As soon as I saw the title of this video I knew that there will be David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch on this list.....also great actors on the list
Good to see you've included ladies as well as men. And it's good to learn the names of the actors because they're so versatile I haven't recognized them in all their roles. Here I come IMDB.
Gary Oldman once said that the famous conference table scene from "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" felt like "six degrees of Harry Potter." Himself, John Hurt, Ciaran Hinds, Toby Jones...except for Colin Firth. lol
I think Tom Hiddleston wasn't on it because he hasn't played one iconic hero role. I know he's been in a lot of things, but a lot know him as the villain Loki, and his smaller role in other things or characters that aren't clearly hero or villain. All of these actors I love, and yes a lot of the best British actors have been in Harry Potter, because of course they'd all want to be part of something so amazing, and they only wanted British actors. I'm surprisingly so proud of all on this list! David Tennant
I love Imelda Staunton, she was perfect when I saw her in Gypsy and Sweeney Todd , but her Delores Umbridge was vile and was probably even worse than Voldemort.
I love Benedict Cumberbatch to death but personally, I think David Tennant can walk the line a little better. Also, I would put Alan Rickman and Robert Carlyle higher on this list for one simple reason - all three (Tennant, Rickman, Carlyle) are true masters of showing both ends of the spectrum within one character. No one could pull off Snape´s complexity like Alan Rickman, Robert Carlyle made me root for Rumpelstiltskin despite the horrid things he had done and as to David Tennant, he is my favourite Doctor but he could be genuinely scary at times.
Count how many of these actors are in Harry Potter. Alan Rickman, Benedict Cumberbatch and David Tennat are my favourite ones but you should have also include Tom Hiddleston.
I'm happy that I've watched your video because firstly I eventually have found out the phrase 'you shall not pass' in original and secondly, thanks to the previous one, I've learnt a new way of using the word "shall" as it was used with 'you'. Also, I have discovered the word "shan't ". Thank you :) (sorry for my grammar mistakes)
First time I saw him was in a commercial for Casanova, but I only got to see 2 seconds of it. I didn't hear his name nor the name of the show, so I just thought "Whoever that man was, he was definitely 1 hot son of a Scotsman".
There's a reason most of my favorite actors/actresses are from UK/Ireland. They are better chameleons than the US crop, in general, exempting people like Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp, who can play pretty much every body. Boy, Harry Potter had the cream of the Brit/Irish acting elite, what a wonderful education for the young actors and actresses that started in the series.
Villain. Harry Potter, Die Hard, Robin Hood. Vera Drake, Finding Their Feet, Chicken Run. Then Harry Potter. Villain. Villain - Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland. Kings Speech, Cinderella, Suffragette. Gary Oldman! 👌 David Tennant! 👌
@@Sefiya But it's not as iconic as his Saruman / Count Dracula roles so I guess Christopher Lee doesn't count. Sad though, I liked him as Ansem the Wise in Kingdom Hearts 2..
It was just a joke ... not a good one, I admit, but I thought it would be funny for someone. But on the other hand, to answer your question: Since very often Hollywood casts brits as villains (best example Alan Rickman: a brit who plays a german ... seems to be double bad)
not sure that Die Hard started Alan Rickman's career... always thought it was Barchester Chronicles (1982) where he portrayed the very slimy Obadiah Slope... not unlike Snape.
Antony Hopkins his role as the kind Doctor in the Elephant Man got him the role of Hanibal Lector they thought what if this guy was evil. He can play good villains and characters that will melt your heart. I dare you to watch Shadowlands without weeping a tear.
Peter Cushing?!? Good : Doctor Who / Sherlock Holmes / Van Helsing - Bad: Baron Frankenstein / / Grand Moff Tarkin / Paul Beresford (The Avengers - Return of the Cybernauts)
Jude Law should have been here. He plays villains amazingly such as Maguire,King Vortigern,Pitch Black and recently Yon-Rogg. He's also great at playing good guys such as Doctor Watson.
Jane Ιωάννα he wants to fight the mutant persecution. That doesn’t sound bad right? In fact even Xavier wants to. It’s just that Magneto wants to wage war to save his people while Xavier wants peace to save his people.
Olufemi Temple He’s more of a complicated character more than an anti-villain. Yes if u see the original trilogy u can say that, but, given the prequels and such, we see his pain. Humans killed his wife and daughter in from of his eyes for crying out loud!
Well, he's not a hero, but you're right, I can't say he's a villain, either. But, his intentions were good and justified but his actions were wrong, and the most haunted past can't justify some things. After all, it's our actions that define us. I say, that he's a complicated character that made some controversial decisions.
ruclips.net/video/YMUqWdQQgbw/видео.html I would pick Adam Sutler from V for Vendetta for a villain and The Doctor / War Doctor from Doctor Who for a hero. ;-)
MsRoseAfton He is British Scotland is part of Britain I am also British and I am English although I have an Irish surname 😀😉👍. Scottish, English and Welsh people are all British.
MsRoseAfton Britain includes Northern Ireland as well but that's a touchy subject. The British flag or the Union Jack is a combination of 3 older national flags the English, Scottish and Irish the Welsh flag is not represented because Wales was already united with England when the Union happened. It's a shame a dragon on the flag would have been awsome.
Most of these actors were extraordinary as villains, often even outshining the protagonists. However truth be told a lot of their "hero" performances were less than memorable. And that is why Hollywood needs to keep casting the Brits as villains.
Which British hero and villain combo would you like to be captured by and subsequently saved by? For example, captured by Khan, saved by Sherlock :D
WatchMojoUK You literally gave my answer
Hi mojo.uk could you too top 10 soap storylines
Haha brilliant!
Captured by Kilgrave, saved by the 10th Doctor
Churchill was not a hero, he was a racist.
Tom Hiddleston!?!?!
He is not there? Then I won't watch... 😑
As soon as I saw the title of this video I knew that there will be David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch on this list.....also great actors on the list
Scary how many of these entries have been in Harry Potter
DanFarrell98 Right?! Like 5???
50%
DanFarrell98 that’s what I thought omd
You forgot TOM HIDDLESTON!!!
Shame...!
Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug and Necromancer in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Also voicing Dormammu in Doctor Strange was amazing.
Oh My god I didn't realise he played Dormammu, so Doctor strange basically covers his versatile for heros and villians. Thanks for pointing it out :)
But his american accent as Doctor Strange wasn't very good, but he did nail the one in August: Osage County
He was the necromancer (sauron) in the hobbit the desolation of smaug, not the lord of the rings trilogy
David and Benedict :) my favourite actors :D and Tom Hiddleston ;) but he's not in the list.... why? :/
RIP Alan Rickman! We miss you!
what no Tom Hiddleston!!!!
when did he play a hero?
the night manager
Totally! Loved him in that role!
MickeyKnox he was also a soldier on War Horse
skull island
As much as I love Ian Mckellan, it was Cumberbatch on the thumbnail and the only reason I am here.
same
Joy Lissette Hawthorne lol tbh
Lol Sameeeeeee
Amen
Of course. Ben is a reason to live this life
I thought Gary Oldman was going to be number 1. He easily blends in with his characters.
I love how many of them were in Harry Potter lol.
I saw an interview with Martin Freeman in which he joked that he was the only British actor who wasn't in the _Harry Potter_ movies. 😄
They should make a new Harry Potter movie and put Cumberbatch in it
retnavybrat but he’s in the hobbit 😂
Yaaaas David Tennant! But missing a James McAvoy!
I'm so happy Robert Carlyle was on this list. The balance of good and evil in his role as Rumpelstiltskin in Once Upon a Time is amazing.
sorry i came for benedict but where is Tom Hiddleston?
Good to see you've included ladies as well as men. And it's good to learn the names of the actors because they're so versatile I haven't recognized them in all their roles. Here I come IMDB.
I knew David , Alan and Ben would be here . They pull both roles off like pH balance
I'm a simple person I saw Benedict I clicked
You missed the all-time best: Anthony Hopkins
Indeed, 70% of Britain's acting talent was in HP
I saw an interview with Martin Freeman in which he joked that he was the only British actor who wasn't in the _Harry Potter_ movies. 😄
Gary Oldman once said that the famous conference table scene from "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" felt like "six degrees of Harry Potter." Himself, John Hurt, Ciaran Hinds, Toby Jones...except for Colin Firth. lol
Sherlock Holmes I noticed
Or they have at one point been in Doctor Who
I think Tom Hiddleston wasn't on it because he hasn't played one iconic hero role. I know he's been in a lot of things, but a lot know him as the villain Loki, and his smaller role in other things or characters that aren't clearly hero or villain. I'm surprisingly so proud of all on this list!
David Tennant
You forgot Benedict’s Dormammu role too... playing hero and villain in one film is quite interesting
Tom hiddleston must be in this list !!!!!!!
I love Imelda Staunton, she was perfect when I saw her in Gypsy and Sweeney Todd , but her Delores Umbridge was vile and was probably even worse than Voldemort.
E Maloney I agree! She made me hate umbridge so much which means she nailed it.
It’s no surprise that Delores Umbridge is the most hated villain in the series. Even Imelda Staunton said that she hates the character
I bloody love british Actors. Plan to move to the UK someday.
Jean Grey I welcome you! Just to give you a tip, don’t limit yourself to London, it’s not the only place we have 😂
TheK9Queen hahahahaha thanks! No I won't limit myself. I want to travel across all of it😜 I want to study film along with equine science
pisswobble hahaha true, and your user name 😂
You are welcome here as long as you do not become Dark Phoenix 😉👍.
Michael Shaughnessy I promise 😂😜
with Gary Oldman, lets not forget his portrayal as the prince of darkness himself, Dracula!
Cumberbatch, Rickman, Oldman and Tennant made me like this video
Count how many of these actors are in Harry Potter. Alan Rickman, Benedict Cumberbatch and David Tennat are my favourite ones but you should have also include Tom Hiddleston.
James McAvoy should be on here. His range of roles is astounding!
Although I can't argue with Ian McKellen, I think David Tennant should still have at least been second
David tennant is overrated, he hasnt had one convincing performance, robert carlyle is a far superior actor to him
I like Tennant, but Gary Oldman and Ian McKellan easily beat him. They disappear into their roles.
Yess especially after des!
Peter Capaldi....no? Okay... Great list anyways
Nice list
Cheers Maria :)
I was gonna kick off about Cumberbatch not being number one till Ian’s name popped up and fair play!
Saaammmee reaction
Can't forget to show Gary Oldman in Leon: the Professional. He's amazing in that film.
Well, that's my Sherly. 💚
Why there is no Tom Hiddleston?
What would they classify David Tennents role as Casanova? That is where I first remember seeing him, and then Dr Who.
First time I saw him was in a commercial for Casanova, but I only got to see 2 seconds of it. I didn't hear his name nor the name of the show, so I just thought "Whoever that man was, he was definitely 1 hot son of a Scotsman".
When half of this list is just Harry Potter
One of the best top 3's there's been on these lists.
I love how 75% of these comments are just people screaming "Wheres Tom Hiddleston?"
erin camp me too, and that's our duty to get him on the list, because he is worth it!!!!!😘
Indeed!! He belongs here!!!
Part 2! And make sure you add Tom Hiddleston!
First he must have a memorable heroic role. Not a little one
At first I saw in the description that David Tennant wasn’t there but then I realized there was a #3,2,1 and I got really happy 😂😱😁
Where is Tom Hiddleston ?????
There's a reason most of my favorite actors/actresses are from UK/Ireland. They are better chameleons than the US crop, in general, exempting people like Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp, who can play pretty much every body.
Boy, Harry Potter had the cream of the Brit/Irish acting elite, what a wonderful education for the young actors and actresses that started in the series.
Christian Bale should have been on that list.
Villain. Harry Potter, Die Hard, Robin Hood.
Vera Drake, Finding Their Feet, Chicken Run. Then Harry Potter. Villain.
Villain - Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland. Kings Speech, Cinderella, Suffragette.
Gary Oldman! 👌
David Tennant! 👌
WHERE . IS . TOM HIDDLESTON?!
Christopher lee?
What hero/villian did he play
Lee is mostly known for his villain portrayals like Dracula and Saruman...
I don’t remember a hero that he’s played
he played sherlock holmes once, so i guess that counts as a hero role
@@Sefiya But it's not as iconic as his Saruman / Count Dracula roles so I guess Christopher Lee doesn't count. Sad though, I liked him as Ansem the Wise in Kingdom Hearts 2..
British actors ftw
*fist bump*
Cool List!
Bravo. Great call for the number 1 spot.
Surprised you never mentioned Ralph Fiennes, who I know has played roles ranging from the evil Voldemort to the "Miracle Maker" Jesus of Nazareth!
Jesus is not a hero but a SHITHEAD
aren't all brits villains per definition? ;)
MickeyKnox Why is that ?.
It was just a joke ... not a good one, I admit, but I thought it would be funny for someone.
But on the other hand, to answer your question: Since very often Hollywood casts brits as villains (best example Alan Rickman: a brit who plays a german ... seems to be double bad)
MickeyKnox We have done good and bad on the world like most countries.
MickeyKnox fuck yourself
Spoken like a typical American...
I came here for my beloved Tom Hardy!!!!! 😭😭😭 Where is he in the list????
Me too dear 😭
robert carlyle was the voice of gabriel belmont aka dracula in castlevania lords of shadow
Timothy Dalton could have been mentioned, he was the villain in "Hot Fuzz" and in the TV show "Chuck" playing Alexi Volkoff
Where is Ewan Mcgregor. He can play anything perfectly
Great list but narrator voice is putting me to sleep 😩 monotone from start to finish
TheJileyProduction he also can't pronounce worth a damn.
Snuggles McSquishbottom You racist swine
Dragon slayer yes that's what all my good friends call me.
Someone has been watching a lot of Harry Potter
How about tom hiddleston and holland??
Tom Hiddleston,
Daniel Day-Lewis,
Liam Neeson,
Ralph Fiennes,
Kate Winslet,
Tilda Swinton and
Jude Law.
I'd make it a three way tie: McKellan, Rickman and Cumberbatch. they are a joy to watch, whether they have a white hat or a black hat on.
not sure that Die Hard started Alan Rickman's career... always thought it was Barchester Chronicles (1982) where he portrayed the very slimy Obadiah Slope... not unlike Snape.
Benedict Cumberbatch ❤❤
But... Where is Tom Hiddleston?
Brian Blessed?
Wait, what?!? No Tom Hiddleston? No Liam Neeson? No John Hurt? Seriously?
Who else came here just because Benedict Cumberbatch was on the thumbnail
Antony Hopkins his role as the kind Doctor in the Elephant Man got him the role of Hanibal Lector they thought what if this guy was evil. He can play good villains and characters that will melt your heart. I dare you to watch Shadowlands without weeping a tear.
for me David Tennant is #1 on this list
Peter Cushing?!? Good : Doctor Who / Sherlock Holmes / Van Helsing - Bad: Baron Frankenstein / / Grand Moff Tarkin / Paul Beresford (The Avengers - Return of the Cybernauts)
James Bond actor plays both heroes & villains
Example: Rassilon from Doctor Who & James Bond
What about hiddleston?
gary oldman also did an excellent job as count dracula in the 1992 movie bram stokers dracula
Alan Rickman existed before Die Hard! I suggest you look for instance at The Barchester Chornicles.
Jude Law should have been here. He plays villains amazingly such as Maguire,King Vortigern,Pitch Black and recently Yon-Rogg. He's also great at playing good guys such as Doctor Watson.
I see benedict. I click.
Freddie Highmore should be on the list..
Yasssss Ben, I see his face, i click.
No Sir Anthony Hopkins? I'm stunned...
you didn't include daniel rad liffe cause he has played the role of a villain in the now you see me -2 movie....
Magneto is no way a villain as such. He is right, only his actions are wrong.
If not someone's actions, what is the thing that makes someone a villain?
Then he’s an anti-villain
Jane Ιωάννα he wants to fight the mutant persecution. That doesn’t sound bad right? In fact even Xavier wants to. It’s just that Magneto wants to wage war to save his people while Xavier wants peace to save his people.
Olufemi Temple He’s more of a complicated character more than an anti-villain. Yes if u see the original trilogy u can say that, but, given the prequels and such, we see his pain. Humans killed his wife and daughter in from of his eyes for crying out loud!

I say, that he's a complicated character that made some controversial decisions.
What about John Hurt? Should be on the list. :-)
And who did he play
ruclips.net/video/YMUqWdQQgbw/видео.html I would pick Adam Sutler from V for Vendetta for a villain and The Doctor / War Doctor from Doctor Who for a hero. ;-)
Half these actors appear in Harry Potter.
You forgot that Gary Oldman played Dracula.
You also forgot the Benedict played Smaug and Sauron in The Hobbit!!!!
Alan Rickman should be way higher in the list.
David Tennant is actually Scottish. :3
MsRoseAfton Scotland is part of Britain so is England and Wales.
Michael Shaughnessy I know. But the title says top 10 brits so I didn’t think David would count. I was thinking just British people. :3
MsRoseAfton He is British Scotland is part of Britain I am also British and I am English although I have an Irish surname 😀😉👍. Scottish, English and Welsh people are all British.
Michael Shaughnessy Learning something everyday! :3 Thank you. ^-^
Anyone notice that Cumberbatch and McKellan both played Richard III?
Well... I only don't know 1 of them :| hehehe but why not Tom Freakin' Hiddleston!!
I love how a good deal of the list are actors from Harry Potter😂😂
Where's Peter Capaldi
I guess Patrick Stewert did not make the list since he is known more for his heroic rolls, but he has played some villains
Part 2 please
And no Anthony Hopkins? Come on!!!
I claim Sir Ian as both my grandfather and my wingman! Eheheh
What happened to Tom Hiddleston he is the best of all.time
Most of these actors were extraordinary as villains, often even outshining the protagonists. However truth be told a lot of their "hero" performances were less than memorable. And that is why Hollywood needs to keep casting the Brits as villains.
Alan 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Helena Bonham Carter can literally play anyone, she is the British goddess of acting
