So Indiana Jones is one of those franchises that I feel had the perfect ending. After the prequel Temple Of Doom got some backlash at the time, Steven Spielberg wanted to send the character out on a high and that third film was developed as a direct response to the first two. Titled The Last Crusade this would have Indy riding off into the sunset to get what's arguably the perfect ending for a character in Hollywood.
However just like the character couldn't leave the past buried, the studios came in and decided that we needed another one.
    enough enough
Spielberg even went on record and said he was unsure about the whole ending involving aliens and you can see they played up the fact that they're interdimensional beings.
The Crystal Skull has a lot of bad feelings around it and it definitely felt like the character went out on his back. However rumours circulated that we'd be getting one more movie and I have to admit when I heard who was attached I started thinking we were back.

And yes it answered the questions of what happened to Marion and his Son but he grabs the hat at the end! So does that mean we havnt seen the last of him? He's in his 80s!?! 16:28, I will say, at least with Crystal Skull, while Henry and Marcus passed and the Red Scare era left Indy being wrongfully suspected of treason to the point of disrupting his teaching career, in every other aspect, Indy repeatedly proves to everyone that doubts him that he isn’t some irrelevant relic nor does he view himself as one. He constantly demonstrates being competent and driven even despite his struggles, most notably in how he while he indirectly mentors Mutt on their journey together. And while he may initially come off as sad and alone, he ends the film with a new family and having come full circle from repairing his strained relationship with his father to developing a relationship with his son (which work well in fitting with Indy’s character arc from the treasure hunter obsessed with fortune and glory to someone who primarily values the people around him. Instead of missing the past, Indy instead finds a shot at a brighter future.

Just left the theater. Harrison ford still has it. He is Indiana. That said, this movie was not needed. I went in with low expectations and I feel I didn’t set them low enough. Phoebes character seems not phased by anything happening. Never scared or shocked. Even in the end shots. Then to suddenly care for Jones in the end after shitting all over him. I think the way she treated Jones sums up the movie. They shit on his character but then felt
It necessary to try to save the franchise. The similarities of how they handled Han solo are uncanny. Broken man, lost son, causes stress on relationship with wife. Goes back to old life. Comes off washed up. It all comes off as shit writing. I feel it was written by a committee. I left feeling the way I did with the force awakens. Happy to see my hero but sad to see how they handled it. 😢

I saw it yesterday and it was fun. Sure, no as good as Raiders and Crusade, but just as fun as Doom, at least for me and the people I saw it with. This another instance of a movie that’s better than what critics or RUclipsrs say. The Last Crusade was the perfect ending for the franchise. But we all know that in a capitalist economy dependent on consumerism nothing never really ends. These type of movies are cash grabs for the studios, but that’s not always the case for the artists (directors, actors, writers, etc). When I watch these movies I
tune down my cynicism and tune up my suspension of disbelief. At the end of the day, anyone that dislike this film can ignore it in the future and just watch the original trilogy. It is not that complicated.

On that note, why does a film have to "justify its existence"? This phrase was mentioned more than once and, while I see that being a consideration for the financiers and the studio....as a movie-goer, I don't understand the question. The justification for any film (from the consumer standpoint) is to be entertaining and/or thought-provoking. That's why we go to the theater. This film was definitely entertaining; I don't think anyone could objectively say otherwise. That's all the justification required, I think.

Just got home and let me say this. Me and my friends love it. I dislike to see how many of the "veteran fans" are coming out to ridicule this film. It's a good to honest end for Indy as a character rather than Crystal Skull in my opinion. The movie contains a lot of the hallmarks of the franchies and I honestly wish people stopped putting unreasonable expectations on this film.
1989 was a while ago and it's 2023. And as far as I can say this film is a diamond amongst the other crappy films out here.

I also had low expectations going into seeing it. While I knew that it would be better than Crystal Skull or even Temple of Doom, I knew that it could not capture the shear brilliance of Raiders and Last Crusade, which are masterpieces. The opening sequence is definitely the best part of the film, as we see Indy killing and beating up nazis, unlike in Crystal Skull where Indy doesn’t even fire a gun once. The best part about the movie, just like it’s predecessors is, of course Indiana Jones himself: Harrison Ford. Despite his age, really gives it his all in this and still brings a lot of charm and charisma to the role he was born to play. The film itself is a bit long, and I found myself almost nodding off when it got slow, but overall it is entertaining even if the adventure is not on par with raiders or last crusade. However, it’s not nearly as bad as a lot of the people on RUclips made it out to be. And if this is in fact Indy’s final adventure, at least he left off on a good note.

We saw the movie this weekend and enjoyed it. It was good entertainment, and I’m glad we saw it it in the theater. Harrison Ford is always great, and I’m amazed he can do the amount of physical action at his age, hell, at any age. All the actors did a great job. My only real critique would be the chase scene in the cabs/cars went on way too long. There were so many chase scenes that it got exhausting. And the time travel bit was a little hokey. Not as bad as the aliens in the Crystal Skull, but stretching it a bit towards the unbelievable. I’m with you on Hollywood needing to come up with new characters and ideas. And I don’t mean comic book characters!!! I’m sick of superhero crap. I love the historical archaeology stories. Do that. Too bad they used Shia LaBeauf as his son and then killed him in Vietnam. A “Son of Indy” spin-off would’ve been good.

All reviews say it's bad. But the general Audience seems to really enjoy it. Saw it myself today, and actually liked it. I do have several issues with it. But when you get to the meat of th film, it makes me kinda forget the bad stuff. For most of the film i honestly couldn't stand Indy's God daughter. Shes just a very unpleasent person. So no, shes not one of the better side kicks. Shes the worst. She sort of redeemes herself a tiny bit towards the end as she starts to grow a tiny bit. Yeah, Lucas fikm in 2023 has a female character with some growth. That's groundbreaking for the Disney Kathy era.
I also don't like what they do ti Indy once we catch up with him in 1969. Like, love or hate Crystal Skulls... I think what they did here was just a bit of a Fu*k you to th character. But there's two moments in the film that uses it in a good way. Making you actually feel for Indy.
Overall, i think it's better than reviews gave it credit for. It's not perfect. But it's better than Crystal Skulls. And do keep in mind, i actually liked Crystal Skulls. But this fealt more like a Indy adventure to me. Not just the opening part of the film. But the adventure itself. It fealt more like Indy than Crystal Skulls. So overall, despite it's issues i think it's a fun time. I think it works leaving it off knowing that Indy could still go on adventures. We're just not gonna see them. I prefer that over him passing on the torch or dying. It's sort of like how Uncharted ends. Sure, Nate kinda retires. But they leave it off with him and Elena still doing what they love. Just more legaly and safe. I think it's safe to assume Indy and Marion will go on adventures together again. We may just not see them. And we don't need to. That's his new Happy ending. It's who he is. It's what he loves doing. And he's gonna do it with his wife.
Now i think it would have been better if his son hadn't been killed. And maybe have made the drama more than Marion was angry because Indy was going to fight Nazies again. And have the ending be her realising that it's who Indy is. And then accept that this 80 year old man she loves will do what he has to do. And she decides to join him. It would be better for the characters. And would take away a bit of the iffy feeling the film gave me. But hey, i had a good time in the theater. I actually think the callback to the boat scene in the original was cute. It made me smile

I didn't find it as bad as a lot of people say it is.
But it's definitely sad and bleak. Indiana Jones at its best was always mostly funny and scary at the same time. And this film is neither.
Phoebe Waller Bridge is annoying as hell in this. I kept wishing the Nazis killed her halfway through the movie. She feels totally shoehorned in.
I don't even think she belongs in Indy's team. It would have been much better to have Sallah pair up with Indy and have them both chase both Helena and the Nazis.
And I would have liked to see Indy have some grandkids of his own. Have them and Marion join the quest too.
Apart from that, I liked everything else. The dial of destiny was an excellent plot device.
