I was blessed with a Saint for over 12 years of my life. He turned my fear of dogs into unconditional love, was as imposing as the neighbor's pack of Huskies with whom he'd have the occasional barking match, and would play with me and my younger sister in the backyard. He was smarter than you'd expect from something that took a decade to realize it's no longer a puppy, he got into the heart of everyone, even those who hated animals, and though he lived long, extremely long for his breed, it wasn't enough.
My aunt is sure that the burglar is going to either A) trip over said St. Bernard or B) slip in a puddle if St. Bernard drool. Either way she is safe.😂😂
One of my father's childhood friends used to have St. Bernard. He told me that they used to ride him like a horse and would later take a nap on him once they got tired. Apparently, dog was 100% OK with all that.
Just because the dog allows it does not mean it is okay. It is incredibly bad for their joints and backs to be climbed on. Add to the fact that most people miss the warning signs of a bite before it occurs.
@@daphne10120 Bro, St. Bernard is literally called a nanny dog, and for a good reason. They'd rather maul themselves to death than they would even think about attacking a child. Plus, the dog was massive and they were small kid, like 4-5 years old. The dog lived a long and happy life, only getting sick at the very end.
@@jerryoshea3116 right, to love something is to want what's best for it even if it's not ideal or exactly what you want. That is the ultimate dog lover. Wanting a dog but knowing you couldn't provide the time/space/vet care/food ect. Ect they need. That said, I think a St. Bernard would do ok in an apartment as long as you take them for a couple good long walks daily and regular trips to the dog park or some place they can be off leash and run full out for 45min to an hour. One time we took our St Bernard camping with us. Us kids had to take turns riding in the back of the station wagon with him. I was maybe 6 and I pulled the dishwashing bin over me to protect myself from the Drool... The only thing worse than a saints drool is a nervous Saints copious drooling. I miss him he was a good boy.
When I was a child my great great aunt gave me my first book on dogs. It taught me how to identify each breed of dog. People are often impressed by my skill of telling what type a dog they have. But I always wanted to see a St Bernard. But I only believed them to live in cold climates. Until the day me and my late brother ran into one wandering off leash in the neighborhood. I was shocked. As we were playing with the dog I noticed the massive drool hanging from it's muzzle. The drool was so thick that when the dog lied down for belly rubs the drool went down with it and came back up with dirty. I was like talk about some serious drool that just doesn't drop on the ground.
I live in ga and just got a saint recently. Cold climates are definitely preferable, but because of their lazy behavior, if you live some where that only gets to 90s you should be okay! Just dont walk them at the hotests times of day. If you do live in places like cali or vegas though, maybe steer clear since theyre always pretty hot

I have a St. Berdoodle puppy and this is way to damn accurate. Except the drool so far he isn't too drooly which can probably be attributed to the poodle half.
My cousin had a St Bernard named Barney when we were kids. My goodness was that dog huge, he was like a horse. He loved playing in the snow with us and if either of us ever got hurt he was the first one there. He was such a gentle giant, so caring and sweet. Not a grumpy bone in that dogs body. I miss him still and that was over 20 years ago. Rip Barney 💜
My boy Plop was the biggest, lovable, joyful baby. He also ate and drooled a lot. And was patient with our cat Pookie who used to attack him every time he got the chance. They both are my Joy, my heart
My in-laws owned several St Bernards. They were beautiful big hearted dogs. They lived on property and practically anyone was allowed in, as long as you entered by the proper channels. We still remember that one time a good family friend stepped over the low fence surrounding the back yard instead of going through the gate and suddenly found himself pinned to the back wall of the house by a 90kg dog. She wasn’t angry, just keeping him still until someone gave her the okay. That same dog broke into the laundry for shelter in a storm because the thunder upset her sensitive hearing. She took out half the door to get in.
I used to nap on my childhood st bernard's side as a toddler. He was bigger than me. So big and strong but so gentle. My mom bought 3 screens meant for large breeds to keep him in the boot of the car, which he broke every single time to sit in the back with his head on her shoulder. In the end she gave up and had towels in the car to keep her clothes from being drooled on. I miss my baby boy ❤

When I was a teenager in the mid 1990s I would crash often at the house of my best buddy Tom. When they got a St. Bernard puppy named Heidi she and I became best buddies. I would let her lay on my lap and I would pet her and rub her belly for hours and she liked to sleep on top of my lap. Fast forward to Heidi as a fully-grown St. Bernard of about 170lbs Heidi still loved sleeping on my lap, which was definitely not as comfortable for me as it was when she was a tiny puppy! I still let her though because I wasn’t about to break that sweet, gentle, and loving heart.
