    Low porosity hair reacts positively when using steam with pre poos and deep conditioning treatments. The steam helps lift the cuticles so the oils and deep conditioners can penetrate more easily. Low porosity has such tightly closed cuticles and that’s why steam benefits low porosity strands.

    Just another little tip, u shouldn't use hot water on ur hair bc it's pretty much like heat damage. It kinda kills the hair cuticle, resulting to more breakage and hair loss. Ur welcome💗💗

    Can I just say I love the curly-kinky movement. All of us curlies can learn and benefit from eachothers knowledge whether we have looser or tighter curl patterns ❤️❤️ I personally range from natural 3C to heat damaged 2b. I get really good length retention from cornrowing my hair and wearing halfwigs and clip in extensions. I’m restarting my routine so it’s lovely to see how many different curlies are putting out quality information these days.

    Thank you so much for this. I didn't think that curly haired people COULD dry detangle and for years have been detangling with conditioner in my hair using a detangling brush. I have hypothyroidism (symptomatic for 8 years but only recently got tested thanks to repeated refusals to test by docs over the years) and as such have lost about 85-90% of my hair. I can't afford to lose any more unnecessarily Thank you. I think you may just have saved some of the remaining hair.

    My hair type is the same as yours, also thin. I've been de-tangling with wet hair and I get so much breakage thru this method..but I've seen all through out the internet that with curly hair it's best to detangle when hair is wet.
    I'm going to try it the way you suggested - using a bit of oil and then de-tangling with fingers and see how that works.

    Gonna try this with grape seed oil! My hair has been growing but it’s uneven at the ends due to breakage, mostly because I put my hair up for work. Lately I’ve been using a clip instead of a hair tie. But I know my detangling habits also contribute to breakage, so these tips should help

    I like to use a brush to detangle in the shower with my conditioner in my hair 😂 but not all brushes are the same. Mine has those spikes but they're wide spread and are hollow and flexible at the same time, it doesn't pull my hair out like a typical paddlebrush would. I don't experience breakage 💗

    Thank you Gena. I’m enjoying your channel so much! You’ve convinced me to embrace my curls after 20 years of straightening them... I have a pressing question for you! What do you think about using pure extra virgin olive oil on curly hair? I’ve used it as a pre-shampoo for a year now and it has really helped to combat dryness and damage. Is it curl friendly, though? Super thanks! Your channel is awesome 👏🏽

      The night before my wash day I’ll saturate my scalp with two hair growth oils and massage my scalp for 5 minutes, and then I co wash the next morning, and I’ve never had any issues with that :) I only clarify once a week. You can definitely use low poo, just make sure you massage with the pads of your fingers

    My hair is only wavy and does not tangle any way close to yours. I never realized how much tangling you curly girls had to do. My hair is extremely fine and gently wavy. It seems to break easily as I have a halo of short hair around my face. But this could just be new growth after using minoxidyl. Any way, I have to be extremely gentle with my strands. Do you think this oil treatment might be good for me too? I would love to see less hair swirl around the tub drain.

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  4 года назад

      You could! Whatever works to be more gentle 😊

    • @ajoyfullsound
      @ajoyfullsound 4 года назад +2

      I'm the same way! I feel like it works better when I use a comb or detangling brush, working from the ends up. And when I find a big tangle I will go in with my fingers to break it up.

    • @jenniferprice9971
      @jenniferprice9971 3 года назад

      I know that for most detangling I can finger detangle but if it a larger knot it is harder and I get frustrated so I pull more and harder. It took a bit but I found a brush that is so much gentler and quicker. So I don’t get as frustrated and start pulling and tugging. So I think it is a fair trade off as in the end i cause less breakage. I have also started detangling between wash days not just on wash day by adding a bit more leave in conditioner to the tangles during refreshing.
