You were right on with all your comparisons! The Weeknd said that Portishead influenced a lot of Trilogy. It borrows a lot from the trip hop movements in the 90s. I love how The Weeknd was able to borrow so much from movements in the 80s and 90s and still make something that will appeal to a traditional hip hop/R&B crowd. I remember when this record came out back in 2011. I was so tired of how generic R&B had been at that point (Chris Brown, Usher, etc.) But then Frank Ocean and The Weeknd brought something new to the game.

When you listen to the Thursday mixtape I suggest you listen to the remastered version on trilogy, that version's production is just way beyond the original. If I'm not mistake the original mix was admitted to have some production issues. Also your reactions are the best, I love when you go along with the melodies in your own unique way. Never change man!
