Interesting advice...Wanna guess what this Old Gun Pilot just did to his '13 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn 5.7Hemi, 6AT, 3:55 Rear End, Crew Cab 4x4? I spent $200 for the Flowmaster 40 welded(awesome sound and noticeable performance improvements) and I pushed the Tow/Haul Mode button in for City Driving. The tow/haul button changes the shift mapping to delay shifts until higher RPMs than usual are reached in order to keep the engine in the power band. It will also hold lower gears going downhill to provide engine braking assistance. However, once I hit 70mph on the slab I disengage Tow Haul Mode and set the CC. No drone noise whether the ECO light comes on or goes off. Yeah, I know, what a P.I.T.A. to have to reach over to the center console and push the THM Button BUT the crisp shift points totally outweighs the yellow advisory message on the DIC. And it saves me about $350 for the Diablo Performance iTune 3. So, at least for me, the THM Button is my Instant Poor Man's Ram Onboard On Demand Tuner. Did I really hear 'Torque Converter and Headers' for my Ram Hemi 6AT? Sorry, I just stopped blowing my kid's inheritance at $200 as I don't include the new Nexen All Terrain Skins as a 'Performance Mod'. I did read a European Engineering Paper 0n a Comparative Analysis between K&N CAIs and OEM Paper Air Filter Systems. Not good for K&N. However, for now I am sticking with Mopar OEM Air Filters, Oil Filters, and Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil. Great Video but I'm going with the OEM Mopar Instant Tune with the push of a button...Go Tow Haul Mode!!! BTW my MPGs are exactly the same as with the Goodyear Wrangler SR-As.... 13/17 (Window Sticker EPA Numbers). However, IF I back off to 62mph on fairly level slab I get 19.8mpg with the new skins inflated to 44psi. When you're old, banged up, on a fixed pension, you learn to do the best you can with what you've got... Stay Safe...JP
Thx for the great vid as always! I just wanted to back you up on the gear changes. For 2 wheel drive trucks if your running 3.21’s, doing a swap to 3.29’s is a no brained. They’re super cheap and easy to put in. Now, if you have a 4x4, totally different story. I was really considering 3.92’s and definitely decided against them today. The front end is welded shut so it is a huge and expensive job to swap the front gears. I did a lot of research on this and even spoke with with a very well known mopar shop in my area and they said it would cost upwards of $2,500 to do a front gear change. There is so much more bang for your buck that you can do. The only feasible option would be to find a Ram in a junkyard with 3.92’s and do a direct swap. Then it would be totally worth it but it’s going to be a hard find.
Hey man love the content,very informative,I have a 16 ram rebel and I’m looking for suggestions on some mods to get me into the mid to high 13’s range not really for the track but more for the 13 sec seat of the pants feeling compared to stock if that makes sense.. do you think jay greene tune,long tubes,intake and exhaust will get me there? Nice vid man. Good list. I have a '13 express crew 4x4 6spd 3.55. I have intake, t/b, long tubes no cats, cut out, 305/50 toyo on stock wheels and jay greene 93 tune. Gotta say the tune was the best bang for buck. No dyno yet. More mods to come. Been a great daily driver for me.
I have added a cold air intake, headers & exhaust to my 2009 RAM 1500 SLT. Disabling the MDS and Looking into a tuner. Which tuner would you recommend?
@@josh6998 I got an S&B. Really like it. Biggest airflow increase out of any of them...like 42% more than stock. Looks great under the hood with the clear cover and sounds great. I think it's great. More airflow means more hp basically so its top dog I think. Install was kind of a bitch but worth it. I recommend it 100%

Cant speak to how it is when you leave it in but with it out is when you get that 42% more airflow than stock. With the plug in I think its 30 something or so. That thing sucks like a monster when you get on it...sounds like a beast and notice it. I also installed an Edge Pulsar at the same time..and wow was I happy. Got one off Ebay for half price. 8 modes and the 8 is pretty nuts. I run it in mode 6 and it's much more responsive and aggresive than stock.

What size is your muffler and does it drone? I have a 18" magmaflow muffler and it sounds good. I am just worried if I make the switch to long tubes I'll be pissing off the neighbours.
Eric Dauphinais I do have a lil drone but I don't notice it at all I have MBRP catback so I'm not sure of the exact muffler size but it's actually pretty small Im also catless so it's louder than having cats
Eric Dauphinais listen to my truck. I’m running a borla xr-1 and long tubes. The start up is evil but at idle I can leave the subdivision without pissing off TOO many people. But at WOT, it sounds like Dale Earnhardt opening the gates of hell. 😂

To be honest i don't think i will void warranty most guys just return to stock tune b4 going to dealership, n no the steel driveshaft is actually VERY light the only ones that worry is 2wd 8 speed with 3.92 gears then you need a new driveshaft
Incredible Hemi thanks also ever since i installed the blackhawk cai from k&n i notice that when driving on the hiway doing 65 eventually itll feel like the truck bogs out (idle) like if you went up a gear so ill have to release the gas and regas inorder for (what it feels like extra air) the engine to readjust its idle. Could it be the cai or the tb spacer from air raid ? Heard its a waist of $..thoughts?
Ep1K0nE take that throttle body spacer and throw it right in trash 100% waste of money.. The k&n is a good intake I had one on my truck b4 making a custom track intake once u get a ported throttle body it.. The throttle response will be much better n gain some HP n tq as well

Whats your total timing on tune? I got jay greene tune for my truck, 87,89,91 tunes also has jba long tubes and catless y pipe, its a 6 speed with 3.55 4x4 crew only doing 14.7 at 97.5 according to my trinity, and timing is only 14.5 advance on 87 octane

You haven't dyno'd....??? how did you get it tuned then?? Part of the tuning process is being on the dyno... unless you are doing canned tunes from something like a Diablosport.

My dad just sold me his 2011 ram 1500 sport it has intake exhaust and an sct programmer that goes off of octane levels and the truck is stupid I've owned some pretty fast vehicles one being a cummins with a 64mm turbo and 175 hp injectors with a tuner and some other stuff and it will light the tires up in 6th gear at 90 and im looking to get about the same power or close to. This truck is pretty quick but I want a little more out of it. I dont want to go internal yet but what should be my next 2 mods and which one first?
A tune requires bigger injectors to handle the fuel delivery. And you’d get more power by removing the fan clutch then removing the cats. Cats have very very little restriction on the exhaust.
Tyler Awesome no... U do not need bigger injectors it's not forced induction and Catless is better than a clutch fan delete for theses trucks the stock cats are very restrictive
You do realize Hemi fever Jay Greene and player 3 performance all pull fuel isntead of adding more right? They adjust all the parameters so it's better on fuel aswell 😂 do you research man and yes cats are pretty restrictive actually 😂

I put a cool air kit and throttle body spacer,on my 2016 tradesman reg cab (8 speed) and it goes like a beast,could really feel it and I haven't even tuned it yet!
Why does the 6 speed get so much hate my truck has a 6 speed and I have no complaints I actually think it’s like buttery smooth I don’t get it do they not hold up or something
Incredible Hemi I was wondering cause I just bought a 2014 6 speed express and immediately had regrets thinking my tranny is gonna disintegrate at 70k it’s at 25 now I just daily it and tow my dads chevelle and my camaro to the track 2-3 times a summer like I did with my old truck as long as I’m not going drag racing in my truck I should be fine it seems
After researching the transmissions around, I've considered swapping in a 66RFE to my truck. It's basically 68RFE internals {strong for the diesel 4g trucks, and a true 6-speed ratio and operation wise} in a 65/545/45 RFE case. Since it's 'in the family' unlike a 4L80, and since it's a true 6-speed with a good final overdrive {{even on 4.56's and 31's I'll be cruising at like 66/67mph and 2000RPM}} it seems like a perfect match for my ideals. But IDK, I don't think it's ever been done before. Everone's concerned with the 4L80 {I couldn't stand wide ratios and a shallow SINGLE overdrive} and whatnot, and nobody's been able to do an 8-Speed swap, so WTF? Am I gonna end up the guinea pig? Guess we'll find out when I can cop 6 grand or whatever. Lol.

Christmas Gummyworm I gotcha I just don't know ANY rams that have a 2 step even with a cam... The 2 step is to build boost to launch... N all the cammed rams I know still launch best off idle and in my own experience it worked best for me

Regular cab short bed 2wd is the best choice for modding.
Did you have to get another O2 sensor when you took off your Cat?? I want to do it but don’t want to deal with the Check engine light.

96GMCSierra headers gears and stall with greene racing custom tune.. But since u said first 2 get gears n stall then custom tune n headerz

A tune requires bigger injectors to handle the fuel delivery. And you’d get more power by removing the fan clutch then removing the cats. Cats have very very little restriction on the exhaust.

You do realize Hemi fever Jay Greene and player 3 performance all pull fuel isntead of adding more right? They adjust all the parameters so it's better on fuel aswell 😂 do you research man and yes cats are pretty restrictive actually 😂

I put a cool air kit and throttle body spacer,on my 2016 tradesman reg cab (8 speed) and it goes like a beast,could really feel it and I haven't even tuned it yet!

After researching the transmissions around, I've considered swapping in a 66RFE to my truck. It's basically 68RFE internals {strong for the diesel 4g trucks, and a true 6-speed ratio and operation wise} in a 65/545/45 RFE case. Since it's 'in the family' unlike a 4L80, and since it's a true 6-speed with a good final overdrive {{even on 4.56's and 31's I'll be cruising at like 66/67mph and 2000RPM}} it seems like a perfect match for my ideals.
But IDK, I don't think it's ever been done before. Everone's concerned with the 4L80 {I couldn't stand wide ratios and a shallow SINGLE overdrive} and whatnot, and nobody's been able to do an 8-Speed swap, so WTF? Am I gonna end up the guinea pig? Guess we'll find out when I can cop 6 grand or whatever. Lol.
