They said goodbye to the A-list a long time ago. For this list, we're counting down those one-time big-time British actors, who just don't seem to get the limelight anymore. Orlando Bloom? Rupert Grint? The world was at their feet, but now we never see them.

#6. Clive Owen
#5. Hugh Grant
#4. Gerard Butler
#3, #2, #1: ??? Развлечения
Who from this list should still be in blockbusters?
WatchMojoUK Jamie Campbell Bower?
Clive Owen
Orlando Bloom. I want him back in movies, but I'm a gay guy and he's hot, so that piece of information explains the former statement.
WatchMojoUK Orlando Bloom and Rupert Grint
Ben Chaplin
Some of these actors and actresses have admitted they turn down Hollywood roles for the disdain they have for it, or in some cases don't actually need the money.
orlando doesn't need hollywood, he played legolas, he punch bieber he is the best
Plus the royalties from the POTC flicks don't hurt either.
When did he punch bieber?
Joao lima filho yup
spirittammyk yup
He punched Justin Bieber? I’m really out of the pop-culture loop.
Honestly, a lot of these actors are too good for Hollywood.
Buffoon1980 . I don't blame you a bit. I used to love going to the movies but Hollywood no longer makes movies that I like. Nowadays it is the same old, same old. I love the Golden Age of Hollywood when a lot of innovations were done, storylines were clever and witty (of course, there were always crappy movies), and there weren't too many sequels. Actresses dressed beautifully as well and not half naked. Today's Hollywood is not inspiring but boring with exceptions here and there. Thank goodness my grandparents introduced me to wonderful films when growing up.
You are never too good, but you can be not good enough...that s the case here, plus people get tired of seeing said actors/actresses.
Some are just garbage like Gerard Butler.
Given the crap Hollywood is now turning out, I can believe it. I doubt that many of them are heartbroken over this.
Hear, hear...from another doddering old man
Clive Owen is one of the most underrated actors out there. In my opinion, of course.
Michele O'Sullivan right there with you.
I concur. He is a brilliant actor.
Agreed.
Orlando Bloom, forgotten? Never!
Legolas 4ever
He will never be and Hugh Grant too
right?? he is a legend.
Agree! He just completed a great role in the Amazon Original, “Carnival Row”. So good that its been tagged for a sequel for next summer.
Of course he can't be forgotten
Orlando doesn't need Hollywood. Peter Jackson keeps him busy.
Baskerville Bee I bet he does filthy beast.
Check out Carnival Row.
Orlando Bloom's career is literally a drama students dream. All he needs to do is play characters other than Legolas & Will Turner.
Yah dream on. Even Miranda Kerr jumps ship. (Talking about that b1tch.)
I still think his role as the Duke of Buckingham is heavily underrated.
Well, that’s kind of the point🤷♀️. It’s GETTING the parts that aren’t Legolas and Will Turner. But you know, just THOSE are a pretty good score. Especially LOTR. Those movies will be running a looooonnnnng time, long after we’re all dead and gone. Our great+grandkids will be watching those.
Well, since Hollywood's mostly making horrid remakes these days, why would they want to keep working there?
AKA: Top 10 British Actors Who Found Out the Truth About Hollywood.
Some of them were just hacks who got exposed like Gerard Butler.
What's that secret?
Sajeje Sana ...Harvey Weinstein?
Hugh Grant has just been in Paddington and was brilliant in A Very British Scandal. Orlando Bloom is having a very successful theatre career at the moment, which wouldn't leave time to make any films. This is a bit of a crap list to be quite honest with you.
Check out Carnival Row, for reassurance that Orlando Bloom is very much still in the game.
I totally agree
Grant was brilliant in The Undoing with Nicole Kidman.
Rupert Grint was self imposed. After the HP series he wasn't sure he liked acting that much. He didn't want to give it up completely, but he'd been working since he was 12. He said in an interview that he fell back in love with acting while doing an off West End play, and is trying to stick to more independent stuff.
Clive Owen is probably my favorite actor and he's way to underrated imo
Luca the man is a great actor and also hot as hell. I think he would be the perfect James Bond
Clive Owen...is an underrated actor..he deserves more attention of hollywood
aShA TiWarI and give him better scripts than the likes of "Anon". What a horrible movie
Some of these are just British actors who got to the phase in there careers where they could turn down roles. Michael sheen being one
yeah that is the problem with these lists they never take into account the actor's free will to not work, LOL
omfug Michael sheen does loads of theatre and is quite open about the fact he’s happy to pick and choose after his making his money from twilight. Actings still a job after all
Oh yes I agree with you about Sheen, he is in a great position same as Owen, beside Hollywood no longer makes movies for adults.
omfug exactly and I think they’ve both had enough of making “franchise “ movies. Not that I have a problem with franchise movies I love them but can get why a actor wouldn’t want to commit to doing a movie franchise
A lot of these actors simply aged out of Leading Man/Leading Lady status. I think Kate Beckensale is a far superior actress than Jennifer Lawrece, but JLaw gets cast because shes younger and 'fresher'.
and because she fucked Harvey Weinstein.
Also alot of these actors have move there career to voice acting less stress and more time for family.
MC M she was never much of an actress just average. Pearl Harbor a bomb with a boring role and she was just okay in The Aviator whole Cate Blanchett killed it and won best supporting actress. She is very average. Sorry
Both these women will be forgotten in two generations.
Nuuuuu Orlando Bloom 😭 He’s one of my favourites 😍
Kate Beckinsale is so pretty
Hugh Grant appeared in "Florence Foster Jenkins" alongside Meryl Streep!!!
And acted beautifully... Very touching role in a comedy.
And then followed that with a string of critically acclaimed and successful roles. Absolutely brilliant in The Undoing.
Well, they can come back and star in British films or West End plays. Except for Liz Hurley - who can't act
Steven Cassidy Damn straight! And yes, agreed on Liz Hurley 🤣
Steven Cassidy hi
Only got roles for her tits
Orlando Bloom might be famous for Lord of the Rings and the Pirate movies but I will always remember him as the guy that fell out of the helicoptor in Black Hawk Down.
That or the ned kelly movie he made with Heath ledger where he played joe Byrne
I'll remember him as small town burglar who gets murdered in "Midsomer Murders"
Um, Hugh Grant was just in Paddington 2. And he received a BAFTA nomination because of it.
Drew Gars not a hollywood movie
Personally I think Michael Sheen does a great job in both Hollywood and back at home, but no one really deserves him, he's a soft bean ;-;
Orlando Bloom was the love of my life when I was 15.
I think you will find that the actors are busy doing smaller films or just living a normal life. Nothing wrong with that!!
Lynne Elliott Plus Hollywood rehashing old shows or doing sequels are not so interesting these days.
Yeah, Rupert already told everyone he's not a fan of big movies anymore. That's what makes him a cool guy
Man I love Orlando Bloom. He should be cast more, what a shame.😢
I hope you saw Carnival Row 😉
Clive Owen, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kate Beckinsale deserve much more. Hollywood is full of ageism
irina1296 so true Robert De Niro can never find work... wait wait
@@robertogomez2932 He can find work, but he hasn't been in a good film in years.
Ageism doesn't really apply to men.
So is Britain if you want a fookin job.
Clive Owen is so good.
Clive should have been James Bond
I wish he played more bad guys. I thought he was awesome in Bourne Identity. For some reason, when they play bad guys, that is when I really notice them. Never cared for Henry Cavill, but since I watched him in the new Mission Impossible movie, I can't stop thinking about him. He needs more meatier roles like that instead of goody two shoes.
OH HELL NAH
@@spirittammyk never heard of them
I think Luke Evans snuck in and took over Orlando Bloom's spot in Hollywood
I want Orlando Bloom back, but I'm a gay guy and he's hot, so that piece of information explains the former.
Oi
Butler is still in big-budget movies. He was just in Geo-storm just recently and has Hunter-Killer and Angel has Fallen coming soon. While they were or may be box office under-performers, he's still getting cast.
He's also the voice of Stoick in the How to Train Your Dragon films! But according to the video voice work doesn't count.
Yes....just saw one Hunter Killer.
@@nataliedunn5239 ditto.😊
But they have for the most part, been busts at the box office
Michael Sheen was the only ACTOR in the Twilight series, he knew what kind of movies he was in and turned up the camp accordingly, the rest of the cast were taking it way too seriously to even make it immersive, I know asking for quality and complaining about a movie with glittery vampires is too much but how did only one actor figure out how ridiculous the concept of the movies was?
Inside Man and Law Abiding Citizen are two of my all time favs
Inside Man was brilliant.
I wouldn't feel sorry for Michael Sheen. Good Omens is gonna be huge.
Whatever people think Hollywood is unimportant this should always be remembered.
Hurley was never considered to be a good actor
Gerard Butler was in Den of Thieves???...leading role.....last year......🤔
Was a much smaller film but than the big movies they are talking about
Yes.
Aging in Hollywood is difficult, no matter your nationality. There's a window when you're too old for the young parts and too young for the old parts that is hard to break through, especially for the big budget films. Whether your Liz Hurley singled out as a sexpot, or Gerard Butler playing the ripped action star, the demand lessons when you're 40 or 50. Look at Bruce Willis. Some of the others (Orlando Bloom, Catherine Zeta-Jones) came to stardom in supporting roles or ensemble casts but couldn't lead a film to success on their own. Why would you expect Hollywood to keep casting them?
wanderer79 I agree with some of what you said and I’m going to include black actresses in that category as well but....That’s not true for black “aging” actors, mainly because they aren’t having the same problems with getting roles as other actors their age. Look at Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Don Cheadle and Terrence Howard, all over 45 years old and have stellar careers right now
Orlando was good in that Musketeer film.
I liked Clive Owen in Sin City
Sin City is one of the worst films ever made. It looks amazing but that's it.
emma wyatt What makes you think it’s one of the worst. I thought it was ok. Not perfect, but ok.
and he rocked in " Shoot Em Up"
Sin City is one of my favorite movies and Clive Owen is the reason why
They need to put Orlando in a hard, R rated crime movie. He’s beefed up in recent years. I could see him as a super sexy villain or anti-hero. Fake tattoo, some wicked violence and you’d have a great leading man again.
There's a movie with Gerard Butler that's like what you're describing here. Don't remember the name. He's pretty beefed up there and not quite sexy because he plays a detective with a drinking problem, but that movie was good.
Ah, I just looked at LITERALLY the next comment and saw the name Den of Thieves. Seriously, watch it. The other leading man was also coooooooool.
Isn't that Tom Hardy?
I think this list should be Top 10 British Actors Hollywood Hasn't Cast in a While. Not that they won't cast them, it's just been a while. A lot of these actors have chosen to focus on other things or have turned down big hollywood roles even because they want to do more interesting work. Hollywood has become a big blockbuster machine that is focused less on smaller budget or even middle budget movies. Most hollywood projects have less interest in character or story. Frankly, I think it's smart to be cast in one or two big hollywood movies, do well and get your name out there. And being financially stable from it doesn't hurt either. You can have the freedom to pick and choose the roles you want to do.
Rupert just needs to play the Doctor
Doctor Who?
A Natural RED HEAD FINALLLY!!!!
@@Trustworthy_McLegitimate finally a ginger : D
Orlando bloom doesn’t need anything else he will never be forgotten 💙
Didn't Orlando stop doing films for a time to focus the stage?
I freakin love hugh grant
Aurora Geller explain why because to me he just plays the same character in nearly all his films
Aw you should watch 'A very British Scandal'. The character he plays is nothing like his romcom days and he delivers it perfectly.
@@fattwat1 Watch Maurice and A Very English Scandal. Also The Gentlemen and The Undoing
Hollywood won't cast them because they fear what they represent - " Class"
Well i think its all more to do with the fact that most of them are middle aged now Clive Owen is mid fifties and Ray Winstone about 60 .
So none of these would be considered leading man or lady material anymore.
I was just watching a clip from "The Princess Bride" and wondered; should Cary Elwes be on this list? He's done steady work since the 90s, but that includes animation voicework. Seems he's everywhere EXCEPT Hollywood.
It' s funny how Rupert Grint works hard each year (now he has 3 television series) but they must use his name for clickbait .
I saw Orlando Bloom in Tracy Lett's dark stage comedy KILLER JOE a few weeks ago in Trafalgar Square - he was almost unrecognizable (in a very good way) from his LOTR and POTC characters. And to say that Daniel Radcliffe has had a major Hollywood career since Harry Potter? Sorry, but his films have either been for the most part indies and flops.
Hugh Grant recently played a British politician who was involved in a huge scandal in the early Seventies, which he did brilliantly showing he is turning into a very good charector actor.
Also The Undoing. Absolutely brilliant in that series and now nominated for an Emmy.
Most actors lose their star power at some point. Even Julia Roberts hasn't pulled in hits like she used to, that's the nature of Hollywood. Only a select few can maintain lifelong appeal at the box office. I still like Orlando Bloom.
It's the nature of life. A career based on sex comes to a close after the menopause.
True that. Same can be said of Will Smith.
tkegal me too
I have to admit the only part where i really like Orlando Bloom is when he play Legolas. He gets away with being really sexy.. he is not that interesting of an actor otherwise as far as i have seen. I would like to see him do more nuanced roles.
"Beloved cousin, your beauty grows with each new moon."
Pretty sure that Hollywood would cast these actors again.. They just need one critical hit to get a decent number of movie deals in the future.. Has WatchMojo forgotten about Mathew Mccoughanahay?
Who cares what Hollywood thinks any more. They only care about their one sided politics. I love all these British actors and actresses you mentioned. Much better than many or most of our American ones
Nah. All these actors are still working.
I'm confused. WatchMojo (America) said that Daniel Radcliffe was an actor who didn't know he wasn't famous anymore. But on this video you're saying he's a very successful actor. Since some viewers watch both WatchMojo and WatchMojo UK, could you PLEASE keep your content consistent?
The thing is Daniel like some of this actors doesn't need Hollywood and like some of this guys he can turn down Hollywood roles for whatever reason he pleases
Plus let's face it you say Daniel Radcliffe and pretty sure a lot of people in the planet will tell you who he is
Plus watch mojo has been proven to talk a lot of bullcrap since
A) he's still been cast and recognized for he's awesome acting
B) He isn't famous according to Hollywood which at this point everyone knows it's a corrupt, racist community that blacklist or declares no longer famous anyone who doesn't comply with them
Aren't some of these actors in new movies and upcoming movies?
Butler would make an excellent Wolverine.
or Jack Reacher
You know...That's not the worst idea I've ever heard of....
Clive Owen is hot as hell and should be a huge star. He is also a great actor. What a huge loss
Maybe they should make a comeback in big budget tv dramas (like the ones on Sky Atlantic).
“Carried” Kingdom of Heaven?
I’m pretty sure the (presumably few) fans of that film try to enjoy it in spite of the fact Orlando Bloom was cast as the lead.
Clive Owen for sure. Rupert Grint imo is more talented than the other two kids so he might do better in the future. Gerald Butler is still hot and that should still sell
1:50 -
Ohh My, It's Matt Tuck from Bullet For My Valentine Lol.
Strange list... I remember quite a few of them in recent movies... maybe they didn't qualify as "Hollywood big movies"?
Gerard Butler: Gods of Egypt (2016), London Has Fallen(2016) Geostorm (2017)
Orlando Bloom: Pirates of the Caribean (2017)
Clive Owen: Valerian (2017)
Michael Sheen: Passengers (2016) Alice in Wonderland 2 (2016)
Not all of the movies were that successful but you can't say they weren't in any movies. Some of those had quite a budget. Besides these actors all should have enough money by now that they can pick and chose their roles or simply decide to retire and live the easy life.
I don’t think it bothers any of those actors not to be in Hollywood!!!
Aww Rupert Grint
I really feel bad for him...
But he's still rich so that's something....
He is just not actually attractive.... unlike Daniel and Emma
@@iriswaldenburger2315 Not to be rude but 20s did not suit Dan. Maybe 30s will look better on him. Hugh Laurie looked his best in his 40s. And Grint is actually a very fine actor. :/ He and Felton were probably the best of the younger lot.
@@zararafridi1051
Why do you feel bad ? It was his choice to get forgotten after Harry Potter...
Iris Waldenburger he doesn't want to act in a Hollywood movies
Ray Winstone was also in the 4th Indiana Jones film. One of his few family films
Hollywood has been going downhill for years. What do they make now? Mostly crap superhero franchises or bad remakes. TV has overtaken them in quality (especially in the US) and lots of British actors including many on this list are involved in them too.
There still has to be some hope for Orlando!!!
Carnival Row
The last movie Clive Owen was in was "Anon". It was a very good movie. I was surprised that it was released in May, earlier this year, and RUclips showed it for free
Orlando was also the crybaby from Troy
So every actor who doesn't appear in two or more Hollywood movies/films a year is out in your opinion?
Hugh Grant has less roles but is starting to have much better roles I think!
Id agree. He does fewer roles because he spends most of his time working with Hacked Off.
Children of Men was incredible largely because of Clive Owen.
I love how everyone is disagreeing with the Orlando Bloom one. I am too. Having a lead role in lord of the rings and pirates of the Caribbean, be now has $35 million. He also had been the main character in The Calcium Kid, back in 2004. He was also in the movie Troy as a big character. Even though Calcium Kid and Troy aren't big movies, he still had lead roles.
CLIVE OWEN IS A GREAT ACTOR HE SHOULD HAVE PLAYED BOND HE WAS PERFECT FOR THE PART BUT THEY WENT AND GAVE IT TO DANIEL CRAIG WHAT A SHAME 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Clive Owen was just in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets in a medium size role. And Butler just concluded a role as Stoick in How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2. Those are pretty big movies I'd say and pretty recent.
of course several of the actors cited have gotten "old" by Hollywood standards, although young, Grint can pick and choose considering how wealthy the Potter movies made all the leads, Zeta Jones might be past her prime, same with Hurley, and clearly Owen also wants to work on projects that interest him (similar to someone like Viggo Mortensen who could work more than he does.) Hugh Grant's "charms" left the building when he turned 50, LOL, he is irritating although he is doing Brit television. In short, most of these people are not really mysteries, Hollywood, these days, concentrates on CGI fueled cartoon movies that call for far younger actors sadly.
Too bad that youthfulness and beauty are the shallow standards by which Hollywood casts. I prefer talented actors who are not necessarily handsome or beautiful who can make a character believable. Too bad Hollywood has always been shallow but more so now.
omfug
Liz Hurley made however a great Queen in The Royals. And like somebody else said, TV shows are mostly much better than all the trash that Hollywood produces these days. I really seldom even watch movies and mostly just prefer TV shows.
Hugh Grant is worth about $100 million and he does what he wants to do. I doubt he's particularly interested in Hollywood and as he's aged he's displayed a lot of talent. He's a very intelligent man and doesn't seem unhappy with life.
@@peterd440 Funny that omfug mentions that "Grant's charm has left the building" when he's having a massive renaissance right now. His roles in A Very English Scandal, Florence Foster Jenkins, The Gentlemen, and The Undoing is proving him to be a very capable actor. Brilliant in his recent roles. Besides, Grant is much more focused on Hacked Off.
I really hope Clive Owen gets another shot at the big screen. He‘s a great actor.
A lot of these actors just can't act. They got roles in movies primarily because they were in the right place at the right time and just happened to perfectly fit a particular role. They have no breadth of skill. Also, acting is a cut throat industry. Lots of people want to do it and there aren't that many roles. It just takes one flub and then you're gone.
I liked Hugh Grant in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Clive Owen is an amazing actor and deserves more roles.
I just love the way you say some of these people won't get cast anymore... because they don't want to be. What? Couldn't actually come up with 10 but decided to do the list anyway? Business as usual at WatchMojo, eh?
Ageism is alive and well in Hollywood. All of these multitalented people have come such a long way in their careers they can pick and choose what films, t.v., theater, etc that they want to be in(example being Gerard Butler's lead performance as The Phantom in the musical The Phantom of the Opera").Many don't want to live in the US either and some have retired/ semi-retired to raise families or spend time with grandkids(having missed out on their own childrens' growing up while away making movies').I still believe that they all have the ability to create/be part of great movies but want to do things in their own way and in their own time. Some may prefer creating/directing movies instead of being in them.
Clive Owen was really awesome back in the day. I think it is a shame we don't see him in new movies anymore.
I think it is more of they do not want to be cast. Hollywood these days translates into "Let's film as cheap as possible in Vancouver" Hardly glits and glam.
Hollywood has become so bereft of actual talent and creativity that it just isn't relevant anymore. These actors are better for being gone from it.
Orlando is a very good British actor, he has done a lot of independent stuff as well as Hollywood stuff. I'm desperate to watch Carnival Row - I hear it's very good.
Yeah, what happened to Orlando Bloom. Loved him in the Lord of the Rings. And Gerard Butler was everywhere. Loved him in films as well. Hope they both make a comeback. Hollywood is fickled though. Well said. 🥰
I like Clive Owen and I believe Rupert will be like Ron, we haven't seen anything yet. Give him a few years and he'll do a kick ass movie with a kick ass role.
Funnily enough Orlando Bloom recently reprised his role as Legolas but not in a Middle earth product but rather in AMCs The walking dead as the wife of King Ezekiel.
Orlando Bloom is not a forgotten Actor besides he is one of my favorite ones
Zeta-Jones is retired married to Michael Douglas they have a combined net worth of 345 million.
She is soooo beautiful.
Clive Owen looks a lot like Matthew Lewis who played Nerville Longbottom from Harry Potter
British English sounds soooo much better than American English. A least to me as a German.
Even your industrial city hools sound more charming than most Americans.
Its a fairly misleading title. A recent study from Queen Mary University of London based on IMDB credits cited that actors only get maybe a couple of years of steady work before a significant drop in getting roles. To limit it to just 10 and British is highly subjective.
Hugh Grant is great.
