Rock was/is more of a showman than Steve, which is what made the WM18 match so good. Rock had the patience to play the part up to the cartoonish level that Hulk's old days were at, which is why the nostalgia pop was so appreciated in this match. Hulk and Steve would have been the two icons of the business at that time but they could not have possibly put together something as entertaining as what Rock and Hulk did.

Maybe even leaving when left and instead of Rocky turning against the whole Nation he and Big E. could bounce and Big E. could be to him what Diesel/Kevin Nash was to Shawn Michaels and then go on to bigger and better.
What about Finn Balor/The Demon??? I think with better coaching and better writing that could be a great character. Kind of like how Mick Foley would use Cactus Jack when he needed to, Finn could do a better job of using the Demon when he met darker or more formidable opponents. WWE/F could have it to where Finn was an impressive upper mid to lower high carder with a decent record but, as the Demon he would develop an impressive when streak that wasn't even acknowledged until shortly before the Finn/Taker feud would even happen. As the Demon he would never cut promos. He would have a very different, more aggressive and even dirty move set and finisher. They could even stretch it to where if enough of the paint wore off and Finn noticed it his moves wouldn't connect as much and he'd be in danger of almost losing. And just when Taker figures this out plans to "beat the paint" off of him, The demon emerges with a new Kane like suit/Fiend like mask that stays on and they duke it out until the Demon hits his finisher and ends the streak.

While there have been good matches since I dont think any have reached this level again. And that's the bad thing about it your always looking at what was. Its like world of sport in UK in the 80s the Crabtree- haystack feud was everywhere and everyone fan or not knew there names. But once it was done and dusted there was nothing left that fans thought might match it and without a billionaires clout to keep it running in that downtime it was a dead brand within a few yrs.

If it was me in charge. I’d have gone with showman vs showman. Blood and guts vs blood and guts.
    Hogan vs rock
    Austin vs flair.
I’d have made rock vs hogan what it was. But flair vs Austin because of the substantial age difference it would have been Austin on offence 98% of the time, with flair cheating when the ref isn’t looking getting a couple things in but because of the difference in age Austin finds his way back on top only for flair to cheat again. My finish would have been flair decides that he needs to go big and puts on the brass knuckles he’s hidden from the ref. Throws a massive punch, Austin ducks gut kick, stunner 1,2,3 and out. Austin leaves showing he’s the big dog and he can take anyone. Flair leaves having shown he’s wily and smart and can bridge the gap that there is physically and is still capable of going with the top guys.

Rock and Hogan were the right match-up. They had great chemistry the way that Austin and Hart had. Its all about match-ups. Some guys match up better than others. Say whatever you want about Hulk. But when he came through, he came through BIG. When you look at the Andre, Warrior, and Rock matches. The crowd is just completely engulfed. And he had the same effect as a heel in big-time matches. Such as his Nitro matches with Luger and Goldberg. The crowd effect is just insane. It feels like the literal fate of the world is at stake based on what happens. This is why Hogan is one of the GOATS. He tapped into emotion in a way unrivaled by most.

I mean, technical skills aside, wrestling is a business. So, at the end of the day, it's only about making happy fans, and getting them back in the seats consistently (and bringing friends!) and making money. And The Ultimate Warrior drew like nobody else in just a 3 year rise to the top.
Even Hogan had to work with jobbers for years and was in and out of the WWF before Vince finally knew how to give him a proper push - which worked.
But, even on ring skills, I may be in the minority here, but I think The Ultimate Warrior was good. A little hard to work with with how stiff he'd be on everybody else - but it looked real and it looked fierce. And the whole persona and quick matches were really cool.
His failed run in WCW was mostly due to dumb writers and him not fitting in with the more edgy, realistic storylines that had taken over by that time. Had Warrior been with WCW from the beginning/practiced more rasslin & japanese style wrestling, he could have been great as well.
He's not a John Cena 5 move special. He could hold a match on his own. Nowhere near Hart family level, but he really put on a show, sold merch, and drew fans. And, at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
Wrestling needs people like The Ultimate Warrior so the great technical wrestlers can make a decent living for themselves and their families.
