  • Welcome back to Critterland! Today I'm unboxing the... (drumroll)... Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters SYLVANIAN KITCHEN restaurant!!
    This is an exquisite Calico Critter restaurant from 2005, released only in Japan I believe. It's modeled after an actual restaurant in Japan, which I think is now closed. But in its heyday they used to sell exclusive figures and sets at the restaurant, and have guest Sylvanian appearances! There's also a Sylvanian Families amusement park in Japan which can still be visited today, with life-size Calico Critter buildings. But I digress!
    I've wanted this restaurant FOR-ever. But I had trouble finding it for an affordable price, in good condition, and complete. But several months ago I hit the jackpot with this listing, and I'm so excited to show it off.
    In addition to the restaurant, this haul also came with a few families (one of which was in pretty bad condition) and a slew of ultra-vintage furniture pieces. It also came with a few super old catalogs, which I really enjoyed flipping through.
    Many of the items in the order I already had, but I'm happy to have duplicates. Most of the items were in good shape, but several pieces (and accessories and critters) were not... overall, though, I'm very happy with the purchase.
    Let me know what you think, and if you have any of the sets shown here or in those vintage catalogs!
    Thanks for watching, see you next time...

    Always had a soft spot for the Sylvanian costumes. They're so precious. The nurse uniform, the chef clothes. Precious, precious

    I really enjoyed seeing the Sylvanian Kitchen up close, I don't think I've ever seen it complete and in such detail.
    I also don't mind having duplicate figures, we play more with some figures and keep others.
    From the catalogs I have some Misty Forest sets and some green furniture!
    I love the extra accessories that came with your Sylvanian Kitchen.
    Thank you for showing us❤!

    I didn’t check the other comments, but the stairs come separately (and is also costly by itself lol).
    The Sylvanian Kitchen was my first “vintage” building when I first started collecting. I love it so much! ♥️

    Very cute video!
    I've seen people reverse sun damage on vintage Polly Pocket compacts and computers by using hydrogen peroxide cream and a UV lamp like you mentioned, RetroGeek Crafts has a video showing the method and it had amazing results.
    I could imagine the compacts are made of the same plastic as on the egg stroller, so it's worth a try I think.

    Truly one of my favorite buildings! I have the stairs that are made to match the kitchen. Same exact mold as the stairs for the vintage bakery. And like Peachy commented, the forest cake shop with magenta roof stacks perfectly on top. The whole complex is actually in my current diorama I’ll be posting sometime this month. The ice creams are from a waitress accessory set that came with the green waitress dress (no figure). Great you got more vintage furniture, and having doubles should come in handy. You can still make the most of the critters in poor condition and transform them. Enjoy!

      Thank you! I figured the uniform came off the critter in the chef/waitress duo, but how cool it was part of a Sylvanian Kitchen accessory set. I love the ice creams, they’re so detailed! 🍨

    Great video! Another awesome lot you got there with so many fun pieces! Shame some of the pieces and figures weren't in the best condition, but they are not the worst by far!
    On the stairs, they were sold as a seperare item (also exclusive to the real life resturant) and a cake shop as well which I believe was stackable on top. I've never seen the stairs in real life, only infrequently on mercari Japan, they seem quite hard to come by. Looking at them I'm 90% sure they are the same mold as the vintage bakery stairs.
    On the ice creams, you're right they look like the ones that come with the Applewood/Bramble department store though slightly different colours on some of them. With the Sylvanian Kitchen range they also did accessory sets, so food sets and you could buy the chef and waitress uniforms separately and they came with accessories too. I'm 99% sure the ice creams and glassware are from the waitress uniform and accessory set! 😊

    • @AdventuresinCritterland
      @AdventuresinCritterland  Год назад +1

      Thank you!! Yes they do look like the same stair mold as the bakery, and I never knew they existed until seeing this box! Very cool. And also very cool that the ice creams may be a Sylvanian Kitchen accessory pack, I love that! I’ll have to keep an eye out for the others although I’m sure they wouldn’t be cheap. Thanks again! ❤️

    What a fabulous piece to have! I know that the forest kitchen had a waitress set that I believe came with similar dessert items, so your extras might come from that! The Forest kitchen also had accessory packs, small ltems available to buy that made up dishes on the menu!

    I love this set! You said in another video that you scan paper items from new sets. Could you do the same with these older paper pieces like the one page catalogs and the little place mats? It’s rare for these to survive in older sets like this and other collectors would love to see them. The red/orange table and chairs and sideboard in the catalog you showed at about 4:32 min in are pretty rare. I’ve been looking at the Japanese auctions for weeks now and they rarely come up. When I first saw them I thought they were maple town or teddy bear story. Your catalog is the first printed material I’ve seen confirming they are Sylvanian! Love your videos, so glad you are posting again!

      Btw, I’ve had good luck with putting the clothes in a garment bag and washing them on a gentle cycle. I’ve even done that with the ones I’ve had since I was a kid in 80s. Most came out pretty good but really set in stains may be permanent.

    • @AdventuresinCritterland
      @AdventuresinCritterland  Год назад +1

      That’s a great idea- I can scan them and maybe upload them the Sylvanian Fandom, or lmk if you know of another good method. I’ve done a PDF link before but I don’t think a lot of people found it.

    • @ericfutral2651
      @ericfutral2651 Год назад +1

      I didn’t know about the pdf link. Details on that would be great. I keep forgetting about the fandom page but that would be a good place too. Btw, I just saw the stairs with brown railings in 2 different yahoo auction listings. One of them showed it had its own separate box so I dont think it was bundled with like a “gift set” of the restaurant. I thought it was simply something the people who photographed the catalogs repainted but 2 different listings and a color printed box seems to suggest it was mass produced but maybe not that popular at the time.

      @@ericfutral2651 The other pdf was for little Grand Hotel paper accessories, it’s on the video “DIY hotel accessories” as well as the grand hotel tour I think, in 2 colors. I’ll try to get the catalogs up soon, I’ll do another PDF link and post it in this video’s description, and let you know when it’s up, it’ll probably be a few days though (my scanner is at the office).
      And that’s really interesting on the stairs, I would love to find one, they’re awesome in that color! Thanks :-)

    Oh lordt when you dunked the chipmunk in water I nearly died. I’ve always heard never to get them wet because it could loosen the adhesive. What’s dog soap? The mini foods and glassware (omg those ice creams) are my favorite parts of this order! You are so lucky.

    Such a fun set. Yes, too bad some critters and pieces weren't perfect, but switching the boys and girls is exactly what I would have done. I've heard that about the sun damage and it does work. I keep my Polly Pocket Super Set houses and compacts in a bookcase to avoid sun damage as well and so far so good, but the critter houses will be too big, I've seen melt mark repair with fine sandpaper and Plastx polisher. Toy Tinker Tim has a video. That chair has pretty extensive damage sadly.

    I understand the concern about sun damage. I display my items a bit at a time and then put them away and put new items out. I have a spare pink bedroom I use for this purpose. I didn't realize that when the sun set it shined right through the window. I keep my blinds 3/4 of the way down so I don't get damage. My husband thinks I'm crazy!

    • @AdventuresinCritterland
      @AdventuresinCritterland  Год назад +1

      Yes! It can happen so easily, I worry about it all the time. I got a special room darkening curtain that I always leave closed- if a little sun is peaking through the edges I meticulously fix it. And I still worry sun gets through, and am careful what I put near the window! Sun damage is the worst and you see it on a LOT of used sets!
