Good stuff. I was hoping you'd have changed the cam and crank seals as that can be a lead to timing failures if (or when) they leak on the belt. Most times it's good insurance especially when you don't know how long the seals been there.
That completely went over my head.. I’ll pin the comment for future watchers to take it into consideration when they’re doing their timing belt service
To anyone watching don't do what happens at 7:59, use some small tarp clamps to hold the belt to the cam gear. Release tension on 1 at a time so valves don't smack pistons.
Don't set the crank sprocket dead on. If you do that it will turn about a tooth before the CAMS start moving. I normally set the notch like I said, a tooth to tooth and a half prior. I have done numerous timing belts and got it down to less than 2 hours from start to finish without a lift. Make sure you do the washer mod and do not pull the pin until rotating a couple times. Is also a good idea to put a socket in between the crank sprocket and crank bolt. You don't want the bolt to bottom out.
I just did this a couple months ago. A lot of work but all worth it at the end. I ended up doing the alternator while I was in there too. Was thinking of doing the ac compressor delete but kept it. Hope it runs great when you’re done.
The blue is the gates racing belt an upgrade from OEM and usually goes together with a solid tensioner due to the racing belt not stretching like the oem does
Replaced all my motor mounts with OE factory, they were all ruined in 3 months .3sx has solid rubber motor mounts, no vibration no noise, far superior to OE and urethane motor mounts.
Couldn't make out in the video, but hoping you didn't use a jack and the wooden block on the bottom of the sump? If so then check you haven't pushed in any part of the sump as that's where the oil pickup is and you can cause issues.
lets goo progress baby! Can't wait to see the vr4 back on the road soon! I just got my 92 sl back after 7 months of it being with a mechanic who couldn't find the issue made it home without breaking things at least i think... tell me why i found out its the radiator lol. it's boiling hot and only one fan takes a while to turn on so soon ill be replacing things hoping to find an aluminum one with hoses and water pump. Trany broke on me twice on my journy without even abusing it along my journy:(
Is it possible on this engine to rotate the crank all by itself clockwise and can sprocket individually in order to line up timing marks? this would be a huge help. Thank you.
I like gates brand but I had a bad experience with their water pumps. Luckily I have lifetime warranty on it. So I was able to get a new one for free. I hope yours works and doesn't fail 👍
Hey Miguel, I live in Los Angeles and also have a 3000gt. Would it be possible to take it to the shop in the video? I need a timing belt change as well🫣
Ptu , power transistor unit. Located under coil packs bolted to block on bracket, has 2 Phillips screws holding it down. Buy name brand, China cheapos will fail.

Thanks for pining helped me to not miss it😂🙏🏼

Set the crank sprocket a tooth counter clockwise. Also did washer mod. Video comes out Saturday
@@MiguelDsm👍did you get the special tool to torque the pulley the tensioner pushes against? Don't over do it ornyou'll break the tangs.
Got that as well
Looks tedious but very rewarding when it's all done.. It's good to see you getting comfortable with working on it..
Makes it alot easier when you have someone that’s more knowledgeable in cars there to help just in case

I see how it makes the alternator replacement really easy. Hoping so as well man
YES! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!! 🔥🔥FIRST!!
Got the next episode in a couple of days 🤘🏼
@@MiguelDsm Say less👌I'll be on the lookout

Ready for it to be back running 100%
Great video as always👌🏽
Soon! Thanks for watching 🤙🏼

Ended up going with an innovative mount. 3SX over prices their shipping imo
Man this engine is no joke to work on and your handling it like a champ!
Happy to see this! Glad you got the kit. If you didn't get what you ordered, make sure to contact Chris, he will make it right man.
I think it had the wrong image for the kit. I ended up just running it. Parts were still oem so I’m happy
@Miguel Dsm hey buddy if your happy I'm happy. I'm glad to see if going.
Glad to see the VR4 is coming along well. Good video!
Hoping it’s out soon!
I need to get one of those fancy impact wrenches. You made removing that crankshaft pulley bolt look easy
Glad to see you doing the washer mod.
Just trying to keep it as proper for a diy guide video
Did you ever post the follow-up video to this with the installation and setting of timing?

I commented about that as well and edited it to add a link to a thread on 3SI about how this causes spun bearings, and then my comment disappeared.
Do you have the 3SI link? It’s good to have here either way for people to watch out for. Didn’t see your previous comment
I can't seem to post a link here. It is a stickied post at the top of the 3SI General section titled "Spun Bearing Causes - Please Read!"
I think RUclips removes any links to avoid spam or leaving the platform. Either way thanks for commenting for people to see 👍🏼

I was hoping to see how you gonna set it up the timing load.
i love the build tho one day i’ll have my dream vr4
If belt broke , need dismantle and repair cylinder heads and replace valves?

Only thing that would bother me would be the labor to do it again if I had to warranty it
That's the downfall, the labor do redo it. Only a month later I had experienced what you just mentioned.
Damn seeing how damaged everything was I wonder how it was still running. The comeback is going to be a sight to see
Hopefully soon 🤌🏻
LoVe to see it bro👍🏾👏🏾💯
Thanks man! 💪🏻
ima noob sub....had an Evo but not anymore......
wow cant wait to see that thing mob around lol she is a beaut!
You and I both man. Soon!
I had the same issue with my water pump
Hard to see if it’s leaking without removing some things
You must be driving the car by now, congratulations !!!
Not quite yet. Soon!
Hey Miguel, I live in Los Angeles and also have a 3000gt. Would it be possible to take it to the shop in the video? I need a timing belt change as well🫣
Of course! Just message Mays Performance to see their availability
what’s name of insurance you use
Do I need to put the motor at top dead center before I do this?
good question. i would. wouldnt hurt
actually have a same issue
Hope this video helps!
I think the block and heads hold more coolant than the radiator lol
Hey Miguel, we see the rotor rust 😂😂
It’s this weather man and lack of miles lol
What is this thing at 5:45
Motor mount
These cars are a pain lol
Please some one can help me
A have no fire on cilinder 3 and 6 😢

Sheeeesh earlyyyy
Nice to see you here ✌🏼
wow, they saw you coming bro. I hope they refunded you the difference because that race belt costs a lot more.
Don’t support the engine from the oil pan. That’ll bend the oil pan and the pick up tube and spun bearings.
Someone mentioned that last video. Unfortunately all this was done earlier this week before posting the videos
