ocean glass is blue, lake and river glass is green, and on the rare occasions it hits a septic system with a wooden lid you can find brown.

🤣🤣🤣
Does Lake Superior ever get warm?
The beaches can get warm around August and September, but generally no...it's always cold water
If you call 55 degrees warm
I'd be willing to trade you some of your black flies for some of my yellow flies here in Florida, and I'll even give you a great deal. For one of yours, you get ten-thousand of mine.😃
16:45 i know its super slow but wear that red saftey cord.
The title of this vid made me think you were gonna be venturing into Amazonian territory or hostile, anti-man land.
Right?! ;) the black flies rule no man's land
@@brentonsriversidehermitage The flies remind me of "The Amityville Horror." Watch out for evil spirits out there. I wrote this same comment a couple of minutes ago and the Tube said it was a bullying comment.
