love this detector i just use it in all metal mode all the time dont mind digging trash i have the garret ace 300i as well and it does my head in with all the signalls constantly changing from high to low and vice versa even on low sensitivity
Great video, thank you! I've been told not to use this detector on wet sand (saltwater) because it won't work. I left it in all metal and turned down the sensitivity, I was able to find a large object (pliers) is this just because it was a large object, would I not detect coins or gold (rings) in wet sand? Thanks!
There will definitely be more noise when detecting in some et sands. We have often seen this on beaches. It makes detecting a little more difficult as you will get false signals. Turn sensitivity down. If you get a signal, swing back and forth over it. Tones need to be clear and repeatable. If not, move on.
Hi there, you can't fully submerge it, but it does have a waterproof coil so you could use in shallow water like a creek etc. We would recommend wiping and drying coil after use
You might need to discriminate out iron signals, and one thing to be careful off is some false positives, especially in wet beach sand. The detector might give a signal, but the trick is go go back and forth over that section of sand a few times and if the signal isnt clear and repeatable then it isn't a target to dig. On beaches you want clear and repeatable tones when sweeping the coil. Good luck!
HI joe, the sensitivity knob will need to be adjusted to ensure you don't get chatter or chirps from things like very conductive ground (each, wet beach sand etc) or nearby powerlines etc. For all metal mode, you would typically leave the Notch/Discriminator knob in the off position, so the detector will react to all metals (including Iron). You can turn the know clockwise to remove iron tones if you want.
Have had mine for about a year or so. Since day one, I no matter what I do, I can not get it to discriminate anything. The other day I found an aluminum foil ball 2 inches deep. In tone mode with disc knob 3/4 of the way to all the way on.
We suggest checking all cable connections, check the batteries as well, and ensure you use Duracells (we find these work most reliably). If that doesn't help, contact Bounty Hunter in your local region to see if they can assist.
Extremely informative! Thank you for explaining the proper use of the equipment. I do have a question though. Does sensitivity play a huge part in 'Tone' as it does in 'disc' mode?
Discrimination is not an exact science as the signal generated in a metal detector depends on a number of variables, including target size & shape, depth, corrosion of the target, as well as conductivity. Gold does have a relatively high conductivity compared to some other metals, however, gold's conductivity is not as high as copper and silver and it is actually closer to aluminium that either of those. This is why silver and copper will give a high tone on the tracker 4, but not necessarily gold. Electrical conductivity (10.E6 Siemens/m) Silver 62,1 copper 58,5 Gold 44,2 Aluminium 36,9
Thank you for the response! I'm still confused as to what items, besides aluminum, will be rejected with too high a setting, or if I'm risking missing targets of value if I keep turning that knob up.
Hi Don Corman. Yes, the more you turn up the disc, the more targets you will exclude and that may well mean you miss something good. Most detectorists who are specifically targeting gold nuggets will not use discrimination at all to maximise sensitivity (and because most dedicated gold detectors only have limited discrimination functionality, especially with mono coils). Discrimination really comes into its own when relic hunting. Even then, I usually only use it very lightly - enough to just filter out iron. The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV detector has the capability to discriminate much more harshly, but this is really only for people specifically targeting silver and copper coins in a high trash environment. Otherwise, I don't think the disc dial should be turned up high.
do you know of a prospecting metal detecting club around the Mornington Peninsula area -covers Rosebud Vic that have family membership or husband wife membership we both have a current miner's right for prospecting around Victoria. advice/guidance appreciated for us newbies to this out door camping hobby

Hi there, metal Detectors (of all types) will detect metal in the ground. The depth may vary, but should be at least 12cm deep, up to much greater depths. This will be affected by the quality of the machine, the size of the coil, and size/composition of the metal target. We have used the Bounty Hunter tracker 4 frequently in the field, finding coins and small er metal objects at depths of 15cm or more.
I'm thinking of buying my first detector. To my ears, in tone mode the only one that sounded different was the copper coin. The pull tab sounded the same as the gold ring. So I guess if you're looking for gold jewelry at a beach be prepared to dig thousands of pull tabs. Isn't gold also highly conductive ? Which is why they gold plate computer electrical connections.
Hi Thom. Good question and yes - you are correct - picking gold out from aluminium can be tricky, even with a top of the line relic detector. I've been detecting for years and I am very familiar with my machines, but I still dig plenty of aluminium targets. Discrimination is not an exact science as the signal generated in a metal detector depends on a number of variables, including target size & shape, depth, corrosion of the target, as well as conductivity. Gold does have a relatively high conductivity compared to many other metals and, as you suggest, it is used in electronics for this, but also because of it's resistance to corrosion, a property not shared by either silver or copper. However, gold's conductivity is not as high as copper and silver and it is actually closer to aluminium that either of those. This is why silver and copper will give a high tone on the tracker 4, but not necessarily gold. I would always go fairly low on discrimination in most situations - just enough to get most iron out. You might do a lot more digging, but you will avoid missing something special! Your first detector depends on your budget. If your looking sub $300, then the Tracker IV won't disappoint - it's a reliable machine that does what it says on the tin and is great value! If you're going for a more expensive relic detector, look for one with a wide range of discrimination tones and good depth. Electrical conductivity (10.E6 Siemens/m) Silver 62,1 copper 58,5 Gold 44,2 Aluminium 36,9 Hope this helps Bear, Hobby Detectors.
Thom Vogan you will find many pull tabs before a ring. I still been digging old pull tabs from my back yards. The pull tabs I dig up don't look like the ones today
Hi Frank. An understandable question, but the answer is not quite so cut and dried as there are a number of things that affect the depth to which a detector can pick up targets. For a given detector, the main factors are target size, shape and material. Iron is typically easy to detect and a large iron target like an axe head could possibly be detected to 30cm or more in good ground. Copper and Silver coins, being highly conductive, are also strong targets and typically you could pick up the larger ones (shillings and pennies) to around 15 to 20cm. The other key consideration when detecting beaches is salt, which does affect some highly sensitive detectors, causing a lot of ground noise (false targets). The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV auto ground-balances and is usually not overly affected, though you may lose some of the depth in wet sand that is very salty. Hope that helps, Cheers Bear Hobby Detectors
Self Sufficiency How To Guide That's very helpful, thanks for to info. I intend to buy one and take it to the beach in Thailand where I'm living. I can't wait to get started. Thanks again
Only larger concentrations of metals will set off the detector. If you are in a heavily mineralised area, this may give the odd false tone as well. In the video we tested on a lawn, with normal garden dirt under grass.

We have used the Bounty Hunter tracker 4 frequently in the field, finding coins and small er metal objects at depths of 15cm or more.
Awesome video, I subbed you 👍🔔👈👋👊🤝🤟🏴😁..
Electrical conductivity (10.E6 Siemens/m)
Silver 62,1
copper 58,5
Gold 44,2
Aluminium 36,9
Hope this helps
Bear, Hobby Detectors.
Thom Vogan you will find many pull tabs before a ring. I still been digging old pull tabs from my back yards. The pull tabs I dig up don't look like the ones today
Could you tell me what the maximum depth a tracker four will find targets in all metal mode on a beach please?
Hope that helps,
Cheers

Self Sufficiency How To Guide That's very helpful, thanks for to info. I intend to buy one and take it to the beach in Thailand where I'm living. I can't wait to get started. Thanks again
Can i eleminate minerals?
Only larger concentrations of metals will set off the detector. If you are in a heavily mineralised area, this may give the odd false tone as well.
In the video we tested on a lawn, with normal garden dirt under grass.
Great advice really helped
I’m trying to find my friends wedding ring oh 14k gold. What sound do I need to hear?
It should be a higher tone. You can test it by finding another gold item, laying it on some ground and waving over that.
Down under ...the ground. Good stuff!
I need to get one of these..
my Clepto aunt who lives with us is suspected of taking my Sterling Silver Fork and
I need to retrieve it from her room in which she always leaves it open, but
I don't like to snoop in people's things so I just want the machine to do it.
whattayouguys think? I'm really pissed, that fork was worth $75 it was a Wallace Sterling Fork
i need a metal detector with discrimination controls..
I just want my Fork back..🤷♂️👀✨
Probably under her mattress 🙂
Its probably long since been sold..
Excellent first detector for anyone, also they’re very inexpensive, about $130.00 USD or less.
Right now, on Amazon, they're only $79.99
Picked up two of them for my grandkids. $40 each used. Found a lot of targets. can't dig ground is frozen solid. Also picked up a cheap pointer $33. Tested that out as well. It works pretty well. Can't wait for spring.
Yeah, I'm satisfied with the Tracker IV.
Thank you from Russia
