Thanks for your video friend, I am making this journey this morning on my gto tt, and I’ll be following this, I was able to get a hold of a new oem pulley here in the states, they only had 2 in the country. Cost was 380$ for it.

As you said our cars are getting old and one has to do as one needs. Personally I think your solution was brilliant and well done. I just ordered a new balancer from Rock Auto after a transmission rebuild on my 95SL. If I run into your issue I’ll be perusing your video very very carefully, thanks for the post..

had a friend whose balancer slipped out easily and pulled into two pieces with his hands when he pulled on it with the belts off. So, it could be worse lol. There is some conversation to be had about whether or not the rubber in hydraulic balancers actually makes a difference. Idk about anywhere else, but here in the States, you can get a replacement solid pulley for less than 50$. Also, if you don't want to create a tool like me, you can use the starter method to break the crank bolt. Where you quickly engage the starter with a breaker bar on the bolt, and the engine will spin it lose. Also, I totally approve of the custom belt solution to your non-fitting issue. Really, there's nothing a 6-groove belt can do that a five-groove can't. Right? At worse I'd think you *might* have to replace it more often which isn't a big deal considering how sparsely you have to change belts in the lifetime of a car anyways. Although I'd probably find a same-length belt that comes with the factory with 5-grooves and replace it with that in case you've introduced any weak points in the belt by cutting it (possibly idk probably not a big deal).
