Send in the Scots! For this list, we're counting down those actors and actresses who were born in Scotland, but for various reasons their Scottish background is often forgotten. Perhaps they play English characters, maybe their accent has disappeared, but these performers are all from north of the border - and proud of it!

Who can forget that David Tennant and James Mcavoy are scottish??
Ikr? How can you be a fan of these people and not know they're Scottish?
Why not throw Ewan McGregor in there too while you're at it lol
The first time I saw David was only 2 seconds of a commercial for Casanova and wasn't able to hear his voice nor name. Still, it didn't stop me from saying, "Whoever that guy was, he is definitely 1 hot son of a Scotsman.".
TriggerGirl007 so true
TriggerGirl007 ikr as far as I know James is Glaswegian from drumchapel and David is from paisley I think but I’ve never forgotten and thought oh forgot they were Scottish only have to watch them interviewed and it’s obvious especially if interviewed by their fellow Scot Craig Ferguson
David Tennant has a strong Scottish accent so I found very difficult to forget he’s Scottish.
And the fact there's a lot of projects he's done in his proper accent
@@violentviceroy2570 including Ducktales. Whoo hoo!
To me, it's not just the voice. When it comes to the way he looks and acts, the guy definitely has Bathgate written all over him.
Michelle Warns for me it’s easier to forget iain glen is Scottish than those two frankly
How can you make a video like this and not include a snippet of every actor speaking in their scottish accent?!
"Captain Jack Harkness and who are you?"
"Martha Jones"
"Oh stop it!"
"I was only saying hello!"
Saying hello is flirting for Jack.
Kelly McDonald would be a good shout too, she's been doing American accents for a while now. Laura Fraser is a good one, I'm Scottish and I didn't know she was Scottish until recently. Her accents are great.
James McAvoy really has come a long way since shameless. Another great video.
He went to my school
Nope, always knew they were Scottish and hadn't forgotten it.
That's right - we knew . . .
proud to say i am from Rutherglen alongside hagrid
Thank you. Just the name "Iain Glen" ... really ...
Wow thank you so much for reminding us of something we already knew. As a Scotsman, I often hyperventilate at the thought of forgetting who's Scottish, so this has helped me in more ways than you could imagine.
But most importantly, thank you for restoring my will to live.
My god have mercy on your soul.
Me, too. I am having a conniption fit at the very idea of forgetting.
Title should be 10 Scottish actors you always knew were Scottish. They all still speak with Scottish accents even John Barrowman who adopts an American accent most of the time but when he's in Scotland performing or being interviewed on TV or radio reverts back to his original accent.
I have never heard Barrowman speak with a Scottish accent, only with his broad, and annoying even to this Yank, mid west inflection.
Yeah, like I said, he only reverts to his Scottish accent when he comes to Scotland. I live in Scotland so any time I hear him interviewed on TV or radio he's speaking with a Scottish accent.
yeah the name of the list seems idiotic to me, it seems to be more of a list of the possible underrated scottish actors with the possible exception of alan cumming
Barrowman is the only one I forgot is of Scottish birth. I'd read it somewhere, but the accent has me forgetting. I don't mind his accent, but then the midwest accent doesn't bother me.
Ewan McGregor
Tommy Flanagan also has a very strong Scottish accent. Couldn't understand a word he said in Sons of Anarchy (Chibs) and also in Wu Assassins. Great actor.
John Barrowman did do a Scottish accent when he was a guest on Attack of the Show. The host was talking about the movie "Brave" and did a terrible Scottish accent, so Barrowman was compelled to show him up with a real one.
Im a Swede of Scottish Decent 🇸🇪🏴
And i find Things like these quite fun
Loving these picks! always look forward to your picks! Thank you
Iain Glen has a soft Scottish accent, but it's definitely still there. Brian Cox has a pretty broad Dundonian accent. South-west isn't the only Scottish accent!
Brian Cox can be deciphered by people outside of Dundee so no, he does not ;)
He has a pretty refined Edinburgh accent. Goes to show folk think everyone in Scotland is a Working Class Glaswegian or some non-existent highlander.
@@krashd Dinny ken whit ye mean, Pal.Yir mooth's in the cundie near the Stobie eh think..
I feel like in his earlier episode of doctor who you can hear David Tennant's scottish accent coming out.
How could you forget David Tennant and James McAvoy are Scottish ?
WatchMojo: Top 10 actors who are Scottish
The Doctor: Not me. NEVAH
Lol....I only clicked because the thumbnail was James McAvoy 🤣🤣
Nessa , me too
Me to
Same
Exactly who is supposed to have forgotten? No-one with a scintilla of knowledge has. It will also come as something of a surprise to Brian Cox to learn that he's lost his accent
I'm surprised Kevin McKidd isn't on this list. He plays an American doctor in Grey's anatomy and pretty much nobody this side of the Atlantic know he's Scottish
Except of course for the millions of Trainspotting fans.
And the cult of Dog Soldiers whose fans are in the millions.
If you have seen small faces you will know he is scottish
I thought he was born in America
@@justalittlealien He was Born in Elgin. Moray, Scotland.
I didn't forget any of them were Scottish, but then, I'm Scottish.
Ewan McGregor (from tranainspotting)?? Gerard Butler (from 300)?? Henry Ian Cusick (from LOST)?? SEAN CONNERY!! Hello?!
Shirley Henderson was also in Trainspotting, how dare you forget!
And Hamish Macbeth.
Ill never forget robbie coltrane is scottish because he went to a school visit where my grannie worked in glasgow in the 70s and gave the kids car rides in a sports car around the street for the whole day
Scots are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
Stuart K. Seels That I will agree on. I used to know a red head boy who sounded Scottish but I never questioned where he came from
We fuckin are mate. Take care and be safe.
Brian Cox! He's my Granny's Cousin! He's in my family
McAvoy says he’s ‘professionally English’ but is otherwise the real square sausage-‘the real McCoy’ for all you Yanks. He even says that sometimes his mates in his native Glasgow will take the piss out of him and say he’s ‘too posh’ for them.
The real square sausage, LOL. Love that one!
They should have all been speaking in their lovely Scottish accents. Most of them I knew but a couple I had not heard of.Of course there are heaps more to include.I am a proud Scot and would never alter my accent, its one of the best in the world.👍👍
I'm so used to hearing John Barrowman's American accent that when he speaks with his natural accent it sounds like he's faking it!
I wish #10 was the 10th Doctor David TENnant lol get it?
pretty much everyone on this list I knew where Scottish I was surprised that they didn't add Billy Connolly onto the list
What about Dougray Scott: Prince Henry in Ever After? A lot of people forget the fact he's Scottish!
Diana North I never do if you’ve watched other films it isn’t hard to work out
Diana North Dougray Scott talks with quite a Scottish accent in MI 2 as the head villain.
Never even heard of number 1, but the only one I was surprised by was Brian Cox, the rest weren't forgotten
Fuck yeah glad some media is finally calling these people Scottish instead of English
How do YOU know what I forgot? Can you read my mind?
You forgot James' "Rory O'Shea Was Here/Inside I'm Dancing"
Gerrard Butler is from Paisley in Scotland
I’m like
HOW could someone forget that David Tennant is Scottish :O
In other words they are CHARACTER ACTORS!!!...and most when interviewed are clearly Scottish!!!
My mum is Scottish, so I'm more than used to hearing the accent. Its kind of hard to forget
Surprised Madden wasn’t on this list.
Good shout, he's beginning to make it big that laddie.
Who could forget Fitz is Scottish!
I imagine most Brits would know these entries are truly Scottish - If I remember rightly, Laura Fraser used her real accent in the BBC3 drama Lip Service.
David Tennant Doctor Was The Most emotional
Love Scottish accent!!!!!!♡♡♡♡
which one... there are a few accents up here
@@thepinuppt It wouldn't be Doric anyway! ;)
Same
Apart from my grandads his is weird
Riby AAnm which one?
I'm surprised Ewan McGregor didn't make this list at all.
Iain Glen is one of the few people that can pull of a west Ireland accent. They all have very thick accents!
Are you suggesting they are all thick? Or from someplace called Thick?
@@leylandblooter6515
More like they're suggesting the accent makes them sound thick. Maybe even to the extent of thicc or even thicc af.
I live in Scotland and my mum keeps asking me why I keep speaking Scottish and I just say cause I'm Scottish
A better title: "Some Scottish Actors - Many of Them Obviously and Unforgettably So".
How could you have forget Richard Madden
It’s so weird hearing John Barrowman with the American accent cause I’d see him in panto pretty much every year where he would use Scottish.
Where can I find the British Neverwhere with Laura Fraser (I loved her in a Knight's Tale)
Billy Connolly, Sean Connery, and Robert Carlyle.
Even though i am scottish i didn`t know about one or two of the actors/actresses being from scotland.
Ian Glenn was at my hotel at my last holiday!
Can anyone tell whats that Song at 4:26?
Ian Glen has a Scottish accent in all his roles though
Kevin McKidd should definitely have been on this list!
Love Fife being mentioned
John Barrowman is amazing
Even though James McAvoy is Scottish, but I keep forgetting, because he portrayed Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise
He's a great character actor, and hence can just become those roles. Going to be one of the greats if he carries on like this.
Iain Glen's accent is still there, it just takes a bit of listening to, especially the way he uses his 'esses' in sentences. Brian Cox was a friend of my dad at school.
Good thing you do not include Sean Connery as everybody knows he is from Peckham.
He was born in Edinburgh.
It is illegal for me to watch this list.
Because I never forgot they were scottish
And what about Gerard Butler? Is he Scottish?
Nah he wants to be though but he just sounds like a fanny now lol 🤣
How can I forget that David Tennant is Scottish when it took me took me 2 seconds to notice that he has Bathgate written all over him.
Since you’ve talked about Scotland, will talk about Wales & Northern Ireland?
Will you talk about England?
Laurence Ellis no to the England bit.
There are already videos on "top 10 actors you forgot were british" where at least 9 out of 10 of them are english. It's pointless to make near enough the same video twice. And if we're all honest, does England really need to be talked about any more than it already is. Ask any none brit to do a british accent and I can be sure that they will all do English accent. It's nice to give the rest of us some recognition sometimes.
Well now I know the actor who played barty crouch jr and hagrid.
Scottish actors are bloody brilliant man
Dougray Scott
It's not hard to tell Robbie Coltrane and David Tennant are Scottish
I’m sorry but who forgets James mcavoy is Scottish really ? He’s from drumchapel in Glasgow only need to watch one video interview with him and it becomes obvious ! Ian glen is far point though
I knew Robbie Coltrane was Scottish, but Alan Cumming? I never knew. (Also, part Scottish)
Just got to listen to Cumming when he's not acting, he still has a thickish accent.
Death THunder Studios in the Alan Cumming does a German accent in the X Men prequels which he costarred in, in the film Goldeneye he put on a Russian accent and in the Good Wife he puts on an American accent.
Who can forget Victor and Barrie.
Robbie Coltrane? Robbie Coltrane the man is Scotland
What about Billy boyd, make a part 2
Big up Fife 👌
Wow, I thought I knew they were Scottish, thanks for correcting me
Us Scots don't forget as we are proud of our countrymen
GERARD BUTLER??
Wheres Sean Connery,David McCallum,Billy Connolly,Micky Rooney etc?
Ian Glen was Inn musketeers
it kinda hurts me that you didn't include Malcolm Merlyn in John Borrowman's credits.
Alan Cumming was in thegoodwife!
What did she have to say about that?
Shirley Henderson i remember best from the 2020 movie Greed starring Steve Coogan and David Mitchell.
Coogan played Sir Richard McCreedie aka Greedy McCreedie.
It drew parallels with retail tycoon Sir Philip Green aka Sir Shifty.
Henderson played McCreedie's tiny Irish mother.
No surprise that Green didn't really want to see the movie and didn't really like the idea either.
I know just few of this actors and knew Coltrane is Scotsman..
Two words... John and Barrowman
I liked James McAvoy in Sci-Fi's Dune.
McAvoy, seriously? He's The Last King of SCOTLAND ffs!
you forgot Ian McDiarmid hes Emperor Palpatine/ Death Sidous from Star Wars
@@RockstarWizardess yep I'm surprised he wasn't on this list
That's a good one. Also, Sylvester McCoy.
@@dslvstr8480 James Cosmo too, another solid character actor.
4:29 hello the doctor will everyone now
McAvoy in The last king of Scotland
How you forgot about Robert Carlyle!!
The actor I was most surprised to discover was Scottish is Kenneth Cranham. I could also argue that Lindsey Duncan has a bigger claim to be on this list that some of your choices.
and Martin Compston (very Scottish, but most famous for playing English in Line of Duty), John Sessions, Stella Gonet, Ronni Ancona, Kevin McKidd, Iain de Caestecker, Tom Conti, Laurie Brett, Rory McCann, and Michael Sheard (Bronson was Scottish!).
Cranham was born here, but think his family moved when he was very young down South. Funny was watching him in Pinter's The Dumb Waiter here yesterday!
Decent pronunciation of Kincardine, Well done! The BBC love to massacre that name.
And also they correctly placed it in Fife, as many sites claim it's in Clackmannanshire, where it has never been, although it used to be in Perthshire.
Shame he couldn't say Moray correctly, but its a better effort this vid than many of his other narrations!
Mcavoy was awesome in Filth, everyone who hasn’t seen Filth you need to watch it.
Omg I never knew he played me tumnes
ian glen is the villain in resident evil
David Tennant was from Paisley and he went to Ralston primary
Paisley is there so Greenock has someone to make fun of.
I'm not actually going to argue with that 😂
@@kaydaw24 Aye. Cos if you live in Greenock you are in sore need of a good laugh. It is a grim place.
Me: i hope David Tennant will be in thi-
Okay.
Guess Sean Connery is really an Englishman then as he's no included here.
I think he’s probably not included because everyone in the world knew he was Scottish
@@marcuswilson3485 No. The guy who posted this video obviously forgot.
