For this list, we’re looking at movie characters that audiences most hate - from villains such as Percy Wetmore in “The Green Mile” (1999) and Mrs. Carmody in “The Mist” (2007) to characters who failed to strike a chord with audiences - including Jar Jar Binks from the “Star Wars” franchise (1977-) and Bella Swan from the “Twilight” franchise (2008-12). Umbridge is a great character, she's very well written. Of course people hate her, that's what they supposed to do. Bella at other hand, well, she actually IS badly written.

Umbridge is the third fictional character I hate the most. Second is Rita Skeeter (ughhhhh she makes me so mad. In the movie she's not thaaaaaaaat bad but in the books you just feel like tearing all the pages out of rage of how obnoxious she is! I would never do that to a book though) and first is Percy. Frickin. Wetmore. From Stephen King's The Green Mile. I don't even know how to begin to explain him. He's just pure evil. When he did that to Delacroix I was so mad I had to put the book down for a few seconds to calm down

@@brainey001 Bellatrix was cleary one of the worst human beings that ever existed, but we can't forget what drove her to be like that. The House of Black, where she was born into, like many of the families obsessed with pure-blood, had a tendency to do inbreed, where they marry and breed with their own cousins just to keep their blood pure. Take Sirius' parents as an exemple as they were first cousins. Despite her parents were from different families, that doesn't disproves my statement. We also need to have in consideration the education she got that taught her that Muggles, Squibs and Muggle-borns were inferior. And last but not least her obsession with Voldemort. We all know what a human being can do when they are in love, specially when that love turns into obsession. Bellatrix was so much obsessed for Voldemort that she did everything to please him. All these aspects turned Bellatrix into one of the cruelest beings that ever existed in the Harry Potter saga. However, when it comes to Dolores, I only see a woman that was born to a dysfunctional family and only wanted to be above the rest, even if that meant lying or taking down any possible threat, all while taking pleasure in doing it.

Imelda Staunton once said she didn’t like Umbridge either... She said Umbridge was a “bloody monster,” but damn she played her well.
Imelda Staunton's portrayal was PERFECT!!! She was EXACTLY how I imagined Umbridge when I first read the book!! If Umbridge were a real person, she'd probably be a strong supporter of Donald Trump. I have no doubt about it.

I feel bad for Jarjar's voice actor. He was just doing his job as told and people were just plain cruel.
As for Umbridge, you'll know how effective an actor/actress is when people despise the character you play, especially with a villain role.

Except Ahmed Best is construing any and all criticism of Jar Jar Binks as personal attacks against himself. He played an unpopular character, and doesn't want to accept it. No one is being cruel to him. It's Jake Lloyd (young Anakin), not Ahmed Best, who was harassed by adults and schoolmates alike for his role in the prequels. He was traumatized to the point of quitting acting in 2001 and getting rid of all his Star Wars paraphernalia. How's he doing now? Last anyone has heard, he's was put in a psychiatric ward for schizophrenia in 2015.

You forgot Gladiator's Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). The character was so well written and we'll played, I couldn't watch Joaquin in other movies for years. Great job with Umbridge though.
Law & Order: SVU did the same thing with Lou Diamond Phillips. He played a child molester that tortured the kids he abducted. He's such a talented actor that it was MONTHS before I could see him in anything else and not get nauseous!!!
Jack Gleeson even admitted that he used Joaquin Phoenix's performance as inspiration for his performance as Joffrey on Game Of Thrones.

Michael Rosenbaum did such a fantastic job with Luther. He made Lex not only sympathetic but likable and admirable. It's too bad they go more in that direction.

Rayne Ozier Not if you read the book. The Nadia was threatening to kill his family if he closed the beach and ruined business for the hotel. The movie cut that whole storyline out.😀

yeah, I was really not a fan of that character, and regrettably, it kinda carries over to Kristen as well. Hard not to hate someone who just so spectacularly kills the embodiment of a character like she did with Bella.

Tom Riddle doesn't understand the concept of love due to him being conceived through a love potion while Umbridge is just a really despicable excuse for a normal human being.

I can say without a doubt in my mind that Percy Wetmore is definitely my most hated, with every fiber in my soul. I really have to give a lot of credit to Doug Hutchinson, he played Percy so well in the Green Mile. His stellar performance as such a twisted and evil being makes it hard to separate him from the character and not think badly of him. It certainly doesn't help though that he married some 16 year old when he was 51 years old...

Exactly. There should be characters hated because they're poorly done (Bella, Jar Jar) and characters who are fantastically done and thus hated (that cunt Umbridge).
Umbridge is such a great villain and Imelda Staunton played her exactly how Rowling intended. We all HATE her, just like we're supposed to. I kinda wish this list omitted characters we're supposed to hate though.

I think this list should have been divided into two separate lists as some were intentionally unlikable and others were that way do to bad writing, questionable casting..

Interesting how Bella (and Edward for that matter) are so popular to hate, but they carried 5 movies to the tune of over a billion dollars in tickets U.S., 3 billion worldwide. Makes me wonder if they are really that bad, or if this just another case of a minority thinking it's cool to hate on something. Cinema is art, so very personal and everyone is entitled to their opinions. I just don't get why people would keep going to see this character if they hated her so much? For comparison, can anyone imagine going to see Star Wars w/ Jar Jar as the lead?

There are enough despised movie characters that this could have easily been split into 2 lists: Most Despised Villians (who are supposed to be despised, like Mrs. Carmody) and Most Despised Characters (who people just can't stand, like Bella Swan).
Even as a kid, I always thought that there was something shady about Grandpa Joe, as he was somehow able to sneak out to buy Charlie a chocolate bar in the hopes of securing a golden ticket, with no explanation to how he got it, despite supposedly being bedridden for years. That, and he goads Charlie into drinking the levitating drinks, almost costing him the factory!🍫🍬🍭

There are two types of hated characters:
- Those who are hated because of their bad interpretation or miscasted actor.
and
- Those who are hated because they are written as annoying and irritating and are purposely hated as a character.
The problem with this list is that it combines both "terrible interpretation" and "purposely bad" characters. I think it they should've made seperate videos for two types of hated characters, because although it's mentioned in the beggining of the video that they will be combining the two, sometimes I just got confused because they're mixing two different reasons for hatred.

Michael is more sympathetic in Matilda. He is completely defenseless against his idiot parents and Ms Trunchbull. He doesn't have Miss Honey to help him out or adopt him like Matilda does. Having Matilda to compare himself to probably doesn't help him either. The movie gets a lot darker if it is imagined from his point of view.

This list is incorrect, it’s apples to oranges. There should be two lists, one of characters the audience is intended to hate, another the audience wasn’t supposed to hate but did thanks to incompetent filmmaking.
The Wormwoods and Jar Jar should not be on the same list because Ronald Dahl knew exactly what he was doing and George Lucas didn’t have a clue.

Unpopular Opinion - I actually liked BvS and Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex.
Percy, Nurse Ratched and Umbridge are hated but only because their actors did such a tremendous job of portraying such despicable people.

learned to like him over multiple viewings, of course a 'no justice' fanedit that concentrated on getting batman to fight superman via the branding vs disgruntled wayne employee really helped me understand his genius.
The fact that Dolores Umbridge is top of this list is proof that Imelda Satunton did a brilliant job portraying her.

You're right. I think characters, like Bella and Lex Luther for example, would have turned out much better if they were better written or had better performances from their actor/actress. Whereas characters like Matilda's parents were meant to be awful because that was how they were portrayed.
Honestly Bella was a lot less insufferable in the books (yes I read them cause my ex loved them) and it’s Stewart’s performance that made it worse

I feel like there's a bit of conflict in the grading on this list. There's characters on the list who are well written and great portrayals, but are hated because it's the intended results of the writing. And then we have the ones that are actually supposed to be on this list, like Bella Swan, who was an annoying character (not intended to be that way) played by an skilless actress.

@@klojoost1239 More of the same, I think its just that it was a lot more detailed and lasting longer in the books. You get so much more of her while in the movie it seemed like she was a b-plot. Same with all the other books, you get so much more. Plus they skip over storylines/changes a lot in the movies so they can get on with it faster. I really recommend reading the books
@Klojoost Quidditch match wasn't in the movie and it was one of her worst. She banished Harry and George from team for attacking Malfoy (and Malfoy was the one provoking them) and banished Fred in case they could change place.
Denethor from LOTR deserves an honorable mention too.
I actually like Bella Swan but friggin Kristan Stewart ruined her for people who read the books first!

Lex Luthor. As I had heard from someone who kept up with this regualrly. When he was finished with the show where he had played the chacter in Smallville, when the show was over. He wanted to move on and do other things. But the fans of the show requested that he do the caracter in the movies. He said okay, he would do for them. And for the character, he was basically acting the same way Heath Ledger was as the Joker. Sorry, but you can't have two villians acting the exact same way and love one performance and hate the other when both are appropriate for the character.
How the hell is Rose from Last Jedi not on here? The actress got bullied off social media and many threats because of it. I don’t hate her as much but she should definitely be on here. I doubt the actors for these got as much hate as Kelly Marie Tran did.

Yes she was an awful person but she made up for it later in life by apologizing to Forest for everything she ever did to him. Yes she was dying but when a lot of people are dying they like to make amends with the ones they hurt and that is what Jenny did. You have to understand that Jenny didn't have the greatest childhood and would always come over to Forest's house at night because she was scared. She had an abusive father. I liked Jenny because despite her being an awful person to Forest she still made up for it in the end by apologizing to him.

Hitman 3 should include a mission to assassinate Dolores and The Dursleys including their son. The Dursleys mission should be a cutscene in which Agent 47 kills Dursley Jr. first in front of them and leave the other to be crippled and to suffer.

That should give some clue into how the general population of the US feels about main stream media and politicians vs any external threats. I was more eager to see Umbridge killed off than Voldemort!
