    Another good one, Russ! I hunt in all metal, then flip to DISC to help me delineate the target before deciding to dig. I’ll try tone mode next time. These quick tutorials remind me of your 3 minute Thursdays. Easier to remember than a loaded video. Thanks!

    Hello, I have a BH4 and am lucky to have a 115-acre farm on which I have found many artifacts that are 100 years old or more, along with a few pennies and a nickel but not old But this is a farm built in the 1800s and I am amazed that I have not yet found any old coins. I work around what would be foot traveled areas, hard to imagine that in 150 years nobody lost anything.

      @AmericanDetection  6 месяцев назад

      I'd concentrate where the house or other structures were. More opportunity to have dropped coins vs. a foot path or old trail where money stayed in pockets. Find where all the iron is, and you'll find the old coins and relics.

    I am borrowing a Tracker IV and using it to try and find my car key and other keys that are attached and also has about a 3” rectangular decorative metal bottle opener on the keys as well. I am scanning snow banks as I believe I lost them in the snow while sledding but before it got plowed. I have it in all metal mode, sensitivity is on high but not sure what my “Disc/Notch” setting should be or even if it matters or not. I had no luck so I was wondering if it is just not scanning deep enough, snow banks are about 3-4 feet tall

      I tried turning up the discrimination to 12 & 1 o'clock in tone mode on the Tracker 4, however, I still get a strong signal for pull tabs (sometimes choppy and sometimes a solid signal). I also pick up foil, nails, fence wire (barbed and baseball fencing), and beer caps in Tone mode @ 12'oclock. I've also picked up what I think maybe lead at the beach. Pls advise.

    Russ - I am going to Maine for vacation. Where I am staying has a little beach area that folks congregate too during the day. What would be my best settings to find stuff other than bottle caps? The beach is 30 feet in depth and about 50 feet wide. Sand - no dirt.

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  Месяц назад

      On the beach, I’d get a scoop and dig EVERYTHING it’s not hard digging on the beach and small gold chains will sound like iron. That’s true with almost all detectors.

    I'm using my Bounty Hunter Tracker IV to find my property marker stakes (basically a length of rebar set in the ground under the grass), I found them once before, but am having trouble now. I have run it over the one that I have dug up and exposed to use as a comparison, but am having a lot of trouble finding the other ones, do you have any suggestions for this situation?

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  Месяц назад +1

      Hunt in all metal. Disc or tone will detect any iron. And run the sensitivity as high as possible.

    I picked up a used Radio Shack Discovery 1000 which is the same as a Tracker IV. The Disc & Tone mode don’t appear to work. No matter where I set the Potentiometer all I get is a high tone. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

      Doesnt sound like the coil, It could be the potentiometer itself.

    • @AmericanDetection

      Does it happen when you are on dry sand too, or when in regular soil? If not it's probably due to the mineralization of the wet salty sand. Try turning your sensitivity down when in the why salty sand. If it does do it when in the dry and or on regular soil is one of two things. 1. Your coil isn't plugged in tightly. Unplug it and plug it back in. 2. You have a loose wire somewhere in the coil. You will need to replace the coil. Good luck.

    Curiously is there any way to not pick up aluminum cans? I'm at a Fairground and I can't get away from them on tone mode. Just have to guess by how big the area is.. I'm using a bounty hunter IV

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  2 года назад +2

      That's a tuff one. The reason is because the large cans will act just like a silver coin. If you think it might be a can I'd suggest trying to raise your coil off the ground at least 6 inches and swing over it. If you can still detect the target chances are it's a large buried can. I hope this helps some.

      @Jeffrey Stelling Hello. They are brand specific and go beyond that to being model specific in many instances. Tell me what are you looking to do with the coil (more depth, see-through high trash areas to find the coins, gild prospect, etc., along with what detector you have and I can suggest what coil might suit your needs.

      @@AmericanDetection I have the bounty hunter tracker 4. Honestly I'm a beginner,and haven't got a chance to use it yet due to the winter weather here. I would probably be using it just for coins and jewelry. I have subscribed to your channel and did watch a video where you talked about coils,and from what I gathered is that the coil it comes with is fine and the other coils just help with tighter areas,smaller coil,broader areas,bigger coil.

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  Год назад +1

      @Jeffrey Stelling You are 100% correct. For now, the stock 8" coil will be all you need. Honestly, you may never need another coil. But if you decide to get another coil I'd go with the small 4" sniper coil for high trash areas. I believe that more "goodies" are hidden by trash than by depth. However, if you feel you need more depth you can always look at an 11"DD. But I wouldn't be in any rush to purchase either. Get to know the machine with that stock coil first. Good luck!
