    The curly girl method gave me hygral fatigue. It took months and a haircut to go back to normal. Before the curly girl method, I had never used a deep conditioner before and I didn't need to because my hair is very fine. Using moisturising dcs and only gentle shampoos ruined my hair. Also, the silicone I was using was helping to stop too much moisture from getting into my hair. That was taken away as well. CG method isn't for everyone

      I'm thinking about this too. I never did any deep conditioner or apply special products to my hair when I was a child/teenager and my curls were popping up, after almost 3 years on the CGM I got a severe damage on my scalp plus the horrible dandruff :/, I was around 3 months on treatment (special shampoos for that), I'm ok now after 6 months but I have to use shampoos with sulfates cause those gentle shampoos ruined my scalp. Now it's not itchy, not burning sensation and 0 dandruff. Even though my hair looks healthy, my curls did not come back to those more 3b I got when I was a child, I have more from 2b-3a and kinda loose pattern, I do not know if it's due to that, but now I'm reducing deep conditioning, I'm not putting oils on my hair and I'm avoiding products with shea butter/coconut oil or any heavy oil, I feel my hair tends to be more straight with all these super hidratation. I will see the progress, but I'm happy my scalp is ok now :)
      My hair is fine too!

    Hey girl, great video but I did want to say that you CAN reverse this condition, I had this happen to me at the very beginning of my CG journey when my hair was virgin and it took me 3 months but I got my spirals back and no more gummy texture. Personally I just stopped washing it for like weeks at a time and any time I did wash it, I covered my hair in straight up EGG lol and had it sit for hours before I shampooed. I also made sure to diffuse my hair with some heat, because I found the quicker I got the moisture out, the more my curls recovered. Hopefully this will help someone else! I have 3c hair with high porosity :)

      @nourhammouri3961 2 года назад +8

      @@palestar828 I didn't either in the beginning, and it took a while for me to realize that my hair had a gummy texture. While wet, if your hair seems to stay stuck together and is hard to separate into different parts (not tangled, just sticking together), it probably has a gummy texture. If you touch it and it feels very soft and light in weight, almost as if it isn't even hair, this could be a sign as well.

    • @palestar828
      @palestar828 2 года назад +5

      @@nourhammouri3961 that's how my hair is. It sticks together like clumps, but only when wet. The weirdest thing is that I JUST got out of the shower about two months ago and checked my phone and saw this... Maybe it's a sign lol. But my hair hasn't been sticking together too much lately. Since I've been starting this whole moisture/protein thing, it's literally been falling out like crazy. More than it ever has. I mean huge balls of hair are coming out in the shower. You would think after taking care of it, it would be acting and getting better, but I sware when I was doing nothing to it, but washing and conditioning with whatever products, it wasn't falling out like this. Weird. Tonight I just took a normal shower- no masks, no treatments... Didn't pay attention to anything in the ingredients list. Seems like the more I take care of it, the worse it gets and seems to act. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I got exactly one year of amazing curls by doing that, and then since then I’ve lost almost all my curl pattern, had weird puffy frizz, breakage, and crazy loss of density. Here I’ve been desperately trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with my hair and I think this video finally answered it for me....

    Gonna go scream in happiness now. I have naturally high porosity hair which can easily get over moisturized and start falling apart. After finally transitioning back to my natural hair, I learned the hard way that without anything my hair would rapidly dry, frizz, tangle and break. Throw in a lot of YT videos that don’t really show HP routines, a lot of glycerine or heavy moisture products, or not too much info to explain the issue and my hair had to go through horrible phases. Until today. Bravo girl 👏! I’ve had to learn some of these things the hard way. Pre pooing oil treatment for hp thin hair girls. It’ll change you. I’m barely learning the need to include protein and sealants. Butters and thicker oils huuuuuge no no’s for styling This has got to be one of the most thorough videos explaining porosity and a routine that can help HP thin hair. I’ve been on this journey for 4 years and I am barely scratching the surface. I’m gonna have to do a decent trim as some recent products have had their way and a lot of snappage has occurred. Product understanding and usage has just been the hardest part to manage. A million thank you’s. Me and my best friend always talk about your videos. She can relate more to your seester’s long thick hair where as I can relate to yours. All the love from LA ❤️.

    I'm a guy with pretty short hair, although now I have a reason to grow it out with everything going on 😂however this channel has literally SAVED my hair. I legitimately used to just have frizz, and now I have spirals. THANK YOU MELL. However, I'm still not sure why the curls in the front of my head are so much nicer than the ones in the middle and back, I give my whole head the same consideration, and nothing, not even finger coiling will get these curls to spiral like the ones in the front! It's so frustrating especially considering it used to be my front end that had the most damage. Edit: I’m only referring to the top of my head as I keep my sides short/shaved. When I say back of my head, I’m referring to the back top!

    Not sure if you are reading this, but must get this of my chest.
    Okay, so I have binge watched for the last 4 days most of your videos, I mean REALLY BINGING, soaking up your wisdom! Even rewatching several videos multiple times.
    Yesterday I have purchased multiple new products (new and good shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave in, gel, cream, brush, bonnet, scalp massage brush) because you just gave me hope for my hair again!
    Years ago (±5 years?) I wanted to do de CG routine, but I feel so much more confident using your tips!! When I started CG I got pretty decent results. I mean I did not follow ALL the rules but for instance, for the past 5 years I think I brushed my hair maybe 10 times, and used shampoo maybe twice a year? But now for the last ±3 years my hair looks tired, flat and FRIZZY. For the last 2 years I have only used morrocanoil conditioner and cream (I was tired of the CG rules and just gave up and wanted to use 2 products, yes with silicones) I just gave up.
    But I guess I just want to thank you, so much. I am going to start my journey again, with loads of confidents, hope and patience. The last couple of days you made me laugh, sigh and love my hair again. Please know you and your work (and your seesters work!!) here is appreciated and valued!
    Starting tomorrow to properly wash and nourish my hairs, and begin the endless retraining my curls.

    Omg every time I do like a lot of people say and not rinse all the conditioner out of my hair, I end up with moisture overload within a couple of washes. And I don’t leave a lot or anything but I guess my hair is just really porous? I literally cannot leave hardly any behind and it’s prob because I only have like one product with protein...you are my hair angel I swear😂 for whatever reason I thought it was only lack of protein so I will do a protein treatment after clarifying and it fixes it...I think now I understand why! Hi Mell!
    Thank you for this!
    I do have another question about pre-pooing. This is where my mind gets very confused. If I am pre-pooing, then this treatment is all going on top of dirty hair with product still on it? Should we rinse our hairs out first to get off as much water-soluble product as possible... the air dry... then pre-poo?... It sounds good and makes sense when the reasoning for pre-pooing is described. It’s just that I haven’t found an explanation for my question.
    I hope you and your family are safe and doing well, ‘Hi Amanda!’

    My hair are long like your sister's, and they felt a little gummy and dry. Now they feel more moistured, shiny and my curls are a little bit more defined. This is what I've applied from your videos :
    - I pre-treat my hair with a mixture of coconut oil/almond oil and I detangle with my fingers. Let sit as long as possible.
    - I use a deep conditionner with strengthening properties and I rince right after the time indicated on the bottle
    - I spray a little of white vinegar diluted in water to rebalance the pHHHHeeeee !
    - I use an old coton tee-shirt to damp my hair
    - I apply a serum with strengthening properties, a cream to define my curls and a curl spray
    - diffuse the hair following your method. Some strands dry faster when I'm diffusing, so I try to put them apart then I don't overheat them. At the end my hair feel a liiiiiiittle damped (but it may be the moisture ?).
    - At night : I tie my hair with a sort of invisibobble very loosely, I put a silky cap that I secure with some pins
    - Day after day : I apply a tiny bit of a cream on my dry strands and I spray an argan-oil based on my hair
    And boom ! I can see the results. Thank you curl master !!!

Still over moisturized. Watched this & tried something new. I make homemade Greek yogurt. This leaves me with a lot of whey (the yellow watery stuff in yogurt). This is full of protein & goodness. Did a treatment letting it sit while I showered (after clarifying), then followed with my usual conditioner, & a leave-in with protein. Ended up with my best hair day ever. I feel like it shouldn't be so complicated to take care of hair, but, add years of damaged processes and lack if factual knowledge on top if the fact that everyone's hair is so unique and what works for one may not work for another, makes it very hard to know how to get from a salvageable damaged state, to as healthy of a state as possible, all while trying to do with different porous grades and fine and thin hair on the same head.. as well as balancing it all with a head of hair that has 3 different curl patterns, and, you know that it has the potential to be great, but it all just feels like too much, but you are dedicated to caring for your hairs. It's a very complex issue, and one I'd love to see addressed. What to do when your head had different levels of porosity and different curl/wave patterns, and how to know the true reason, aside from damage from bleach, your hair may be just unable to hold a curl, and you do it all as balanced as possible. Sigh. Just venting but If i had no hope, I wouldn't be here to learn from the best of the best... Manes By Mell.

    • @SioLazer
      @SioLazer 4 года назад +9

      I wondered about how refreshing plays in as well. Also, sweat. In the summer, my hair will get soaked with sweat a few times a week. I wonder if the solution is in the washday. She suggests pre-pooing with an oil and sealing with an oil. I wonder if that can protect the hair from hygral fatigue. The way I keep my hair from getting damaged from being soaked with sweat is a put a small amount of jojoba oil in it before I braid it. I do this in hopes it keeps my hair from absorbing too much salty sweat.

    For people experiencing a lot of inflammation, itchiness & flaking of the scalp I would suggest *not* using oils since it could be sebhoric dermatitis. Seb Derm is an overgrowth of a type of yeast that feeds on oil in the skin. It isn't caused by dryness. I found out the hard way, my hairdresser kept using morroccon oil on my hair & scalp & I got such a bad a reaction I must now use medicated prescription shampoo. I was already highly sensitive to fragrance so finding haircare & styling products was a real challenge. I have thick, wavy, textured hair that I prefer wearing natural mainly because I don't like spending hours blow drying & hot styling my hair. I need products that will tame frizz, promote curl & hold. Some of the videos I've seen on CGM made it seem like more work, not less. And the amount of products needed seemed daunting & excessive. But your videos are making sense & now I know what ingredients to look for (protein) & when to use them & how often. Since I can't use oils, I'll probably always use some silicones in my finishing & styling products but I know to make sure it's not in my shampoo or rinse out conditioner or deep conditioner. Soooo, hoping my colored/highlighted hair will get consistent results throughout our dry Summer :)

    Hi Mel, loooove your videos! I’m very interested in a video about the ingredient alcohol. I see it a lottttt in products and I’m interested in what types of alcohol you have to avoid and what it does to our curly hair! Looking forward to a video with that information🤗

    Hi Mell! Love this video and YOU, and I'm so happy I watched this during this quarantine. Could you do a video on Protein Overload?

    Mell this video was helpful. And I don’t think hyrgal fatigue is my issue now. Something though that I’m confused about is hard water. If I use a chelating shampoo, am I not still rinsing it out with hard water? Can you make a video about that and apple cider rinses if they help?

    I am a ginger gone grey. I color my hair myself. Do you have clients like me? Unless I use a ton of gel it's fuzzy. With the gel it's pretty good but hard to refresh.

    Love your channel but one thing I have to point out is that overcondtioned hair is defintely repairable! I've had overcondtioned hair and what you need is a strong protein treatment. The 2-step protein treatment from Aphogee worked wonders! My hair got its life and strenght back straight away! Its been more than 2 months now and my hair is still in perfect condition.

      so excited for you!! what did you get exactly?? remember to make sure the hair is moisturized with the leave-in/clump cream before the gel for the perfect balance

      @@ManesByMell I bought the clarifying shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, clump cream, gel, and hair spray lol. I have thin hair, so do I need to use both the leave-in and clump cream? Not sure if it will wear my hair down.

    I love the Redken Cat treatment when I feel like I have to much moisture. I recommend Ion Hard Water Shampoo... I live in Sacramento, CA, and I have extremely hard water... This stuff helps so much.
