    We've all had tough days at the office. But some actors, dedicated to giving it their all, took their work a few steps too far. Though these critically-acclaimed, often award-winning performances are a delight to watch, the experience of preparing for and recovering from these roles did a number on the actors involved, and left a lasting impression - not always for the positive. Here are several actors who went the extra mile for their craft…
    Isabelle Adjani - Possession | 0:21
    Adrien Brody - The Pianist | 0:50
    Colin Firth - The King's Speech | 1:39
    Hugh Laurie - House | 2:36
    Bob Hoskins - Who Framed Roger Rabbit | 3:33
    Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight | 4:12
    Charlie Hunnam - American TV & Movies | 4:58
    Janet Leigh - Psycho | 6:03
    James Cromwell - Babe | 6:33

      kimmyleeeeee that’s what they want you to believe, all of these actors channel demons to play these roles so well! What makes you think they care about the children’s well-being, they probably don’t know their in a horror movie, they are more than likely being scared to death in real life to make it more realistic.
      If you see the methods actors take to get into character to make the film more “authentic” why would the same not go for children..
      these directors will do anything for the stake of the film

      In my opinion The Dark Knight is brutaly overrated. While the Jokers performance is really good, the story is absolute shit. Example wanted: The Harvey Dent plot is ridiculous. He is the best and nicest guy you could ever meet. After that, the explosion happens and he turns into an unpredictable Killer-Maniac in like...one day...It is not even the best film in its own trilogy cause that has to be Batman Begins.

    • @DJ-toblerone
      @DJ-toblerone 5 лет назад

      He's known as two-face before the accident because he's got this super nice guy front, but was a ruthless bastard of an investigator (not evil, but a dark and indomitable side that does not match his all-super nice charm). Before the explosion happens Harvey Dent is going around kidnapping and torturing mentally vulnerable people. He had a screw loose from the start. This mentally already deeply volatile guy with a known penchant for a darker side is mutilated while his girlfriend is horribly murdered, so he becomes a killer to take revenge on those he blames.

    According to several people who knew him well, Heath Ledger (1979-2008) became ill (cold or even pneumonia + insomnia) because his role in "The Dark Knight". Shortly prior to his death Ledger told a friend: "Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night. ... I couldn't stop thinking..." According to Ledger's former fiancé Michelle Williams, Ledger had struggled with insomnia often before. It is hard to know for sure, but if insomnia because of work related stress and insomnia, "pushed" Ledger to take the accidental overdose of medication, Heath Ledger surely deserves to be no. 1 on this list. Rest in peace, Mr.Ledger.

      first off bullshit. Ledger suffered from anxiety and insomnia and was medicated YEARS before the dark knight. According to interviews and testimonies from family, friends, and costars he was ecstatic about playing the joker. He claimed it was the most fun hes ever had with a character. Playing the joker didnt kill Heath Ledger, his family actually got royally pissed off and filed a few law suits because people kept making that claim.

    • @robynn144
      @robynn144 6 лет назад +10

      I agree. The role of playing the Joker DID NOT "kill" Heath Ledger. Ledger was actually working on two films at the time of his death; "Dark Knight" and "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". I am sure Ledger enjoyed playing the Joker; his protrayal of Joker is the best. Bui long term insomnia and/or anxiety can be very taxing and painful. It is a bitter irony that Ledger probably just wanted some much needed sleep, when he tragically took so much medication, that he did not wake up again. Ledger's passing was the loss of a truly great actor, and (as far as I know) also the loss of a kind and good man in his prime. Rest in peace, Heath Ledger.

    James Gandalfini after brilliantly portraying Tony Soprano. Look at him before, then after just six seasons. And that was some of the finest acting I've seen on or off the stage/screen. He morphed into Tony, and never played another role (nor did he have to, I guess) before his untimely death at age 51. Terrible loss for the industry; he was unmatched in his last role, absolutely unmatched.
    I see a lot of Shelly DuVall suggestions here, but I think she was absolutely terrible in The Shining and whatever's wrong with her now was wrong with her then. She just killed any chance of it seeming real (for me.)

      the topic is 'actors who were never the same after a role,' not 'actors who died during filming.' (mind you, they should do a video on that too.) the title implies that said actors went on to do other things after the role.
      if we're talking about 'the crow,' then it should be mentioned that actor michael massee, who played funboy, took a break from acting for more than a year after filming. not to mention child actor rochelle davis, who played sarah, stopped acting alltogether afterwards (though after looking her up on imdb, it looks like she's done a few things in recent years, but nothing for the 15 years after 'the crow')

      DJ SUPERNOVA yes this is what i tell everyone. it's literally in like every documentary about him, his friends and family saying they often got calls from him at 2 AM with new thoughts/ideas that he had. that's actually how his manager knew something was wrong the morning his body was discovered, because heath hadn't called him at some ungodly hour like he did every day. it makes me so sad.

      Its kinda funny how they say it was the roles that fucked them up. It seems more like these actors may have already been experiencing many issues and I think that is probably why they always give/gave good performances.

    When I saw Charlie Hunnam, I was sure he was going to talk about his role as a biker in SOA. Now THAT was pretty intense! I don’t know how it affected him, but it had an impact on me! I remember “binge” watching the first 3 seasons in order to catch up with the season my son was on so we could watch it together. By the end of that 3rd season, I found myself feeling a profound sadness-pretty much like feeling depressed. It took me a while to pull out of that feeling. He is an excellent actor, and I was absolutely surprised when I found out he is actually British!
    (By the way-if I were just 10 years...okay-geesh! If I was only 30 years younger, what I would love to do with that hottie....AHEM.... ummm, well never mind... Let’s just say I found Charlie VERY attractive and extremely appealing! 😛😁👍🏼👍🏼

    The main reasons behind Heath Ledger's mental state before death were more connected to his general loneliness (read: divorce with his wife, lack of contact with his daughter etc.) than to a movie performance itself. But of course the high energy input that was required with the Joker wasn't too helpful as well.

    The Shooter McGavin one is so accurate. Good to see him like the publicity of the character because I could see people getting frustrated when they say his characters name and not his.
    For example, Kiefer Sutherland is a well-known actor in many different roles, but there was an interview where a fan screamed "Its Jack Bauer" & he got kind of upset with the fan because he wishes people called him by him name & not "Jack Bauer."
    I am one of the biggest 24 fans & I would probably blurt out Jack Bauer first despite Kiefer Sutherland being my favorite actor. Again, he became my favorite actor because of 24.

    I like how Charlie Hunnam's toll was his accent lol. If you live somewhere long enough, you pick up the accent without necessarily losing your original. I was born and raised in Illinois for 7 years but spent the majority of my life in California but I've had people recognize minor Midwestern dialects in my speech.
