hey sam! as an artist of 9+ years that started to actually get good in 2020, i thought i’d take my chances with digital art. as i’ve never done it before (until 2021), i absolutely sucked, but i told myself i’d get better. your videos help me with how i draw and stuff like that! im a pencil artist that very seldom colors my drawings, but with you helping so many people i thought i’d see how much of a big help you are! much love!!

holy crap THANK U for addressing the watermark obsession artists have. some people are putting more work and thought into watermarking their art than drawing it i swear. if someone REALLY wants to steal your work, they will find a way around your watermark. Tracing is a thing too. You can't fight it completely, I say throw on your signature and leave it be.
11:00 To be honest I kind of prefer this over distracting watermarks. It's better to work the watermark into the composition so even if someone would remove it would be extremely noticeable because it'd leave a huge dead space.
The artist wrote very visible on the screen that they have two watermarks though. One visible and one that art thiefs might overlook or don't bother to remove, so it's easier to prove the origin
@@kuraimegami_rica Then I agree with Sam, but at the opposite argument. The composition one is cool, the distractive one just works against the composition.
@@AniMesuro Yea sometimes signatures and watermarks can be quite distractiong. There are tips to have a visible signature, while not disturbing the overall look of the picture. But in the end it's up to each individual of course ^^

7:30 YES!!! I know tracing is very looked down upon in the art community, but seriosly, if you dont post traced art with no credit, youre fine to trace. I used to trace my cousin who traced terenry rm (and yes, i did post the traced art, that was 4 years ago) i got the muscle memory to improve QUICK. in 4 years (started in 2018) i got from making shaky lineart and simple ocs with no color theory with one color really bright bgs to fully shaded, complicated scenes with cleaner lines, all because i traced for like a month. Its a great thing to do, if you trace someone who has the art style you want on your own time without posting it, i really think it would help
I’m honestly so grateful for finding your Channel, instagram and Patreon. I’ve been in a bad art runt for years now and hearing your advice, seeing your growth, skill and understanding of your work has helped me a lot with just .. wanting to be better and finding the fun in drawing again. Just wanted to say thank you so much my dude 🙏🏾 for all that you do and create
Here are my art tips: 1. Let go of that perfectionist feeling (example: I colored the skin the wrong color) 2. If ur at school and u don’t know what to draw and u rn can’t draw without a reference, use a book’s cover as a reference
Thanks Sam for making these types of contents for us As an 11 yr old that's been drawing for like 5/6 years, your videos help me improve more and more and I'm already advanced at it!
The first hack, the one about the white outline, actually helps a lot because I don't have a steady hand and the thickness will stay the same throughout! But to each their own
1:40 Honestly when it comes to creative block, that tip is actually incredible, like I absolutely despise abstract, but sometimes when I really don't have any motivation, just start doodling and suddenly you will see a shape and think, "ohh, shark with a top hat" if I run away from my responsibilities there will go about 2 months before I even touch a pencil and I don't like it.
8:16 i tried this recently and it worked wonders, especially since I don’t like doing full bodies because they scare me, but that technique really improved my ability to draw exactly what I wanted to (and practicing that technique has helped me freehand things I couldn’t before).
I am literally astonished, i have watched like four videos of you and i have always struggled with drawing faces but i just fell so inspired that i just made a bit of a quick sketch, trying out a new brush-type doing the anatomy, placing the head slightly angeled down and it actually doesn’t look that bad so yeah i’m subscribing
I always get excited whenever you post Sam. It just makes my day! Even though it's literally 12 AM here in the Philippines, now I don't know whether I should sleep or watch 😪
I really needed that bit about stolen art. I've recently been slightly stressed cause a specific art piece of mine had been stolen multiple times and a more serious instance had just come to my attention. I started stressing about watermarks and well, your words calmed me down :) so thank you.
Hey Sam, I've been watching your videos for a while and I want to tell you that you're my biggest inspiration. You have taught me a lot and I really enjoy watching your content. Thank you!
Joining the patreon a few months back really helped a ton, joined and intended to just snag the skin tutorial and dip but fuck the discord is so nice and the tutorials help so much, I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.
I developed my art style by most of the cartoons I watched most of my childhood and some anime throughout that time of my life, I also looked at fan art of things I enjoyed and the more of the art I found the more I started to draw what felt right to me, I found out I really enjoyed drawing in a cartoonish type of style, when I started to draw(age 3-6) I drew a oval-ish cricle(that doesn’t make sense I know) as the head shape, and as I grew older I started to draw the head with a curve to represent where the cheek is, I also found out that I can only draw a more anime-like art style when I have a lot of inspiration and motivation(which is really hard to have both at the same time)on digital and on paper
