The way I interpret the ending is that it doesn’t matter which of them got shot. We all, like the people during the credits, will move on with our lives just fine because we’re so desensitized to the pain nowadays. Love your reactions!
That was probably the explicit intent. I don’t know if this adds to anything, but this intention was the meaning behind the final shot in _Inception_ : It’s ambiguous, but unresolved because no one in-universe cares.
Fecalage yeah i also believe both were shot dead esp bc of the tandem scene of the mom finally logging into her daughter's profile, like a way of saying that it's not only the people struggling with mental health issues who suffer, the people around them are affected & pay the price as well
Their point was everyone was glued to the story for 15 minutes but once it was done nobody really cared what happened it doesn't effect their lives then just went on constantly glued to their phone
Of all the Black Mirror episodes, this one really, really hit me. There are so many elements at play here and yet it's not the usual affair, in fact it's set in the past. The subplot with the mother that gets wrapped up at the end had me crying for the rest of the day. The love she had to be in that desperate predictament, the love he had to use the situation to do that for her, and then the love the daughter had for her mother which was then confirmed. Oh my god. Black Mirror has always been poignant but this was another level and I genuinely couldn't handle it. I still can't handle it. Brooker you bastard
i really like the ending. christopher died to try and stop even a few people from constantly checking their phones. and when he (presumably) does die, what does everyone do? check their phones, see the news, and move on. another life wasted, just like the road accident, which is the thing that sparked all this.
@Terror Antula except its not just a documentary about it. Its a story with tension and character, that is just based around the event. The plot isn't the explosion, that happens in the first few seconds, we all know its gonna happen. The plot is the events that follow and the deeper story.
To all the people out there who related to the “I don’t want to be here anymore” line, just please know that you’re not alone. There are so many of us who felt that line at a deep, painful level, and every day; every hour that you keep fighting and staying here is a victory.
Sesska, If an when you do go back to this episode for a rewatch, Listen out for the use of Music and pay attention to the close up on Eyes, For example the story starts with Chris opening his eyes and ends with Billy closing his.
People are so worried about self driving cars yet drivers are paying less and less attention to the road i will feel much safer once all cars are self driving
The end shows how differently the tech leaders treat their products than we do. At the end, everyone gets back to their lives: he meditates, everyone else is glued to their phones. In the real world this is true too: many tech leaders minimise their own and their families' use of the technologies they develop.
I don't think Christopher was necessarily placing blame on Billy Bauer. as he said, he was confessing to someone he thought could make a difference. he's also british so he couldn't help but have a twinge of sarcasm, even in his darkest moment. this is my second favorite episode of the season for sure. such an amazing look at how quickly we forget about trending tragedies on social media. Charlie Brooker is a genius.
The ending made me think of the song “Copacabana”. It’s deliberately ambiguous as to whom the finality refers to, and having it answered definitively would change the meaning of it.
Oh! I interpreted the end as Jaden being shot, mainly because Billy went back to meditating, and he’d actually spoken to Christopher, so he had a connection with him- surely if Christopher got shot, he would have possibly reacted ? I’m not really that sure but that was just the way I read it. Also, this episode was GREAT! The only one in the new season I really connected with unfortunately. Great video!
The point to me was social media has take over humans emotional feelings. People look at a post and go about their life. The reason was because the two young gentlemen posted the shots
Fantastic Drama, great acting, brilliant writing and compelling story telling all slightly undermined by being part of Black Mirror thereby setting up a twist that doesn't come. Loved it all the same.
So I actually liked it more the second time watching it. This season felt a bit of a cop out every ending is ambiguous and I wish it was more ‘black mirrory’
olives it's really not ambiguous if you just put a little effort & pay just a little attention... I'm worried black mirror will go back to its "here's a traumatizing cautionary tale of why technology is bad" predictability, bc of these kinds of comments even though they did a commendable job in trying to break that mold this ssn...I really hope not but oh well
Not entirely sure I agreed with this one. Correct me if I'm wrong but the message seemed to be that social media is wrong rather than placing the blame on the people who allow themselves to be distracted when driving. I keep my phone in airplane mode when I'm driving. It's the person's fault not the technology. Of course if the message is something else feel free to correct me but that's what I took from this episode.
Not what good stories "they" keep coming up with, it's all one writer, the genius Charlie Brooker, who I've been a big fan of since before the first ep' of Black Mirror.
Charlie Brooker and Annabelle Jones, who is a producer on Black Mirror. They come up with the stories together, she's very much one half of the brains behind it, but Charlie writes the scripts themselves.
This episode was trash. The only good thing was Andrew's acting. The entire episode was boring and took place in the car. You'd think that the driver who caused the crash was on his phone so that's why Christopher would be targeting Smithereen, but no it was himself? That's stupid. It's your own damn fault you looked at your fucking phone so you have no reason to blame technology itself for your fiancee's death. That's such a boring cliche that's been extremely overused already. And then it ends on a cliffhanger? Aka the laziest mechanic ever used to end a story? Including the side plot of the woman who lost her daughter?? No resolution there for us either??? Terrible. This entire season was disappointing and this episode was no exception.
Come on man, isn't it obvious that he does blame himself, but thinks, "This may never have happened if these sites weren't so addictive"? Plus, I'd only imagine in his situation you'd feel the need to put at least some of the blame on something else as a matter of relief, even to lift a tiny degree of guilt from your shoulders. The chain-smoking analogy in the episode works; if you smoke heavily and develop a disease as a result, yes, that's probably your own doing, but at the same time you could argue the tobacco industry is also at fault for making toxic substance so damn addictive.
It’s one of my favourite episodes. Didn’t get bored at any point, despite the setting. And i ain’t so sure you can just pin the blame entirely on him. Fact is if it weren’t so addictive, he wouldn’t have done it

It reminded me of The Truman Show's ending. " What else is on?"
Tommy Murga That’s exactly the point they’re making, in my opinion. However, I think the title “Smithereens” strongly implies both were blown to bits.
That was probably the explicit intent.
I don’t know if this adds to anything, but this intention was the meaning behind the final shot in _Inception_ : It’s ambiguous, but unresolved because no one in-universe cares.

What'd you mean. It would have been tragic as f if the intern died
Andrew Scott is brilliant in anything he does
You’ve got to admire an actor who can play a rising blood pressure.
@@BlackCover95 from sexy priest to verge of a coronary in 2 roles!

yeah....because it doesn't affect their lives.
When he said he doesn’t want to be here anymore, I felt so sad the rest of the episode...
The British episodes are so gritty and brilliant. Brooker is a brilliant writer.
this was my favorite episode of the season. felt like shut up and dance in terms of it just being very realistic and in the moment
yeah, i really want more realistic episodes that don't involve sci-fi
I loved this episode. The acting was absolutely phenomenal!
Agree...... It doesn't get the respect it deserves.

"The lat episode didn't really rip out my heart...." Try the HBO series Chernobyl. Five episodes long. You'll need five hearts.
@Terror Antula That's an argument for not watching Titanic. A lot of people don't know what happened at Chernobyl
@Terror Antula or just people who don't know everything about every event that ever happened
@Terror Antula except its not just a documentary about it. Its a story with tension and character, that is just based around the event. The plot isn't the explosion, that happens in the first few seconds, we all know its gonna happen. The plot is the events that follow and the deeper story.

Ok, this is my second video of yours (first was Striking Vipers). You rock! I love watching your reactions. Well done, you got my sub. Best of luck.
I wanna believe this was the beginning of Moriarty 😂

I think Jaden got shot because of the shocked, horrified look on the cop's face. I don't think she would have that reaction if it was Christopher.
I still love how they used Daydreaming as a freaking “on hold” song. It’s so perfect.

Such a SAD ending 😕

I need a snapping emoji to show my appreciation for Andrew Scott..
