I agree. I went to a Texans-Saints game a few years ago and saw more New Orleans fans than Houston. And Houston high school football has deep ties to LSU and the SEC generally, as opposed to the Longhorns. UT will look to change that going forward.
LSU vs Mississippi State is probably the closest thing to a friendly rivalry in the SEC, if you can call it that. We have a ton of respect for each other on the diamond as the blue blood programs of SEC baseball, and we are unified in our dislike of Ole Miss. I was happy to see them win the baseball title in 2021. And I agree with this video that LSU-Texas will become a rivalry very quickly. Our fans will grow to loathe Texas even more than we’ve grown to loathe A&M. It won’t take long.
Yeah I think Texas fans of a certain age feel some type of way about Alabama because of the 2010 National Championship - you can trace the downfall of the program to the season after that game. For me, the win over Bama this year was cathartic because it seemed like we’d come full circle.
The new schedules will be much better than the last expansion. A&M still hasn't completed their first home-and away at all the teams in the old Eastern division. That was crazy.
Strong takes. And even though we'll all hate each other soon enough, let me say I'm really glad you guys are here. My only wish is that IF a new rivalry is forged between us (LSU, btw), i hope it happens organically. I remember when Arkansas first joined in the 90s, and they forced this artificial rivalry between us (last game of the year, Friday after Thanksgiving, "the battle for the boot", the ugliest trophy in history, etc.)... And in almost 30 years, im pretty sure that no one ever circled that game on the calendar.

Half of south texas are pretty much LSU fans . The Houston classic last weekend had 2 to 1 LSU fans vs UTa and the actual University of Houston. It's going to be lit
Texas and Oklahoma have built in rivals, for sure. However, one cannot be "designated" in advance. A new rivalry will simply happen, and it is likely a team not currently on their radar. A guess? Texas vs. Georgia/Tenn. Okla. vs. Bama/Ole Miss
In addition to the 3 known rivals I can see LSU or Alabama. Because of historic Tennessee-Texas connection and Tennessee’s “Decade of Darkness” being over then Tennessee is a viable rival for either Texas or A&M.
Imma clear the air about the 2019 LSU at Texas. I was on the sidelines (LSU sideline) and in the visitors tunnel before that game taking part in pregame festivities. There ABSOLUTELY was water on the LSU sidelines as I got water from a jug out out for their cheerleaders before the game. I can honestly say that there absolutely WAS a/c in their locker room as well as I walked right by their visitors locker room door and there was a waft of cold air that came out the door. Coach Ed O needed excuses for his team’s lackluster performance that day and straight up lied all around to cover his team’s flaws in that game. Even the LA Tech coach from the week before confirmed he was lying. I can absolutely see a hate rivalry between LSU and Texas based simply on the lies the 2019 team and coach spread.
Not a Texas fan but they already have rivals with Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. I do think Alabama, LSU, and Tennessee could be interesting for them (the latter can be a battle of the UTs).
Texas new rivals will be the old rivals - OU and Texas. Texas has no rivals among their new SEC opponents. As a Texas-ex, I don’t even consider Arkansas as a rival.
@@Mark-zx2bq she is saying Arkansas is not a rival of Texas despite their history. It sounds like she is a Big12 Texas fan. She doesnt know the true history of Tex-Ark from the 60's-70's.
As far as football, really surprised Texas’ lack of in conference strength. If Texas had an LSU, Ole Miss or even TN, then i could see a new rival; especially LSU. Texas has one of the weakest in conference schedules in the SEC and that will only hurt them in the event of tied records at the end of the season. Hope more of the SEC gets on a rotating schedule over the years
Texas plays two preseason Top 10 teams & four Top 20 overall. Not the toughest schedule as others (see: Florida); but throw in Michigan in nonconference & it's a very commendable schedule, w/three Top 10 teams, including the last two NCs.
Their rivals are going to be the same one they've had for the past 100 years, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Arkansas. And maybe are LSU since its a border state.
@3:35 that LSU Longhorns game was not close. They just hung around forever. But yea there will be hatred cuz we are total opposites as fanbases. Im not gonna talk trash cuz i acknowledge how good their team is every year but we do things COMPLETELY differently
Wrong. That was a 6-point game with 2:27 left in the 4th. LSU had to convert a 3rd and 17 from their own 39. Unfortunately for Texas, LB Jeffery McCullock just missed a sack and DT Keondre Coburn arrived at Burrow half a step too late. Burrow threw a duck, but it was a completed duck for a 61-yard TD on a great run by Jefferson. LSU won the game, congrats. But don't act like the game was a blowout...it wasn't.
They think they can make rivals overnight rivals come with years and years and years of playing against each other close games not saying hey you wanna be our rival!! Arkansas and Texas is always been a kind of rivalry game but I think Oklahoma and Texas has the actual rivalry game
Barring Oklahoma I’d say it’s 1. Texas A&M, a whole lotta bad blood here after the SwC and big 12 days; 2. LSU, geographic proximity makes this a shoe in but Texas A&M already plays them during rivalry week so it could get a little weird having two Texan rivals; 3. Tennessee, Texas is kind of Tennessee’s little brother and I mean that in a literal sense, tennesseans like Davy Crockett and Sam Houston were instrumental in forming Texas and breaking away from Mexico so the two states are connected by blood beyond just sharing the acronym of “UT” and that could make for a good brotherly rivalry; 4. Arkansas, this would mostly be rehashing the old SwC rivalry but Arkansas kinda sucks at football right now so it wouldn’t exactly be competitive; 5. Alabama, money.
@@richstex4736 probably because he died at the Alamo and became a symbol of Texan-American unity during the Mexican-American war, especially because he was a former congressman. Crockett didn’t spend years in Texas but his impact was felt for just as long had he been there for years.

Add LSU and the puzzle completes.
As a,Missourian I hate that they screw up our division we don't play Georgia
As a Georgia fan, I have to say that I don't see our teams being natural rivals. There have been some great games between the teams, and I think there is mutual respect, but Georgia has more than enough rivals, we don't need any more 😆
I can see an Alabama or Georgia rivalry in football, LSU for baseball, and Tennessee in basketball.
Spot on 🤘🏻
For Texas. OU, Arkansas and atm.
For everyone else. Texas. It’s always been like this
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Ole Miss could be another good rival for Texas in multiple sports (football, baseball, and even track & field).
It could be. I remember a lot of exictement when the Rebels came to town in 2013. And with Lane Kiffin at the helm...anything's possible!
UF and Texas could become a rivalry considering they’re 2 of the big 3 football states but that starts with keeping the recruits in state first
An Alabama vs Texas rivalry would feed families
I’m going to the UGA vs. Texas game so that will be fun
If it wasn't for Tennessee, there would be no Texas
Yep, it’s kind of like France and the US.
You conveniently overlook the greed of Man.
For Longhorn's new rivalries, I am thinking AL and LSU. For OU, it'll be Razorbacks (similar to Nebraska--a gentlemen's rivalry), Gators, and Auburn.
I think Georgia will be our newest rivalry. Atlanta already has a rivalry with Houston and Dallas. Lil Flip vs T.I., Young Thug vs Sauce Walka, The Braves vs Astros, the Von Erica vs the Freebirds, Texas Country vs Georgia country music. Texas and Georgia both want to be the most influential state in the South.
Excellent points!
Gonna be fun
It’s Texas vs the World, period. Name any school that wouldn’t circle and get up for a game against Texas with ALL our hype and history year after year!!
Oh wait, we found one that took us lightly…Georgia in the 2019 Sugar Bowl…my bad, but we took care of them Dawgs! 🤘🏼🤨🤘🏼
Georgia didn’t care about that game. They had multiple starters opt out that game. Yall beat UGA backups.
@@justinwashington7076 Don't forget crooked refs.
I think you're spot on with the schools you chose as new rivals, and you have very good reasons for these new rivals... I'm so ready to see if my cousin Lil Ryan will get significant playing time his freshman year at Bama... #RollTide🐘
Thank you! Your cousin's commitment was a HUGE win for Coach DeBoer. I suspect he'll be seeing a lot of PT this season.
Half of south texas are pretty much LSU fans . The Houston classic last weekend had 2 to 1 LSU fans vs UTa and the actual University of Houston. It's going to be lit
I Will say that you guys do pretty much everything better than us except sports. That's why so many of us are on y'all's side of the border lol
That coach is gone. It would be great to see a respectful rivalry, akin to Texas-Alabama.
As a Texas-ex, I don’t even consider Arkansas as a rival.
same here....I am on the fence about A&M--Texas renewed. Yes they are our rivals, but it is not the same as OU-Tex
Wtf are you talking about?
@@Mark-zx2bq she is saying Arkansas is not a rival of Texas despite their history. It sounds like she is a Big12 Texas fan. She doesnt know the true history of Tex-Ark from the 60's-70's.
@@darrylbrown8253 Texas A&M?
@@darrylbrown8253 Hell, you stated, yourself, that you aren't even sure about A&M. Smh
This is no brainer who is the real UT
tennessee is the real ut. no questions. the TRUE orange and white.
Yeah ok.
@@clifftondouangdara6249 If it wasn’t for Tennessee Texas would be Mexico.
@@justinwashington7076 Please elaborate.
@@richstex4736 Just look up the Mexican American war in 1848 when 30,000 Tennesseans volunteered to help fight.
Tenn vs Texas
Texans vs Titans
texas-scar in womens hoops is gonna be cinema. and we aint forget about kim mulkey were the og haters
Vandy. They'll be fighting it out for next-to-last every year...
🤣
I had the same 3.
Vol Nation in a sports kind of way, not personal kind of way, but a sports kind of way there's no such thing as a friendly rivalry
It has got to be Texas A&M. Although I can see Arkansas also as a possibility.
Getting some of the old big8 matchups again Texas A&M Arkansas and Oklahoma I’m sure new ones will emerge also
It's interesting that the SEC has 1/4 of the old Big 8, 1/3 of the old SWC, and 1/3 of the original B12. Rivalries everywhere!
1) A&M
2) Alabama
3) OU
Ole Miss even though we arent keeping the original SEC West.
Their rivals are going to be the same one they've had for the past 100 years, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Arkansas. And maybe are LSU since its a border state.
Texas had one good season and everybody acts like they’ve been in Alabama the whole time
I was thinking the same thing
Texas doesn't care. Texas is always a conference leader and uniquely relevant in every sport.. SEC is going to get some hard learnin'.
Yep. What you say has some truth to it, but all teams in the SEC are equal, with 1 vote
We have enough rivalries to create more
Alabama seems to be the best choice, given the recent history.
Not playing Tech sucks
For them.
What? "The Axis of Evil"?😆
Texas A&M revival
They develop a Texas LSU rivalry
Imagine arch manning going to Oxford to play ole miss???😮😮😮
It will be a rivalry renewed with A&M
Hate to burst your bubble, but Mr. Crockett was in Texas only a few weeks & was consumed by matters other than forming a new republic.
@@richstex4736 probably because he died at the Alamo and became a symbol of Texan-American unity during the Mexican-American war, especially because he was a former congressman. Crockett didn’t spend years in Texas but his impact was felt for just as long had he been there for years.
@@motivationallizard6644 Please cite references to Crockett's influence as a unifying symbol during the Mexican-American War.
Tennessee! Who’s the real UT?
Don’t flatter yourselves. Vanderbilt is your rival. Good Luck.
The devaluation of rivalries is annoying. Let's just call all games rivalry games.
