    "The End" Part 1: • LOST Soundtrack Analys...
    "Moving On" (Final scene): • LOST Soundtrack Analys...
    "I'll see you in another life, brother."
    For the series finale of LOST, Michael Giacchino pays tribute to the characters by uniting over 50 established themes... But the island demands one more before the show ends.
    #LOST SOUNDTRACK ANALYSIS (Michael Giacchino's score)
    So many years after the show's ending, Michael Giacchino's amazing soundtrack for LOST still has many, many secrets to uncover. Not only does every main character have their own theme music, but much like the interconnected writing of the show itself, Giacchino's score connects locations, scenes, emotions and conflicts in unbelievably brilliant ways. For the foreseeable future, I will be exploring Michael Giacchino's soundtrack from ABC's LOST in a weekly video, covering all episodes of the show and their musical connections to each other.

    I remember being so overwhelmingly happy in the series finale when "Parting Words" got blasted off on a high-note when Ajira left. It felt like we hadn't heard it since, like, forever. It was so emotionally rewarding. The diegetic performance by DriveShaft was something I didn't notice until when the soundtrack CD came out months later :P However, you're correct in your analysis with the band. Them being together in the afterlife is so satisfying since it goes all the way back to season 1. Charlie in the flashbacks facing the truth saying "Drive Shaft might be dead" in the flashback, but also later on trying to get the band together. Their reunion concert would happen in the afterlife instead - playing diegetic music from "Lost". Going outside of the comfort zone. Speaking of which, that was a nice "finale twist" at the end hearing your voice as the pilot of this video series! :)
    Covid certainly warped our sense of time. I am thinking back when you got the spark to this after the Lost concert in 2019. That feels ages ago! Congratulations on coming to the end. And especially since it is a culmination of a journey from long ago. I remember being a little bit bummed out when the "Lost musical connections"-videos came to a halt ten years ago and was thoroughly excited when you decided to re-enter this field (in a better format - episode by episode), but also that you did it from the beginning to the end. Thank you so much!

    Oh my goodness, I can't believe we've reached the end! Thank you so very much for your incredible dedication and hard work on this series... I cannot BELIEVE how many connections and details you noticed over the years! I truly hope that you continue to get the recognition you genuinely deserve for these videos!

    I can't believe it's The End! Thank you so much for these videos. It's been a joy to watch (and I've been going back to the older videos which make a great companion to a rewatch). So great to hear from you at the end. I can't wait for whatever more LOST videos you have coming!
    I'm also cool with Boone and Shannon's theme sneaking into the Driveshaft concert cause that means Boone is one more main character whose theme appears in the finale.

      Thanks a lot! Yeah, that's a good point. It's so great that even the dead characters get a bit of a 'tribute' in the score from the final episode. Daniel Faraday, Juliet, Shannon, and obviously Locke...

    Whoah, this is amazing! Your videos are awesome and have been a great way of living through all of that amazing experiences once more, and I must admit that it made me emotional a couple of times. Giacchin'o's soundtrack for LOST is definitely one of the greatest achievements in music for television, and you did it justice. Great work, and happy to hear this is not the end for LOST music!

    Also, do you know of any other TV show or shows that have a similar level of detail in the recurring themes and motifs?

    • @FringeMusic107
      @FringeMusic107  2 года назад +4

      Ramin Djawadi similarly writes a ton of themes for the shows he works on, like "Person Of Interest" and "Westworld". His score for "Game Of Thrones" is quite detailed with its themes for characters, locations, cultures, etc. That show probably would come close if it had run for more episodes (than God it didn't)... but 540 themes/motifs is obviously insane. "Fringe" is another one that comes to mind.

    So I have a question for you. It's my dream to make a massive LOST retrospective sometime (focused on analyzing it from a storytelling perspective and deep diving into the mystery and character drama and such, both the good and bad) and obviously showing clips from the show itself is going to be an important part of that. I don't have any prior experience with creating that sort of video, so I have no idea how to export clips of the show and how to avoid getting whacked by copyright infringement. Can you share how you got clips from the show, and if you can how to avoid getting copyrighted with it? I would really appreciate any help, I have no idea what I'm doing with that lol.

      Hi! First of all, thanks for watching. 😁I used rips from the official LOST Blu-Rays for the video files. As for how to avoid copyright... Sad to say, I haven't fully figured that one out yet. 😉 This video specifically was the last of over 50 attempts to upload the Soundtrack Analysis for the series finale without it being blocked worldwide... What I did notice over the course of this project is that you're mostly fine if the videos are under 10 minutes, or if you can keep the individual clips short (usually under 30 seconds, but sometimes a lot shorter). For this particular project, that was a real pain because fragments of music are usually longer than that if you want to get a point across. For instance, in this video, at the 4:11 mark, you'll notice I was forced to have the image fade to black nearly 10 seconds before the music was actually finished - the result is not really what I had in mind. It was also originally intended to be one single video, instead of a two-parter. There's other cuts I made throughout the video to keep it under 10 minutes without losing important parts of the music I wanted to show. Anyway, I think for storytelling analysis, you'll probably be able to use shorter clips and make quicker cuts. I'd love to see it once it's finished!

      @@FringeMusic107 Thanks for the response! I own most of the LOST dvd's already so I suppose that could work just as well. Though my PC doesn't have a disc drive unfortunately so I would have to find an external device to do that. I can say with absolute certainty that when all is said and done the videos will be a LOT more sizeable than 10 minutes lol, but yeah most of the clips will be very short and will often be covered with narration rather than the show's audio itself. I don't know how much of a difference it makes on copyright using the audio or not but hopefully that would help my case.
