    Plant Savvy Here!
One of the hottest houseplants of 2020 is the monstera deliciosa, also known as the swiss cheese plant for its dramatic split leaves. You can find it all over Pinterest and Instagram, and designers are using it in everything from earrings to fabric prints to handbags.
People everywhere are also mistakenly calling it a split-leaf philodendron. In fact, I purchased a monstera deliciosa from a nursery last weekend and it was actually labeled by the grower as a split-leaf philodendron. But it’s not a philodendron at all!
    Monstera vs. Split-Leaf Philodendron
Monsteras are actually a different plant family, grown for their fruit in Mexico and Costa Rica. The name is Monstera deliciosa because of the delicious large fruit they produce. Their leaves become giant, hence the name “monster fruit,” and can be quite dramatic, with variegation patterns that are almost white.
Philodendrons are trailing vines in the same family as pothos. The name philodendron actually translates into “love tree,” perhaps because of their heart-shaped leaves. Their leaves never get as big as monstera leaves and they grow much more like a pothos.
And here’s where it gets tricky. There are two real species of split-leaf philodendrons, but their leaves are nowhere near as dramatic as the monstera deliciosa.

I get so confused with the Monstera. Philodendron Selloum, Split Leaf, Tree Philodendron...oh my 🤯 blows my mind.
My bet 🎲🎲 is that both plants are philodendrons, neither being Monstera Deliciosa 🤔
I admit, I don't have a clue. Just know that when I was growing Monstera Deliciosa within four months it produced fenestrations. The plant developed root rot because I was treating it like a philodendron 😢

I understand what you mean! Treating one plant as another, when it needs different care when dealing with plants that are a little unfamiliar lol.
I try and research the photo/info of the plant and nail down the specific type and go from there.
Ya gotta kill a few before ya get it right sometimes plant fam 🙌🥀😂🪴
I really appreciate your support and comments 🙏🙌🪴

@@Plantsavvy killing a plant is like killing a parakeet. 200 plants and 7 parakeets have been entrusted to my care. I don't want to lose not one. Like the Shepard who left the 99 to seek the lost one. I want all of my plants to live. I want all of my birds to sing happily.

My plant has leafs like a monstera, but has characteristics of a philodendron. I’ve had the plant for about a year and a half, it has started growing long woody stems/vines (no foliage). Curious how to prune this plant, it’s definitely heavier on one side, almost to the point that it’s going to fall over. Any tips?

Thank you so much for the comment and I’m grateful to give you a tip (I’m no expert by any means lol) I would have to see the plant to give a guess at what type it would be.
but if you want to prune it back, locate the nodes (pimples/bumps-like along the stems, where new roots will grow will start)
Put the cutting with nodes, in water 🌿🚰 and under a light source to try and start a propagation of a new plant growing from the mother plant 🪴

Very interesting video, though I must confess I thought the video was going to be on the difference between Monstera Deliciosa and Philodendron Monstera.
I lost my Monstera Deliciosa because I treated it as a Philodendron. One wants a pole, one is a crawler. 😕

    See what I mean....
Monstera Deliciosa, as you have no doubt surmised, is the Latin name for this striking plant but he goes by many other nicknames, including the Cheese Plant, the Swiss Cheese Plant, the Fruit Salad Plant, Mexican Breadfruit, Ceriman, Custard Plant and the Split-Leaf Philodendron.Dec 22, 2021

@@Plantsavvy many wrong names. I think many plants are just incorrectly labeled.
Was in Ace Hardware yesterday for a bag of Peat Moss and saw beautiful big leaf Scindapsus. Leaves looked like my Exotica, but bigger it seemed. They were labeled as Silver Satin. 🤯 I said to myself, "self, ain't no way this is a Silver Satin. " I grow the trio [Exotica, Silver Satin and Pothos Pictus Argyraeus]. For the Silver Satin to have bigger leaves than Exotica requires steroids 🧐😳🤯IMHO 😌
