- Welcome back!! In this video, I'll be unboxing and setting up our new (used) Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters Large House with Carport Gift Set!! It's a 99% complete set, with several extra items as well... so exciting!
We were so lucky to find a good deal on this set from seller japa_japan on USA eBay. I have tried to slow down on buying because we don't have enough space for the critters we already have, but I had some credit card points and this was a good deal... so I caved! But, I have no clue where it will go LOL!
This is one of the loveliest Calico Critter homes I think because of the beautifully detailed carport. The home itself is nice (especially the staircase and french doors, but the carport just steals the show!
The critters - as well as many items - definitely do have some aging. No breaks or damage per se, mainly just fading and sun damage. The home itself is pretty badly sun damaged, I couldn't tell from the listing photos but in good lighting it's pretty obvious. However, it's mostly pretty uniform, so I'm ok with it, and I MIGHT consider doing a paint job on the house down the road. For now, we'll just pretend the critters painted it yellow!

I’m so glad I found your channel so that I can live vicariously through you! My wife and I only recently started to collect Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters. I had a sizeable collection when I was a little boy back in the early ‘90s in the UK, but unfortunately I no longer have any of my old toys. I saw some for sale recently by chance and stopped dead in my tracks, totally flooded with nostalgia. I think being an immigrant (I live in Canada now) has made me extra nostalgic for things that remind me of my childhood. I hadn’t even realised that they’re called Calico Critters here in North America. My wife grew up in Bulgaria where I guess they didn’t have Sylvanians for sale, at least not back then, but she loves the Animal Crossing games which I think have some similarities, just in game format rather than toys. Anyway, she was immediately enamoured and we’ve even got her sister collecting them now, too! Unfortunately, because we live in a pretty small apartment in central Toronto, space is at too much of a premium for us to get any of the larger houses or other buildings. In the future if we have more space and maybe some kiddos to play with them, I would love for us to have a collection like yours! Thank you so much for making this content.
Wow thank you so much for sharing! I have met so many great people since making these videos. For me, my sister had the basic cottage back in 1985, and I played with it all the time. We didn’t have many toys at all, I used to make dollhouses out of shoeboxes, but I always loved miniatures. As I got older I started collecting dollhouse things, but it wasn’t until I had kids of my own and got them a Sylvanian cottage for Christmas that I remembered how much I loved them. I also was filled with nostalgia and longing! But because they are expensive, it took a while to be able to collect them, I just don’t buy handbags and lots of clothes like other women, instead I get toys lol! Once our youngest was moved out of her nursery, I took over that space for our collection. As far as not having enough space, that is a big problem for a lot of people, especially since so many of these sets are very bulky. And, they are very popular in Japan and South Korea, we are apartments are so tiny, a cruel irony!! Thanks again for your comment it made my day! ❤️
I bought a set with that car a few years ago, and the table is actually located at the front of the car where the license plate is! you pull it out and fold the legs down. Ik its a year later, but i think its still worth letting you know!
I think the hamster baby is from the Hamilton hamster family 🐹😍 I loved this video, it’s so exciting to unbox things and see what’s in there! Can’t wait to see you set this up ☺️

I was able to find the carport and home on eBay (from Deb Aragon- she’s had like six of them!) but I’ve never seen it as a gift set. That’s amazing! You’re very lucky.
I love this set - the kitchen and car and so on! At least the sun damage looks a bit like those old sandstone buildings, a bit weathered. That hamster baby must be an older set? It's quite unusual. I recently got the newer version of the car - minus the pieces and the inbuilt picnic table. I'm currently making double beds out of thin pieces of wood. Thanks for sharing, so fun!
Yes, I’m glad I didn’t notice it or I probably wouldn’t have done it, I bet that’s why it was really cheap. Its distributed pretty even but it’s distracting for me anyway, I might do a neutral paint job on it at some point. Oh, and I thought the picnic table was missing, a viewer pointed out it slides out of the car lol! 😆 Nice!
Oh and yes, I have not seen the hamster with the fire truck, it must be old or just from Japan, I might research it just so I know! And good luck with your beds, I hope you will share when done!

I'm Japanese so if you show any writings on the screen I can translate them for you in future videos! When I was in elementary school (in the 90's), I had a friend who was obsessed with Sylvanian Families and I owned some stuff (I believe it was one of the tree houses) so I recognize some of the sets you show on the channel. I had no idea that it was popular (or even sold) outside of Japan.

Lately I haven’t seen anything too exciting for me on Kobee, but I feel like I browse eBay almost every day just for the fun of it! Ohh, it’s the Carport House! I just discovered your channel recently and in one video you mentioned it. I thought you were saying “cardboard house” and I got confused because it didn’t look like any of the houses were made of cardboard😅

Thank you! One of the versions we got from Japan just included the swing and toys, no figures, plus it had some writing on the swing. Amazing how many variations there seem to be! 🤩❤️

Hahaha i have new top 3 too! My original top 3 was house on the hill, the purple manor and this, but since i got the first two already now my top 3 is the 35th anniv house, carport, and the courtyard ☺️

I dont own any of these but ive always loved them and wanted to get some but theres sooooo many sets idk what to get ... Id end up spending waay too much lol. Bc i want them all! But my daughter actually asked specifically for the "tiny animals with clothes" for her birthday this year she will be 6!!! And im searching hi and low for the best bang for my buck.. ... They really r so cute!! Im excited she asked for these but also scared lol its a never ending rabbit hole lol🤣
That’s awesome, and thanks for your comment! I would totally recommend getting the starter cottage, it comes with the little bunny and some furniture and for about $25 on Amazon, a really good bargain, and there are a couple family sets you can find under $20 to start out. From there, I would just get what you are drawn to, the ones you like the most, and scout out the best prices, or just have fun on Amazon or eBay looking at what’s out there. Sometimes I’m amazed at the deals I come across! ❤️👍😊
What other toys can fit calico critters players?
Thanks for watching! Li'l Woodzeez are a perfect fit and have similar looking dolls (but chubbier - the clothes can't be swapped with Calico Critters), and are lower cost too in the USA. Santomile puts out Calico Critter "look-alike" dolls and furniture at very low prices, I haven't purchased any but the reviews are decent (try Walmart and Amazon). Also, there's a brand new line called Honey Bee Acres at Walmart, with really cool/creative sets with bunnies and other figures, same size/style as Calico Critters; I'm considering getting the Honey Bee VW-Style van, it's adorable! There are others too that will work well; I've heard Playmobile has a similar scale, and many regular 1:12 dollhouse items will fit with Calico Critters, such as food accessories. ❤️

It actually wasn’t so bad, probably with the sun damage they marked it down, but I didn’t notice the sun damage until I got it home. It was around $100 maybe $110. I am in the USA. I usually have to look through a LOT of listings before spotting a bargain, but to me that’s a lot of fun even if I don’t buy anything haha!! In fact I browse eBay almost every day, but it is rare when I actually buy, maybe once or twice a month. 😊👍

Sorry for my very late reply! It was about $90 I think, including shipping from Japan. I think it was a good deal for everything that came with it, although it’s not in as great of shape as I thought it was. I didn’t realize the color was so faded.
