Brent smith is one of the most underrated vocalist and this song proves how good he truly is.
Troof
I don’t think he’s underrated but I agree with everything elsw
And one of the kindest, most honest souls you could ever have the grace of meeting and talking face to face with. What a talented and loving human being. I would strongly recommend inviting him on your show for a reaction, maybe a live reaction!
I saw them live in 07ish. Dude has amazing pipes.
He's considered one of the top vocalists in rock - how is he underrated?
45 by Shinedown is my favorite. I think yall would love that one.
Jeremiah Sanchez the acoustic version is great
Jeremiah Sanchez gotta do the acoustic version
LOVE 45....got me thru a bad breakup years ago. Probably a good thing I didn't actually HAVE a .45 back then
Yea, the acoustic version that has the story about his cousin and friend, that shit hits HARD.
I would also like to see 45. That one has some good lyrics to break down.
Cover songs are like movie sequels. The original can not be topped but sometimes you get a surprise. Shinedown did this straight justice!
I prefer this version, absolutely
@@kellysong2256 So do I.
And Alien Ant Farm with Smooth Criminal. Next to this, best cover !!
He sings with so much conviction and soul and passion. I absolutely love this cover. He did Lynyrd Skynyrd justice.
I’ve seen Shinedown live two times, hands down one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
I saw them before they got big
And honestly the nicest people I did a meet and greet and they talk to you and are genuinely happy to see you. Do a meet and greet if u can. 100% worth it
Yesssss 🥰🥰 I've been to alot of concerts but his vocal is un damnnn real 🥰🥰
Wait can you quickly comment the other concerts you have been to
🎯🍻
Shinedown “what a shame” is a great song and great meaning. Great reaction guys. Keep doin your thing
That's an underrated favorite of mine.
I agree, and the vocals are amazing in that song.
@@loganviking3923 Shinedown are underrated
I Also agree. It’s my favourite
Always get a tear in my eye when hearing that song
Their original stuff is great, his voice is one of the best in rock, “45” is great, “save me” is dope, I love “sound of madness” too and “what a shame” is another personal favorite, just to give you a few good options
My interpretation: in the original, Skynyrd had a special sound. They had a three guitar band, plus a bass player, a piano/B3 organ player, a drummer, a lead vocalist, plus background vocalists. Inspite of their instrumentation and vocals, they gave each other space (in the musical since) to work. Shinedown's version of this song is, comparatively, a stripped back version, where the focus is on the weight of the lyrics. It's an omage, if you will, to the power of the song's meaning. Shinedown does a wonderful job by paying tribute to a powerful band, playing a powerful song, but covers the song in their own way, and reintroduces the song to a newer generation that might not have heard it before. I say "well done."
Their guitarist when this was recorded was actually married to the daughter of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s vocalist.
Which is the biggest reason that Skynyrd allowed them to do the cover.
@@Templesdarkest doesn't rly make sense anyone can make a cover of any song.
@@tidalcliff2202 They have to get permission or pay royalty if they want to record it and sell it.
@@Templesdarkest so whats the reason for the deftones cover?
They have to pay the royalty regardless of getting permission. And permission is needed from whoever owns the recording rights. Which is not necessarily the band or artist.
Shinedown has some great songs, their whole first album is absolutely amazing.
Their first is absolutely the best!! I love them so much but a little less compared to the first two and especially first. But anything on the first CD is the best.
I hope these guys react to 45!
@@Mercilesstantalus anything off that album and I would be happy lol
Cody St.Clair I completely agree, I’ve been into this band from the very first moment I heard them! And the first album is so amazing!
Call me by Shinedown. I first heard this song when me and my wife were separated. It actually helped me to get her back. We've been married 15 years and going strong!
call me is such a perfect song
Every time I hear this it always brings a tear to my eye, I've had the luck of seeing them live and they really don't disappoint. One of the most humbling bands I've listened to and one of the few ive stayed consisted with for the past 15 years (29 now).
Hendrix “All Along The Watch Tower” was better than Dylan’s original version
To be fair everybodys Cover of Dylan's Original Songs were better XD
To the point that after he heard it Dylan started performing the song more in Hendrix's style.
Maybe but don't diss dylan
That's the truth
Dylan is a great songwriter but a terrible singer. I’ll take a Dylan cover over Dylan’s version any day.
Y’all should do a “covers” marathon!
Johny Cash: hurt
Nirvana: man who sold the world
Metallica: turn the page/Tuesday’s gone
Korn: wicked
Prince: creep
Tom petty: asshole
And back to back react to the originals
Also the unplugged Nirvana "Where Did You Sleep Last Night", although I am not sure if they've done that one yet.
(They've already done both versions of Hurt...)
Play4Blood I agree that there are better Metallica covers, like „the wait“ „die, die my darling“ or „helpless“, but I don’t think the ones I suggested are crap, first off, I think it’s cool as hell that they jammed with COC and Blues Traveler, that alone deserves a listen...wouldn’t call it a waste of time. But I hear you
Disturbed always nails covers-
Sound of Silence
I still haven't found what I'm looking for
Land of Confusion
FFDP had some good ones as well-
House of the Rising Sun
Gone Away
Metallica has tons of great covers but if I had to choose the best it's gotta be "Am I Evil".
Shinedown is from Jacksonville as was Skynyrd.
Played this at my grandpa’s funeral. Brings tears to my eyes. The only time I’ve seen my dad weep in tears in my entire life!
"Sound of Madness"- Shinedown is one of their best! Also "The Red" by Chevelle
The Red, but yes!!
SEEING RED AGAIN!!
Oeh, Chevelle
They’ve been sleepin on Chevelle
barely anyone reacts to chevelle
"Burning Bright" is an amazing Shinedown song
Agreed. Possibly my favorite of theirs.
Or "lost in the crowd"
Black boys and southern boys nod enthusiastically to “momma told me”.
CAN WE LET IT BE KNOWN THAT THEY HAVENT DONE FREE BIRD YET
Yes!
They NEED to. My ALL time favorite song
Their acoustic cover of this song is on a whole other level imo. Love this song.
The acoustic version is the best
Yeah, the WAAF studio version is definitely the best.
@@prelude1218 Let's be real Shinedown pulled a Whitney on Lyndard Skinnard.
I was so disappointed they didn’t listen to the acoustic
@@someonebr7862 vocals might be better but original is so much better as a whole
Please do a series called "Who does it better? Original artist or Weird Al?
Michael Connor YES!!!
I can't believe I never thought of this. This would be amazing!
Oh wow! Hahaha idk bro.
🤣
love this!
I’ve heard this done acoustically by them...I’ve never heard this version which sounds Electro-Acoustic. His voice is amazing. One of my favourite songs to sing and play along to because of the vocal range needed
Great job fellas! This was the best reaction I've seen so far. And your comments were on point.
Former Shinedown guitarist "Jasin Todd" married the daughter of "Ronnie Van Zant", the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Though it is a cover there is more to it than just that.
Very true. Both bands are from Jacksonville, Florida and when Shinedown started out they used to play a venue called Freebird Live, which was owned by Judy Van Zant, who is Ronnie's widow (and the mother of Melody, who is married to Jasin Todd). Shinedown played this as a thank you to Judy for supporting them and as a tribute to Ronnie. Incidentally, in the official video for this song there is a little girl holding a picture of a man - that man in the picture is Ronnie Van Zant and the little girl is his grand-daughter. The best comment I read about this relationship is "even most Shinedown fans don't realise that Shinedown are Lynyrd Skynyrd family."
Yep. I was going to comment this. It has a cool backstory which I think makes it a little cooler
Amen
Would love to see some Queens of the Stoneage. Maybe "No One Knows" or "3s and 7s"
Anything from songs for the deaf!!
Yes! But Little Sister or No One Know's first imo.
@Pandora Cross Hey guys they've already reacted to "No One Knows" a long time ago! It's still on their Patreon I think, surprised they haven't released it on RUclips yet. It was even with their old format lol. But they liked the song, said it was playlist for both of them.
Better living through chemistry!! Lots of Times signature changes in that one
Into the Fade, or Auto Pilot
You guys are the best, I really like the way you analyze the songs and the singers, keep up the good work
My fav version of this is the living room one u really here the core of his voice its amazing
There is a version of Brent Smith singing this song acoustically in someone’s living room and it’s freaking amazing. You guys should check it out. It shows just how good his voice is. Love the channel guys 👍🏻
Sound Of Madness
Just a badass banger. You guys will want to dig into the lyrics a lil bit.
@Connor G ok boomer
@Connor G think of it as a headbanger then
Font forget the song 45
@Connor G The newer stuff is poppy, but if u knew anything about their first couple albums, that mouth wouldn't be flapping so hard.
@Connor G do you even know what "a banger" is, in regards to this channel? Do you know why a song is called a banger? Here is a small hint....... It has nothing to do with the genre.
Been away from RUclips for a minute but when I come back you guys are near the million mark! This is amazing. I remember back when you were at the 50k mark.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Lost in Vegas dudes.
Best thing about covers is they bring the original to an audience that might not have heard it otherwise.
Brent Smith is just amazing! His acoustic cover sessions with Zach Myers are crazy good. I'd say 99% of them are at least as good as the originals, if not better.
“Devour” is my favorite Shinedown song. That song will get you on your feet!
I was RAISED on Lynyrd Skynyrd, however this is my favorite version of Simple Man. I love the raw, more stripped down sound.
A rare cover song that doesn't suck is when Corey Taylor remade Wicked Game. Check it out!!!!
Yes!
Seen Shinedown 7 times live and they put on an AMAZING show , lost power on one show finished acoustic... Great Performers
The only band to ever do this song justice. Brent Smith nailed it
A good cover is Seether's version of "Careless Whisper", it's pretty bold for sure but it's a darker more emotional version.
Yes! Please!!!
Try listening to it my speeding it up on RUclips to 1.25 speed
You are welcome
"45" and "Save Me" are two of my favorite Shinedown songs!
If you want more Shinedown I recommend “Lost in the Crowd” & “Crow & the Butterfly”
Crow and the butterfly. 👍
'Fly on the inside' is another good one!
Crow and the Butterfly is beautiful. Honestly almost everything off of Us and Them, and Leave a Whisper was fantastic
I love both of these so much!
@@GenericThomas Yes you right 👍
Love both versions. Of course grew up on Lynyrd Skynyrds my entire life cuz it’s older than me, but Brent smith brought so much to add on to the classic for sure. I actually found myself enjoying or jamming into more covers lately.
Love the honest reaction great job guys
This band is my all time favorite so I need more from them. Leave a whisper is a KILLER album some of there old music
Great song, absolutely great song. Lynyrd Skynyrd of Jacksonville FL being covered by Shinedown of Jacksonville FL
Never knew that 👍
You guys are awesome. I love how you discover new music and are open to it all. I wish everyone was. Music is the greatest thing humanity has created.
Seeing this performed live by Shinedown was absolutely incredible, gave me goosebumps.
45 by Shinedown is my favorite song out theirs. I saw them live a few years back and it was absolutely amazing.
Had my son and mom dance to this song at my wedding last year. Shinedown kills this cover.
I love you're guys analysis, even though you guys are rap guys which I'm more of nowadays but I grew up with rock over listening to it, this song being 1 of them you guys nailed this song along with LS version.
Was not expecting this, but really enjoy this cover. So great surprise. nice job guys.
Deftones did this way better boys :) you know you gotta check that out now.
Yes
Besides this, Deftones have some great covers.
Definitely
Yes Sir!!!
Do "45" by Shinedown. It was early in their career when the singer's voice was at its best.
It's awesome that you are finally doing Shinedown, and though I absolutely love their rendition of Simple Man, it's a true shame that you didn't start with one of their amazing originals. And there truly are a lot of amazing Shinedown songs including, but not limited to "Sound of Madness, Diamond Eyes, The Crow & the Butterfly, 45, Bully, I'll Follow You, Through the Ghost, and the list just goes on and on.
I love you guys! I grew up in the 60s with all that it implies. In today's world it seems to me that everyone is too concerned with their differences instead of embracing everyone's differences. I wish everyone had your attitudes. I hope having this attitude brings joy and monetary gain to your life. I tell everyone to subscribe and will check out your other endeavors.
Shinedown is my favorite band and has been for years. I reccomend some songs from the sound of madness album like the "second chance" or "the crow and the butterfly." The amaryllis album is also very underrated.
The MOST underrated album of Shinedown is TTS!!!
In all honesty I think they could pick pretty much any one of their songs (preferably one of their longer one's) make a list, with the song titles all over the page and just point to one or throw a dart. especially because LIV likes to pay attention to the lyrics. And Brent Smith is a Lyrical Mastermind!
What a Shame would be a fantastic song for them to do!
Shinedown Diamond Eye’s (Boom-lay Boom-lay Boom) or Sound of Madness
"Save Me" by Shinedown is a great song about addiction and crying for help. It has a rawness that you can tell came from their personal experiences.
Absolutely love the honesty
Deftones also did a cover of this. It's worth checking out. It's the same style, but with the sensual overtones of Chino's voice.
Antonio Thompson I love the Deftone’s cover!
More Shinedown. I would recomend Call me and Sound of madness
@Connor G three different comments dissing this band?! what do you listen to so I can take a shit on them lol
@Connor G Exactly. They're so overrated.
Connor G ok boomer
Connor G you a troll man
@@dylanhenry4329 Imagine thinking one of the most successful rock groups of the decade is over rated.
If you want a cover with a twist, check out Chris Cornell singing Michael Jackson's Billie Jean
or Prince's "Nothing Compares"
@John Stowe, Sinead recorded the song and had a hit with it but Prince is the one that wrote Nothing compares 2 u. So not really a cover.
@@mikestewart2520 Chris Cornell does the song as well. I think that's what they were talking about. Check it out Chris doing nothing compares to you is great
What I wouldn't give to sit and have coffee and talk to you both about music,life..you name it. Love you both
Love Shinedown. You guys need to do Whitesnake - Still of the night. Killer 80's rock anthem with one of metal's best vocalists.
Great Tune..! they should do some Tesla too
Oh you should see them do it live....it's friggin AWESOME 💗 Brett recorded this a while back when they were still the best kept secret, he totally nailed this cover. I love Skynyrd but Shinedown took it to another level.
Very well spoken fellas. I love it
Really great insight and perspective on this. Agree 100%
Chris Cornell - Billie Jean cover.... completely flipped that and made it his own
Or his version of Nothing Compares 2 U.
deftones covered it as well and they put a very interesting spin on it.
Lynyrd Skynyrd are from Jacksonville, Florida. Just so you know. ✌🏻
Yes. Best cover is definitely Deftones.
LOVE the Deftones cover.
Love the Deftones cover!
I was gonna comment "gross", but if a few people are saying it's cool, I'll check it out.
Be right back...
I love Southern Rock. Lynyrd Skynyrd released this song when I was young. So I have heard it for a long time. I never thought that it was a great song , until Shinedown sang it.
Thank you for being real about it.
I was so hyped to see you guys do this reaction, Shinedown is an incredible band, and this song always gives me chills when I listen to
Great & honest reaction, fellas. But, I just wanted to point out that Lynyrd Skynyrd were actually from Florida, and not Alabama.
Both bands are from Jacksonville, so it's a bit more of a tribute in my opinion. Fellow "local boys made good" paying respect.
I caught that too lol
We played this at my brothers funeral and it always reminds me of him . This was a great cover song !
They put on such a great show. I try to see them whenever they come to town.
Chris Cornell cover of MJ's Billie Jean is a must!
Civil wars cover of it aswell!
Haha, have you heard the Eric Clapton/Michael Jackson song called Billie Cocaine?
@@RageAgainstRustyCage Yeah! That crazy mashup, it's cool ahah
Dream Theater - The Glass Prison
You guys are too real 💯
So glad u found Shinedown
"Seether - Careless whisper" great George Michael cover.
Kenny G as well
One of the best covers of all time!!!
So fn good, dude!!
THIS..........
Agreed
Check out Alien Ant Farm’s cover of smooth criminal! Legit good!
That video was crazy with that kid with the pollution/operation mask doing his best MJ on the sidewalk! They gotta include the video just for that kid! It was a great cover. I have always enjoyed "punk" covers of pop songs.
Nah
Love it. Very well done. Never thought the anybody could outdo the original.
Love your comments on covers,so true, even on this song but shinedown are so much more than this.
Live version of this is heaven.
Concert one
Accept- Balls to the Wall
GnR - Civil War
Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides
Definitely "Playlisters" for me
Guys, first of all, I love your channel. I love the grin that comes over your faces when you hear music that hits home, because that's exactly the same grin I get. Also, shoutout to ATL, lived there 6 months in '17-'18 and actually saw Shinedown's Smith & Myers at the Masquerade where they did this song on their set list. I would love to see you do From Can to Can't where Corey Taylor from Slipknot sings his heart out. It's on the "Sound City: Real to Reel" record/documentary by Dave Grohl and some others and it really hits the feels. Love from the land of Ice and Snow, From the Midnight Sun Where The Hot Springs Flow - T
Your comments and thoughts on this song reflect my own feelings and thoughts on most current music. So much of today's music feels empty...and hollow.....and lifelesss...nothing compared to the soul and grit and rawness of music made PRE-MTV. Great reaction video guys, love your channel.
Very smart take on this track. Great cover for sure, but it does definitely lack what the original gave us.
Brent Smith with Apocalyptica - Not Strong Enough 🔥🔥
I second this - an amazing song with a brilliant Vocal!
45 is probably what I think of when I think of Shinedown! totally agree with your thoughts on this one...Love you guys ! keep on rocking
Just came across this and thought and I’d like to share; It's very personal to them. Both bands are from Jacksonville, Fl and Shinedown original guitarist was married to the late Skynard original singer (Ronnie’s) daughter. They also regularly played at a venue called Freebird Live which was owned by Ronnie widowed wife. So it's not only a cover, but a huge tribute to Ronnie (original lead singer) his wife. Crazy!
For me it usually comes down to which song I hear first, as long as it's a song I actually like. If you think about doing Shinedown again might I suggest Sound of Madness or 45. Thanks for another great vid.
Led Zeppelin - No Quarter
And the Tool version pls
Throw in Crowbar's version as well. They all 3 stand on their own.
yes pls
Crobar version
Imagine finding out Shinedown did a cover of simple man in 2020.. only 17 years late. Thank you for showing a difference demo the magic of Shinedown.
That's Soo funny that's the first time I've ever hear them talk down about following a formula! Haha I know covers are different but still it was pretty interesting to see that reaction. I love these guys and will continue to follow for sure, but I just didn't expect that.
“Shinedown - What a Shame”
Do it!
Alireza Khodaparast It is soo good, love the drumming so much as a mom of an excellent drummer. I think the song has so much heart.
All I Ever Wanted is my personal favorite of theirs with Burning Bright being a close second.
You should definitely check out their acoustic performance live from Kansas City. Brent Smith is a truly outstanding vocalist.
Had to go rewatch your review LS simple man
