How on Earth was she a genius ? She came back the second time and was made a joke of. They made her do everything she quit the first time over. Lesbian angle ? This is why Vince doesn't let anyone get over anymore. The problems with Sable, Austin walking out, HBK throwing his fits, Bret not dropping the title, Rock leaving for Hollywood right when Vince was relying on him to lead the company since Austin was gone, etc etc. Vince will never let anyone get over ever again.

You can't blame these guys..they can make as much or more money on a movie set for 2-4 weeks or more than on the road for months and giving your body a utter pounding..not rocket science that popular wrestlers who have acting talent would move on before injuries or age crepts in.That's just good business decisions for the wrestlers.

Wasn’t a Sable fan, but suspect that she should have got more money. I like wrestling for wrestling, Sable didn’t really wrestle and I just got the feeling that she had the attitude of a teenager working at McDonalds, she didn’t really want to be there and felt that she was too good for the place. The attitude era didn’t focus on the wrestling, so this gave Sable’s argument more credibility, so personal feelings aside, I think she should have got more money.

I’m assuming the lawsuit didn’t work out in her favor, outside of a few minor roles/appearances the Hollywood career didn’t pan out, etc., why else would she initiate a possible return especially with how she left?
I’ve wondered about how others thought of her return too. The women still there (Terri, Jackie, Ivory) from when she 1st left were on Raw, she returned to Smackdown. General consensus though seemed to be she was a different person (in a good way) than her 1st run.

Comparatively it isn't when you think of the long play. She was 32 years old in 1999. And they're saying she made in the neighborhood of $750K in WWF.
Is $850K a ton of money? Absolutely. But it's stepping over dollars to grab nickels if you consider that you gave up close to that a year for a one off thing. And $850K is not going to change your life forever when you're 32. It could if you immediately invested it and made returns to live on maybe. But in the scale of living another 50 years that money isn't making you rich.

So a company is compelled to continuously defend against this.

I've always heard the term "drew money" when old schoolers discuss payoffs but I have yet heard clearly how it is determined who drew money on a pay per view or house show with a studded card. If Flair fought Dusty in the main event, but also on the card Road Warriors fought Tully n Arn and the Rock n Roll took on the Midnight, all top stars, all top talents, so who drew the money on this card? If Sable, hot off of her playboy spread, helped make that pay per view get high rate buys more than it would've been without her, then she deserved as much as Austin or anyone else for the payoff for that show.

If you owm the likeness for several individuals within the same company and allow one to use their own likeness without consent or compensation you are setting a precedence that would likely allow the next person to do the same or at absolute minimum a long, drawn out, expensive court battle which could cost millions even if you were to win. On top of that!..when a company has rules written down and signed by everyone they employ and they allow one person to break the rule without punishment of any kind but punish the next employee who does the exact same thing they have just discriminated against the 2nd employee. For example if a company has q written policy that they do not hire anyone with a felony conviction within the last 7 years and they deny one or multiple people for that reason and then decide to hire someone who does have a felony because they really really like them, they have just discriminated against everyone they turned away and if those individuals find out get ready because there's going to be a lawsuit and you need to try and settle because you're going to lose. When Sable decided to pull that stuff I guarantee Vinces attorney didn't even give him the option, he told him immediately that they're going to court.
I have been around these things at work extensively in my prior career which involved hiring well over 500 people a year.

She wasn't bringing in revenue like she thought she was. Go ask random people if they know who Stone Cold is. Then, ask them if they know who Sable is. And then, you might understand that NOBODY bought PPVs to see Sable.
Idk how people don't remember or understand that Stone Cold was THE draw back then. He outdid everything Hogan did in the 80's. Austin is the biggest draw of all-time. He is still so unbelievably famous for wrestling in the 90's and early 00's. Go listen to the pop of the crowd every time that glass shattered. It's unlike anything that has ever been done still to this day. Get this: Austin was so over and such a massive draw that they tried so hard to turn him heel and they simply couldn't. Nobody wanted to boo Stone Cold. That had never happened before, and it has never happened since. And yeah, Austin also did a shit ton more actual work. Have a look at the time he would be on camera. Have a look at how the entire show was focused on him. You have no idea how many house shows Austin had to wrestle at. Sable was not doing anywhere close to an equal amount of work. Nobody really gave a shit about her little segments or her little pathetic "matches". She was not a draw. If she was such a draw, then how did the highest Wrestlemania buy rate of all-time happen without her on the show? Oh, that's right. Rock and Austin in their prime in the main event. And the WWF roster being at its all-time best, having just picked up incredible in-ring talent from WCW over the past year at the time. And the build up + the booking was great. And Sable had nothing to do with any of it.

Well, I maybe in the minority here, but I absolutely loved Sable; she's still in my top 3-5 of all-time.
I think the most poignant thing JR mentioned here is that she simply "outgrew her role", much like Chyna did as well, and, during those times, unfortunately, the wrestling business/WWF wasn't prepared for having a woman being that huge, and that over, even though they created it themselves. I don't blame Rena one bit, or any wrestler for that matter, for wanting a bigger piece of the pie in terms of intellectual property, likeness & their name, etc. They're the ones actually doing most of the actual work to get those characters over. If they're that over, it's part & parcel to the individual portraying that character being that good at what they do, and not just only because the company is promoting the shit out of it.
She was the champion. She carried it well for what she did, and should've been getting paid top champion money, like Austin, cuz she was considered the top woman in the company, but she wasn't, because she was female. Period. That's just the way it worked then, and I get it, but it still doesn't make it right. Sable, Chyna, Lita & Trish were all actually the biggest draws to WWF during their times, save for The Rock being way more over, and actually a bigger draw, than Austin ever actually was. Why shouldn't they paid like the top person in the company? ...Why should they even have to ask for it, let alone litigate for it?

JR: The point though - thats FAIR!
SABLE: Look! I made a system to empirically represent the value each wrestler brings to the company. You can cross reference matches with buy rates and Nielsen ratings and advertiser info.

Sable: So I think 140 million would leave 260 for the growth of the business and we both leave happy.
    JR: NOT fair!
Sable: *pulls out paycheck* look Jr I made this company 400 million and in return I was paid, uhh the hotels free bottle of handlotion, 3 subway tokens, a 3 way offer from goldust, Mick Foley's tooth a love poem from Shawn Michaels, triple H and a really sappy one from undertaker.
Oh here it is! 10,000$ and 72 very artistic val venis dick picks.
    Jr: *chef's kiss* FAIR!
*CHYNA busts through the door* what the hell JR! I bring in as much as stone cold plus I'm rarely injured and you gave me HALF as much as Sable?
Jr That's Fair *nods all knowingly.* Fair.
Chyna and Sable: HOW THE HELL IS THIS FAIR?
Vince on a rocket propelled roller chair blasts through the wall, he spazzes in his chair face beet red eyes wide with lust and growl screams: "PUPPIES!"

My suggested videos is dated. She wanted to live in blue state so the salary and exclusivity hampered her ambitions sounds like. Women have small, early window to earn and I remember her looking older compared to Wilson, Stratus, so when they lock up talent, the scale is not uniform. They need financial advisors and options to work outside company.

I don't always agree with Jim Cornette, but I agree with every word he has said about Sable. No talent and if we're just talking looks? Sorry, Sunny (in her prime), Missy Hyatt, Kimberly Page, Elizabeth and Stacy Kiebler were far more attractive.
