  • Made for Budweiser distributors of 1972 and only shown there; not shown to the public. Note that the singer at @24:00 minutes is Pat Henderson, but that she is lip syncing the voice of Valerie Simpson (of Ashford and Simpson).

Budweiser was one of the primary sponsors of 'THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON" during most of its NBC run- and Ed McMahon became famous for appearing in their commercials.

"From Hollywood" - But the set is the last version Carson used in New York ('71-'72).

This was probably produced during one of the weeks Johnny and Ed were in Hollywood in early 1972, before they made their permanent move to the West Coast that May.

Thanks. Interesting material, especially seeing the ads then going to the print ad version of them. I wonder why they even bothered to dub Pat Henderson's voice when you can barely hear her over the chorus anyway.

My late father was a Budweiser drinker.

Wow! I wonder if there are other similar sponsor or affiliate programs like this out there?
Is this film rather than tape? Or perhaps videotape converted to film?

Is that a specially constructed set? It doesn't look like either the NY or Hollowood sets of that time.

YES! For the purpose of this sales film, it "simulates"- and was supposed to represent- the basic "TONIGHT SHOW" set of the day.

I see Ed mcMahon and Jerry Lewis riding the Budweiser Clydesdales in Lowell,Mass .. Ed hometown back in the 70's and boy Ed was drunk......Over a 1 million was at the parade...
In the 1970s, Lowell held Oktoberfest celebrations that included a cultural festival and parade that marched from Fort Hill in Belvidere to City Hall. In 1974, the 200-unit procession included 50 bands, 50 floats, military, Shriners, fire departments and youth groups. Leading the Oktoberfest parade was Lowell’s own Ed McMahon, who brought along his sidekick from the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, actor and comedian Jerry Lewis.
According to the Oct. 6, 1974, edition of The Sun, McMahon, “the hometown boy who made good,” was greeted by a large crowd, and he and Lewis received an honorary doctor of science degree from Lowell Tech. Mayor Armand LeMay also presented Lewis with a key to the city.
