#IndianaJones5 #EasterEggs #EndingExplained
This is a movie with time travel, but it’s really a story about regret. When you ask someone what they woul'd do if they could go back in time, you’ll get one of two answers. There are people who say they want to go back, meet Jesus, see the fall of Rome, or dinosaurs, or you might answer with something personal-I want to go back in time and stop myself from murdering all those people.
Doug: Whoa that went dark.
The second kind of time travel is based on regret-and in this movie, everyone is living with regret. Voller wants to change the course of the war, Helena wants to get rich so her father's life means something-and no one is living with more regrets than Indiana Jones. After not knowing his son for decades, he loses him to the Vietnam war. His marriage has fallen apart. His adventures haven't made him rich, or famous-he’s just a cranky old professor who’s behind the times.
I know a lot of you probably didn't like the time travel plot-but I loved it. It was so fitting that a man who spent his life chasing history finally catches it, and then like a dog chasing cars [joker, wouldn't know what to do if I got one].
So this theme of regret is expressed through time and time travel. For Indiana in 1969, time is running out. He’s getting older, and he has to redeem the failures of his past. How he failed Tobey Jones, and how he failed Marion.
But let’s get into the breakdown and easter eggs, then we’ll talk about that ending. This is gonna be fun. The movie begins with the sound of a ticking clock, which acknowledges the theme of time, time running out, but also sets up that all of this is preordained to happen-that events are all part of the same ticking clock.
The opening sequence was thrilling, good old fashioned Indiana Jones, out of the frying pan and into the fryer action. This is our first time actually seeing Indiana in world war 2-the original movies took place in the 1930s, and in crystal skull we learned about indy’s ww2 exploits-we were in the OSS-basically the pre-CIA.
Just like every Indy film, they slowly reveal INdy’s face-this time showing a damn good CGI de-aging of Harrison ford. Come a long way since this [prof x cu scream]. Indy does a bad German accent-following up how bad he was with accents in last crusade [come to see tapestries].
So this opening sequence is about the Nazis stealing a religious artifact that is supposedly the spear that pierced Jesus while he was on the cross. This is the exact kind of macguffin that indy would hunt in a previous movie-a well-known, judeo-christian artifact. But in this movie the spear is a red herring, and the real prize is clock that represents time. As the movie progressive,we see that time is the most precious resource Indiana has. Time with his friends, time with his wife.
Indy’s ultimate lesson is that he has to let go of the past and focus on his future. Sure,he thinks he wants to stay with Archimedes, but INdy never gets what he wants. The ark, the stones, the grail-all of them are macguffins to teach indiana about the value of love, friendship, and family.
Doug: And what was the crystal skull there to teach him?
I’ll save that for another video. Point is INdy never gets to keep the treasure, because the treasure was always beside him, all along. So I thought the spear misdirect was very clever.
I’m not going to break down this whole opening sequence, But i want to note a few highlights, like this [indy knocking window, punching guy]. And the fact that indy is back to mureting lots and lots of nazis. Red letter media pointed out that one problem with crysta' skull is that indiana jones murdered very few people-so it's heartwarming to see him back ati, and killing again.
Doug: Should…should I be worried about you?
There’s a moment when tobey jones is going through indiana’s bag, we see a picture of Marion. Now remember, this would have been a few years after Raiders, when he was a single man. This is a very sweet way to show that Indy carried a torch for her all those years, and she was always the one. - Кино
What did you think of the movie?
Very good movie for all the right reasons and points you say in the video but one Exeption there has never being a consensuous on Henry Jones the 3d being good or not neither a reyection on the 5th
I still believe the fact indi has the dial after all could posibly be that Helena left it there for him to probably. Go back in time and prevent his son to go Vietman
@@EntretenimientoConPerspectiva Jesus Christ, did you actually get paid to say that?
@@doomjuan4892 hi! Noo
I don’t understand: a main reason he went on the adventure, was because he would be framed for the murders of the hunter collage staff. Everyone who could have proved his innocence died in the plane crash, so he should still have gotten arrested upon returning back thru time.
Archimedes tricks time travellers just like Helena tricks people with her deck of cards, making them believe they can pick the date or card they want when in fact it's already picked for them
Exactly, you get it. They never had a choice with what time period they went to.
Helena even says that Archimedes set it up like a forced deck of cards.
@@Sabacc I saw it in french. They're much clearer about it in english apparently. My bad, I should have checked the original version first.
A perfect example alongside the other power hungry villains of this series who tried to harness a power they didn't understand for evil purposes and it ends up costing them their lives. Great theme, and this movie is good!
You’re right, they were destined to meet him
There was another Easter Egg you missed. When Indy asks Helena why she's chasing after the artifact that drove her father mad, she responds saying "wouldn't you do the same thing?" This alluded to The Last Crusade when Indy helped his father find an artifact that he obsessed over, The Holy Grail.
In Raiders, Indy returns to Marion’s life because he’s looking for a piece her father collected. Now Wombat returns to Indy’s life looking for a piece her father collected. Kind of a fun echo.
I also liked the bit where he asked her if she was going to risk her life to find something her dad was obsessed with. Her answer, wouldn’t you? Is kind of what Last Crusade is about.
🤯🤯🤯
I noticed that (about Crusaders) too! However, he only goes looking for the Grail once his father has gone missing. I think he avoided hunting the grail until then, probably out of defiance/resentment for his father’s obsession.
Yeah, that line and Indy’s face gave me chills.
Seeing the mixture of timelines and seeing planes flying over ancient armies on the big screen made me feel like a kid again 😅
Technically it's a dragon
honestly i thought i was gonna hate that so much, but i felt giddy watching it. surprised myself. i even imagined indy traveling through time to other historic events
@@Drewsarchus That’s the adventuring spirit!
Wouldn't that mess up the future thoe?
Later, Tony and Doug from The Time Tunnel show up...
I liked how the movie made us think the climax was going to be in one place and time and took a left turn to something else entirely. Overall a good movie.
Personally I thought the final shot of Indy grabbing his hat at the last minute was letting the audience know he'll go on more adventures but we won't get to see them. Similar to Ash vs Evil Dead's ending in that the hero will keep on doing their thing. Seemingly open-ended but not really at the same time.
I thought that last shot was a humorous nod to he and Marion getting romantic haha. Like maybe she asked him to put the hat on ya know lol.
I assumed they were going to go catch up to the others to go get ice cream 😂
@@pcurryii Let's go Marion before they run out of cookies and cream!
I liked that too. To many shows, stories, and movies love killing off the main person “just because” these days. Its nice to see the good guy gets to kick back and be happy after what they’ve been through.
Our family enjoyed it. Thank you for not ranting about what's wrong about every new redo like so many others. Yes, there are flaws. However, being able to bring my fam to an Indy film like my dad did 40 years ago has tremendous value... and well worth our time.
Indy is now old, depressed, divorced, and suicidal after Mutt dies in Vietnam. Fleabag comes in and says lets get a dial. She tries to get Indy murdered twice, by locking him in with Nazis who also want the dial to go back and kill Hitler. They find the dial, but the Nazi's steal it, so Indy and Fleabag go after the Nazis to save Hitler. They all go back to 212 BCE in WW2 Bombers because the dial only goes back to that specific point in time. One bomber gets shot down by arrows and doesn't change the past. Indy also gets shot, says let me die in peace, I have nothing to live for. Fleabag says no, you'll change the past if you die here. Fleabag then performs some elder abuse, and Indy wakes up in NY back in 1969, depressed, suicidal, and alone. Then in walks Marion, and he's then depressed, suicidal, but no longer alone.
The End.

Loved the movie. Always been an Indy fan since I saw the original in '81. One interesting Easter egg you missed was at the end when Sallah leaves Indy and Marion alone, you can hear him singing the same song he sang in Raiders when they were getting on the ship
Yup I caught that one as well. Loved the movie. Don’t understand all the hate reviews. I plan to see it again.
Loved the movie? Because Disney uses the good Indy movies to give you a moment of nostalgia? The movie is garbage.
That's nice. Still loved it. To each their own, dude.
And I live for nostalgia.
I loved it, too. I love all five of the films to be honest. I’d rank this as my third or fourth favourite.
As an Ancient and Medieval historian, I totally get Indy's sentiment wishing to stay and watch it al unfold! I absolutely love the time travel plot! Just a fun fact for you: so the holy lance in the opening scene is the 8/9th century one from the Hofburg Palace Treasury at Vienna. Though it is likely somewhat later from the Ottonian period. The fake one, an actual replica, is at the Rathaus in Aachen (Charlemagne's Aula Palatina). But ugh... how the hell did Indy end up at Hunter College. Things did not go well! Another fun easter egg only a medievalist would spot: the late medieval altar piece/miniature (Christ's crucifiction) that was originally in Jones sr.'s house is now in Indy's house, somewhat unceremoniously placed on his desk. The image is significant because it connects the the intro of the Holy Lance directly to Indy's father.
I too was disappointed by the choice of Hunter College right up there with Massachusetts Maritime Academy for archeology....which might of been a better choice given the plot!
I’ll look up the Rathaus in Aachen. I remembered my Charlemagne: let the armies be my rocks and the birds and trees in the sky.
This is THE first positive review I have seen on You Tube - i dont understand all the negativity, I absolutely loved the film. I have watched many of the reviews after watching the film and have noticed they all say exactly the same things, its as though they havent actually seen the film, or as if only one person has and then sent everyone else the negative narrative to repeat, as though they dont want it to be successful.
My thoughts are, if you have been an Indiana Jones fan all your life, ignore the neysayers and go and watch him this one last time, you wont regret it - oh and unlike the majority of the the doom mongers the opening section was my least favourite part, too much like a computer game for me but still done really well.
Your 100% correct,.
RUclips algorithms mean that negative reviews actually attract more "likes" then positive one and that equals more $$$ for ripple whom are just insufferably unhappy about ,.well EVERYTHING,.
There are literally entire channels on RUclips designed to be unhappy and BITCH about everything and I don't really how people continue to fall for it,..
and this movie was FUN FUN FUN!!
@@terryshrk This is 100000% correct. These grifters masquerading as “critics” know their target demographic are typically single, white men who are emotionally immature, so their easy-in is through nerd culture. This is why you never hear them discuss much outside of the realm of Star Wars/Marvel/Disney/Lord of the Rings, because they know they won’t successfully pander their message towards…rational adults.
As you say amazing film at the end I was stuck in my seat in cinema ,I wanted to watch it again.
Full surprise at all the negative comments on the film .
Now this video is a deeper insight into the time travel aspect you could not make it up.
I've flagged every channel that negatively reviewed it to not be recommended to me in the future. So, they can trash the film all they want, but I'll never click on their channel again. It's not that I don't find it reasonable that some reviewers wouldn't like the film and have valid reasons not to, but as you said, it's like an organized smear campaign with the same ridiculous arguments for why it's "bad" in every review.
The scene with him and Marion with the Raiders call back almost had me in tears.
As it did I.
I cried the moment she walked in the door and cried even more during the "call back scene" of where doesn't hurt.
Beautiful ending.
It got me too
Same.❤
I’m a 51 year old man and I shed a tear. I really enjoyed the end and how they wrapped up his story.
Spoiler. The dial did not stay in the past with archemedes. She said he had to make his own. He did get to take a gander at it. You see it sitting on the table in his apartment when they go back showing that she doesn't sell it either. Showing she has grown a bit as well.
I liked "you are German, don't try to tell a joke" or something like that.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I could have sworn it showed Archemedis with the dial in his home when the planes showed up.
I don't like time travel plots because of the paradoxes involved. If the airplanes and watch were on Archemedis' tomb when Indy and Helena found it, then that means the events had already happened. Indy and the others would have already been there and had recollections of being there. But they COULDN'T have been there because they didn't exist yet. Yet Archemedis documented their visit. So Indy and the gang would have already experienced it too.
That being said, I was expecting them to make some reference to the Lance and why/how it was replaced with a fake.
Agreed, Helena told him he has to make his own and took it back to 1969 and it was on the table. If he didnt make the dial it would never exist in the first place.
Yeah good catch. Helena actually grows a lot in the last hour or 45 min of the movie. Instead of a god daughter in name only (which she funnily denies earlier in the movie) she really grows to see Indy as a true father figure, someone to learn from and to genuinely care about. I really liked that aspect and how her character growth was connected directly to the things she learned from Indy.

You have to stay for the end credits to listen to the gorgeous John Williams score. So proud of my friends and colleagues out in LA who recorded!
We did stay to listen to the legend John Williams music to Indy 5 during the end credits.
I bought the score and listening to it in isolation is really great!
The storage room at Indy’s college reminded me of a smaller version of the Area 51 warehouse at the end of ROTLA. He has all these items stowed away and hidden in this labyrinth of artifacts.
More like Fate Of Atlantis
Yes, nearly every frame of this film was a call back to one of the other films because this film is garbage.
What is ROTLA? that storage room reminded mo of something but I could not pinpoint.

Indy in directly kills the CIA agent with 🩼. Why is that guy there? Is he a bad guy? He gets crushed.
That post-credits sequence idea is awesome. While it could never live up to Indy, I still would love to see a Mutt Williams/Short Round spin-off.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this review! I saw the movie today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am tired of all the negativity I’ve seen about the film. It’s refreshing to instead see positivity.
Noticed in the shot with his father's photo on the mantle (shelf?) there is a folded American flag that they give out to the parents of fallen soldiers, which blends in to the background but is a clue as to what happened to Mutt.
I enjoyed it for what it was and thought they did a great job of showing the effects of getting old for an adventurer.
The only things I would really change are the length of some of the chase scenes, and the fact that Short Round didn't show up and wasn't mentioned.
Honestly when he was talking about the boat captain that was a diver, I was really hoping it would be Short Round grown up.
Still, Antonio did a great job!
Totally agree with on that. I don't think Ke Huy Quan had really come back to acting yet when they started on this movie. He would have just finished filming Everything Everywhere All at Once which was his big return. You're so right that he would have fit that part though! If only timing lined up better.
I was expecting Catanga honestly. Was a bit disappointed they didn't give Sallah a bigger part, considering it took place in Morocco
I was so hoping for a Short Round cameo. The young boy felt like a nod to the character.
@nyceflix Yes, there were very obvious similarities between the Moroccan kid and Short Round. Considering the original plan was to have Phoebe Walter-Bridge takeover the franchise, it kind of made sense to do a nod to the original trilogy.
They had a whole conversation about Mutt enlisting and dying while on the boat and how it lead to him and Marion separating. Also at the beginning when he was on the run the news report about him mentioned he had recently lost a son.
Audience applauded at the end and I got teary with him and Marion. That scene was gold
It's the same scene from Raiders. They just reused the dialogue. Every reboot does this. Remix beats from the original...manipulate audience..collect cash. Nothing new here.
@@brotherofjunk it was meant to be them showing that that moment meant something to them
Bad fan service that was poorly set up. Felt tacked on
Our audience applauded as well.
We had applause in our theater too!
Okay I looked it up. Mutt officially died in the Vietnam War. But there are some stories of people being declared dead, full military funeral and everything, only to turn up alive later. So there is a little wiggle room to bring Mutt back in the future because there is no mention of having a body to bury.
That's what I was thinking. Is he a POW? Taken to the Soviet Union (Iron Eagle 4).
Loved it. Very impressed with how well Harrison Ford performed physically and the special effects were awesome.
I thought I had this movie figured out going into it and I was way off. This was much better than I expected!

I saw Indy’s hat at the end as hanging up his hat for good…and then he snatched it back because he again has a sense of wanting to participate in life again.
But I do think this is definitely the last Indy movie.
@@Lance37a I agree and Harrison Ford has confirmed that. I think the hat is more representative of his change of attitude to his life.
a shame they didn't have a Indy/ Short Round reunion in it.
My heart DROPPED when you mentioned a post credits scene 😂
I liked it a lot, still at the number 4 slot. I started to think before they entered the fissure that either Indy or Voller would have become Archimedes, would have been an interesting twist. I also did not dislike Crystal Skulls, just certain parts of it as I felt that that aliens wasn't really that big of a stretch considering what Indy had experienced previously.
Finally a review that didn’t absolutely hate it. I actually kind of liked this movie!
I thoroughly loved this movie. Got the goose-bumps when the music started! Was very nice to see Indy and the gang back on the big screen, and what an awesome move, and what an adventure! Got to see it on Opening Day! Once it comes out on DVD, I'll definitely add it to my collection.
You got me with that possible post credits, Mutt being rescued by Short Round. Make it happen, Paramount!!!
Your review and connections to the other movies is fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and need to see it again after this video! Thanks for all of your efforts.
This is the first time I see Indiana Jones with fear, and confusion in his eye in contrast with the previous movie where he was always brave, and very confident when facing difficulties situations.
In all fairness, Indy is an old man here
It's utter shite
I don’t think anyone can really prepare for time travel 😂 Indy’s not bill and Ted
That's the goal, tear down the old main character so they can build up and usher in the new one. Not for me 👎
It's the Disney way
During the scene where Helena was reading the code in the boat ,all I could think of was the anaconda malt liquor scene from black dynamite.
Anaconda Malt Liquor gives you a little Richard!
😂😂😂 what makes no sense is the service around here! Bitch do you see us?!
You always find a way to make the movies better. Thks.
Absolutely loved it!! So glad I saw it in a theater.
This was way better than the youtube community would have you believe. Was it great? No. Was it good? Yes. It was respectful to Indy despite what others would say, and Fleabag was annoying but not overly so that it got in the way.
I would disagree wholeheartedly. I thought the de-aging was obvious and weird. I thought the Helena character was a mess. The script felt like 12 scripts hammered together. The villain kept showing up with no explanation. The Short Round knock off kid was ridiculous and nearly offensive. The second we saw him pretending to fly a plane we knew he would be flying a plane. The action sequences went on for way too long. All of the fan service was sad. And the final set piece was a giant bung hole in the sky?? Then the movie just ...ends?? Nope.
Fleabag being annoying felt like the whole point to me, given how many times she gets called out for being a criminal and making poor decisions. It's not until they reach the boat that her and Indy have some time to actually talk where she gets any real growth as a character. I do think the character has more pressing issues, namely the fact that I never really had enough time to buy that the two of them were godfather and goddaughter at any point, which is the unfortunate result of introducing a "best friend" type of character five movies into your franchise, coupled with the film being so driven to get from action scene to action scene.
@@brotherofjunk I thought the de-aging was done very well and yea I also knew the kid would end up flying a plane so that was predictable. The guy sleeping in the plane was there to help us with our suspension of disbelief as that guy could help the kid fly. The tuk-tuk action sequence did overstay it's welcome a little. Overall I liked it enough.
I agree. If Crystal Skull never happened, and this was a one-more-time-30-years-later type of sequel, it would fit nicely in as a fourth installment. There was no attempt to diminish the character of Indian Jones beyond the limitations of his age, which wasn’t even that limiting of a factor 😆
This movie was fun, and that’s all it needed to be. Some people want you to believe that Indiana Jones is some sort of sacred, perfect masterpiece when it isn’t. It’s a fun series of pulpy movies that each have a ton of their own flaws, but we looked past them because of how fun they were. They’re just movies.
By great, you mean you're too young to have watched Raiders in the theater, and really have no clue what "good" or "better" is...

@@thecunninlynguist it isn’t exempt from criticism. But people like what they like and that shouldn’t be a bad thing. The film has flaws but there are plenty of us willing to look past those flaws and simply enjoy the ride. Not everything needs to be serious and cynical.

Lil Doug having a tough time saying "water displacement" was just the cutest thing.
I enjoyed the movie. It’s not the best IJ movies, but I felt good about it.
One of things I noticed was the frieze on Archimedes tomb. The dragon scripture, looked like the eagle in the German/Nazi symbols. The kind of symbols that would have been found on the fallen Nazis in the Battle of Syracuse. So seeing an eagle with propellers was a direct reference to the plane and Nazis in it.
I also thought that when Helena tells Indiana in the past that he needs to go back to his time because he will change history. The fact that the planes are now stuck in the past alters history, but it’s never mentioned.
The de-aging has come a long way, but it was still unsettling at parts.
I appreciate all your analysis of all the movies you did good show and RUclips channel
Great synopsis. I think the Crystal Skull is aging better then expected. It has amazing pacing and story arch. The motorcycle chase is as good as any chase scene (which is one of the main elements defined the the franchise) in the first films. Expectations were so high there was no way it wasn’t going to disappoint. Even the absurd Tarzan sequence falls well within the realm of possible in the Jones’s-verse.

Another Excellent Superb Job!!!!!!!
This movie's use of the old trope of a historical figure leaving treasure maps and puzzles in his tomb actually makes a lot of sense in the story.
Archimedes knew he needed people to find the thing, but only the right people and at the right time.
Really loved the movie and thank you so much for a fully rounded precis. Having been a fan since Raiders, I did everything I could to avoid any online opinions - and I'm glad I did. The negativity I've since been reading makes me think I've seen a completely different film to those 'critiques'. It treated Indy exactly correctly: a man out of time with the fast changing world around him. I felt sorry for him at a few points, and while it could be argued that Wombat carried the movie in alot of places, I think that was necessary: to have had a old Indy doing the kinds of physical things he did in his younger days would have been ridiculous. The movie was a great final act for the character.
Another excellent video!
See, this is why I always love your breakdowns above everyone elses, because it isnt just thorough, it is also empathetic to what the creators wanted to do rather than 'I would have preferred it this way', which is a value I share. Between you and Chris Stuckman, I honestly don't need many other reviewers. You two are my go-Tos.
I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm interested in the loss of Mutt. Was there a body? If not, could he be MIA and prisoner somewhere in Nam?

Same here. I saw it last night & a lot of this flew over my head because the film moves at such pace. I think I'd enjoy a second viewing much more after watching this.

I hope more people would also use "The Final Countdown" as an example of "Events that were supposed to happen". :)
Thank you for not being one of the unhappy man-baby haters of this film. There seems to be a lot of them. This film was good! It was very very good and a touching ending with Indy and Marion. Go Hunter! I'm a Hunter Collage archeological grad school drop out. Hunter in NYC does have a prestigious archeology grad school and I was happy they used it in the movie.
Simp
I agree. Some people have been really weird. If you don’t like a film, move on. Don’t make 10 RUclips videos lambasting it 😂
Great video!
This was a great review.
I loved your video! Some really great points on the details from this film. If I can suggest another amazing example of time travel, Prisoner of Azkaban (tho it’s fantasy) has some of the best logic I’ve come across, as well as the German Netflix show Dark
Thank you for this! You perfectly encapsulate what I felt viscerally in the theater. it's been awhile since a movie got to me, emotionally, like the ending of this one did. But you put it to words. Cheers!
Awesome breakdown!!
Loved it Rian!
"Evil cannot create anything new. It can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made."
- JRR Tolkien
This isn't a quote from Tolkien, the following is though:
“The Shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own. I don't think it gave life to the orcs, it only ruined and twisted them, and if they are to live at all, they have to live like other living creatures.”
Cringe
@@frankiefadda me quoting an actual source is cringe ?
@@christopherbuckley5929yes? Lmao. Just cause you “quoted a source” doesn’t mean it can’t be dumb and also cringe. You didn’t even quote the source material correctly so good job I guess.
I like your breakdown of everything. Taught me things I didn’t know, and made me think about others. But my biggest gripe with the movie is that Indiana has no agency. He doesn’t take action; decisions are made for him. Like his desire to stay in the past. Helena decides for him that he should return to 1969. She’s the one who brings Marion back. It’s not like Indy calls Marion out of his own volition. While I thought the movie was fine and I liked the third act, I didn’t care much for what happens after Helena punches Indy unconscious.
There’s also a photo of his son next to his fathers and a folded flag. A small detail that foreshadows Indy later explaining Mutt’s fate
And at the end of the film when they pan to that wall the Flag and the Pictures are Gone.. not there. They don't tell you what year in the 60's they came back to.
It's not gone, just the angles are different so you don't see it. Each shot is carefully framed to achieve this so it's for the viewer to take from the scene what they want.
This video was great ! I loved it ❤
By now I’ve said it countless times, but I would love to see a rebooted Young Indiana short series/movie. I know Disney already talked about and then dropped the idea, but it’s so nostalgic for me and my childhood.
Haven’t watched this movie, but from the scenes I saw in this video, it looks like more of a return to the old style of adventure movies.
I want a Mutt spin off, while i didn't think Crystal Skull lived up to its predecessors, it still felt like Indy just a smaller scale story and I loved Shia in it.
Thanks for this video. I think this film was vastly underappreciated!
Lol you had me with the post credit scene 🤣
I didn't love the film, but it was still a good ride I think. I want to see it again to let it sink in. To me the first half felt clunky while the second much more on par with what I hoped for. I always look for rewatch-ability whenever I see a film like this for the first time and I'm worried this won't have it. Ryan's review here gave me a much better perspective on some things I wasn't crazy about in the moment of watching so, as always, big kudos to the ScreenCrush crew!
It only started getting good at the time travel part but it was too short
Its better with a second viewing honestly it was for me
Well done Ryan! I was satisfied with Indy 5.
Loved the more positive review/explanation. Had a lot of fun with this movie.
Love this review!!!!
I knew I shoulda waited for a post credit scene!
Now i will forever see that scene in my head😀😀😃
Thanks for the fun and insightful explanation of this magical cinematic experience that swept me off my feet like a true Indiana Jones movie. Yes, of course we want more of it!
Thank you for another great review as always ryan I personally love this film I'm huge indy fan have been my whole life. I understand people frustration, about the movie ,but I had a blast watching I really enjoyed indie adventures coming full circle! It was saddened about Mudd im glad we got this film the way we got it was beautiful ,and perfect film. I loved how happy the leader of the nazis was celebrating with a smile to indy , Marion at the end was heartwarming ❤.
Utter bull💩 no one who is a huge indy fan can love this abomination..no one
Great video, it actually makes me appreciate the film more.
Well done 👍
There is a Holy Hand Grenade easter egg in the shelves in the back room at the university. Right before Indy pulls out the half of the dial for Helena.
Did you see the Holy Hand Grenade in Ready Player One as well?
Glad I’m not the only one who saw this Easter egg in the movie!
I gotta say I wasn't blown away by Dial of Destiny. In fact, I liked Crystal Skull better. However, you have enlightened me on some things I didn't think about in Dial of Destiny that I may consider on second viewing when I own it. Thank you for opening my mind up to other interpretations. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos.
I just seen the new movie yesterday and was very happy with it! This Screen Crush review really made more sense of it. I mean Ryan you and Doug are dynamite when it comes to break downs and explaining endings! I mean I been planning on watching this video after seeing it. I thought they were doing deep fake on Harrison but still doing the de-aging they did at the introduction looked good. I loved the action on the train that got my attention right away! I knew what they were incorporating into some of the movie that I thought was very well done. I too enjoyed the time travel aspect of it and loved it especially when they didn't end up going to the time the villain was aiming for that I found amusing. I liked how we all were surprised when they ended up in the Roman times. It had me concerned when the one plane went down and when Indy said he wanted to stay I was like no way Indy but all it took was that good knock out from his God daughter and then he wakes up like it was all a dream bringing a truly beautiful ending that is satisfying for Indiana Jones fans especially if this is indeed the last film. What's funny is I thought about staying until the end of the credits and usually do for many movies but I didn't for this one because I figured that it probably is the last Indiana Jones movie and when I watched it again at home I could always do so then just in case to see if there was so Ryan you had me at the end of this.
Loved this moive !
I truly loved this movie, like all of them even KOTCS. Your explanation of this movie and the ending is truly amazing, you get it as do I. I can’t wait to see it again.
It should have ended with the Last Crusade, there you go, ending explained.
It should never end!
Awesome movie. Good review.
You got me. I just left the theater & I didn't wait for an end credit scene.
I liked it. A fun adventure. I'd love to see more WW2 Indy adventures, recast or deep faked, so long as they're creative.
I know right? That opening felt like the train level from Medal of Honour Frontline
🙄
I would love a full movie with de aged Harrison Ford.
Something beautiful about an archaeologist becoming a relic. Harrison Ford is a Legend!!!
Great video. I didn't like the movie much, but this video helped me understand it more.
Excellent analysis
I'm with you in not knowing how it would turn out. It felt like a real possibility that they'd get to the past and it would turn out that one of them would have to become Archimedes so everything could happen. But only Voller would have the math knowledge, but he would do horrible things. So I was very curious to watch it all play out.
It occurred to me part way into the film that they didn’t start the movie with a view of a mountain peak, like they’ve done in every other Indy film. The last scene off the film revisits the boat/dock scene in Raiders, including Salah singing “Monarch of the Sea” as he and Phoebe take the kids for ice cream.
The mountain peak was always a tie in to the Paramount Pictures logo, and Paramount isn’t associated with this film.
I noticed that right away, but they did still do a transition from a logo into a door lock, I think. Still a bummer they didn't keep the OG transition
@@TheyreDeadDave
Regardless, it’s still part of the signature aspects of the film series.
They transitioned from the Lucasfilm logo after the Paramount one, which I think was a purposeful humorous diversion. I chuckled when I caught it.
I noticed that instantly, because I was anticipating it and was waiting to see what they would do. They did put the Paramount logo in there, but I think they could have transitioned from the Disney castle, into the castle in Europe. Another thing that irked me was not stating the location and year in the opening sequence, and not showing the flight route to Morocco. But I do love that they finally put subtitles on the foreign parts.
But yeah, not having the mountain transition was like not having the gun barrel opening in Bond.
Loved the movie, and thanks for the vid!
I'm so glad you mentioned the "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" thing.. I immediately thought of that song smirked a bit, but figured maybe I was reaching.
ScreenCrush crushed this review. So well done. Regarding the movie, I liked it. It was very entertaining. I saw all previous Indy movies when they came out so I am a fan. This is a different movie as it should be because the main character is different. I appreciate that he played his age, depending on others, not being popular or famous, or as quick and confident, but wiser although living with regrets and disappointments. People might even make choices for you that you don't want but are good for you. That is a lesson in aging for all of us. I get that from this movie.
The ending was re-written and re-shot. That's the explanation.
You got me for a sec with the post credit gag XD
I loved the movie and plan on seeing it again. I liked your breakdown and explanations 👍🏼
I saw Raiders in the theatre and loved it. This one was just as much fun as the original trilogy. What a great surprise. Satisfying!
