Austin should have still been heel and the champion going into WrestleMania X8. He was the biggest draw all of 2001, and there was no reason to turn him face and immediately take the title off him in December. I understand they wanted to push Jericho in order to put over Triple H, but Austin already had history with Triple H dating back to the Two-Man Power Trip. It was a ready-made program, and it would have been a hell of a lot better than the “Lucy” angle they did with Stephanie. Imagine Austin vs Triple H for the title, Rock vs Hogan and Jericho vs Angle at WrestleMania X8. Infinitely better.

@@jamalwalker04 Turning Austin face had nothing to do with Rock leaving. It was done because Austin had seen how much his merchandise sales had gone down and he was not happy about it. Yeah they should have stayed with Austin as a heel all the way to Mania 18. I match up between Austin vs Triple h in the main event would have been epic
The reason why Scott was found in rough shape the day of wrestle mania is apparently the day before Vince called Scott and he was suppose to go over Austin but then changed at the last minute. Scott then said what was the point and up until that point he stayed clean. He said this in an interview
I thought the Austin/Hall match was pretty good and so was the build up to it. People sometimes forget just how stacked that Wrestlemania was. Aside from Austin/Hall, you had three other main event caliber matches. You had Flair/Undertaker, HHH/Jericho, and Rock/Hogan. I think they did as good of a job as could be expected, and Hall pulled his weight in that match.
They jobbed Hall the entire angle. All Austin did was bitch about losing to anybody once he made it. You can argue about Hall being a drunk n should lose, fine. But christ, did austin whine about any fucking potential loss, with very little exception. And even the 1 loss to rock, only because he had the winning mania record against him. The level of hubris on the guy. At least now he kind of admits it, in a round about way these days.

Crowd was hot for this match. Not hotter than The Rock vs Hogan, but the fans were invested. Especially for the sell job Hall did with the Stunner. The problem was they didn't build Austin vs Hall in a way, like The Rock vs Hogan. I enjoyed the match though.
Plus Nash had that tag team match NWO vs Austin and Rock, and the next week had a one on one match on Smackdown with The Rock, so he was healthy enough to have faced Austin one on one.
Stone Cold should have been the first Undisputed Champion not Jericho. It should of been Austin vs Triple H at Mania 18 not Jericho. Right after Jericho lost to Triple H he went right back to the mid card where he was before. They wasted the First Ever Undisputed title on him. Austin was right about the creative after 2001 everything sucked until like 2003 to me. I still remember watching the WWF turn into the WWE and how horrible the booking was during that time period. To me the start of the Ruthless Aggression Era didn’t start until after 2002 but the Attitude Era ended when WCW went out of business so you kind of had a period of time where the WWF didn’t know what direction it wanted to go into so they did the Alliance storyline for 8 months after that Flair and McMahon were Co Owners. To me WWE didn’t start getting good again until 2003. Unfortunately they ran off Austin by constantly mishandling his booking he never should of been in a feud with Scott Hall and should’ve been the first Undisputed Champion like I said Austin’s character in the late 90’s saved the WWF from bankruptcy the antihero gimmick McMahon vs Austin feud saved that company and how did WWF repay that after all that Austin did they ran him out of the company with stupid heel turns and bad books and pointless feuds.
Lol mishandled his booking? He never wanted to lose. Vince was right scott hall SHOULD have won that match. Austin totally buried the NWO by making them lose the year they returned.
I remember that Bischoff said Austin would be a mid card player if he was in the star pool of WCW during the Monday night wars and that kind of happened when everyone from WCW came over. Hogan vs Rock was by far the main event of this show.
@@maxmeza4859 That was the first name I thought of, obviously there’s other ppl he could’ve had a better a match with. I’m sure they did but that would’ve been miles better than that forced Austin vs Hall match.
It should of been ric flair tbh, the person Austin calls the GOAT & who he would of had great chemistry with. I know Flair and Taker wanted to work but they honestly could of just did it the year after. Takers handicap match at 19 was terrible and that would of fixed a lot imo
I love that JR can still have that mind set for the talent today it is great. The issue of two years in a row forgetting what to do with 3 of your 4 corner stones talents I feel rests with the company and crew thinking we can do no wrong. When in 01 you forgot about taker and H, then in 02 you forget about austin. That is a case of not knowing the forest from the trees. You guys notice 03, 04, 05, hell 06 you didn't have a problem of not knowing who your tippy top talent was working with.
It amazes me how people quote Dave Meltzer with such confidence & certainty!! They act like what he “reports” is the gospel truth & can’t be wrong!! Ole Dave is wrong on what he “reports” almost as much as he’s right!! My favorite thing about him & what catches my attention every time, is when he reports something that turns out to be completely wrong, he never admits it!! He blames someone else by saying that the plan changed, or someone changed their mind. On occasion Ole Dave will even double down & try to claim that what he “reported” was 100% accurate & is still going to happen, but it was postponed or put off for another time!! You just about have to be a mark if you give him your money!! Unfortunately these days there are more marks employed by the promotions than there are interested in the product!!
'...but *somehow* Stone Cold changes his mind a few days later and takes the Stunner from Hall.' Yes, def. sounds like something Bischoff woulda had an aneurysm at after Meltzer quoting 'the boys' taking a stand against an NWO run, only to 'somehow' do the job a few days later. Be interesting to hear SCSA's memories of that NWO angle leading up to that WM.
I disagree with JR losses do matter unless you're a made man. The stuff that they do now where you lose every match for two months then get a title shot does not build credibility.
@Cody Gatzke It depends how it happens. Getting a dirty win over Stone Cold is still a dirty win. Beating him clean is a whole different story and clearly shouldn't have happened. Hall and the NWO screwing Austin and building to a payoff would have been fine, IMO.
The best way to get over by losing is utilized in the King's Road style in Japan where the loser takes the winner to his limits so you're lead to believe it could have went either way and then at a later date the rematch happens and the loser of the last match has evolved to the point where he can finally overcome the previous opponent and both of them still look strong and if the fans and writing stays good you can milk it for a bit
I think the biggest example of the loser of the match going over would be HIAC '98 Taker/Mankind. Taker wins the match fairly dominantly, but Mankind makes his whole career via his performance in that one match.
If only this was the Hall of a few years earlier, none the less I think this was more about Austin then Hall's issues outside the ring. He could still go when the bell rang and of the three I'd say he was still probably the best of the workers but on name value,to Austin, it looks like he's getting the lesser of this big three and losing.
Hall was drunk on Wrestlemania weekend and threw a fit after he found out he was losing that night. Austin should have been booked better. Edge had a higher match on the card that night! Unforgivable.
lol i should have specified. I'm talking about the two other unnamed matches he references towards the end of the vid. As for the wrestlemania match. I get the complaint. Should of been in a better position or at least had someone sober to work with.. It is kinda funny. It might be no coincidence that the main event is not the match most people remember from that mania. I'm sure Austin inserted into that HHH vs Jericho match would have been a better match for him and the event. But would it have topped that Rock vs Hogan match in front of that crowd? Idk.
Razor Ramon was always a favorite. Not for the gimmick but for the bad guy attitude Scott Hall naturally had. His ladder match vs HBK was always a favorite. If he had straighten up, I feel his match with Austin would've been another great one.
It should have been Stone Cold vs The Rock vs Hulk Hogan triple threat match in the Main Event at Wrestlemania 18. The 3 biggest stars in the company going at it on WWF biggest stage of them all
Stone Cold was never taking any match with Hogan. He didn't need the money, there was no way he was putting Hogan over and you can't charge the finsh on a match that's never on a card.
They should have done the whole thing the same way but not turn Hogan face and kept the nwo together. Blowing the thing up after a few weeks of historically great heat is what knocked scott off the wagon. You build that shit and you run with it. A heel Hogan getting cheered is such a dominating figure they could have put him against Austin at summerslam and done a bigger number than wrestlemania.
Uh no, mark. The “kid” makes a good point. Fucking Toronto cheers Hogan and they put him back in the red n yellow right away, thats tired, lazy shit. Keep Hogan heel whether they cheer or not makes it waaay more compelling.
@@thekinginthenorth3650 Uh yes, smark. Your boyfriend made a stupid point. WWF fans wanted the Red and Yellow, not the Black and White. People wanted classic Hogan. And what makes you think Hogan staying heel magically wouldve made him and Austin want to work with each other?
Scott Hall was such a great performer he could've had many more great matches if not for his substance abuse issues. Jim said no one text him to ask how he was doing except Scott crazy how he says how close he is with Austin and never really hear from him
Ironic a guy who is famous for drinking beer in the ring doesnt like someone showing up hungover! Austin just threw a hissy fit because Hogan and others were back in town.
Am I the only one who remembers Austin tying up Hall to a chair and POURING BEER on him? And how not long afterwards Hall had to leave again due to a relapse? Yeah, Austin "worked" with hall.... then fucked him over. NOT just in the ring either. Doing that to a man with a known history of substance issues turned me off to Austin.
Yeah exactly, Hall was taking Antabuse, he had full custody of his kids at the time too. WWF didn’t keep their word on dates either. They changed outcomes. WWE screwed most of old WCW guys and tbh this was just another example. Although Halls destructive behaviour smoothed it over more.
Everyone to a degree is a backstage politician. They have to defend themselves and push their view points. It's only if you're an azzhole about it like Hogan, Warrior, The Kliq or others.
Disclaimer : Hall got clean in his remaining years before he passed and imo fully replenished his reputation. One of the best workers who never got a shot at a world title which is bs imo
Scott Hall vs Sting WCW Uncensored 98'. For the world title. Scott Hall won World War 3 97' and got a guaranteed title shot. It was supposed to be at Superbrawl 98' but the title situation was still held up between Sting and Hogan and it got settled at Superbrawl. Hall's title shot was delayed until Uncensored where he was defeated by Sting.
I had the pleasure of knowing Scott Hall during this time. He was in Golds gym Winter Park Florida. I know he had his demons but man what a nice guy when sober. I was a big SCSA fan and he said Steve was not in a good place at that time as well. May Scott rest in peace!!
Bret was a genius to add color at the end. He even told Austin he'd take the blame. Bret had a lot of great behind the scenes ideas. He should of been Pat Patersons succesor behind the scenes. Not only was Bret great at having realistic matches that made you feel it was a fight, but also had the innovative mind to agent and book matches. Currently, WWE doesn't have anybody like a Patterson or Bret to come up with ideas; instead they hire people that literally don't know a damn thing about wrestling and it shows because the WWE product is disgustingly bad. As a fan of wrestling I am absolutely ashamed and embarrassed by the current state of wrestling and am no longer a fan now. I'll always be a fan of past days, but will not support wrestling anymore in its current state. Pisses me off... it's like WWE is trying to sabotage itself just to appease it's stock
It would have been cool if Austin beat Jericho at No Way Out and went to face Triple H at Mania. They could have brought back Nash and Hall at that mania with them helping Triple H win the title off of Austin
Or to play, "fantasy booker" Triple H turns 'heel again, & forms up with the NWO. It would be "Vince McMahon & Hunter's Master Plan" secretly speaking to bring the New World Order to WWF so Vince could "kill it!" as he blurted out on Smackdown. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan gets kicked out, after doing the double-turn with "The Rock" at 'Mania X8, & teams up with Austin to take on the NWO, sans "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. By the way no plain yellow & red have it the hybrid of what was back in 2002 if anybody else remembers besides me.
Trips vs Austin at Mania sounds nice but 2002 was Trips bog comeback year, he returned as a babyface, he had to get clean victories man and beating Austin clean....hmmm thats kinda difficult
2 big examples of guys " getting over " when they lose. When Bret Hart lost vs. British Bulldog for International belt. Bret had a phenomenal match and was more popular than ever and established him a as great singles wrestler. 2nd example when Stone Cold lost vs. Bret Hart and Stone Cold lost but gave such a great match and the way he went toe to toe with the Top guy and how he had to pass out to lose and he wouldn't tap showed how bad ass of a dude he really was.
@Donal Finn you know Bret Hart beat Steve Austin the year prior at SummerSlam by 100% clean pinfall. Austin's popularity was still jus in the very beginnings at that time I mean he lost to Savio Vega ( no disrespect to Savio Vega who had a great career and should be in the HOF as one of the great " workers" in wrestling ) in a Caribbean Strap Match for God sakes in that same year so Austin was NOT OVER yet . It was the Bret Hart feud/storyline and that eventually Wrestlemania 13 match that was the final Push and got Austin over. STONE COLD says it himself for God's sake. Right out the horses mouth. So if Stone Cold Literally says on his Podcast that it was the Bret Hart feud and the WM 13 match that got him OVER, it makes EVERYTHING you just said in the top false statements that are not Fact but your opinion. Next time start it off with " in my opinion etc.etc. " I will hear u out, but when U come out blazing " rah rah rah rah Austin was already over rah rah rah " thats just 100% wrong. Ill take Steve Austin's word over your's any day.
I sincerely think putting the belt on Jericho before WM was a bad idea. As great as Jericho is, he is not in the same league as Austin, Rock, Taker, Angle or even Triple H and Benoit from that era. The WM should have had Rock vs Hogan for wcw title and Triple H vs Austin for the Wwe title with Triple h turning heel and joining the nwo at the end of the night!
Interesting hmm 🤔, everyone always talks about how Austin vs. Rock had 3 main event matches at Wrestlemania. 15, 17, 19, however it just occurred to me so did Triple H vs.Undertaker 17, 27, 28 but nobody ever talks about that. Now you can say yeah but Austin vs. Rock main evented 3. But they didn’t, 19 was Brock vs Angle.
You proved yourself both right and wrong austin and rock did main event 2 mainias your right about that but hhh and taker have never main evented any wrestlemanias
Story goes that Hall and the nWo heard about the switch to Austin going over like a day before, which is why Scott went and got drunk. He was pissed off and relapsed. Also it's pretty incredible what a prima donna Austin was during this period in time. It seems like it's just what happens to top guys. It all goes to their head and then it becomes a "I'm taking my ball and going home" when things don't go their way. Hogan just got it built into his contract Also really funny no one is talking about how well Scott actually performed in the match. There's just focus on "He was drunk the day before, fuck him anyways." with no acknowledgement of his actual talent, which is pretty bullshit. Especially with the (possibly true) revelation that Scott found out he wasn't going over anymore (I guess all these ulterior factors of JR being pissy about it, and Steve being pissy about it, and probably other guys in the back being pissy about it because everyone is a huge diva in wrestling) at the very last second.
They also worked Hall to death before Mania. His contract was for 10 days a month but he ended working the house shows in the lead up to Manis. So Hall busted his ass for a month only to get jobbed out to Austin when all along they told Hall he was going over.
It should of been stone cold vs hhh. Imagine they done that by coincidence, Hogan turned to face, triple h turned back into heel as nwo leader. Evolved it to the kliq. Jesus that would of been money. Especially Michael's returning. Shame how it all played out with nwo..
Does anyone know why Austin faced Scott Hall instead of Kevin Nash, I feel like it would have been a better match since Austin and Kevin are good friends
I genuinely enjoyed this match Watching this as a fan back in the day I was all into i mean ffs its Scott Hall vs Stone Cold!!! my friends and I still quote the promo to this match lol
I respect the hell out of Austin but some of this is annoying. He was the principal reason for the Attitude Era and the company going public but it doesn't mean he has to main event all the shows no matter what especially if there are other credible guys. Someone else may have a hotter story than he does. This doesn't mean he should be booked badly but he should be booked as a main eventer always. As for Mania 18, I actually see sense in Hall going over. Because we want a strong NWO. However, with his condition and Hogan's face turn the NWO was just doomed. But Hall going over Austin with shenanigans isn't out of this world and Austin should have realised that especially when he refused to work with Hogan. Because as great as Austin is he can't always be on the title picture 24/7. We also have to build other people up.
The level of popularity with Austin at wrestlemania went like this. After he wrestled Bret Harte he was getting really popular. Then when he beat Shawn Michaels he was humongous and Mike Tyson being a part of that angle was huge. Then when he beat the rock that was also really good. Then he wasn’t even a part of wrestlemania in 2000. By 2001 he was still pretty hot actually, then when he battled Scott Hall it was kind of strange because his popularity was dying down a little. Then by 2003 Austin made the right decision to focus more on film and TV shows and just do cameo appearances like Shawn Michaels was doing before. I felt their angle was kind of corny eight points. Austin really should’ve feuded with Goldberg!
The match wasn't built into what it should have been but even so I feel Hall should have gone over here. What's a loss to Austin at that point? Nothing really, but it establishes Hall back in WWE as a top guy. I always felt this was a bit selfish of Austin.
Hall would later get fired after this match so you can see there was other stuff going on behind the scenes, but if they weren’t I totally agree with you
Back in the day, I thought that Austin changed the ending during the match. The match has a flat finish where Steve Austin kicks out of a pin and hits Scott Hall with two Stunners. Hall didn't sell the first one. I thought Austin had gone into business for himself and Hall was legitimately surprised to be hit with the move.
You'd go with Nash over Hall to face Austin? That match would have sucked worse than the match we got. Hall is a way better worker compared to Nash, not even close.
@@butchvito Perhaps, but at least Austin might have actually been into a match with Nash and would have worked to make it better. I think Hall-Austin could have been much better if Austin was commited to making it work
That may be my ego talking so u gotta take that into consideration folks. MAN I SWEAR JR HAS THE SOUL OF A OLD BLACK MAN. I LOVE THIS GUY AND HOW HE ALWAYS KEEPS IT REAL!
Honestly wrestlemia 18 should have had the first elimination chamber with austin vs taker vs kurt vs nash vs hall vs booker and the winner gets to be the number one contender at backlash to the new champ
Instead of Scott Hall a feud with Goldberg at this time would’ve been much more interesting in my opinion. Scott Hall was a fraction of himself in 2002
I can't believe i'm saying this, because Rock and Hogan was one of my favorite matches of ALL time (As far as excitement, story, and fun not really on a technical standpoint) do you think if Rock should have faced Hall and Austin faced Hulk?
I remember watching the build up to this match thinking surely this isn’t who StoneCold is wrestling at WM. I was only like 11 and even I knew something was off. My friend thought Stone Cold was going to be in the Rock vs Hogan match and it was going to be a triple threat or that Stone Cold was really hurt so they were giving him a easy night or something lol
Not having the nWo go over at Mania is insane. It literally killed their run in WWE and any storytelling going forward. There literally was nothing written for them after that. It had nothing to do with being a "Good worker" or not, it was only trying to show how WWE was more "dominant" then WCW. Austin losing to Hall would not of hurt Austin in any way as Ross even said about how big he was at Mania. The nWo needed it more than he did and to not even point out the obvious is silly. Ross has been in the business long enough to understand that. That's Ross's boy that's all. At the end of the day it was bad business, nWo you could have set up for an endless year run in WWE. So much money lost due to inflated egos.
This. I don't have a ton of sympathy for Nash, Hall or Hogan.....as all 3 played political games during their time in the business....but BUSINESS is the key word....you and the promotion are there to make money....and a well constructed NWO angle could have made good money....instead they made them look ineffectual and weak. Seems like it was a combo of WWE wanting to shit on former WCW guys and Austin going through his "manopause" phase where he whined and moaned about just about anything creative threw at him and offered no alternatives. Reminds me of something Kevin Sullivan said about Hogan wanting to bring Warrior in for that terrible angle in WCW: "He put his feelings over business."
Why do these guys talk like we are dumb? They didn't play Austin. It was supposed to be him vs hogan and he said no. What was vince supposed to do then, wasn't too many options left
Austin should have been the first Undisputed Champion and defended the title against Triple H at WrestleMania X8. They should have done Hall & Nash vs. Undertaker & Kane.
Idk who hated DDP, but if done right.... you do Austin vs DDP. You've got Hogan vs Rock...... why not play up the WcW stuff blah blah blah. DDP was treated like crap however and we got this..
WCW used Hall and Nash as a tag team more than WWE once they went back. If I remember correctly..and I think those 2 as singles match wrestlers are good but as a heel tag team The Outsiders were fantastic. Hardy Boyz Dudleys Edge Christian, the Outsiders would’ve been great working more as a tag than singles in WWE imo. Had plenty of good teams to work with.
IMO how I’d book the main matches of wrestlemania 18 is The Rock vs Triple H for the titles then Austin vs Hogan. I’d keep Undertaker vs Ric flair that was a solid match IMO .
IMO , If I remember this right , the mistake they made here was they tried to bill this as a battle between who is tougher , Scott hall or stone cold . Which was a huge mistake . Scott was tough but was never booked as “one tough SOB “ . He had been a heel since 96 . They should have done Austin vs HHH and the nWo should have attacked WCW guys and younger guys (Hall and Jericho could have had a really good ladder match )
When Vince McMahon said he was thinking about putting Scott Hall "over" on Austin at WrestleMania it should have been the first sign that McMahon was losing his mind.😂
I think it should have been Austin vs Nash with Hall at ringside. Austin usually worked well with big men in matches as watching the smaller Austin trying to out brawl them even after getting manhandled was entertaining. Hall at this point was better suited as a manger type antagonist. Hall could snipe at Austin from outside at different points. Austin wins after Hall accidentally hits Nash and Austin stuns him. Then Austin stuns Hall once he runs in. Both NWO guys are laid out and Austin drinks beer standing over them. Austin walks out and Hall and Nash get into in the back afterwards setting up the NWO dissolving.
I don’t get why this match gets crapped on, the match was pretty decent, both guys could still go, the build up was ok, plus both guys were over like rover. I like it.
SCSA was kinda a prima donna about who he’d work with honestly. The truth I think is deep down SCSA can’t work a crowd like Rock or Hogan and he knew he’d have been easily drowned out by a guy like Hulk Hogan. SCSA is a great gritty tweener but he’s not playing to the crowd like Hulk with his Hulkamaniacs or Rock who is literally “the People’s champion”. It’s the one thing SCSA always lacked he’s a loner to the end even in character.
Austin didn't want to work with Hogan. Nash couldn't wrestle, and the main event was already set. I don't know who he could have worked with. Booker T, and DDP weren't booked at his level. RVD wasn't there yet either. A feud with Steiner would have been interesting. Imagine those promos.

As far as commentators go, JR is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!!
The reason why Scott was found in rough shape the day of wrestle mania is apparently the day before Vince called Scott and he was suppose to go over Austin but then changed at the last minute. Scott then said what was the point and up until that point he stayed clean. He said this in an interview
Scott Hall got screwed over :(
100% Vince fucked with him and Nash. And changed the finish and tweaked the Hogan finish too
Austin's politics once again
@@RG-lr4pk This doesn't get mentioned enough.
well the Hogan thing worked @@thecardbunker801
I thought the Austin/Hall match was pretty good and so was the build up to it. People sometimes forget just how stacked that Wrestlemania was. Aside from Austin/Hall, you had three other main event caliber matches. You had Flair/Undertaker, HHH/Jericho, and Rock/Hogan. I think they did as good of a job as could be expected, and Hall pulled his weight in that match.
I agree. I really enjoyed that match.
@@hw5091Steve Austin Was Worse Than Hogan, How Bad People Claim Hogan Was With Creative Control Card. Mark Jindrak & Mike Awesome Also
It Sounds Like Austin Didn't Care How Big A Draw/Over A Talent Wrestler Was He Refused To Job To Them. Austin Would've Been In The Midcard If He Went Back To WCW. He Was Midcard Talent At Best. He Only Got Over Because Of The Attitude Era. Why Did Kane Have A One Day Title Reign? Did Austin Whine About Jobbing To Kane?
@@allencollins5666 right place n time for him. McMahon was a big reason why he got as big as he did. Also, Hogan lost to Kidman, angle etc. Austin would never lose to ANYONE clean. He lost ONE TIME, to the rock, in his last match. N only because he couldn't go anymore, otherwise he'd have told Rocky to fuck off as well. I give him a big of credit for finally dropping a match to the rock, but good lord. This fucking guy whined n cried anytime he was proposed to lose, like fucking bret hart. Same type of shit. Except hart has pictures of himself above his bed, with the Sargent pepper jacket haha! Biggest fucking mark in the business of all time lol!
have you ever seen Austin in interviews? he's a bull, what do you expect? Terry Bolea was no bull, just an arrogant idiot.
Meltzer would go on to write.... according to Meltzer....
He uses it for reference
Crowd was hot for this match. Not hotter than The Rock vs Hogan, but the fans were invested. Especially for the sell job Hall did with the Stunner.
The problem was they didn't build Austin vs Hall in a way, like The Rock vs Hogan.
I enjoyed the match though.
The only person who sold the stunner better than Hall was the Rock
Plus Nash had that tag team match NWO vs Austin and Rock, and the next week had a one on one match on Smackdown with The Rock, so he was healthy enough to have faced Austin one on one.
@Karson Franklin says a non-wrestling nerd
Anything would have been better than what we got.
@Karson Franklin Kevin Nash has better matches than any of these modern flippy vanilla midgets who can't draw a dime.
Agree 100%. Austin carried that company on his back with a bad neck for years. He deserved better.
Good old JR 😎. Living legend.
I remember that Bischoff said Austin would be a mid card player if he was in the star pool of WCW during the Monday night wars and that kind of happened when everyone from WCW came over. Hogan vs Rock was by far the main event of this show.
They should’ve had a Austin vs Angle match at maina 18!
Why?they feuded numerous times months earlier
@@maxmeza4859 That was the first name I thought of, obviously there’s other ppl he could’ve had a better a match with.
I’m sure they did but that would’ve been miles better than that forced Austin vs Hall match.
It should of been ric flair tbh, the person Austin calls the GOAT & who he would of had great chemistry with. I know Flair and Taker wanted to work but they honestly could of just did it the year after. Takers handicap match at 19 was terrible and that would of fixed a lot imo
No thank you to angle
'...but *somehow* Stone Cold changes his mind a few days later and takes the Stunner from Hall.'
Yes, def. sounds like something Bischoff woulda had an aneurysm at after Meltzer quoting 'the boys' taking a stand against an NWO run, only to 'somehow' do the job a few days later. Be interesting to hear SCSA's memories of that NWO angle leading up to that WM.
I disagree with JR losses do matter unless you're a made man. The stuff that they do now where you lose every match for two months then get a title shot does not build credibility.
Yeah plus you're gonna bring in the nWo and beat them immediately?
@Cody Gatzke It depends how it happens. Getting a dirty win over Stone Cold is still a dirty win. Beating him clean is a whole different story and clearly shouldn't have happened. Hall and the NWO screwing Austin and building to a payoff would have been fine, IMO.
Goldberg and Takers entire career was based on Wins!
Cena, the rock or randy orton can loose today and can't hurt them as much as a current top wrestler...
Tell that to Austin when he lost to Bret that a loss hurts you :/
Should have put Austin in the main event with HHH and Jericho. Have Hall and Nash win the tag titles and go from there....
Clips like this make me miss when Conrad was good at podcasting
The best way to get over by losing is utilized in the King's Road style in Japan where the loser takes the winner to his limits so you're lead to believe it could have went either way and then at a later date the rematch happens and the loser of the last match has evolved to the point where he can finally overcome the previous opponent and both of them still look strong and if the fans and writing stays good you can milk it for a bit
I think the biggest example of the loser of the match going over would be HIAC '98 Taker/Mankind. Taker wins the match fairly dominantly, but Mankind makes his whole career via his performance in that one match.
That’s was punk losing to Morrison in ECW repeatedly until he finally went over
If only this was the Hall of a few years earlier, none the less I think this was more about Austin then Hall's issues outside the ring. He could still go when the bell rang and of the three I'd say he was still probably the best of the workers but on name value,to Austin, it looks like he's getting the lesser of this big three and losing.
That's a damn shame about Scott Hall. Substance abuse kills so many people's careers not just in WWE. He was such a great name for that time period.
On the other hand Taker and Michael's used their spot on the card. As motivation to have the best match many have ever seen.
Hall was drunk on Wrestlemania weekend and threw a fit after he found out he was losing that night. Austin should have been booked better. Edge had a higher match on the card that night! Unforgivable.
We're not talking about scsa vs rock. Hall was living off the gimmick in those days, not his in ring skill
lol i should have specified. Idk.
Love me some J.R. but weird hearing him drop the F-Bomb. Could listen to him all day though!
Imagine Scott Hall reviving Razor Ramon to face Stone Cold. Could’ve been The Bad Guy VS The Toughest SOB.
🤔 ok
Razor was long gone by 2001
It was bad guy Scott hall.
Putting Scott Hall in his Razor Ramon gear for WrestleMania 18 would have been the dumbest possible thing to do. Nobody wanted to see that.
couldnt get off the liquor.
Razor Ramon was always a favorite. Not for the gimmick but for the bad guy attitude Scott Hall naturally had. His ladder match vs HBK was always a favorite. If he had straighten up, I feel his match with Austin would've been another great one.
Imagine an 8 man tag
Hulk, Nash, Hall, X-Pac
‘Taker, Hunter, Rock, Stone Cold
Sounds terribly clunky
That's a good Monday night raw thing. Or a B level ppv. Not a WM match.
WrestleMania 2000 tried this type of booking. It doesn't work.
Better still, all those guys in a Battle Royale until the last man standing
It should have been Stone Cold vs The Rock vs Hulk Hogan triple threat match in the Main Event at Wrestlemania 18. The 3 biggest stars in the company going at it on WWF biggest stage of them all
"That aint gonna work for me brother."
@@st4ne4rmthevill63 "Know your role, and shut your mouth"
Nope. Triple threats suck.
Stone Cold didnt want to work with Hogan.
Uh no, kid. Everyone was cheering Hogan...and what makes u think Hogan wouldve wanted to work with Austin by Summerslam?
Uh no, mark. The “kid” makes a good point. Fucking Toronto cheers Hogan and they put him back in the red n yellow right away, thats tired, lazy shit. Keep Hogan heel whether they cheer or not makes it waaay more compelling.
@@thekinginthenorth3650 Uh yes, smark. Your boyfriend made a stupid point. WWF fans wanted the Red and Yellow, not the Black and White. People wanted classic Hogan. And what makes you think Hogan staying heel magically wouldve made him and Austin want to work with each other?

Facts
Scott Hall was such a great performer he could've had many more great matches if not for his substance abuse issues. Jim said no one text him to ask how he was doing except Scott crazy how he says how close he is with Austin and never really hear from him
I REALLY want to listen to these but the audio is crackly I can’t stand it. It’s every episode I’ve tried to listen to. Fix the audio.
Oh wise up, do you think Austin would have done that without Hall's OK? Do you know for definite it was actually beer?
Holy fack i never thought about the beer part like that...
I recently watched that episode. It was disgusting.
Seems like austin was a backstage politician
Oh hell yeah
Everyone to a degree is a backstage politician. They have to defend themselves and push their view points. It's only if you're an azzhole about it like Hogan, Warrior, The Kliq or others.
I still don't think any of them were as bad as Cena. @@stuartday1330
I presume you have to be if you want to keep your spot and make money.
Yes he was but there's nothing wrong with that he earned that right. Without Austin WWE wouldn't have been able to go public.
Ironically enough, Austin got mega over when he lost to Bret.
Yes i
With Hogan winning the WCW. They should have broken the undisputed titles at No Way out
Trips vs Austin at Mania sounds nice but 2002 was Trips bog comeback year, he returned as a babyface, he had to get clean victories man and beating Austin clean....hmmm thats kinda difficult
@Donal Finn get a grip man, your acting like a Diva
Dude JR knows his football
I sincerely think putting the belt on Jericho before WM was a bad idea. As great as Jericho is, he is not in the same league as Austin, Rock, Taker, Angle or even Triple H and Benoit from that era. The WM should have had Rock vs Hogan for wcw title and Triple H vs Austin for the Wwe title with Triple h turning heel and joining the nwo at the end of the night!
Agree with this even a triple threat with Jericho and put the tag titles on NWO hall and Nash
👏👏👏👏👏
Interesting take I think it goes back to the Invasion angle plus when Triple H was injured if he wasn’t not sure what the result would’ve been
Interesting hmm 🤔, everyone always talks about how Austin vs.
Hogan just got it built into his contract
Also really funny no one is talking about how well Scott actually performed in the match.
Way to spotlight what a weak mind Hall has.
When you’re the reason the company became publicly traded you can be whatever you want
They also worked Hall to death before Mania. His contract was for 10 days a month but he ended working the house shows in the lead up to Manis. So Hall busted his ass for a month only to get jobbed out to Austin when all along they told Hall he was going over.
They wanted to trust the NWO guys who never really put over the WCW guys in trashing their previous company??
@rmccay88 he had every reason to.
R.I.P. Bad Guy.
Look WM 17 should have been: Hall Vs Rock, Hogan Vs Stone Cold, and Nash Vs Undertaker 2. Stone Cold shouldn’t haven’t been given veto power!
It should of been stone cold vs hhh. Imagine they done that by coincidence, Hogan turned to face, triple h turned back into heel as nwo leader. Evolved it to the kliq. Jesus that would of been money. Especially Michael's returning. Shame how it all played out with nwo..
@@ryan4372 that sounds brilliant bro
Being Ron Simmons back to comic con Little Rock Arkansas!!!
Does anyone know why Austin faced Scott Hall instead of Kevin Nash, I feel like it would have been a better match since Austin and Kevin are good friends
I still to this day think it should of being Austin v hogan at wrestlemaina
Maybe I need to eatch the match back cause I remember enjoying it and thought it was on the right spot of the card that night.
I genuinely enjoyed this match
Watching this as a fan back in the day I was all into i mean ffs its
Scott Hall vs Stone Cold!!!
my friends and I still quote the promo to this match lol
Scott hall going over on stone cold at wrestlemania😂😂 Scott is cocky asl😆
He wasn't going to pin him clean. Nash was there to interfere in the match.
He ended up going home for a while he was so upset over things. He talks about it on his A&E biography. He regretted acting like he did.
Hall had a lot of problems at the time, no way was he going to win against Stone Cold
It should've been Austin vs Nash instead of Hall. Or Austin vs NWO handicap match.
You mean Undertaker would be number one contender at Backlash.
I guess I disagree. I think Hall & Nash should have gone over Austin. It’s what was good for business
Instead of Scott Hall a feud with Goldberg at this time would’ve been much more interesting in my opinion. Scott Hall was a fraction of himself in 2002
Best podcast
I can't believe i'm saying this, because Rock and Hogan was one of my favorite matches of ALL time (As far as excitement, story, and fun not really on a technical standpoint) do you think if Rock should have faced Hall and Austin faced Hulk?
Rock vs nash. Austin vs hogan. Hall vs hhh
😂
A young Scott Hall Vs Steve Austin is money but at that point in hall's life i dont blame steve one bit for feeling that way.
Hall had too many Steveweisers
Steve had one too many Steveweisers too
Having Austin dump beer on him wasn't helpful towards Scott's recovery
Because the majority of you are dumb.
Turning Hogan face was so stupid. Its not like the attitude era wasnt full of babyface heels.

I wouldn’t trust Benoit’s judgement to be honest looking back.
Why is Meltzer held in such high regard?
His match with Bret at WM 13 was his best.
I like it.
Pritchard's commentary on these issues is interesting.
🗣️TALKKK JR 💯
Sold that stunner at wrestlemaina. was beautiful
Austin getting pissed at Hall for DRINKING the IRONY
You sound like a dumb person.
@@Rschr101 I can assure you judging by your photo I am higher IQ then you can ever hope to be
They changed the finish first, then Scott went out drinking.
People like that.
Austin mania-rock x2/HBK/Bret Hart/ atm of X8. All of em classics
Rest In Peace Scott Hall
R.i.p. Scott Hall
All of Austin’s great WM matches? Really
Michaels? Nope
Vega? Nope
3 vs Rock? Yes (not all3 had happened yet)
Bret? Yes
Pretty sure that’s it.
Yeah I heard Austin say his match with Shawn was "the drizzlin' shits". Obviously Shawn was badly hurt and then Tyson counted a bit too fast.
