    The claims that the Flash will be the first entry in DCU were never clear.
    James Gunn confirmed that the movie will reboot the DC universe, but everyone was very ambiguous about what it actually means for the future of Flash.
    Ezra Miller will most likely not return as the Flash.
    And considering the box office numbers of and how the movie is being received, it’s highly unlikely that this version of the Flash will continue.
    And if that’s the case, then it means that Clooney won’t be returning to the DCU as Batman.
    Doug: Wait I’m confused now, is he Batman or not?
    Well, I guess this depends on what James Gunn will announce about the ending.
    I wouldn’t discount the possibility of Clooney returning, and I have some ideas on how that could even work.
    But more than likely, this was just a fun cameo for the Flash, just like they had Nicolas Cage appear as Superman.
    Doug: But what about Jason Mamoa?
    Right, Jason Mamoa is in the credit scene, confirming that Aquaman is still part of this timeline.
    But I bet DC Studios didn’t make a choice on Aquaman’s future yet, and they’re waiting to see how the sequel performs before deciding on how to proceed with Mamoa.
    So to make this all easier to understand, the ending of the Flash exists in a separate continuity from the upcoming DCU. A continuity that will be brand new without the baggage of the DCEU or any other previous movies.
    Now what’s interesting is that according to the reports, the ending we got is one of the three alternative endings that Warner Brothers were planning.
    One of these endings included Michael Keaton becoming the DCEU’s Batman. There are set photos that show Keaton’s Batman alongside Barry Allen outside the courthouse at the end of the movie.
    And Supergirl is there as well.
    This would have meant that after Flash reset the timeline, the Batman and the Supergirl from the other universe would have entered the disjointed continuity of the DCEU. Meaning Barry’s actions royally messed up the timeline.
    This ending makes sense since Keaton was supposed to appear as Batman in the canceled Batgirl movie.
    The second ending was going to be mostly the same as the first, but on top of Keaton and Sasha Calle, the ending would have included Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. However, this ending wasn’t filmed.
    There was also a scrapped post-credit scene that was going to include Ben Affleck, and apparently Barry’s actions sent him to another universe and now he needs saving.
    In the end, they chose to use the ending with Clooney.
    So yeah, it’s a giant mess. The Flash is a byproduct of countless course corrections and seismic changes in Warner Brothers. So I guess it’s a miracle that the movie was actually not bad at all. I personally like it.
    Anyways, all of this means that once the DCU actually begins, there will be a completely different actor playing Batman.
    While the Flash won’t have anything to do with the DCU, he did mess with the multiverse a lot in this movie. So in theory his actions created James Gunn’s universe.
    Now could Clooney work as the DCU’s Batman….? Maybe. I personally would prefer a Batman who isn’t in their 60s.
    But like I said before, Clooney is a great actor, so if he is the DCU’s Batman that could still work.
    So if the plan is to keep Clooney as Batman, I’m sure that they will make it work with a bit of cinema magic.
    And there are multiple versions of old man Batman in the comics which could serve as an inspiration for Clooney’s Batman.
    There’s The Dark Knight Returns, which was done to death at this point. Batman v Superman is a very loose adaptation of that iconic story. Same as the Dark Knight Rises.
    Then there’s Batman Beyond, which explored a retired Bruce Wayne who’s mentoring a new and younger Batman in the future.
    As well as Kingdom Come, in that story Batman was still active in his old age.
    But not to sound redundant, I don’t believe Cloney is returning. The nature of the cameo, the beard, the tone of the ending of Flash, it all gives me strong vibes that it’s just a gag. And we shouldn’t take this too seriously.
    Again, I think the best thing to do is to cast a new actor as the DCU’s Batman.

    Honestly, Ben Affleck would have been a perfect fit for this particular Batman story but sadly it's highly unlikely they'd want him or that he'd want to. I've always been a Marvel guy (old guy, so I'm talking comics), but the big draw of this particular storyline, is that it made a CONCERTED effort to distinguish itself from the (tiring) multiverse Marvel barrage, by making it strictly about time travel. DC was never known, to this point, for taking part in long-term, philosophical morality in it's properties - Which was actually kind of refreshing after a couple solid decades of Marvel's constant (but important) social/individual critique. The Flash time travel gave DC that opportunity without stepping in Marvel's many well-worn philosophical storylines. They did a GREAT job with it, too!
    Aside from the horrific state of CGI affairs after about a quarter BILLION dollars of investment, this installment decided to avert the ONE distinguishing and well-received aspect of The Flash storyline. What's different about time-travel vs multiverse? Well, everything. It's reminiscent of atheist philosophy vs incarnation theory. Atheist philosophy is MUCH more dramatic because, at it's core, it hinges on ONE chance to live out Campbell's "Heroes Journey" - as opposed to the reincarnation philosophy, which generously allows nearly unlimited blunders and the righting of those wrongs. Atheist philosophy gives only a handful of decades to "get it right" - one shot within one timeline and with one action that inflicts it's repercussions immediately upon the participant. The Flash time travel storyline WAS that "one shot" perspective, which not only ushered in a whole other set of moral and philosophical implications, but also really amped up the drama in an organic, interesting way.
    I can identify the older from younger criticisms because, in addition to the obvious and confusing final product aesthetics, the old fogies are far more annoyed by this gold mine which was not only already in existence with massive success, but also set the DC franchise apart from the Marvel's increasingly convoluted multiverse in a respectable and substantial way. If this were truly an effort to reboot the DCU, the time travel storyline was the perfect way to do it; the only way, in some respects. This seems more like a controlled demolition than a reboot.

    • @TheTanman412
      @TheTanman412 11 месяцев назад +2

      Very well said. On one hand, it’s a celebration of DC, yet on the other it feels as if they sabotaged the film (via editing/cgi/story) purposefully after seeing the writing on the wall, to stoke the audience’s desire to reboot completely. Perhaps the unavoidable studio climate just makes it appear that way. Such a shame.
      I loved the retro causality explanation of time travel. Which is not being talked about enough in the press, the way that Nolan got astrophysicists to talk about Black Holes during the Interstellar press run. The audience is not used to this type of time travel story-telling.

    • @hezekiahramirez6965
      @hezekiahramirez6965 10 месяцев назад

      Long term philosophical morality is a huge part of DC. It seems like you're not very familiar with DC Comics. Superman has always been a morally aspirational character. He straight up tells the reader what the moral was in many, many stories. Batman did the same. Often moralizing to Robin and/or Commissioner Gordon. The Green Lantern and Green Arrow comics, both individually and the team-up series, were and are almost exclusively based on social commentary. The Green Arrow is literally a Democrat who got elected as same. Hawk and Dove was a treatise on war, policing, and class dynamics, and I could go on. Wonder Woman is a feminist icon, Swamp Thing is the ultimate environmentalist, The Martian Manhunter is essentially always about xenophobia... Your impression of what DC Comics is just doesn't square with reality

    • @sisterseeth
      @sisterseeth 10 месяцев назад

      Hello, Hezekiah - You are absolutely right about many of those comics, but please note that I said "to this point" about DC not often partaking in social/individual critique. The Flash time travel storyline was introduced in 1961.
      Since you mentioned Superman, do you know the inspiration for the character? It came from Jerry Siegel who was an avid fan of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche's book, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" and his notion of an "Ubermensch" (later translated to Superman). This wasn't initially a character, but a philosophy which states that God is dead, and to overcome this tragedy, men must follow someone who is near to perfection. This philosophy was the core from which much genetic experimentation was inflicted upon peoples in 1920-1930s era Germany, because like the Superman narrative, most humans were genetically flawed and required either death (purification), or upgrading. This philosophy of eugenics and human genetic modification would later become the inspiration for Julian Huxley (brother of Aldous, interestingly) in 1957, when he coined the term "transhumanism." The idea is that despite ourselves, we are not capable of reaching our higher potential by the handing of ever-refining ideals generation-to- generation (the way we did for tens-of-thousands of years), but that in light of the industrial revolution (and future technologies), we must emulate someone superior, from a superior place, with superior technology who, by their very existence, could provide salvation from our sorrows....if we would only agree to become something else and emulate this superior example.
      In fact, it was Marvel's ideas about differences being our power, that caught my eye those many years ago. Marvel introduced storylines that reduced complicated philosophy down into narratives that anyone could understand, at any age. Ideas such as that our lives are made from a series of good and bad choices, and it's within those moments that we may build our character; character acting as the support beams of self-esteem and societal contributions, while also making our differences irrelevant because every single person, from any place, at any time, and with any technology, must build themselves and their community upon those same choices. Most of Marvel's heroes (especially the earlier ones) weren't from "over there" with "those genetics" or with "that technology" - they were just people who strived every day to understand what makes goodness good, by dealing with what makes badness bad and, thereby, coming to know the infinite number of forms both can take when chosen. You are entitled to your views of the Caped Crusader, but in my eyes it seems little more than "Seeking External Validation through Societal Saviors and Minimizing Your Power to Build a Better World" for third-graders. Sure, there were many simple, Aesop-fable-like "good-ol values" stashed within the pages of Superman, but the same can be said about Garfield, for example.
      Wonder Woman is feminist? Wonder Woman became a symbol for numbing sexism in a puerile forum - a woman in hot pants, written and drawn by men, for a medium aimed at boys. You can see more about inverted-feminism in superheroines in a great documentary I did research for entitled, "Wonder Women! The Untold Stories of American Superheroines."
      I take issue with three other ethics you've attributed to DC characters, but it's 3:33 A.M., and I have class in a few hours.
      If you would like citations of any references, and/or a recommended reading list of these foundational philosophies (of either ilk), I'll be glad to oblige. Unfortunately, YT won't allow me to paste links to these citations, or my edu email address, so feel free to send your inquiry to:

He's voiced Batman already, he already bulked up to play Soldier Boy, and being 45 I think he's just the right age to have the Bat family already championed and Damian is a Chad come into the picture. IMO. Having Affleck in another universe & figuring out how to come back to his universe sounds like a cool idea. We can finally have Ben in his own movie but In a unique way. I've always been a Marvel guy (old guy, so I'm talking comics), but the big draw of this particular storyline, is that it made a CONCERTED effort to distinguish itself from the (tiring) multiverse Marvel barrage, by making it strictly about time travel. DC was never known, to this point, for taking part in long-term, philosophical morality in its properties - Which was actually kind of refreshing after a couple solid decades of Marvel's constant (but important) social/individual critique. The Flash time travel gave DC that opportunity without stepping into Marvel's many well-worn philosophical storylines. They did a GREAT job with it, too!
    Aside from the horrific state of CGI affairs after about a quarter BILLION dollars of investment, this installment decided to avert the ONE distinguishing and well-received aspect of The Flash storyline. What's different about time travel vs multiverse? Well, everything. It's reminiscent of atheist philosophy vs incarnation theory. Atheist philosophy is MUCH more dramatic because, at its core, it hinges on ONE chance to live out Campbell's "Heroes Journey" - as opposed to the reincarnation philosophy, which generously allows nearly unlimited blunders and the righting of those wrongs. Atheist philosophy gives only a handful of decades to "get it right" - one shot within one timeline and with one action that inflicts its repercussions immediately upon the participant. The Flash time travel storyline WAS that "one shot" perspective, which not only ushered in a whole other set of moral and philosophical implications but also really amped up the drama in an organic, interesting way. I can identify the older from younger criticisms because, in addition to the obvious and confusing final product aesthetics, the old fogies are far more annoyed by this gold mine which was not only already in existence with massive success but also set the DC franchise apart from Marvel's increasingly convoluted multiverse in a respectable and substantial way. If this were truly an effort to reboot the DCU, the time travel storyline was the perfect way to do it; the only way, in some respects. This seems more like a controlled demolition than a reboot. My pick for Batman might be a bit out there but it would give you the room to have at least two Batman movies where he can still really go but also transition into the teacher role from Batman Beyond. Also, I think they need an actual Martial Artist in the role to really allow him to do some of the fightings we haven’t really seen from Batman yet. If it were me, I’d try to get Jason Statham. It would be a very different type of fighting style but would bring a harder attitude than most and someone who really knows how to fight. Maybe that’s an out-there pick, but I think he’d be excellent. Just my opinion. I enjoyed Keaton's return, limited as it was. I really hope they do a Batman Beyond, featuring him, even if it's just a standalone Elseworlds story. I think Clooney is Alfred. He never answered the question "Are you Batman." He responded, "Are you ok?" I surprisingly enjoyed this movie a lot…and absolutely loved Keaton back as Batman For me, It's Jensen Ackles. He already voices Batman in animation. And he is passionate enough for the character. I’m 33 in 7 days; I got the Batman Begins symbol tatted on my spine the very day I turned 18 which is as early as legally possible here in Texas: I just need James Gunn and his crew to take our guy seriously. Had a terrible childhood, feels like I was half-raised by Keaton. Batman means so much to a lot of us. I want the DCU Batman to be introduced in a Halloween special in 2025. A Special from the criminals/citizens of Gotham POV or following a reporter (Clark or Lois???), with some similarities to Batman: Gotham Knight, treated as a horror movie (maybe directed by Sam Raimi). Then in 2026, we get “The Brave and the Bold” (something similar to Leon: The Professional). My fan castings for Batman/Bruce are Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Ben Barnes, Jon Hamm, and Andrew Koji. I think Clooney is Alfred. He never answered the question "Are you Batman." He responded, "Are you ok?" I like Ezra as Flash. I like the JL suit. It’s as if Flash existed in the real world. Like Nolan’s Batman trilogy. A fabric suit would be almost crazy if his character isn’t developed, I say Flash needs 2 solo movies & 1.5 (gets destroyed) team-up movie before a futuristic-type upgrade from his future self, then does a Flashpoint. I’m torn abt the movie, bc Keaton is back as Batman & I want to see how they do that but I want to see Negan (Thomas in BvS) as Batman & them going with the Snyderverse. I feel like everything with Ezra, some things are being played up bc of some ppl or one person if he’s doing all these crazy things whose gonna double check if someone lied? I feel like after all the stuff Joss did during the reshoots/rewrites & the same with the Flash movie, it broke him, making him a victim of WB/Joss too And that helmet makes him look slow… mentally. Not slow as in speed 😂😬 it’s just like when CW first did a fabric suit, the helmet made it look like he belonged in the slower class. My theory of what happened at the end of the Flash movie: in the process of Dark Flash trying to restore the timeline to his liking for all those years while having all those universes collapse onto each other when Barry Allen finally gets it right to let his mom die to preserve to HIS liking and runs back to the timeline he thought he was going to (his own), he inadvertently ends up in the Clooney-verse by mistake. Clooney-Batman is a Batman that WB will never ever dare revisit. Ezra Miller being in a universe with that Batman, ie. a Flash that WB will never ever dare revisit with reject Batman - yeah. WB locked those two versions of those characters in a far far away dimension and threw away the key. Gunn did well. However, I must say, it’ll be a shame if this is the case. I really liked The Flash, and Ezra Miller was fantastic in it. No one can replace ben affleck ❤ Damn… Hearing Kevin Conroy's voice made me cry a bit. RIP one of the best Batmen. I would LOVE Oscar Isaac as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in either the DCU or the Reeves rims but I would actually like Jon Bernthal to play him in the Reeves films. I know it sounds weird at first, but if you think about it, it could be perfect oop's did it again.

    One thing that popped in my head:
    When you're talking about "Brave and the Bold", you mention that, at some point, the comics make Batman teaming up with other heroes.
    If my memory doesn't fail, the whole plot for Zack Snyder wanted all the DC movies revolve around Superman: He appears in Man of Steel, it brings Batman to the plot in Batman v Superman, it should be dead in the end of Justice League and it would show the ramifications around all the other heroes till Superman comes back.
    So it looks like James Gunn want to do something like that, using Batman as the spine for the universe. By teaming Batman with other heroes, they could bring all the heroes and see if Batman + "Hero of the hour" works and then branch into the "Hero of the hour" solo movies.

    • @JulioBiason
      @JulioBiason 11 месяцев назад

      But bringing Damian would also be fun 'cause, if they want, they can branch into Titans, as in some stories, Batman sends Damian to join the Titans to learn how to play in a team.

    The problem with Damien since his first adventures as Robin is that Grayson was Batman at that time. That first Batman and Robin run was so awesome because you had the role reversal of Robin being the curmudgeon and Batman being lighthearted and optimistic. Bruce and Damien don’t work as well as Dick and Damien. In my opinion. (Plus Damien was an orphan at that time and now isn’t and that’s a “canon” trait.)

    Clooney was a good Bruce, even though in general the movie made Batman a bit of a joke as well, the point of Bruce was the smarmy rich guy facade, which he played perfect. I'm not sure he has the gravitas for something like Batman Beyond Bruce, though.
    (Long ago) I kinda liked Tom Selleck for the Dark Knight Returns version, before the Blue Bloods days. It very well may be because in the book Bruce had grown a mustache in retirement, then as Batman was crawling out from him again, Bruce suddenly became aware (someone) had saved it. At the time I was thinking Tom, he had gone through a period of shaving off his famous mustache. So while I don't think he could do DKR Bruce/Batman, I could see Tom do Beyond Bruce.

I’m torn abt the movie, bc Keaton is back as Batman & I want to see how they do that but I want to see Negan (Thomas in BvS) as Batman & them going with the Snyderverse.
    I feel like everything with Ezra, some things are being played up bc to some ppl or one person if he’s doing all these crazy things whose gonna double check if someone lied?
    I feel like after all the stuff Joss did during the reshoots/rewrites & the same with the Flash movie, it broke him, making him a victim of WB/Joss too
    And that helmet makes him look slow… mentally. Not slow as in speed 😂😬 it’s just like when CW first did a fabric suit, the helmet made it look like he belonged in the slower class.

    I still think it would be a lot of fun if Grant Gustin was tapped to play the movie Flash; I'm sure he wants to do something else but he was good at it.
    The CW really didn't give The Flash a lot of great stuff, so this could be a chance to make up for it; and no one liked CW's Iris West, it'd be nice to see Barry w/ a new one. They could have a lot of fun with it too, poking fun at things like how the key to everything is "Run Barry, Run" or punching something really hard with a running start. Or how CW Flash's actual superpower is his ability to talk minor villains down and see the light.

    Agree 100%. The Bat family is long over due for the big screen.

    My guess would be Clooney remains as the Batman of the DCEU universe but will never see him again. Aquaman 2 will be the last movie set in that universe and Gunn will be free to create whatever kind of universe he wants with the DCU.

    But why is Barry's time-travel to the past in ZSJL did not cause any major change in that universe?
    Why is the time travelling sequence in the past by Barry is so different in ZSJL and in The Flash movie? There's no chronoball in ZSJL.
    Someone please explain this.
