- This song is about Aboriginal land rights, performed by white guys (nothing wrong with that),
- It charted at #1 in South Africa,
- Ellis Park is in Johannesburg, South Africa,
- This video was recorded in 1994,
- Nelson Mandela had been released from prison in 1990.
Join the dots, Mate, and you'll find that the whole is a lot, lot greater than the sum of its parts. Hope that makes sense. Peace & light.
The song was sung at the gig that closed the games in Sydney 2000, and the front man for the band [Peter Garrett] served 2 terms in the Australian Parliament as the member for one of Eastern suburb seats of Sydney. So the song did gain some kind of acceptence in the long term and was just not seen only as a 'Protest Song'.

I loved Midnight Oil when I was a jock. It was one of those songs that you’d crank up in the studio loud enough to make the law firm downstairs complain to bldg. management. She loved our station THE ZOO, so she moved the law firm and told me to crank it up whenever I wanted, which was 99% of the time. ☮️❤️

I’m so glad you’re enjoying so many of our great singers and bands. If you’ve not heard Paul McDermott sing before, may I recommend his work to you? I particularly adore ‘Oh, My Stars’, sung live at the final recording of Good News Week, but he also does a truly amazing version of the Hunters and Gatherers classic ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’. DAAS (the Doug Anthony All Stars,the comedy music trio he was in) were just starting to be noticed by the US when Tim was first diagnosed with MS and they had to stop performing, so you mightn’t be familiar with their work.

What i like to call LP/Vinyl Worthy! If you can't do it without Autotune and Pitch Correction then you belong on CD or Digital! If you ar good enought to do it with out, then you are LP/Vinyl Worthy! This song was so overplayed on radio it one of my least liked Midnight Oil songs but this live take really was awesome and way better than the studio version.
