I was attending college in NW Ohio at the time. Just a few days before, the Cleveland Browns lost in extraordinary fashion on a Kick Six to the Baltimore Ravens in front of a wild Dawg Pound on Monday Night Football. Sitting amongst stunned Browns fans, I exclaimed, "I can't think of a more painful way to lose a football game."
Flash-forward a few days later to Thursday Night Football. I was screaming my ass off when Taylor got the sack on Aaron only for all that excitement to be deflated with the flag thrown on the "facemask" call. As soon as they called the penalty, I exclaimed to the crowd that the Lions were about to lose the game in heartbreaking fashion. Sure enough, Rodgers got a untimed snap and the rest is history. This one loss was painful. To that point, it hurt more than the Calvin Johnson negated TD against the Bears in '09 or the Texans Thanksgiving Fiasco in '12 or the Calvin Johnson fumble against the Seahawks only a few months before this game.
I refuse to this day to call it the Miracle in Motown and rather the Fail Mary because of the bad facemask call by the Refs. To think we're on the cusp of more painful losses like the Golden Tate 10 second runoff incident against the Falcons in '17 or the Swift TD drop against the Bears in '20 or the Justin Tucker kick

I just hope that Rodgers is not forgotten for his insane late game comebacks . I know things ended not so well and hopefully he can play again at an elite level but he really did carry the team way more then non Packers fans will ever know. They only had a solid run game like 3-4 seasons maybe and the defense failed so many times in the post season . The only post season loss I put a good amount of blame on was for The last 49ers loss , it was to low scoring of a game for him not to be able to figure out how to just score one more TD.

I remember this vividly. I had just gotten out of taking a business/Econ final at Oakland University, catching a little bit of the game in the student center before heading home. I get home, feeling tired as hell (had to get up at 5AM for work the next day), and went to sleep with the score 17-0 a little after halftime.
I wake up around like midnight or so to use the bathroom and saw that it was 23-21 and the play at 8:52 happens. My stomach sinks for the Lions because I’ve seen this song and dance before. But still, my jaw drops to the floor right as that ball hits Richard Rodgers’ hands. My brother comes to my place a few moments later after he gets off work with both our jaws agape as I replay for him and point at what just happened at 12:06.

I remembering walking out of the room to take a nap at halftime, giving up on the game. Then waking up halfway through the 4th quarter and hearing people in the other room getting excited. When the Hail Mary happened, we just exploded with cheers and us as well as the other dorm across the hallway came out of our room and celebrated in the hallway. Jumping, cheering, and yelling. It was one of the best sports watching experiences ever.

I don't even remember this game or season...shows you how much of a Lions "fan" I am. I'm watching this vid, and I'm thinking "ok, how are the Lions going to screw THIS one up?" Not a question of IF. Never mind the SB Rewind setup...it's something we know all too well in Detroit. The Lions are simply _never_ any good. End of story.
OK, so they use the "penalty on the defense" option, rather than the "penalty on the offense" option. Good for a novelty, I guess. The Lions are the undisputed champions of getting into third-and-37 when they have the ball.

We have to watch it every time they show rodgers hail marys and they never even MENTION the penalty. How can you call this a rewind when the facemask penalty got them in range for a hail mary AND its controversial. I dont even care if you say its technically a facemask, but at least cover the fact that it was a debatable call. This isnt a rewind its just another Rodgers fluff piece, dunno why people like him so much. Sure, hes a great QB, but such an unpleasant guy. If he was a WR everybody would hate him

Love how officials can throw a flag for one thing to extend a game, but bury it for another a play later. Pretty clear block in the back that allows Rodgers to escape the pocket and step up into that throw. What made that less important to the play than the Facemask? If anything it is probably more important.

Jim Caldwell's Colts broke the record for 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives with 7 each in 2009.
His 2016 Lions broke those records with 8 each. He led the NFL with 5 4th quarter comebacks in 2014 and both categories in '2017 with 4.
Besides turning Joe Flaco into a playoff monster as the Ravens OC--where Flaco had 11 TDs and 0 INTs on way to a SB ring--Caldwell showed his elite aptitude for winning close games on that run by hanging 38 points on the great Broncos defense for a 3-point victory in the Divisional round and 34 in the Super Bowl on an elite 49ers defense for another 3-point win..
He was 9-7 with only one Pro Bowler (THE PUNTER!) in 2016 and lost to the Seahawks in the playoffs who had 7 pro bowlers. He went 9-7 his last year with only 2 Pro Bowlers. The avg NFC playoff team had 6, with 4 the fewest. Yet he was fired for "underachieving" with that sorry talent and told 9 wins is not enough. I was incensed, telling my fellow Lions fans that the team will fall apart without him propping them up.
A simple compare/contrast: 2014-2017 Coach Record, and Total # of Pro Bowlers
    32-32 - John Harbaugh - 18 Pro Bowlers
    32-32 - Sean Payton - 13 Pro Bowlers
    36-28 - Jim Caldwell - 7 Pro Bowlers (31st fewest in NFL)
How is this quarterback whisperer who excels in close games and got his teams to overachieve not a head coach?
