Definitely a different culture then what I'm used to. Not saying it's wrong but personally. If I hadn't been told this was a wedding I'd of thought it was a cross between a 6 year olds birthday and Mardi gras.
The brides dress was big and fancy, but also classy compared to other weddings I've seen posted. All the other girls at the wedding were dressed like they were waiting for their beauty pageant to start..lol
They try to keep with their own people, just like in England.....it’s an island with all the same people and families that are probably somewhat related back many generations

@@oliviamartini9700 I've just looked that up. There is a study on independent.ie from 2003 that suggests "up to 40%" marry cousins in the Mayo area, and there is a piece from the Irish Times from 2018 suggesting that 70% of Travellers live in overcrowded conditions. Are you getting the two confused? Despite very specific searches, based on the information provided, nothing is coming up to validate your assertion that 70% of the entire Irish Traveller community marry cousins. As for there being "over 100 identified genetic diseases within their community", this is true but misleading. Whilst certain mutations are specific to Travellers, we see this same scenario with pretty much every ethnicity and, where the data is collected, it's not uncommon to see similar numbers of regional traits, too. There is no indication that the number of genetic disorders within the Traveller community is higher than any other community group, nor that it is caused by "inbreeding". That is laid out in peer analyses of the Lynch, Crushell et al article that I am assuming you are referring to (as it was published in Vol. 55 of the Journal of Medical Genetics). Please stop spreading misinformation about a culture, based on limited research and a sensationalist TV show.
@@georgina-a The 40% refers to FIRST cousins. The remaining 30% are second or third. Keep that going over many generations and you wind up with Hapsburgs. The Irish Times piece is from 2003 and is titled, "Study Urges Irish Travelers to Seek Genetic Counseling for Cousins Who Marry"; I have no idea what article you're speaking of and frankly resent putting the work in for a lazy and combative naysayer. If you do a bit more research, you'll see that their genetic diseases have increased from 70 to over 100 in just 20 years. And no, that is not common in the general population. Why don't you ask an Irish doctor to clarify this for you? It seems I've rattled your cage on a personal level, whereas I don't really give a toss outside of a mild interest in consanguinity. Just be sure to seek genetic counseling when you and your cousin-husband decide to spawn.

True it's been going on since the beginning of civilization. I just worry about the genetics factor. So many inbred royals had horrible health problems and deformities. Okay, I have a question, genuine curiosity NOT JUDGING. How do the Traveller kids with braces(like the girl in video) keep up with orthodontist appointments? In a few videos, the Traveller families say they move every few weeks, or months. Braces stay on for years. Do they have to find a new ortho every time they move?
From personal experience I can say that marrying a first cousin is extremely unhealthy. My grandparents from my father's side are first cousins (which they supposedly didn't know when they met...). Me and my sister are fine because thankfully my mom's family is free of any incest but my dad and his siblings all came out a bit fucked up. Physically they are healthy but they are all suffering from alcohol addiction and strange self-destructive mental problems, which I don't think is a coincidence. I cut off contact with my dad because of this years ago.
True a lot of incest activity and inbreeding is not consented and often a heavily peer pressured and culture obligation. A lot of people focus only on the idea of physical defects but its more likely to be mental, behavioural and emotional defects first. i have a lot of cousins and never thought of marrying any of them but people i know who kept in the family did so because they were forced to do it.
Firstly, cousin marriage is not incest. Secondly, there’s no cousin marriage in my family and we are certainly not lacking in alcohol abuse and mental problems.
OK. I agree with you all saying the bride is beautiful. That she is. But in my opinion the bridesmaids dresses and the guests dresses look like they are ready to walk the streets. And marrying your 1st cousin. Ummmm. That is a big NOOOOOO.
I've learned that between 10 and 40 percent of travelers marry their first cousins so it's common in their community. I think the range is so large because a lot of the traveler community isn't reported on the census. This is just something I've researched so I could be mistaken!

I wanna know what Thelma did to get thrown out a church forget the dress and cousin part 😂😂
The glitter, shine and colours always baffle me. Everything is just so out there. Crazy.
Her wedding dress was absolutely beautiful!! I've seen some pretty scandalous ones on this show and this was pretty tame and very lovely!
This is the prettiest Gypsy bride I've seen and she also had class. I always wondered if being a Gypsy meant you had to be over-tanned and have questionable makeup taste based off of other Gypsy bride videos I've seen, but her? Astounding. Really beautiful. I can't say I agree with her husband of choice but.. I suppose. Not my marriage😅. Never the less, she is a beauty.
Generally but these are also clips from the 2010s when heavy makeup and tanning were really popular

I love how they throw slight shade “her first cousin”
This is got to be one of the best wedding dresses I've seen a traveller girl wear ❤️
I found it interesting that they smashed up the wedding cake and people were grabbing chunks with their hands and eating it with no plates, forks, or napkins 🤣🤣 I'm all for stuffing my face with cake but not at a wedding lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right but than agian they are all kids so i guess its better that way 😂
Also just wanted to add that I think it's kind of funny how they don't want their daughters to be look that as disrespectful in their Gypsy Community yet they dress them in all these crazy skin tight clothes that show everything
Definitely a different culture then what I'm used to. Not saying it's wrong but personally. If I hadn't been told this was a wedding I'd of thought it was a cross between a 6 year olds birthday and Mardi gras.
She is marrying her first cousin - it is wrong lol
For a traveler gown, it's stunning.
It's hideous
Was stunning.
The brides dress was big and fancy, but also classy compared to other weddings I've seen posted. All the other girls at the wedding were dressed like they were waiting for their beauty pageant to start..lol

I never understood why they have to marry their cousin? Like they hid the cousin they're gonna marry since a young age and push them to date/marry.
Hopefully, their kids don’t have any birth defects.
They try to keep with their own people, just like in England.....it’s an island with all the same people and families that are probably somewhat related back many generations
It keeps their wealth in their family.
They can’t marry outside there culture
Aren't their future kids have birth defects did they consult the doctor about that.
I'm fond of watching gypsy wed vlog. My question is that it's already a 2022 why do they still travel and not stay at one place and settle?
The saddest thing is that all the kids here, As soon as they turn 18 they are shipped off to be married. It’s is the only day that’s viewed as their day or as a crowning achievement. My heart breaks.
16 actually.
Why would your heart break? Nothing beats having a good family, stay at home mom and children. I know it goes against the modern liberal woman. But this is the goal for many cultures. It is a time to celebrate. I assure you they’re happy, and content, and wouldn’t change it for the world.
@@nyquiehall9945 😟
@@gypsymommabear3383 my heart breaks because of not having a choice: There’s nothing wrong with being a home maker but when you look at this video you see that tradition and age severely limits their options. I know certainly at that age that such a decision such as marriage isn’t a good one with such limited world view.
There’s another video where the mother outright cried so much because she knew what life her daughter is signing up for, that family was the only one determined to want more for their daughters and were shunned for it. So my heart breaks because of this..
You said 18 naw most of them get married the day after they turn 16 years old..

You have such nice manners and class. What a stunning bride you are. Best wishes to your family. The wedding dress seamstresses are experts in every way. My grandparents in the USA are from Ireland.
The person in that white and silver dress! That dress was gorgeous.
Those poor babies having to walk in those dresses. 😂😂😂
She makes a stunning bride, the hair, dress & make up looked amazing. All the best to you both xx
I always want to know what the brides do with their huge gowns after the wedding. How do they store them? Do they resell them? And what about the other (bridesmaids) dresses? If I'm a bridesmaid several times a year from a young age on, where and how do I keep the dresses?
I think they keep the main outer dress butbthe underskirts go back to Thelma , so its not as much to store
The last thing I want to hear my cake maker say is "I just burst me blister" 🤮

As of 2018, 70% of Irish traveler marriages were between cousins, and there are over 100 identified genetic diseases in their community.
Can you tell me your source for that information please?
@@georgina-a The Independent, the Irish Times, the Journal of Medical Genetics vol 55 - all of which are available to you to read online.
@@oliviamartini9700 Newsflash, bigot: not every Irish Traveller lives in Ireland. Shocking, I know... 🙄
I merely asked you to explain your reasoning. You have failed to do so, made sweeping generalisations about a culture that you clearly know nothing about, and are using almost 20 year old tabloid journalism and misquoted academic data as justification for your bigotry. Your projection is somewhat amusing, referring to me as "a lazy and combative naysayer" for daring to call you out for lazily misquoting data and making combative comments about a culture and people you are clearly ignorant about. Did somebody hurt you?
I'm a Traveller and idiots like you, spouting utter nonsense and bigotry, fuel unnecessary hatred that has real-life consequences. I've asked you nicely to stop. Continue and I'll view it as a purposeful, hateful statement against a minority group and take the appropriate action.

The bride was so beautiful. The dress was stunning. The cake was a work of art. Those little toddlers in the miniature bridesmaid dresses were adorable. I wish this couple every happiness. As far as marrying your cousin this is a custom in several different cultures around the world. I never judge anyone. It is not anyone else's business.
True it's been going on since the beginning of civilization. I just worry about the genetics factor. So many inbred royals had horrible health problems and deformities. We even know more today than 100 years ago. Again, not judging either just praying they all turn out healthy and their next generation.

I always thought that dowrys were the way the brides family assisted in helping the new couple start out well in their marriage. The dowry could include money, real estate, household materials and (mostly in medieval times) animals.
Why would they hive Thelma and then not allow her at the ceremony?
The priest threw her out, not the family. Otherwise she wouldn't have been at the reception.
The dressmakers were going to report the priest to the pope 🤣🤣🤣

At least they didn't throw it at each other like most other gypsy's do. Very proper.
I have watched many of these episodes. She is stunning! The most beautiful ❤

Beautiful bride and bridal dresses.
So sad that the only dream these girls have is their wedding day...Reality must be a terrible thing when it's all over!
I've learned that between 10 and 40 percent of travelers marry their first cousins so it's common in their community. I think the range is so large because a lot of the traveler community isn't reported on the census. This is just something I've researched so I could be mistaken!
